What is inside a Polyphaser lightning arrestor

    The little greyish box inline with the center conductor is the Cap that has failed. That is after the overvoltage is supposed to bleed off to ground. Evidently the surge was high enough to kill the radio and the cap before the bleed was successful.

    That should be a gas module that shorts to ground to bleed off lightening spikes. Nothing will protect from a direct hit. Same that telephone companies use on landlines.

    So do these not use a grounding wire that is attached to the arrestor then to the ground rod? I notice others have a brass/copper screw to land your ground wire to these are confusing me lol. Also.. does this ground the shielding or the center conductor as well ?

      You ground the device to a outside ground rod

      @@Radionut63 so it just mounts directly to the rod? I was under the impression you could run a wire from the arrestor over to the rod.

      @@ChristiannTyler it goes inline with your coax, ground connects to it and then to the ground rod
