I have tested and listened to hundreds of pairs of speakers but which do I think you can use for mastering.
Streaky you are on a roll with these videos! Love it
Good stuff, Streaky!
Great results here with ns10’s and two subwoofers (yst sw-100 wired) in series. Ive used the expensive stuff, and this combo works great for me. For some reason people dont associate ns10s with a sub... go figure. You get the unbeatable mids, highs and stereo image and with a sub they turn into full-range monsters.
I've heard soffit mounted Quested in an acoustic-architect designed room with suspended floors and all the treatments and was unimpressed..
The PMC MB-01 .. amazing - but the engineer I was with said he takes regular breaks...
You need them at volume to perform right it can knock the wind out of you, exhausting in long sessions
I love your videos Streaky. Wow can't wait to buy my next set of monitors for mixing. Those you have are amazing: 4 bass cones?😃
steelwiz 6 bass cones !!! Epic...
Yea The Kii Audio most be great! I had other investments to make also so they are out of reach for me. However my genelec system in my room goes down to 25hz and sounds close to my Sennheiser HD800S with The HDV820, so as an amateur i am not complaining, however the feel of the room is awesome! Especially the subs as can’t get that with my headphones even they are a bit flatter and more precise. If i ever make money with music i will get the Kii’s,...... Cheers.
Which Genelecs?
question Streaky, what are your thoughts on the Neumann KH310 for mastering - in a treated and optimized room ??
Sonnox Oxford also use Kii 3... that says a lot
I use a sub and it is -3 db at 14 hz in my room. Although I will be building a new pair of speakers with four 8 " drivers for the lows tuned to 27 hz. In room I would suspect them to be good to at least 20 hz. It will be a three way with a 4 " midrange from SB acoustics and a dome tweeter. The woofers will have a total XMAX of 44 mm and the cone area of a 15" speaker. I am using a 12" sub right now.The new system will be tri-amped as my current system is.Parasound John Curl amps.
my speakers can do 1Hz if you want them to.
:
but my amplifier is limited to 10Hz, my mixer to 12 Hz, and my ears to 17Hz. (at the theoretical 130 db max these speakers do.)
:
so i have programmed my custom DC filter likewise. what i dont hear doesnt belong on tape! :)

Hi Streaky, it seems that you chose KII over ATC scm 150 asl. KII here too, since March 2018, without BXT. I have no experience with 150.
Hey Streaky . Question ? With the Kii audio speakers will they work okay in a small room . I'm learning and just wanna future proof myself monitor wise so when I get a bigger better trapped space I haven't wasted money on several purchases . Like buy once buy right .
Nice! Thank you for your informative tips. What software is the best for mastering?
Home studio : wavelab
Hi streaky I've a pair of PMC Result 6 but , they don't have low end so I want change for a pair of Neumann KH310 because I've a small room 4,5 x 2,7 x2,5m . Do you think it's a good choice for mastering ? Or I'ts better to add a subwoofer (Eve TS108 or Dynaudio 9S) to the pmc please?
Hi streaky do you think that neumann kh 310 is suitable for mastering , I have small room 3m x4m 2.7 m high or is better to buy some b &w like 704 s2 with amp or something in this price range.
Thank you for advice Luko
Hey Streaky, where do i get such absorber walls like you behind?! thanks a lot!
best mastering monitor for bad rooms, small rooms or poor people, in my opnion, is high quality headphones... all the sub you need and no impact from acoustics; even tho you can't feel the bass enerygy, you can hear it.
Cool videos and reviews. Id like to ask you: If you have between 6 to 8,000$, what pair of speakers would you pick? (active or with amps as needed) Thank you
The Focal Trio11 Be
Or HEDD. Or Neumann KH310
Hi Streaky. I'm looking at purchasing the Kii Three's or Dutch & Dutch 8C's. Do you think buying HEDD Type 30's or a speaker in this price range paired with a Trinnov ST2 Pro system is comparable? Thanks for your service to the audio community!
Type 20 from HEDD. Everything that Type 30 gives you in a smaller size, the bass boost is not that vital. Fraction of Kii 3 or D&D 8C.
@@morespinach9832 I ended up buying Focal Trio11’s. Now I’m thinking about upgrading to Barefoot Minimain12’s. I think I’ll buy the Trinnov ST2 Pro system next and see how that goes first though.
Would you consider D&D 8c good as well for Mastering? Usually they compare this 2 a lot.
NostreDamnz yes they are great too, but not as much control as the kii’s
Waiting on your Chord TT2 review being used for mastering…
what about barefoot footprints? Have you had a chance to test them out?
Kii re-review or updated review, please!
Mark Donen incoming 👍
I am wondering if streaky agree with the so so review of What Hi-Fi? about them.
HI Streaky….what is the model number of your KII audio Speakers and what is the price range
Thanks
Kii 3, about 12.000$
Thank you @@lrrrruleroftheplanetomicro6881
Hi Streaky what connection are you using between your Prism and the Kii's? Thanks
Three Pedals and a Stick I’m using a Hilo and I’m spdif or usb depends what I’m doing
@@Streaky_com Thanks Streaky.
bro did you "gleek" at 1:32 ?? lol!
Hi, is there a link to the site of those speakers?

What's your opinion on Sonarworks? Have you tried it? Thanks!
Martin Tomášik yes it’s good I did a vid on it somewhere
@@Streaky_com gonna check, thanks!
@@Streaky_com Focal? I have a pair of consumer-orientated JM Lab Electra from the early 00s,
The inverted tweeters are exceptional IMO and patented so only brand offering these
Time aligned, phase aligned, matched pair, superb off axis response... there's no sweet spot per se
Reverb tails are completely linear as they fade to silence.. that world class damping with the glass/foam composite drivers!
I will honestly cry the day they die. But what about modern day Focal ??
Why did you go for the Kii3 instead of the D&D 8C?
Torolla & Co D&D have considerably more/ overwhelming bass compared to the Kii3
The bass, the different tweaks and I can add the bass bottoms (bxt) if I need more volume which I don’t currently as they go mega loud...
Best 3 way speakers for mixing?
Genelec The Ones: 8351, 8341, 8331.
@@adrianmilea I am dreaming about the 8351 + 7360a
@@migibeats104 I have the 8341 and I believe you have a really good dream and hope you'll make it into a reality as soon as possible!
"i have been mastering on NS-10 before" ... do you just like the extremes or dont you know that there are quite a few solutions between 300 euro and 13000 euro?
most people i know would call the yamaha "crap" - and everything over 8000 euro "luxury."
Streaky - Kii makes white versions of these speakers... just saying... ;)
Low distortion, short internal decay and good time alignment is what you should look for in speakers imo
For example, if you compare NS10 (figure 36) against any other speaker in this photo, you will see one of the reasons why NS10 is so good to many people. The internal decay time is extremely short and even across whole frequency response.
i.gyazo.com/53ff2f4247a55559d89b06f0bcfee977.png
Thats another reason why people describe them as "fast", because there is no ringing so transient can translate properly.
@@RecluseRR Only part of the story, but yeah good bracing, heavy, actual hardwood cabinets do the trick..
See my comment on Focal (JM Lab) elsewhere - the composite drivers are fast (glass sandwich) but with exceptional damping (foam filling layer) so they don't ring or smear in time based plots
They also have a flat response, and absurdly low distortion for a speaker, so they don't sound like a bag o' shite like the NS10s ;D
NS10s are pretty nasty, but they translate well.
If you ever have speakers too much feel free to send them xd
I love that these speakers come with rave reviews and I would love to own a pair but at $13,000 plus a pair it's just completely out of the question...
Odin OfficialEmcee non sense. Nobody should ever pay so much.
Speakers are speakers. And the speakers should just sound good to your ears.
I mean you need for sure full range speakers because of mastering jobs but then you must know exactly your gear so you know how to solve some situations and correct them with your own tools !
@@Carlos-Rodrigues I largely agree with you. I get that full range will always be more and tech costs to produce but I believe they are likely overpriced. I agree that as long as your speakers sound good and get you a finished product that you and clients are happy with then those are fine to work with. I still would love a pair of full ranges but I think there are better (or as good) options for 1/4 of the price
I bet you can master without full range speakers. Bassroom pretty much gets you there to a large degree. I wouldn’t say you “can’t” master. You can get really close
Austin yeah I would be able to master to about 70% in any room on any speakers mainly from my experience and listening to my reference tracks...but it’s a hell of a lot easier, quicker and better sounding when I can actually hear what I’m doing.
