TLDR:
- it breaks when importing xml when NO clips from the edit are imported first
- it doesn't break when importing xml when EVEN JUST ONE clip used in the xml has been imported prior
- so import 1 clip of source material, then import xml as timeline (making sure you have the checkbox for import items into media pool checked) and it will work (after a much shorter delay)

Hm.. I have issue importing timeline also, but at the moment i have a tv show which have past 3 seasons hard drives imported already (around 120TB of files in the media pool) so when the episode xml is loaded i get file paths and clip naming at least. Davinci is crashing more and more with every update i will probably switch to another software soon, as i'm literally spending my days fixing errors and trying get resolve to work instead of color grading.
That is unfortunate. I haven't worked on anything as big as 120TB tbh.... The reality is this video was just one example of a project I had to do in FCPX, but even in PP I get errors when relinking XML. My solution? I stopped using PP and FCPX for editing and moved everything to DR. Now I edit and color all in the same software. Goodbye XML problems!
@@MaurideHaro I hear you bro... but i can't force editors to switch (unfortunately). Anyways we found the solution, the issue was a PNG file they left on the timeline. That was crashing resolve when importing XML. Maybe someone find this helpful.

Was busy all day trying to fix this problem. What worked for me was to import all footage and audio into DR before importing the XML, then I cut up my Premiere Pro timeline into smaller pieces. I exported them all these timelines as XMLs, imported them into DR and stitched them back together. Hope this helps somebody

I don't think I had any repeated names to be honest... Im not sure why happens but importing only one clip seems to do it!
