Very slick recovery operation. It’s amazing that the relatively thin steels of the truck track takes the weight of the tram on the slope up to the truck bed .

Interessante video! Wel behoorlijk dom bij 8:34 om daar zo te gaan zitten. Als er een wiel langsaf glijdt dan heeft die man een tram direct bovenop zich liggen.

I used to drive cranes that ran on rail tracks and at the end of the tunnel project a low loader truck arrived to take the crane away. The driver was a bit bemused as he thought his was collecting a crane on caterpillar tracks, not rail tracks.
We had extra rail sections already prepared, put one set on the truck bed and the other made up the ramp, that was duly shored up with timber chogs.
I drove the crane on, the ramp was stored under the crane for unloading. The electric lower cable disconnected. The driver chained down the crane and drove away bound for London.
The tram companies trailer is a fantastic piece of equipment and I'm pay for it self in no time. Thanks for the informative video and it was very handy the office building doorway was in the right place.

I never gave the recovery of a failed tram any thought. A very slick operation but would it not be easier to tow it with a recovery vehicle. And I always worry when I see people standing near a wire rope under tension. If it snaps it can take somebody's head off.

Towing would have been a better bet, but most propably there are no rails to where the demolition is to take place.

Но обычно неисправный трамвай буксируется в депо другим трамваем.

Ik dacht precies hetzelfde. Er fietsen gewoon mensen langs de dieplader, eigenlijk levensgevaarlijk.
Nooit gedacht dat dit zo werd gedaan. Ik dacht altijd dat dit gebeurde in de stelplaats met een lift of zo. Bedankt voor deze leerrijke video.

The tram is right outside it’s depot, it’s not damaged, but it’s set to be demolished at a scrapyard, they took of some pieces to put back onto other trams, therefore it looks broken

Как же они долго работают, у нас бы другой трамвай пригнали, сцепили и всё, в депо, либо такую же штуку НО собирало бы человек 5 что бы максимально быстро и эффективно все сделать.

With technology you’d think they would have an easier mechanical way to set up, or a track line to the repair shop, where it could be towed to.

50 and more years ago in Brisbane Australia dead trams were recovered by one man with an exarmy crane truck. Lifted the front and drove along the tracks to the depot.

That trailer must have steerable axles.
I’m pretty sure they are, pretty common on all heavy equipment moving vehicles to have the rear wheels steerable independently

Can you imagine the British trying to do this same operation? There would be a forest of warning signs, traffic cones, triple the number of guys, reams of paper being written on, checklists being ticked, Overseers overseeing and it would all cost £42000, take 7 months and an Act of Parliament.

@@gromit3315 volgens mij doet deze tram 'geen dienst', meer, er had beter 'buiten' kunnen staan, maar ja dat is ook overbodig aangezien die niet in de remise staat... Ironischer is dat er staat, 'Groot Herstel Tram'... Dat ie kapot is lijkt mij duidelijk. 🤣

That's a neat ramp solution for loading.
I wonder why they just did not use a truck to pull the tram on the original tracks. I am sure the tram track connect up the the maintenance barn. That would be how they get trams into and out of service.

The need must arise often enough to have a suitably-equipped truck available.
During the summer months trams are often redeployed from Ghent/Antwerp to the coast to deal with increased demand, so these would get used at least a few times per year.
Not to mention they'd also be used for delivering the trams from the manufacturer.
And judging by the fact that this trailer can also be configured for a wider track it stands to reason it could be used for moving rail cars as well.

@@stafvanopstal Same method as in the video, except it is a fixed ramp, located in the depot. It is used as well for delivery of new trams and metros.
Most places here in the US they send another tram out or 8 unit setup for recoveries and they just tow it to the shops

die dieplader wordt dan toch ook niet veel gebruikt, normaal zou je zeggen voor treinen maar het is meterspoot dus echt speciaal voor trams
is al veel gebruikt afhalen van oude en binnen brengen van nieuwe en de dieplader heeft een platte vloer dus 👌
