Just finished the documentary. The organizers are 100% to blame, was poorly planned and executed. Handing out candles was about the dumbest thing they could have done, basically here burn the place down.
Wait...shit...you were there too!! Hell, i went with my mom and sister after my mom wont tickets from 99.9 the buzz!! Just like you, i didn't join in the devastation...but i knew it was going to be a trainwreck when 10 mins after we arrived on day one and the portapotties were DIS-TROYED and we had to walk through puddles of $hit to get drinking water...Still saw Korn!
When Micheal Scher said he told Fred to stop the set after Faith I knew the doc was ginning things up a bit considering Faith was clearly the last song of the set and always was in those days.
Exactly what I thought ! John goes on about how he ended them early yet as far as I know LB already played all the songs everyone would have wanted them to play in 1999 pre chocolate starfish

That documentary was really good. I remember watching the coverage on MTV. I was 15 back then. It actually happened during my birthday

I found it interesting how Woodstock demonstrates the vulnerability to marketing based upon age. When Woodstock 2/94 happened. I didn’t go, but seeing it on TV as an 18 year oldI thought it was so cool and I wanted to be there. I was 23 when Woodstock 3/99 happened. I was not interested in the music or the event. I could see the marketing for what it was and it came as little surprise to me when I heard how people were getting ripped off. The sad f thing is that this scam still goes on today. Fyre fest is a contemporary example.

I think it was amazing festival, organizers were trainwreck, but music was a blast!
I've always found it interesting how every doc on Woodstock creates the narrative that the trouble started with Korn's incredible set and then continued during Limp Bizkit's set... 20ish hours later. They always forget to mention that if there was a safety concern during Korn, the promoters had nearly an entire day to remedy the issues. They were clueless though. Even years later they were incompetent!!!
These documentaries also often leave out the Rage and Metallica performances. Are we supposed to think those weren't rowdy as well?? Or, are those bands legally savvy enough to threaten repercussions for a biased documentary?
As a Korn fan, I'm so happy you were able to witness that. Amazing set.
The Netflix documentary doesn't gloss over the promoters fucking up in any way. Did you even watch it?
@@Guitarisforgrins I think he means that the documentary pinned a lot of the anarchy on Korn and Limp Bizkits sets. They completely left out the fact that rage and metallica played after LB. They tried to make out that after LB everyone went to the rave in the hanger and were very amped up, but as I said Metallica and Rage played after LB. Also the ''riots'' during LB were just people ripping off plywood to crowd surf. It's not like they tore the sound stage apart just because they turned feral. They also made out that at the end of the festival it was extremely dangerous and the crew feared for their life, but if you watch the camcorder footage everyone seems fairly safe and the danger does seem very high. There was media people taking photos of the fires and they definitely didn't fear for their safety, so that was also overblown and sensationalist.

Also, I didn't mention any bands, I mentioned whether the documentary pointed out the ineptitude of the promoters, which it absolutely did.
@@Guitarisforgrins Yeah, and I was stating that I don't think he's saying what you think he's saying lol. Okay, if you were there in 99, what riots did LB cause during their set, other than ripping plywood off. And if it was very dangerous towards the end, wanna tell me why not many people seemed that bothered about fires and anarchy. I've watched a lot of footage that captured the moment, and it doesn't convey what the netflix doc tried to convey.
@@earzy9729 they literally stopped the LB set to calm down the crowd because shit was getting too dangerous.

Indeed! Had I been ten years older (am now currently in my mid 30s) and gone to Woodstock '99, I most prolly would have broke stuff too at the end of the weekend!
@@mrconfusion87 yeah we were pretty pissed off about that. They totally price-gouged us but the bigger problem was that we didn't anticipate how far they'd go. We literally didn't bring enough money. We thought we had, based on other similar shows at the time.. but we had no idea how much they were going to actually charge us for water and food.
You really didn't have any other choice unless you left to go into town for food and water but once we were inside the festival....leaving for food and water didn't really feel like an option for us.

I was there too. Had the weekend of my life! So much fun! It was gross and hot and crazy... but it was awesome!
I wasn't involved at all in the destruction... but I remember it all!
I'm jealous. I bet it was fun. I was 21 in 99 so it would have been fun despite of the chaos.
@@nitebluesky I was 17 at the time. Just graduated high school. It was the craziest weekend of my life. I'm genuinely not sure how we survived it. I can't believe no one died that weekend. It was that crazy.

This was a better documentary than HBO's. I hated HBO's where not only blamed (sort of) the people who ran it, but blamed Nü-Metal bands too, and other things too. I'm glad Netflix showed the people who were at fault, which was the people who ran it.
The second most irresponsible rock performance. Next to Gimme Shelter, this is the worst public music debacle ever
