Evaluating the Radian Ramjet Compensator

- With Glocks being some of the most popular pistols on the market, naturally, there are a lot of upgrades available for them, including compensators. In this video, Brandon talks about his findings after shooting with the Radian Ramjet for about 3,500 rounds.

It's main selling point is being all 50 states legal, since certain states, mine included, bans threaded barrels on handguns, which would prevent me from threading a comp onto a barrel, in order to make something close to a Roland Special. If I ever moved out of my state, then I would go the common threaded route, but that being said, my Radian combo has been phenomenal on my Glock 19!
Of all the things to ban…. Smh. Can’t wait until the NFA and all other dumb gun laws are gone
Let me guess... you live in Newsomville.
@GTFBITK Yup, lol, but having Judge Benitez and my neighbors getting fed up with Newsom's bullshit, especially after the Chinese president red carpet treatment, has made living here somewhat bearable, not financially of course, lol!
Move.
No, it’s not hard. I’ve moved states 4 times now when laws got shitty in a state.
Yes you can move, it’s if you have the balls to move. I understand some people are poor and prefer to live in states that violate your constitutional rights.
Don’t complain about not having threaded barrels if you’re going to keep letting the commies stick it up your tail pipe.
@@GTFBITKI understood that reference.
Appreciate the honesty and effort put into the evaluation of this product. Well done.
Most comprehensive and honest review I have seen so far on the Ramjet. Much appreciated.
Very solid comprehensive review. You covered the primary questions and concerns that I had on this. Particularly the g17 comparison and the concussion. Much appreciated!
Been waiting for a real review on this one! Thanks!
I have had one on my Shadow Systems MR920 since they first came out and it is amazing. Definitely one of the best out there.
Same here. I have it on my mr920 with a holosun HE508T and a Streamlight TLR-8 as my edc. Couldn’t be happier with how it feels and shoots.
The transparency and honesty got you a sub and future customer from me!
Good to hear from y’all what you thought about the Radian comp 👍🏻 I personally love mine and have not experienced any sort of malfunctions and am surely over 1k rounds.
The honesty. I love it. I am now gonna start supporting this channel and your website. =) I almost went to buy it. lol
Thanks for the honest review most dont do that
The honesty is very refreshing
Appreciate the honesty and respect for the company Radiant.
It’s videos like this, which is why I keep coming back to this company.
3:56 nice, succinct answer we all wanted to know. Loved to hear all the other pros/cons. As usual, thanks for the HONEST review. 👍
Thank you for an honest presentation.
Gas direction is directly related to gas production.
The hotter the load the better the comp will work.
Its pretty easy to understand.
Outstanding Review... what we have come to expect from TRex!!!!
You boys ROCK!!!
Ive been liking mine. I never noticed the extra concussion personally. Ill have to pay attention next time. I notice the reduction in recoil. The price is the worst part about it. But after owning multiple handguns and having been shooting for years i don’t mind dropping the money on it. But if you’re starting out oem and case of ammo is good advice
I’ve been curious about these. Glad to see y’all doing an evaluation on them.
Thanks for the honesty.
Thanks for making this video. Helps me make some decisions.
Very honest review and recommendation.
Demand for these things is off the chart and they could easily make money selling them. It says a lot for the integrity of the reviewer that he would honestly advise against a product on the basis of value to the customer. I have noticed the same cost vs value issue related to P365 and P320 accessories; you could buy a whole pistol for the cost of a slide and barrel combo in many cases.
I like the casual "all the states that infringe on your rights lol. The deadpan delivery of that line is what got me
Great review, thank you.
Wow, you’re really good at putting the gun in the holster fast! Is that so you can put handcuffs on patriot?
Love the honesty 👍, good product but company differences
For the record, I think the OEM recoil assembly on G45/G19/G17 is 17#...not 15#.
Lol I thought it was 16.
@@dylanholbrook6239 Yeah, I tend to run a #15 RSA and a #5 striker spring along with the reduced power safety plunger spring, but I do replace my RSAs more than most (ever 1.5-2K rounds). I think a lot of guns are oversprung and prefer shooting with weaker recoil springs (43X felt this way as did the Echelon).
@@joeflowers9084 most guns are sprung for a wide range of ammo. There's a pretty bigg difference between 124gr@1200 and 115@1150. Manufacturers definitely error on the side of extra spring tension for that reason. I literally keep it stock tho.
Yeah, I misspoke. 17lb is OEM.
Thanks for honest assessment
you in fact do need the guide rod set... at least i did. my glock 19 wouldnt get through a single mag with the stock spring. radian said it was probably my optic slowing the slide down (509T x2) yet others ive seen with the same optic were just fine with the stock spring. radian said i should use the 15lb spring. so, some people dont need it and some do.
Great video… I’ve been tossing this around for a while if I wanted to purchase it.
I think comps that don’t require a threaded barrel like this one, are the future. The simpler the comp is the less likely it is to fail so that’s cool. BUT I think the compensator craze is dying out bc ppl are realizing there’s no shortcut to getting good at shooting
In the case of just getting a Glock 17 rather than a radian comp I think is actually kinda valid generally I think retail is now 549 599 around that and there’s always that used option from the local pawn shop think it would be really cool to see a comparison between the radian comp and say a PMM comp on a 17
I picked one up and put it on my G45. It really shines when firing heaver gr ammo and anything +p. Having both a g17 and this I feel the recoil impulse with the radian is less. My times also show an improvement with the radian. Im a full 3 tenths faster on average shooting a bill drill since running the radian. I had hit a plateau previously. Expensive? Yes. Worth it if you are looking to shave off tenths of seconds, also yes.
this is great info to know as I am considering getting one. Thanks
great review
Awsome review.
Just found a g45 with a sro , x300, magwell, +5 base pad , this radian ramjet and after burner , stock barrel and 2 mags for 1400$ 🙌🏻
I just purchased one of these but I was able to get it for $289 shipped direct from Radian.
Radian does sell Blems for $329.99. I had a 15% off discount code which is why I got it for less.
How do you like it? Which model do you have it on?
@@09civsi I got the gen 3 model. I haven’t shot it yet as it’s part of a build. I just haven’t had the time to finish.
Thanks for the tip.
@@09civsiI love mine, I have a Glock 17 with thousands of rounds through it. Like one of those glocks with a stock trigger that’s actually nice because it’s so broken in. I’ll take my Glock 45 with the ramjet and afterburner 10/10
Although it’s expensive I still purchased it. I’ve seen some non-sponsored reviews, where it had absolutely 0 malfunctions. While shooting it I didn’t feel a MASSIVE difference, but after I watch a video of me shooting it definitely looked flatter. I shot mainly 124 grain through it.
Get those 147 those are amazing through a comp
Respect the honest opinion.
For future testing, it may be worth it to you guys to measure the length of the spring before during and after testing. Especially once it begins malfunctioning. AR15 carbine action springs have a TDP spec length of no less than 10-1/8". When new they should be closer to 11-1/4", thats what my colt ones are. The most recent PSA one I got was about an inch shorter at 10-5/8", so not yet out of spec, but it won't be long before it is. That spec is for round wire only, tubbs flatwire are longer so the spec isn't linear. I say this because I imagine that the "compressor" spring lost some decompressed length during those cycles which makes it weaker. While Radian does say that the compressor is using a flatwire spring, it does not specify the material. They could probably improve the design by upgrading to chrome silicon like sprinco or a different form of stainless like tubbs.
@@ReCyclops1232 this video is about the radian ramjet compensator for a glock my friend. I was talking about buffer springs as an example of spring decompression as cycle count increases. This happens to all springs, some worse than others depending on construction. Some of the malfunctions they were encountering at higher round counts could be due to the spring weakening.
@@musician445 you are correct haha multiple UA-cam tabs open I guess ahah
@@ReCyclops1232 No problamo, i'm right there with ya lol.
God damn I love this channel
I am seeing them go for $299 a few places, so the cost is barely more than a case of ammo. However, for what many did pay ($379), you could even chunk port and back-bore a G19, and that would mean you didn't have the extra length and weight, and it would be as effective.
I like comps, especially the CR920P, which turns the Micro 9 into a soft shooter (soft as a G17 or less to me).
Where they going for 299 at
@October.409 ABCSportZ had them for $299...snatched one up but they are out of stock now. Keep an eye on their site
The port and reem will not work as well as the added comp.
Look at it from a physics stand point.
Gas direction can only be to certain level ( only so much gas can be directed with equal rounds). The added weight will also help in reduction.
So, physically speaking, a G19 with a light and RamJet will perform better than a G19 with ports and the same light.
You know this to be true, you can't cheat physics.
Its not space magic or a revilation.
Look at the set ups used by master class shooters, there's a reason they all add weight and a comp.
Does the "cover threaded barrel" option on a G19 sidecar fit a G19 with ramjet? or should one order a G17 sidecar. Thanks!
Been seeing these all over so I had to take a look. Will definitely buy ammo instead. thanks for the honest review.
What’s T-Rex arms thoughts on Parker mountain machine ??? Would love to see a video on that or a head to head comparison of the “two top comps” also is radian>pmm or vice versa the ppl wanna know
Nice video thanks ! One thing bugged me : Brandon says that trex's glocks have a failure every ~400 rounds.
Is it supposed to be a "normal" failure rate ? I have two gen5 9mm, 5k rounds through them and litteraly zero failure.
Maybe are you issues ammo related instead of guns related ?
Yeah I thought that was crazy too. I probably haven't had a malfunction with glocks in several thousand rounds and even that was a bad primer.
What ammo did you run? I have found I have to run 124’s to get it to feed on a stock Glock spring.
I was just made aware that Radian has changed the design of the ramjet/afternurner. So which version did you get?
Thanks, this is helpful.
Besides competition & fun at the range. Wouldn't a comp on a pistol be pretty blinding in a low light to night situation. Which is where you most likely would need it in a self or home defense situation? I'm curious to see what the pistols look like shooting at night with & without the comps? Maybe I'm wrong & it's gonna be a big flash anyways? I would think the comp would make it worse pushing all gasses upwards
Damn. Didn’t expect that. “Great product. Too expensive. Not selling.” Lol
Are you evaluating the Gen 1 or Gen 2 version? The teardrop barrel or the round barrel? They recently changed their design.
Got one on my G45. Shooting next to my 17, I can definitely tell the difference. My dot stays in the glass. I don't notice any more concussion; maybe because I'm shooting outdoors. Shot it next to my PDP Pro full size and can really tell a difference.
Compensate that pdp pro, it’s soooo good when you do, zero malfunctions on mine
Machine shop I work at is making some pretty cool stuff for radian right now. The parts aren’t out yet so I can’t say what they are but I will say I’ll be buying a new pistol just to add these parts 🤫
Wish I was able to find it in stock somewhere. G19 Gen5 version
I've had no malfunctions with mine, love it. It's also the only one I can get in ny.
For someone looking to get one of these comps on a 19, would you recommend your 19 holster or your 17 holster?
Shouldn't switching down to the 13lb spring resolve the slidelock issue?
I'd rather buy ammo. Thank you for being thorough in your opinions!
Do people normally have a lot of malfunctions on regular comps? I’ve never had one.
Good advice.
The price point for these are high. I do really enjoy mine and i just picked a second one up ONLY because it's a blem directly from Radian with a 15% discount code. So shipped was like $288 I think. At that price point it's worth it, but at the $400 price point, not so sure.
Oem is 17-18 if I remember correctly so that would be the black spring.
Amazing video
They are little pricey but what a night and day difference on my G45
Where did you get that shirt? The one where you are in your studio
Would it fit on one of your Raptor Holsters? Glock 45 + Ramjet?
It looks cool, and half of the being a good shooter is looking cool.
I got rid of mine. My G45 MOS and my G19 MOS neither liked the Radian setup. It fed so much grime and what appeared to be brass shavings into the frame. Gun got so dirty so fast.
Comp’s catch lead also which can be a pain in the azz to clean out.
It needs a softer recoil spring. It helps with not only rise but also cyclic rate and return/dipping.
Single port will never stack up against something like the Herrington multi port..
I don’t experience any extra clean out issues with mine.
Good PSA 👍
Thanks for being honest
I just got mine the weekend of Black Friday, I got the ramjet + afterburner for $330 with shipping, you said $480? That’s a pretty penny
Hopefully you guys start carrying the agency arms comp
Nice work playa! E8K out!
So ported 17 or 45 ramjet?
Put thousands of rounds through mine on a 19, no issues and love it. Shoots very flat and never had slide lock issues even with a holosun on it. One of the main selling points of this comp is that it does not require a threaded barrel, which is not legal where I live. It uses a pinlock screw system. Also you're paying for the barrel which is a match barrel.
Do you have a Gen 3 or Gen 5? Eveyone with a Gen 5 has zero issues but my buddy and I both have Gen 3s and had to buy the 13lbs recoil spring because we were getting stovepipes with our OEM 15lbs recoil springs
@@jerdog333 I have a Gen 3. And how odd, I have the oem spring in there. Only mods are a factory slide milled by LWS, a Holosun 408t, and a Surefire XC1. Make sure you’re not holding the grip too light in attempts to feel the recoil mitigation. Limp wristing is the primary cause of stovepipes.
@@InvalidUsername725 Thanks for the info. I just spoke with my buddy and we are both selling ours. I took a class last week and the instructor was having the same problems as me with is Gen 3 so I'm uncomfortable carrying this as my CCW.
Thanks again! And let me know if you want to buy 2. I bought one for me and my wife and I'm selling them both and buying ammo! Haha. Be well.
Bought two and had ftf for both on my Glock 45. Even tried the spring kit :(
@@enrico8730 Just realized I also have a Johnny Glocks Combat trigger kit with the 5lb striker. In the comments below I saw some people had issues if they changed their striker springs. Just a thought
Well done and 100% agreed. WAY too much $ for what it does. If someone really wants their face blackened with burnt powder, they can do a $60 comp on a threaded barrel for a fraction of the price with likely the same or close to the same results. Does look really good though.
No one is gonna ask what happened at 4:12 ?
Please balance the audio so the gunshots are not louder than the talking.
I hope to see more similar stuff where Brandon breaks down his thoughts, he conveys the information and his experience well.
Glock OEM is 17lns for 17 length slide & 18 for.a.19 length slide.
Sealed the deal im going to buy more ammo. I am keeping my G45 stock other than the sro. Wanted to get a comp but mags and ammo plus more time on the range is more important to me. If i want no recoil i can always shoot my 34.
Ok so after you shoot the 1000 rounds then what??
That’s like a few range sessions and afterwards your gun will still have more recoil than if you had a comp on it. That’s like saying I’m gonna put more gas in my car instead of getting a performance suspension
I’ve shot thousands of rounds out of my gen3 19 and never had a malfunction. How are you having malfunctions every few hundred rounds?
For that price point, you can definitely buy a CZ P-09/P-10C. Interesting compensator though!
Yes but do you need another handgun or is it better to upgrade the one you have. No wrong answers.
@@islas357I'd say another handgun would be a better choice tbh. Two solid and shootable handguns are better than a single soft shooting handgun.
That said I'm still interested in these.
@@robertparis5680if you have several guns already there is no point to buy more guns just because it cost the same as a gun. You could buy 4 hi points 😂
Try the agency arms 417
I think the performance was excellent when I had mine. However, there is far too much impact shift between different ammo types. With most oem barrels my carry ammo and range ammo are within 1-2” at 25 yards. With the ramjet it was 5-6” off. Huge pain for training.
I've had zero shift.
Idk how, several tests with different grain bullets have shown to have zero shift in comparison to stock barrels.
You’re cappin, check your skills
@@BananarchOfTedKacistan I’m not the best shooter, but I regularly score mid 90s with my g45 on a b8 at 25 yards. The ramjet was throwing other rounds even of the same grain weight 3-6 inches off depending on the load. A shooter more experienced than myself that regularly scores in the high 90’s with his G45 also had the exact same issue.
@@jonah8133 me or Bananarch?
any eta When multicam pouches be back in stock
Honestly, I picked one up the other day and about 60 ish rounds in it had failure to feed. ( G19 gen 5 )
Yeah if they ever come back in stock. Been waiting for months
"Sir Brandon"good morning...💙🇵🇭💙 sending love
Have one on my mr920. Shifted the POI 6 inches up and 3 inches right at 25 yards. This was bagged and benched. Now can’t use my irons
I appreciate the honest review as well I love radian products but there price is for the Gucci shooters not the average joe
I got this for my G19.3 when I lived in California. I agree completely with everything he said. Negligible reliability issues. Looks really good. Not worth $400. Just hold the gun better more better and save $400. But if you can afford it then its pretty neat, fun to have, and will be an interesting piece of firearms history in 20 years.
It looks cool. That's half the fun.
Rule #1 - Look cool. LOL I do like mine on my MR920 @@GTFBITK
Vantage Point Compensator!!! It's effective, durable, reliable and $150 MSRP.
Radian punching the air right now.
What is the solution when your slide stops locking back? Just change out the recoil spring for a new one?
Personally my compressor rsa was out of spec. It was too short . Had all kinds of troubles with it. Like it just didn't provide enough spring tension and would actually work itself out of position. I only bought it because the configuration of my 45 wouldn't run properly with the comp. I went back to the stock rsa and tweaked some of the other parts closer towards stock and got mine running perfectly.
The price seems quite excessive compared to the cost required to produce something like that. If they have to charge that much to cover employee compensation, then I need to go work for them.
You guys get malfunctions from stock glocks every 200-400rds??
Right? There's no way they're getting so many failures running OEM.
I find it interesting that you mention it being not significantly better than a 17. I run a 17 currently and was wondering if I should buy a 45 + ramjet. Where I live it would be 1500$ plus. So yeah I stick with my 17
I own a DR920 and an MR920. I have a Shadow Systems comp for my DR920 and I bought the Ramjet for my MR920.
I've fired all of them with and without the comps and ramjet back to back with 124 grain NATO spec ammo (typically a +P spec).
Regardless of what the guy in this video claims, the Ramjet in the 19 shoots better than a non comped 17 with hot ammo.
This guy is wrong.
Physics prove him wrong.
A 19 will expel more gas than a 17 because of barrel length (you know this is true).
All comps work with available gas (you know this also).
So physically speaking the more gas you can redirect tbe more effective Reduction will be.
NATO spec ammo through a 19 with a light has less felt recoil and muzzle rise than a 17 with light and no comp.
Adding a comp to the 17 makes it "better" than the 19.
I hope this makes sense.
I'm an IPSC master class shooter. (Its not as important as some think)
Everyone who race use comps on open pistols, for a reason.
Its basic physics.
great points there! I shoot IPSC production so a comp doesn't really make sense for me anyways tho @@thefrogking481
