Quick & Easy Watercolur Sky Tutorial With Pen & Wash Demonstration of Eilean Donan Castle Watercolor

Here's another very quick and easy wet in wet watercolour sky tutorial, complete with a time lapse video showing you what I decided to do with the sky wash: a pen and wash watercolour painting of the beautiful Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland.
Here I hope to demonstrate the versatility of a basic, clean and transparent wash, and how easy it is to transform it into an effective painting with a bit of thought and practice, and no fiddling about with the sky wash!
Materials
Saunders Waterford 90lb cold press cotton paper, 15" x 11"/38 cm x 28 cm
Medium and large hake brushes
3/4" synthetic flat brush
Black waterproof fine liner pen
Black waterproof brush pen
Cotman tube paints: raw & burnt sienna, prussian blue and lamp black

I'm a bit shy about it at the moment and feeling rather vulnerable, but Jon gave me some encouragement today, so I thought I would be brave :-)

Don’t be shy, faint heart never sone fair lady, remember what jon said........... but if you say you can do it and believe it, you will see big changes, honestly you will” I know the truth of that in my graphite if nothing else lol

You are absolutely amazing. I’ve tried this one five times now. Tonight I finally took my largest flat brush and had a bit of success. The hake I have is a bamboo one I’ve taken apart. But I cannot master the control you display with it yet. Your videos motivate me to continue trying though. Thank you very much for sharing your time and skill for free like this on UA-cam.

My first watercolor on castles #16 Scottish Castillo, and I did the same by John Gifford consecutively. Two Eilean Donan paintings in a row.
I prefer more light on the castle though. Thanks for introducing me to such landscape, with your tutorial.

Thanks very much Lois - so much can be done in a simple manner - loved the reflections, though I would have liked to see you doing these at a slower pace. This was a lovely painting throughout - especially interesting when they include historic buildings. I like the way you are not a slave to reality and you generate a lot of feeling and atmosphere in your work in an uncomplicated way.
