Tesla Model X E-Tron I-Pace Mercedes-Benz EQC Choose one & why! EDIT: Check out this video of the new E-Tron Sportback S! Should I try & review it?? ua-cam.com/video/EgWYX-RyTVs/v-deo.html
Model X or iPace for sure... iPace because it's the most unique-looking and sporty, and Model X for all its tech, features, autopilot, and SuperCharging network. Having driven all but the EQC, I can't stand how "slow" the E-Tron is (for an EV), as well as its subpar handling.
E-Tron for me. I don't care much for acceleration performance. What I'm interested in is quality materials and style. Audi always hits it out of the park.
Forrest's Auto Reviews Tesla Model X because it stands out in my opinion and also it’s the Fastest SUV well the second fastest to 0-60 and also it’s just a nice design so yea.
Forrest - I'm surprised that you did not try, or mention the voice commands that are available with the E-Tron - and the Alexa integration. Telling the car to adjust the temperature is easier and safer than messing around on a screen to locate the controls. Just a heads up. Thanks for the review!
Great review. As someone interested in purchasing an Audi E-Tron, it gave me a straight up review of what it would be like to actually own the car. Car looks great and I think there is an E-Tron in my future.
Great review! Thanks! The range increases the slower you drive and the more stops there are - it's an EV with substantial re-gen ;-) I get about 200 miles range on highways at 80 mph average speed with my E-tron (live in Europe), car set in Comfort mode, normal winds and around 50 degrees outside. This range is substantially increased in the city and in warmer weather. Love the car, but build quality is really not up to what I expected. The absolutely best thing about the car is the noise level. I get 68 db at 80 mph on Northern European highways with really noisy asphalt surfaces. That is Bentley sound levels. Never experienced that quietness before in any car. (Should be said I used to drive a Volvo V90 T8 plug-in hybrid which is known to be a little bit noisy.). Adding to this is charging speeds which is super good - about 150 kW from 10-80 % which is far far better than a Model X or an i-Pace.
I agree, the e-tron is a great car so it comes down to how you use it and what you value in a car. The e-tron is stylish and elegant, from behind when it get darker it's awesome compared to the X. It's a fine line really, however I chose the X as I like the "self driving/ drive assist", spend a lot of time on highways and it drives me very allowing me to arrive more fresh. If Audi would have the same drive assist capability, well a hard choice that would be :).
Great job with this review! Small note: you actually can run the AC/heater while charging, but you will have to start it through pre-conditioning (under the Climate menu). It will then cool/heat the cabin to desired temperature for 30 minutes, even if plugged in. Obviously this is not the best solution, but it does in fact work. This can also be done by using the phone app.
You have missed some items about the e-tron. The one you have should of had soft close doors. The center console arm rest does slide forward. The Frunk has a space under the storage space for tire repair items. I have also seen where the head lights will illuminate different patterns on entry and exit.
The soft close doors it did indeed have but I just failed to mention it. The armrest did slide forward but I was referring to an actual cover over the middle storage space. As for the lights, the U.S spec does not get that. You may be thinking of the new E-Tron Sportback which WILL have the headlight animations in the US. Thanks for watching and thanks for being interactive!
My favorite mode is efficiency and then I use the gear to change between E (normally D) and S (sport) if I need a quick boost. Drives like a dream. The range is not as bad as people think on this car. Yes there are longer driving cars but guess what, the interior in them stinks.
Impressed that there was no noticeable “vampire” drain during your stop in Palm Springs. A minor annoyance you have to live with in a Tesla. A fine looking car - rooting for all EVs
I’m a big proponent of electric propulsion however looking at those numbers there’s definitely progress to be made . I drive approximately 60k miles a year , my current daily driver gets about 34 mpg at 80mph on the highway . With a 12. Gallon tank I am approaching 400 miles range on about $24 in gas . At this point I just can’t justify going electric .
Hey man i wasn't able to watch the vid but just listen due to time constraints, curious what the average speed was for the range test if you have that number. Every 5mph makes a big difference
larry Spiller average said 51 but I also had moments of traffic where I traveled about 8MPH. Obviously that dropped my average but I traveled between 66-71mph depending on the speed limits. Always stayed 1-3MPH above the limit.
People need to ask thes questions before purachsing any electric cars 1) How many charges does it take before the battery starts to slowly degrade ? 2) What is the cost of replacement batteries? 3) What is the environmental impact of discarded batteries ? The battery capacity decreases over time
Big Smoke thanks for the response , I meant long term battery storage capacity, it degrades over charge cycles. If you get 100% on a brand new battery today , you’ll probably will get around 80% of it’s original capacity after several charge cycles. Essentially an electric car will lose its range after many charge cycles
MrSpuzzz good to know thanks that’s negligible, Well know know more about long term battery life as more and more people starts using them , I wonder what the cost of replacement is
Grey Phantome right now it’s very expensive. Like I’ve read >8k maybe even $15k. But by the time my battery warranty expires 6 years from now, battery recycling companies will have plenty of supply of used batteries to produce replacement packs at much lower costs. And who knows what the future holds for new battery technology? We may have 600 mile ranges at half the current cost, and a 20 year life span.
The way I drive my Audis and Porsches I would get 50% of the range in a Tesla or other electric car. A range test done on a highway after midnight on a Tesla showed a 26% loss in range by going 70 instead of 60 and i usually do 85 to 100+.
Electric life is based on going from charge station to charge station. A nightmare on a long trip. I had to travel in my Audi along with a 2022 Model X to Harvard from Toronto for graduations and I had to keep going far off the highway every 2 hours to find a Tesla charging station and it ruined my trip. On the way back I blasted back in 8 hours saving 2 hours or more at 85+.
‘This ones gonna have a light oyster interior’. ‘It’s gonna have the start button right there’. Weird way to phrase everything. It’s going to but doesn’t yet? Huh?
You don't say anything about the costs...what happens when the batteries worn out? In a diesel if the turbo goes out then you replace the turbo, in a reg engine a pipe bursts you replace the pipe which is not too much trouble but when the batteries for this E tron worn out then what? What would be the cost? How long these batteries run for before they go bust? 2 years? 3 years?
You bet, in 15 years you may need to replace that battery pack. Also just because it’s electric doesn’t mean there are no maintenance costs. Washer fluid ain’t free, you know ;)
My Girlfriend is in love with this car. Thank you for post a review on E-Tron. Wouldn't mind getting one and posting more content on my Car review Channel.
Nice review. In this special case i can only say, poor America. Here Audi is able to use plug and charge on some charger, use smaller rims to get more range and the distance between hypercharger is around 100mls. So no problem to choose an Audi.
You’re talking about the user interface, but then call Tesla the obvious leader in the segment, but what segment are you talking about? Because when it comes to the luxury SUV segment Tesla isn’t even in there. A segment isn’t just an electric vehicle. A segment is exactly that a slice of pizza. So within electric SUVs, there are segments of entry-level mid range, luxury ultra premium, etc.. Now, when you’re talking technology, Tesla blows everybody away for sure. However, one of the first things I appreciate when I get into an Audi is how solid it feels when it’s on the road. Not to mention fit and finish is just real premium and not pretend premium with contrast stitching and cheap materials. And God do I appreciate buttons. Give me more buttons. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to turn on my cameras. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to open my trunk. I don’t wanna have to flip through a menu to turn on my windshield wipers. Button buttons buttons :-)
Just bought a 2019 3 weeks ago and I love it. On a full charge I get around 240 miles if I dont burn the air conditioner and if I DO, it's about 215. I have gone to the fast charger twice to top it off and it charges fast. I am waiting on the electrician to put in a new line so I can install a 50amp breaker and the 240 plug. I test drove a Tesla and I didn't like the cheapness of the the LOOK of the car. I wanted a regular luxury car that just happens to be electric and all of those people who are talking about how Tesla goes from 0 to 60 in 2.6 seconds need to go sit down. I'm sure its mostly testosterone filled males who plan on getting off to gunning it every time they leave the red light but that will eat your battery up. The Etron's takeoff is way better than a gas car but not as quick as a Tesla. I love my first EV and would never go back to gas. If I need to take a trip further than300 miles, i'll just rent a gas car. I never take road trips.
boofighter it gets 27mpg max on the highway. Considering California gas prices ($4 a gallon right now for premium fuel) and the fact that it has a 16 gallon fuel tank, $29 will get you about 200-215 miles on fuel. Only reason I put California prices is because the electricity prices are higher here as well. Both gas & electricity prices drop in other states.
Forrest's Auto Reviews so the e-Tron is really comparable to the gas vehicle. That’s interesting. It’s also interesting to see that the price for the electricity is about the same as a tank of fuel.
boofighter Only with Electrify America stations. EVGo is cheaper and Tesla is the cheapest since they own everything and don’t have to go through a 3rd party. The Model 3 costs about $15 max for a full charge and the Model X gets free supercharging.
That's in Cali but where I live it is .32 if you dont have a membership and .16 if you do and I only pay .10 cents per kilowatt at home. My electricity bill for the mth was only $32.00 more for 5 weeks. I had an SUV and I was paying almost $400.00 a mth in gas when it was at it's highest so now, I'm paying only $32.00 a mth for fuel. Sounds like a no brainer to me and I dont ever have to pump gas again and no longer afraid of being robbed/carjacked pumping gas or losing a catalytic convertor anymore.
I drove my 9 year old BMW 520d 320 miles last week at approx 75mph most of the way. Smooth and quiet. It did 53mpg and I still had over 700 miles of range left. I could have pulled into any gas station and filled up in 3 minutes. You had to travel 20 miles beyond your home to find an e fill station. I will NOT be changing from diesel to electric any time soon.
Behind the rest of the world in terms of mirrors vs. cameras? Don’t fall for that trap. It’s laughable. I’ve seen those cameras & screens in real life. They are position awkwardly (you have to look down) and it’s not as clear as mirrors. Sometimes progress just for the sake of progress isn’t necessarily a good thing. And not to mention, more things to repair down the road.
I know.....28 dollars for about 180 miles. That’s about 6.42 miles per dollar.......This is what is great about Tesla and its supercharging system. Would have cost about 10 dollars for about 250 range. VW/Audi poured money into Electrify America and should have negotiated rates or built their own charging network. I like the E-tron and rarely use Tesla supercharging for my M3, but I like knowing that I have not getting ripped off supercharging. They want to sell these things, build a reliable charging infrastructure.
jason Fance audi (as part of vw group) poured money into EA because it was a penalty for dieselgate. Not sure they had any leverage to negotiate special accommodations like that.
I did the calculations...at $28.50 for 260 kms of range, it's almost twice as expensive for running cost compared with the diesel SQ5 which will consume 6.5 litres per 100 kms at 120 kmh..... Looks like it's a DUD.
What do you think is the basic idea of EVs? Save the planet? Or reduce pollution at street level? Or just a much better drive experience? Using already existing leather that would otherwise go to landfill could be said to be a good idea.
Those Electrify America chargers SUCK! They’re always broken or don’t charge at the speed advertised. They’re also exponentially more expensive than Tesla’s superchargers. The e-Tron just didn’t wow we at all. It felt like a gas-suv they converted to be electric. The technology is far behind that of Tesla’s cars and the range is pitiful considering it’s got a 95kWh battery. I’d rather have a Model 3 or Y than the e-Tron and keep $25K in my pocket. I hope the upcoming VW ID.4 is a better car that offers more range, more exhilarating performance and of course a much lower price. Hopefully VW doesn’t skimp out on content for US models like they normally do with their ICE cars. I would have preferred seeing a real world range test at a constant 70-80mph, which is how most people will be driving when going on a long trip.
I have heard bad things about EA chargers. Really puzzles me whats going on there. The European Ionity chargers seem to work mostly well, though. Hopefully, EA improve the reliability. You can find very fair real world range comparisons on Bjørn Nyland's UA-cam channel. He tests and compares EVs of all large brands. The e-tron strength for cruising/long distance seems to be it's very fast charging capability. Nyland says he needed about the same time on his 1000km test trip with the e-tron than with a Tesla X LR Raven, see ua-cam.com/video/TFu9pkpunuo/v-deo.html In November Audi announced they are working on improving the range due to better efficiency. The next update for the e-tron will add about 15-20 miles. They are aware and working on it. I think the ID.4 will have these improvements, too.
homeruniverse they need to work a lot harder than they’re doing. I also can’t believe who thought it was a good idea to install 6kW J1772 chargers when that provides such a measly charging speed. Most cars like Teslas can handle twice that. 44mph is a lot more appealing when you’re at a Walmart or something than a lowly 20mph charge. They really should also try to get a deal with Tesla to have either a CCS adapter released or offer Tesla-compatible ends on some chargers. Tesla is by far the most popular EV brand and I literally never see a single car using any EA chargers. Some of them will say the last successful charge was 2-3 MONTHS prior. Such infrequent use is insane. If they had Tesla compatible chargers they’d see their network use multiply probably 10X what it is now.
RJ 8U The average speed driven on this test was only 45mph. A Model 3 LR driven at 45mph would be able to go over 400 miles on a charge. Even at 65 mph Consumer Reports managed 350 miles from their Long Range Model 3.
@@CFG39 Frankly I'm not sure why the heck his driving so slow where he should just have driven like a normal pace like everyone else on the road like 75 to 80 mph to really get a real world driving range. This is why I dont trust car reviewer where cars are being lend to them by Manufacture 🙉.
a 12 months honest review from a real owner in english Part 1 : ua-cam.com/video/IOPFiR4pIhc/v-deo.html Part 2 : ua-cam.com/video/Rin-4HRFj4c/v-deo.html
It doesn't look like he has a subscription. Its $4 month to month, and easily pays for its self with one charging session, since the rates are massively cheaper. Also, when traveling in EVs you only sit on a time based charger while you are pulling max kW. As soon as it drops, you need to be off, and headed to the next charger. That could have been done for a fraction of that cost. I average about $0.04/mile on EAs network as a idea of what i pay.
@@Boy.Wonder I did about 40k miles in 2019 on their network and about 2800 last month. And the concept of "only put in what you need to get to the next charger" is so alien to our "fill it up for a road trip" mentality, that when I see people sitting on a charger past like 50-70% I've got to engage them, and find out why. Is it necessity? or do they have a fossil car mentality? It's always the latter. Recently EA, switched over to pay by the kWh in some states, at which point this doesn't matter. But from what I can tell, the subscription is still massive savings and worth getting.
'Very good review, thank you Forrest. For Audi, they should loose the upper, across-grill cooling vents, or at least make them less obvious. Everything else?...nice Audi. And what say ye, Lincoln, Cadillac and Lexus? Otherwise, the Tesla model X? ...sure it has a low Cd., but it looks too much like a Florida manatee or a beached whale in California on wheels (the CA whale fluke license plate would be most appropriate on it's tailgate). The X's goofing looking wing-doors that T.Bjorn found troublesome, are apparently a fun party trick until unreliability bites you in the _$$ at a most inconvenient time.
So, 229 miles on E-Tron.. more than EPA's 204 miles? Nice... still not as good as Kona Electric that you did at 299 miles... Next, can you test Kia Niro EV. I know they are similar cars, but still would be nice to know its real-world range to compare with Kona Electric.
Its seem like your driving pretty slow giving everyone is passing you in the freeways 😆. 70 in California freeways is slow mode everyone seem to be driving 75 to 85 mpg. Try that and see what will be your range 👍. 204 from EPA is pretty accurate.
Ok, do the math... $28.50 in charging cost, to go 164 miles (it had 11 miles range when he started). 17 cents per mile! My S Class Mercedes is 10 cents per mile in fuel... duh
That’s fucking bullshit........, all that time to charge a fucking battery......, thank god you weren’t in a emergency......., nah......man.....I’m good....
So it has less range is slower and costs more to charge. And it’s a German car so will not have indicators and needs driving like a prick. Tesla then, Next!

How much it’s the price?
You cant do a serious range test and run the chair massage for hours
It hardly used any energy according to the car. It’s also less realistic for me to run the car base with nothing on. Nobody will drive this that way.
How far can you go in a Q3 with $29 of fuel?
boofighter it gets 27mpg max on the highway.
Forrest's Auto Reviews thanks for the good info. New to your channel and am liking your style so far.
boofighter Thank you! Glad to have you here! 👊👊
Is this the 50 or the 55?
It is the 55. The 50 only charges with 120kwh
Great review although as a bald guy your hair is killing me
Hahha my dude
Love it
We managed 445 km on our long term fleet 2019 Etron Progressive fyi
mine says 179miles fully charge but i get well over 20miles every time.
HBY is that on the Etron 55 or 50
@@rossparker3770 Audi USA only sells the etron 55. We do not get the 50.
$23 in electricity cost to go 230 miles or $.10 per mile is about what you would pay for a gasoline car. Why bother with the headaches??
Well because for 90% of your driving you charge at home. Cheaper and sooo convenient. No headaches.
All cars use more fuel at higher speeds. It's physics.
No AC while charging? Really?
I drove my 9 year old BMW 520d 320 miles last week at approx 75mph most of the way. Smooth and quiet. It did 53mpg and I still had over 700 miles of range left. I could have pulled into any gas station and filled up in 3 minutes. You had to travel 20 miles beyond your home to find an e fill station. I will NOT be changing from diesel to electric any time soon.
But can u fuel up at home? And wake up to a practically full tank of gas everyday?
@@jessieshowers6443 I agree. He just doesn't like change.
Is this a Quatro?
Good Jop bro 👍
E-tron best ✌️
Behind the rest of the world in terms of mirrors vs. cameras? Don’t fall for that trap. It’s laughable. I’ve seen those cameras & screens in real life. They are position awkwardly (you have to look down) and it’s not as clear as mirrors. Sometimes progress just for the sake of progress isn’t necessarily a good thing. And not to mention, more things to repair down the road.
Driving on the freeway seem "loud" road noise...
Check out Tesla Bjorn Nyland.
He is the most serious ev tester on the planet.
Etron is very quiet per history tests. Maybe the quietest
70c a minute wtf thats expensive
Can you do a video on the infinity Q60 S PLS!!
Massage all the way baby none caring of the car died😂😂😂😂😂😂
Alboqami 😅
The sub-optimal efficiency and lacklustre charging network are deal breakers. In colder climate the range will be a problem. Disappointing.
I did the calculations...at $28.50 for 260 kms of range, it's almost twice as expensive for running cost compared with the diesel SQ5 which will consume 6.5 litres per 100 kms at 120 kmh..... Looks like it's a DUD.
99% of charging is at home - costs me about $7 to do a full charge.
Peter Emmett Wie kommst Du auf 260 km? Am Ende waren es 370 km.
He got 237 miles which is 380km. And average person charges mostly at home.
That charger was way more expensive than any Tesla supercharger.
Great review as always. A point of contention via a viv EV’s with leather interiors. It doesn’t square with the basic idea of such a car. IMO.
Nyland says he needed about the same time on his 1000km test trip with the e-tron than with a Tesla X LR Raven, see ua-cam.com/video/TFu9pkpunuo/v-deo.html
In November Audi announced they are working on improving the range due to better efficiency.
Agreed driving 65 to 70 in Cali is redicoulous. 75 to 80 is the sweet spot for freeways specially in road trip.
This Audi sell like hot bread in Norway.
Don’t all evs? Heard evs have 60% of the market there...hope the US follows suit
369.6 kilometres for us Europeans
The Audi is way better looking than the model X. And more importantly is much better built and more comfortable than the Tesla X.

70 cents/minute????
It's Cali.
about $35 to charge this car for a range of 200mi. I could spend $35 and get 500mi in a gas vehicle that costs half the price. Whats the point?
Because charging fully at home is like $5.
Travis Burdess wow. That makes sense
Jordan Peele
I don’t see it.
All evs gets more than epa range except Tesla. Always 30% less and they have the biggest battery outthere
You never mentioned the cost and the crap paintwork

"50 Cent" with afro :P
“Errbody in club gettin tipsy.”
Its seem like your driving pretty slow giving everyone is passing you in the freeways 😆. 70 in California freeways is slow mode everyone seem to be driving 75 to 85 mpg. Try that and see what will be your range 👍. 204 from EPA is pretty accurate.
2 miles/KW not very impressive. Also big questions about build quality if you look at videos showing leaky doors and poor electrics.

That range is horrible can't compare to Tesla or most other EVs released after 2017
Ok, do the math... $28.50 in charging cost, to go 164 miles (it had 11 miles range when he started). 17 cents per mile! My S Class Mercedes is 10 cents per mile in fuel... duh

How much did Audi pay you...
imagine farting in this small thing.
Someone call the cops, that guy stole the car
So it has less range is slower and costs more to charge. And it’s a German car so will not have indicators and needs driving like a prick.
Tesla then,
Next!
