Good morning John, thank you for your videos... I'm Helmut, I'm writing you from Bolivia south America... I just bought a second hand jd 3950.. It Looks like yours.. Just it has only 6 long knifes, and I have problems with, I can't find new ones here.. Do you think I can get them in the US? Or maybe is and old model... The other problem I have with the machine is that it blows the cut grass to weak into the wagon... Sorry for asking this.. Can you maybe give some ideas? Thank you for your help.. And for your videos.. Have a good day!
The old John Deere 3800 had a 6 Knife Head I wonder if somebody didn't retrofit one of them in there By the right wheel the belt drive for the blower you can reverse them to pulleys and make the fan spin faster. Make sure blower paddles are in good shape and close to the band. In some conditions it don't blow good.
What does the ticking signal to us? When you're referring to sharpening until you hear a tick and then setting the cutter bar? Are we setting the cutter bar while running the knives/pto? Thanks for the video. Just bought a 3950, and needed to learn how to set the chopper up properly.
when setting the cutting bar the tick says the bar is touching the knives. then we back it away. but there is the slack in the adjuster so you count the turns. only do 4-5 turns on a each side at a time. you back off 9 turns to stop the tick, then turn them back in 8 turns, if don't turn the screws back in then the bar will push away from the cutter head and take a lot of power and have a hard time doing a good cut. ask away I will do my best! if I have to make a video I will.
Thank you for the help

Thanks again Jon
How do we remove the knives? We broke a blade
Each knife is held in place with 3 bolts that use a 3/4 socket.
That’s a pretty neat way of doin that
thanks for the video
