We have taken our chunnel design to the next level by incorporating supporting triangles. This innovative feature allows the chunnel to be easily moved around, ensuring that our chickens always have access to fresh grass. By using chicken wire formed into a tunnel shape and adding these supporting triangles, we have created a versatile and mobile outdoor space for our feathered friends. Stay tuned as we demonstrate how to construct and utilize this movable chunnel, providing your chickens with a continuous supply of lush, green grass!
In this informative video, we'll show you how to create this chunnel (chicken tunnel) for your feathered friends! This chunnel is a clever way to provide chickens with a safe and enriching outdoor space while protecting them from potential predators. Join us as we walk you through the materials needed, the construction process, and tips to ensure your chunnel is secure and comfortable for your chickens. This is great, looks easy for me and will keep the girls out of my garden and out of trouble but able to have that free-range feeling with less risk of predator attacks!

Good ideas. I didn't care for the words blocking the video, though. I was hoping to see the accordion thing in use close up. I had thought about using some type of extension like that for my hens, but wondered how I could move it in different directions. Yours was a good idea. Thanks.

Great feedback! Being a newer channel, we love hearing ways we can improve. We’ll put the accordion we used on the chunnel on the docket for a video in the near future. It’s worked great for us. Thanks!

I agree wholeheartedly with you. More time could be spent on the (?) Concertina wire construction and its application. Looking forward to updates.

This is the best design I’ve seen so far. Making one today!

Making the short length of the tunnel turn sideways providing the chicks with fresh ground from time to time,is a superb idea! (I was concerned to start with, that all of your tunnel is wrapped around with the mesh wire on all three sides, as the birds do need to scratch the soil.)

Thanks! It’s worked out great so far. And moving the chunnel daily gives them fresh grass and doesn’t kill the grass. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! It has worked great for our backyard flock. They come running when we open the chunnel door.

Nice! I like the accordion attachment. I thought about using a dog or cat tunnel with nylon, but I bet this one you made with wire is more practical, and the hens will like entering it better.

I had a lot of thoughts for the accordion too but the hens do go through no problem. I had to put wood pieces on the bottom to keep their feet safe and make it easier to walk on.

@@stavenessstudioshomestead They look amazing and the chickens are in them more than their actual run! I am creating a compound with the chunnels between them. I wish I could free range but we have to many predators here in TX. Thanks again for your design ideas!

That’s fantastic! We have the same problem here, a ton of predators, and we haven’t lost one chicken in over two years to a predator. There would be a lot of tears from our little girls if we did.

I was thinking about a triangular design as well. I want to experiment with having the sides hinged at the apex. The idea is that they can fold for more effortless mobility and that they can have a variable width. I hope that a rope cross-brace will make the triangle stable ( or perhaps pegs in the ground). That way, I can use them to weed my beds and also my narrower pathways in the veg patch. The idea is to have a tractor coop in the centre of the veg patch with opposing doors.
I am also considering making the apex lower at one end so that it becomes an overlapping joint between sections.

You could include the cost of the whole affair. I've looked at so many variations of the theme and cost and availability of materials play a big role. Wood I understand is expensive now. Equipment for DIY projects also plays a big role.

This looks great! What is the dimension of the triangle? I did t see it… thanks!

Each triangle side is 23” long. Hope that helps! I’d love to see a picture.

      2-12’ deck boards $26
1-4ft wide roll of chicken wire
Smallest roll I could find was 50 feet. $27
You only need 12 feet so you’ll have plenty left over to build more 12 foot runs
So under 50 bucks with extra material unless you can find a smaller roll of 4 foot wide chicken wire

Why did the chicken cross the road...
    Finally the answer...
The farmers city cousin came to visit.. was asking all sort of questions..
One being. What happens when your chickens get old and dont lay any more eggs...
The farmer said that when they go in the stew pot...
    Millie heard this story...
    So where was millie going...
    To buy another dozen eggs

Thank you for this video! So if I've read and saw the video correctly. You took a deck board and ripped it into 3 boards. Then you cut them into 23" now it looks like two of the 3 boards of the triangle have the 30° cuts on each end but one of them doesn't. Is that correct?

I’m so glad you like the video! I’ll post a picture on the community tab so you can see what I did. I’m also going to redo the video to make it is clearer and maybe get some woodworking plans together for it.

Thanks so much! I hope it helps. I am hoping to redo the video to tweak a few things and we’ll leave off the captions. I also posted in the community tab details of how the triangles go together.
