A word of caution; check on the inside of those alpha delta surge protectors for aluminum burs that could short out your radios . Sometimes they don't clean them out good and the bur could touch the inner conductor and short out. I found a piece of bur in mine after my radio and power supply fried. No it was not lightning never had it connected during any storms.
I'm kind of confused, isn't the entire purpose of this clamp system to mount to your ground rod? So you still need the ground wire going from the clamp down to the bottom of the same ground rod? Or are you supposed to run the wire from the clamp to some other grounding rod?
Hello. I have a Comet CHA 250 hd( verticle). Its on two ten foot fence post for a mast and attached from the ground to the side of my roof. . My question is do i need to run copper ground wire from the antenna connector to the grounding rod, or should i just. Ground the mast since its metal? Thanks
I suppose if you are in the US then this would maybe prefereable ..personal touch and all that . Do you have experince of this email stuff or 3rd hand ?

Having worked on commercial sites I have gained a lot of knowledge about grounding. I have seen ground rods inserted into the ground at all three legs on freestanding towers. The ground rods are connected to each leg of the tower with braided copper wire used for lightning rod protection, in turn they connect all three ground rods with the same cable forming a delta pattern and this is usually buried a few inches under the dirt. Several sites have grounded the shelters that are metal to the ground system of the tower. That Alpha Delta ground "block" can be attached to one of the rods but it’s a good idea to place a plastic container over the device to keep excess moisture from causing issues. A little gravel under the container helps. You could purchase a plastic NEMA Enclosure and mount the box on the side of the building and place the grounding assembly inside and run a heavy single conductor or braided line to the ground rods. This way your coax can enter under the box and feed into the protectors. Now the output cables from the protectors can stay in the enclosure, just drill a hole from the box into shelter, use silicone sealant around the box to prevent moisture and bugs from entering the enclosure. Alpha Delta doesn’t seem to answer questions about their lightening arrestors by email. I hate having to call on the phone for stuff like this.
