Transcription of Kenny Burrell's guitar solo on "Satin Doll" (Ellington)
Recorded on Jimmy Smith's "Organ Grinder Swing," June 1965
Jimmy Smith (B3 Organ), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Grady Tate (drums)
Thank you very much for this and for that more in depth analysis! In that 4th full measure (a tough thing to suss out) it sounds like it's the C with an upstroke rake just sliding from Eb > C and then Bb-A distinct notes, G-F slide then that Dmin7 arpeggio (A-C-E). The takeaway for me is the emphasis on melody that works over the changes vs "playing the changes" and learning solos gives that (vs working on change arpeggios). Again thanks!
awesome
tasty solo..great transcription, thanks !
Thank you, Billy.
Need tabs😢
Hi Gladhand, sorry I don't do TABS, I know they are very helpful in learning, but as an educator and professional, I have to stress how important it is for guitarists to learn to read standard notation. I get paid $$$$ because I can read music. If you are interested in resources or help, let me know. I teach a beginner guitar class, with a text book I created that might help.

This sounded extremely good until I tried to play it. It was just a good solo, now is my nightmare hahahaha
