How Moving To Ecuador CHANGED My Life

  • How much can you really learn about a "Culture" from traveling and visiting for just a few days? A LOT actually. But, there's only so much you can digest and so much learning you can force in a short time span. That's why I chose to move out of NYC and LIVE in Cumbaya Ecuador. And, after just a few weeks so far, the experience has been more insightful and instructive than I could have ever imagined. My biggest takeaway so far is that there is no one way of life that is universally better or worse for everyone. Rather, there is a specific way of life that may be the best for each individual person. Learning about culture is not about finding the best way of life but about finding parts and differences that are best for YOUR way of life and learning to understand and empathize with everyone's way of life better in the process. Tune in to see which parts of Ecuadorian culture I've chosen to incorporate into my way of life and how it has IMPROVED my day to day.

    One reason people don't eat breakfast in the usa or Canada is to save time and money so you can pay the taxes in Canada in the year

    We've been in Ecuador for the last 6 weeks and we're loving it here. The weather has varied depending on where we are (Andes vs. beach) but it's always been pleasantly cool to quite hot. And yes, being able to speak even a bit of Spanish is super useful!

    It’s a nice video, and it’s clear you are enjoying your time in Ecuador. But you are not at all living a normal life in Ecuador. Aside from the slower pace and the eating, you’re living the lifestyle of the way upper class. This isn’t a snapshot of normal living in Ecuador. When you step down to a lower economic level, like middle class, you’ll see that it is far more simulator to the USA than you realize. Enjoy your stay, but don’t think what you’re experiencing is “normal”.

    • @Eddie_He
      @Eddie_He  Рік тому

      Thanks Andrew, I agree - should caveat I live in the upper class around here. Would be curious to see the differences in lifestyle between socio-economic classes and how it differs with the US too.

    • @andrewsmith9174
      @andrewsmith9174 Рік тому +1

      @@Eddie_He, the differences would terrify you. I do not recommend it. You have no experience with this. Enjoy your stay, but perhaps make an edit in your video description. You would not well handle someone putting a gun or knife in your face for your cell phone or camera. I’m not trying to sound sarcastic, I know it may read this way, but I’m a direct speaker. You are in a fairly well protected bubble, and probably have been for some time. It’s good, we all would like that. I get dirty for my work. I’ve had guns pointed at me. I’ve had people rob me. I’ve gotten into fights. I’ve played soccer with people that threatened me with machetes. You’re fine where you are. To be honest, it would not be right for you to go searching elsewhere.
      Just as a clarification , I make a comfortable six figure income. I work in a technical area, outside in the New England elements in every shitty neighborhood in my state. I have a university degree in anthropology. I learned Spanish to a comfortable degree on my own without classes. Even in retirement, I will live quite comfortably in Ecuador when the time comes, still no where close to the privilege you are enjoying. I’ve spent most of my time in Guayaquil. I’ve also been to Cali, Colombia and the DF of Mexico.
