Taking the silhouette apart helped me figure out the problem. One of the screws near my rotation wheel was loose so it was grinding on the plate as it rotated. Find that screw & tighten it down could help
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH. I was so frustrated when my machine started making this awful sound. I was able to take it apart successfully and find this stupid little peace of ... well, i don't know what. BUT I FOUND IT!! And I did it. THANK YOU!!!!! And i even got it back together and its cutting great now! You have no idea how much i appreciate this video!!!
Mine came out of the box shrieking, so thinking nothing was stuck but will give your method a try as it's extremely unpleasant to use. Great video! thankyou. It was nice to hear an aussie accent. Btw this is my second cutting machine and the design is abysmal. I've never come across such inefficient and unnecessarily complicated tech in my life! engineers can put people on the moon but a freaking lit up workspace and sound proofing aren't worth it? I'm glad they don't make life support machines.
I really enjoyed your down to earth style. The error message on my silhouette was that it wasn’t registering properly. I tried cleaning it, moving the mechanism (not six times though), blasting it with canned air, and manually registering. None of it worked, and the movement of the cutting component was inconsistent and sometimes grinding. The problem for mine was that the screw holding the cog mechanism had come a little loose and was bumping up against another bit of plastic in the casing. I would never have found or fixed that without your video. Thank you!
Thank you for this! I'm cutting a bunch of stickers to sell at a big convention this weekend and my Portrait 3 started miscutting and making that awful grinding noise. I'd tried the tips you mentioned from other videos with no luck, but then I found this and that bit about something getting stuck on the lower roller made me look for it, and sure enough, there was a gob of masking tape stuck to it! Everything's cutting fine now, and I'll be able to make the stock I need for the con! Cheers!
Thank you so much, mine started making this awful noise yesterday, being in in India and having no idea where to get this repaired........ I thankfully came across your video, had a good look at the bottom roller there I found the culprit, and bit of masking I had used to secure the right roller had broke off. All fixed now, thanks a ton.
Thanks for the video. By looking at what was causing the problem, I saw that lint was compacted on the lower roller in the two places where you had glue. I cut paper and card stock mostly not vinyl. I was able to pick it out with dental tools rather than disassemble it. Solved the problem.
Omg, Thank you so much.. mine got stuck yesterday and I was at a lost and I just ran across your video. I followed you and it worked. It is working perfectly now. You are a life saver cause I was going nuts.
Thank you for the video. I had already narrowed down the issue to the bottom roller, but was lost at that point. My vinyl rolls are sealed with tape, and my last job the vinyl got stuck at the end of the roll with the tape still on it. Your suggestion of a qtip with alcohol worked to clean the sticky residue off of the bottom roller! Fixed in about 10 minutes and didn’t have to take the machine apart!!
You should start your own how to troubleshoot silhouette. I did have to contact S doe to my right roller does not stay locked position and thus mat flies around. They told me to move cutting blade back and forth just like you said. No help at all. Looked on internet could not find anything. Your video helped me understand mechanics of Cameo. Any suggestions on how to fix right roller that will not stayed in locked position? Thanks
I had the same problem and glue fixed it. A fast drying glue (those types that come in little bottles). I just put a drop right on top of it after locking it in place. Be careful not too out too much that your roller is glued down and wouldn’t roll. It’s been months now and not shifting out of place.
I have a problem with my carriage. It won't go to the left like it's supposed to do, it goes to the center and starts cutting from there all the way off the mat on the right! I've moved that dammed carriage back and forth so many times and still nothing will make it get unstuck from the center. Can you please help me as no one else seems to be able to? It just seems to be stuck on going to the center and cutting from there.
Hi I have been having a similar problem. I contacted their company and they told me that the crash stopper has likely been broken and I would need to send it in to be fixed.
@@reginamiller588 They never gave me any reason and I literally had to keep emailing them in order to even get a response to send it in. I also feel that is quite unfair for their Canadian customers to have to send things off to Utah when they have a company right here in Canada! It would save time and money and hold ups at the border to get a replacement machine before Christmas which is when you need your machine the most.
Thank you! I moved my motor and attempting to see if that fixed it but wanted to be a step ahead if it didnt. The dis assembly looks easy enough. Thanks for this.
Hi. The top part of my cameo 4 popped out of place. I dont want to break anything and cant find any videos on how to fix it. I just got it. Can you help?
Hello, Please help if your able, the left side of blade holder is cracked. Can this part be replaced? I was cutting some Orical 651 and the Premium blade I was using popped up & I saw the circle on the gear box that holds the blade in is cracked. :( thank you
Hello Dan!!!! I just bought my silhouette cameo PLUS and registered my account, then downloaded the software and I get an error when installing it. I think it is because I had connected the USB machine to the computer before installing the software. How can i fix this? What can I do now? I do not install the software Thank you
How come the blade holder thingy doesn't move for me. It's stuck at it's usual position when not in use and can't be moved. It only moves by itself when turning on, but then again, I can't manually move it.
Hello, how could you help me since I have problems with the connector on the motherboard where the screen is connected in cameo 3 so they sell me the damaged plate or where I can buy it
Taking the silhouette apart helped me figure out the problem. One of the screws near my rotation wheel was loose so it was grinding on the plate as it rotated. Find that screw & tighten it down could help
Thank you for this video! My husband followed your instructions and fixed my Cameo. Got some gunk off the gears. Runs smoothly now!

I wished to listen a "before / after" sound comparison.
Thanks so much! Found a huge clump of glue stuck in mine. So helpful!
woo hoo. I have the original cameo. Much easier to take apart. And this tip fixed it. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Gave the cogs a good clean and problem resolved.
oh thank you! more please. this was not my issue but i learned so much from your video!!!

Rip it apart and show it who's boss! Glad it helped.
Impressive, but I am sure this is beyond my patience level..
