I can relate to so many of the things you said, with my first online experiences being CS 1.6, joining the WoW beta back in the day and playing through the first couple expansions, enjoying Modern Warfare online on PS3 while for the first time using a HDM, those 720p… I remember the first time I played Ultimate Team in an old FIFA and it was fucking awesome. Age and nostalgia play big roles in our perspective, but I can’t help feel many things don’t feel magic as they did. Milked for profit, the priorities in game-making have very clearly shifted 😢
Liking your little video essays boss, keep em up! Always good food for thought

totally with you on this - me and my friends used to be a Battlefield 2, 3, 4 ... and after nearly a decade or two, we got excited for 2042 as a come back to the old days ... but this was short lived and heart braking ... so much of the original magic of the game was lost that we never touched it after the initial first few hours.
Now matured and playing MSFS 2020, appreciating the great community and none-competitiveness.

Battlefield is unfortunately a shadow of the game it used to be, I still have a small ounce of hope left that maybe they can bring it back with the next game😅

totally agree, i'm currently at a point where clicking dots in Aim Labs & Kovaaks is more fun than playing any of the current FPS games.
Not sure if it's the age, burnout or just the fact, that every damn FPS nowadays is a hero-shooter with gamebreaking abilities..

Fps scene is extremely stale, and has been for a few years now. Only fps game that been somewhat innovative and tried something different has been The finals but unfortunately it hasn’t seen the success is deserves

Excessive amounts of micro transactions, passes, forced cross play, etc. yup it really ain’t fun. Nor what it could be tbh.

I hate how it all makes you tied to 1 game just to get your moneys worth

I think they spend more time developing means of microstransactions then having solid gameplay. Also when they have certain skins available for purchase only and the ones you can work towards but have a time constraint makes me feel like what’s the point and not bother playing as there’s no incentive to grind for hours on top of work

100% agree. It’s like the build a game on micro transactions and then build the game around that.

I was never that much into multiplayer games but there were games that I put a lot of hours into. These days I'm much more averse to repitition. Playing the same game for 1000 hours sounds like hell to someone like me. Having to deal with rude insane people is also something that I just don't want to do and am much more bothered by in recent years.
I've no doubt that there will always be huge multiplayer successes but the talking point of how multiplayer games are the future of gaming is luckily heard less in recent years.
As soon as I hear multiplay I immediatelly lose all interest.
I've played multiplayer games casually that can be enjoyed solo from time to time in the past, but I always felt those games treated me like an idiot. I don't want to visit the shop to open a free bonus chest. Give me the damn item in game! I also don't want to pay for something that requires me to commit to playing the game for the next three months before I get for what I paid for. It would be so easy to just make these battle passes not expire... but then they couldn't manipulate you.
I quickly end up hating the game and anyone involved in its creation. If one of those games devopers would end up going bankrupt, I would actually be happy, because they wasted my time.

Activation took a franchise I loved (COD) and completely ruined it
