Fun fact is when heather shouts “what is that” when they are running away, they were supposed to pan the camera over so you would get a quick glimpse of the Blair witch, but they forgot, someone was actually in costume stood there but never got recorded

@Danny Lix Kandi Imagination of the unknown can be the scariest thing of all. There's a small story I heard on the radio when I was a kid about a girl in a rowboat out in small cove and ending still scares the f*ck out of me. When she's in the rowboat she's writing in her journal about her day and whatnot, then there's a small knock from underneath the boat. She's startled but passes it off as a branch or whatever underneath the water but later on it happens again and again. Finally she thinks there's something underneath the boat that's caught so she puts in one of the ores trying to fish it out but it's grabbed out of her hand! It's dark out and the water is murky, she can't see anything underneath. She's scared so she decides to try her best to paddle away but the same thing happens and it's grabbed out of her hands! There's nothing she can do but right in her journal so that's what she does. The next day the boat was found washed up on the shore, and her Journal was the only thing that was left in it. On the last page muddy and badly scribbled was simply the phrase "I knocked first".
It's never explained what happened to her but my imagination has kept chills down my spine thinking about it to this day!!! 0_0
@Danny Lix Kandi Hmmm that's true. I just watch The Blair Witch Project recently (like last night currently) for the first time and I'm just now comparing it to the trailer to the remake/sequel and the new one seems a bit more showy and in your face. I don't know I'm just sitting here having chills up my spine thinking about how the witch was manipulating these three people from behind the shadows and messing with there minds. Like maybe she actually forced Mike to kick the map into the creek and they were laughing because of her influence and just acting all weird and crazy because of her? That's kind of a scary thought and they don't even know. Also someone said that on the website that was formed back when this movie came out (part of the marketing) that it was said that the footage was actually found by old stone wall and there was never a house.........it's kind of scary to think that maybe the woods were actually shifting and changing on their own with the witchs dark powers and things were just appearing and disappearing at her will......... 0_0 NOW I DON'T LIKE THAT THOUGHT AT ALL!!!!!!!!
Legend says that Heather and Josh are still fighting for the map...

This is my favorite line in this video 😂

For those of you who are may be a little younger, let me give you some context. I was a high schooler when Blair Witch came out. There were NO "found footage" films at the time, at least none that were mainstream. You couldn't google something online in the late 90s, so hearing word of mouth that this "really happened" seemed like something that might be true, as you don't see anything in the film that couldn't have actually happened to someone. There was just enough doubt to completely creep you out. And that is why this film was a great horror film at the perfect time in history.
+Josh Dukes The biggest problem with this film and other films which are found footage is the camera shakes all over the place if you get motion sick easily you might be vomiting on the floor after watching the movie.
Google existed when this movie came out. So yes, yes you could just Google it.
+NHK LM could you physically with a 1 yr old Google choose to google something? Yes. Did anyone do that at the time? We did not. Not your average teenager. Most of my friends only had a PC for about 2 years at this point. The lucky ones had AOL and everyone had dial-up service.
JOOOOSSSSHHHH! I can remember the actors not doing any publicity for the film, staying hidden and feeding the "real" myth of TWBP....until maybe a month before release when one got cast in another film or seen in a magazine. Myth busted.
@Venus Moon True! The Green Inferno was actually Cannibal Holocaust's original working title.

@@calebm.614 If you have a map that's useless and you think it's a good map it just leads you astray, gives you a false sense of where you are and your surroundings, etc. It's better to have no map than a map that is wrong about everything.

*"What killed this dead mouse?"*
Okay, that question should have added one extra sin.
"I dunno, Heather. We *are* out in the woods. Not like there are any small-prey-predators in the woods."
It is supposed to be a joke.
TheWeirdNorwegianGuy
Well I was moreso pointing out the fact that she basically asked what killed something that was already dead, but you also make a good point.
jettythesunfish Had it been a person, I would get it, but who even asks what killed a small animal when located in the fucking woods?!
Geez, Heather. Get your shit together.
TheWeirdNorwegianGuy Yeah but wouldn't they have EATEN the prey and if it's a small mouse then what kind of larger animals kills a small one to eat then doesn't even finish it?
Fun Fact: The “that” in the “what the f**k is that” sequence was in fact a crew member running along with the actors off to the left dressed completely in white. He had a white mask covering his face, so that he looked like a featureless white figure. When Heather shouted the line, the camera man was supposed to pan to the left, but forgot to. Therefore in the finished film, the audience are left to wonder what was scene.
This fr?

Supposedly during the "attack" the cameraman was supposed to turn and see the Witch standing in the distance on a hill. But he failed to do so and we thusly never got to see her at all.
I heard that the actors making the noises and such had a bet to not be seen by the cameras or else they'd buy everyone lunch. I think that's a cool concept because the actors (the main three) COULD have seen the witch unexpectedly
I remember the scene where Heather is filming Mike drinking water when she suddenly darts the camera to the left because they hear a sudden rustling in the leaves

European Colonist watch films theory’s video on the Blair witch and now I believe that the Blair witch wasn’t the killer in this movie but I’m not going to spoil who is the killer
It's shown on the Blair Witch (2018) what would happen
I have mixed feelings about this movie, on the one hand I really admire the filmmakers for the simplicity and marketing to promote this film as reality. But on the other hand, the characters can be annoying, the shaky cam can really be annoying and I could see how someone would find it disappointing
That situation, when you're actually in it, would be annoying. The whole point of the movie is going through the same things as the characters, feeling annoyed when they are annoyed, so that when the climax of the film hits, you will have a connection to the characters and it will hit you pretty hard.
Paranormal Activity tries to do the whole "movie just ends on a sad note" thing where you want to know more, but it doesn't have any realistic, relate-able moments with the characters, so the whole "this could happen to you!" element completely fails, and you just don't care enough to wonder what happened.
Is Paranormal Activity a more casual viewing? Sure. But Blair Witch Project is art. It is an emotional roller coaster with great characters that makes you think long after it ends.
It's a lot like Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I love cheesey slashers, but TCM is the best of it's kind because there's no emotional manipulation with the characters. There is no teen in the movie who is the "villain."
Leatherface just murders people. The story is about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, with realistic characters and unnerving atmosphere.
The elements in this movie possibly annoying you is a completely valid opinion to have, and I agree the movie can be grating, but it really depends on the kind of movie you're looking for.

While it's cool and all, it's not nearly enough to make up for all the crap fluff and stupid map stuff this movie is full of. It's a really cool premise, especially for the time, but horrifically executed.
@@mycroft16 To be fair though, what else would you do whilst lost in the woods without a map except argue about the map and do fluff all but wander around until you get killed/get found/die? Being that it's a cinema verite-type project, they couldn't have the protagonists do or say what day-to-day people wouldn't do and say in that situation, plus you also want to avoid corny, on-the-nose, expositional, narrative-driven dialogue for a found footage verite project. You then kind of land up with very little to talk about, as anyone in that situation IRL themselves would likely find to be the case. The situation doesn't lend itself to Royale With Cheese dialogue or talking about the stars or the beauty of the forest or talking about anything really. You just get quiet and morose. But still, yeah, I do remember finding the map stuff tedious and them getting on her head about it tedious. Making art imitate life in a verite way can be pretty tough, regardless of the time.
@@spinblade6459 1. Stop arguing about the map and start getting your bearings. Plenty in the woods to make your own map with. You have the sun, you have streams/rivers, hills, etc.
2. Stop wandering and pick a direction and go. You know which way from the town the woods are, you know the cardinal compass points from the Sun. With the Sun it would not be hard to keep in a pretty damn good straight line even over terrain.
3. This is really basic boy scout level stuff here.

canadavatar Spanish flu hadn't been problem for 20 years at that point.
I love how cleverly this was made. The cast were left in the woods with some crew and things happened that they didn't know about so most of their fear is genuine, they weren't even scripted 🙄 and the best part is, so many tried to copy and failed 🤣
A 'found footage' movie can be done.
The way it was shot was great, and the mistakes made it even greater. As for the movie itself, I didn't really find it all that interesting without theories from other people.

+Robin Hood y u still here u obviously don't like this video (sorry I'm asd and ADHD if u don't know what it means google it 😐)
They were using 2 cameras, 1 colour and 1 b& w. It was probably due to the zero budget than an artistic decision.
@@wolfboyfilmsit also gives the audience an immediate visual cue as to which person is behind the camera. We know which camera is held by which person at any given time because the cameras show different colored images.
The thing I loved about this movie was how it never showed the actual witch/ghost, it was all psychological, and it didn't rely on cheap jump 'scares' (emphasis on the scare because theyre not actually scary) like a majority of horror film these days do.
i think jump scares are only good when you dont expect them and the dont really scare me as much but they surprise me
+Jay0253 but the children voices and their hands on the tent were not psychological.
+Tom Weschenfeller Yea, the tent thing was a jump scare. Besides, its hardly a psychological horror when its not scary at all. Idk about you but people walking through the woods with shaky cameras and arguing for 80 minutes is not scary.
Except it is. The entire point of the movie is to give you a first person account of being stranded in the woods, no supplies, and being toyed with and manipulated by a supernatural force that you can't see. Now, look at what I wrote, and then look at modern horror games and other media. Unlike those new ones, this movie doesn't just give it to you straight up, it puts it behind a veil. No jump scares, no shots of the actual threat, just strong implications. You are only limited by your own imagination, which obviously many people don't have.
Another good movie that doesn't rely on cheap jump scares is. The babadook and I highly recommend it
Shoulda been an 'everytime they said "map" bonus round'.
Its so true about the snacks.
The director only fed them just enough to make them angry at each other.
It got down to one banana and a protein bar each for the last 2 days of filming.
When Heather and Mike were fighting, they were legitimately mad at each other where Heather bit Mike. It's brought up when Mike says something along the lines of "If you bite me again, I will throw you in the woods".
Maybe I missed it... But I don't recall even seeing a witch in this movie
They went with the Jaws style of horror, where they don't show the threat for most of the movie. This movie never shows it.
+theguyshadows when you watch this movie with the extra audio comments the director says that there was a bet: make noises, try to not get caught on film. If we see you you have to buy the drinks tonight.
+theguyshadows so basically the way I see it is it could have just been some people fucking with them in the woods given that we didn't even see anything then pass it off as a witch movie
yeah, no witch, mostly noises. if you saw it in a theater, though, you could HEAR the damn witch all around you, like sometimes the back right, front left, right beside you. they did a fantastic job on the sound!! creepy as fuck
+Jigoku Shoujo (Jinx) that was the people snorting in the dark
"I'm sorry about the map... I made a little boat with it."
+Pucadupr WOW WHAT A DICK. Actually nevermind that sounds pretty awesome.
I'm sorry about the map...I forgot the tp at home😕
I actually thought the final scene where Mike is standing in the corner whilst Heather gets knocked unconscious/killed was such a genius reference to the story the guy told in the beginning in which that murderer used to do the same thing to those kids. The fact that Mike is standing facing the corner somehow against his will - presumably alive - is what makes that scene so scary, not to mention the kid's hand prints all over the walls.
And yes, I understand that everything this guy is saying is just satire.
problem is that scene is literally the only good scene in this movie, which is what makes it even worse than PA

I like “The Let’s See Who Can Act Like They’re Not Acting The Most Project”
The thing with The Blair Witch Project is that it's either terrifying for you, or boring for you. It relies completely on the atmosphere and the fear of the unknown. I'm a huge horror movie fan and I found this movie to be the only move to ever actually scare me shitless. It creeps me out to watch these three people tumbling down into this abyss of fear and anxiety together, more than other horror movies. The fact that you know something is after them, but you don't what it is freaks me out even more. In the final scene, when you just see the guy standing in the corner and camera drops is what freaks me out the most. The fact that we don't know what happened to them; whether they're even dead at all, all we're left with is that they disappeared and this is what happened to them last. This movie uses the fear of the unknown to the best degree, it made people work and use their brains to become frightened rather than give them everything on a silver platter. It didn't rely on imagery, which is why it was praised by critics. I understand why people may dislike this movie, but to say this movie is "bad" or "shit" is obnoxious.
exactly, fear of the unknown is way more effective than the typical slasher movie. When they walked in one direction for the entire day and then ended up in the same place they started at, that was really unnerving. Knowing that they are never going to get out of the woods, running out of food, losing the map, how can you not feel the fear. The arguing is because they are all afraid and taking it out on each other. It builds the anxiety. I read that Halloween is the scariest movie ever, but that did nothing for me.
I thought this movie was great. I think what would scare me the most is hearing that children laughter at night. That is freaky!!
+JKalama Liked the way you explained why you loved it. Personally it was only when they come to that "bunker" that did scare me, got really spooked out I should add.
The thing about them walking around in the forest was boring and not scary. I grew up on the countryside with large woods everywhere (no witches close though), so I never had any emotional investments for the 3 teens and their wandering around.
I do also as you understand why people either like it or hate it. City folks seems to like it and find it scary - sounds like a cliché though.
Be safe.
Yea if you take yourself out of the movie turn the lights on, volume down its not that scary
I completely agree with your comment. it really does depend on what scares you. even if the witch doesn't exist, getting lost and losing a friend in the process, that's scary, finding body parts, scary... not seeing some computer generated monster isn't scary most times... WE know what scares us individually, so we are forced to imagine what happened to these people. it was really good to me, I see the flaws and this video is hilarious....but it was good and it changed the game when it comes to horror. I'm actually getting kind of tired of the "found footage" type films, but this one started it all.
This pairs so well with film theorists blair witch video. This one asks all the questions and matpat answers them awesomely
Bunny yup
Bunny has just watched that it was great!
What if she got murdered by the two guys Instead of the “witch”... I mean think about it
It is a possibility... That Film Theory already suggested.
And if you look in Heather’s Diary it would support the fact
What about those noises they were hearing in the middle of the woods? What about the children banging on the tent? What about Heather opening that 'present' she finds outside of the tent which reveals blood and various parts of Josh? 😕
Adam Johnson
Watch the Film Theory about it. He raised a bunch of good points.
THAT IS THE PLOT! You had a better critique of this movie! The Diary is KEY!! This Cinemasins tool didn't even notice
1:20 "... most of whom died in the 1940s..."
Another sin because it shows a tombstone with the date 1907.
*ding!*
most is not all
Jack Crispy yes, but why show a year when talking about a different decade?
***** I mean I guessssssss
Jack Crispy It should get the sin for focusing on the grave of an infant from 1907, because they were discussing how an "unusual number of children died...in the 1940s." So while most is indeed not all, they should have at least put the right decade on there because of the age of the deceased.
The film is supposed to be realistic.
So there would be alot of arguing.
Idk, i really liked the movie. It started the found footage legacy. It was memorable
+SuperLemonadeGamer Both CH and BW has mentioned they where highly inspired by the 1930 swedish movie Häxan. The production company for the makers of Blair witch is actually called Haxan as a tribute to the old swedish flick.
+pekinobo Well look at it this way - I as someone who isn't big into movies haven't heard of them so whilst they may be found footage they didn't bring it to the mainstream in the way the Blair Witch Project did.
+jessevb Hey, it would be impossible to know everything.
Be safe.
+Hazy Nightmares Depends many people have a tendency to hate on found footage films, It's legacy seems to draw a lot of hate, some people like but if you watched older movies that are classic such as evil dead, you might get bored, also motion sickness is a thing.
I'm sure there are dozens of others that have already said it, but the footage was found buried under the foundations of a 100 year-old cabin by anthropology students. So when they find the house at the end of the film ,they've either been transported back in time (to when Rustin Parr murdered the children), or the house itself appears to travel in time. This also explains why their compass wasn't working and they walked in circles; they're basically in the witch's little bubble as soon as they found the first piles of rocks.
It just negates some of the sins is all. Still loved the video!
Ahhhhhhhhh, maybe that's the reason it sucks so badly!
Katherine DodgeReeves like a movie fake? You dont fuckin say!
i'm a fan of the story. It's fun to piece it all together which is why it's got two other movies and I believe some books. I actually wanted to make my own lol this movie was pretty inspiring back in the day.
it actually makes a lot of the sins even worse than they are and doesn't explain anything at all. Time travel does not remove issues about the compass and such. Film also degrades easily. specially when exposed to the elements and not stored properly in a very controlled environment so the footage would have been unwatchable. Amongst a whole other list of problems.
Now, now, now. There's no need to throw names. Yes, it's fake. But in the: 'Blair Witch Movie Universe,' it was found. :) I like the time travel idea! It happened a lot, in the: 'Blair Witch,' movie, too! :)
I couldn't get through this movie because I kept getting motion sickness. Also the first half would make a great documentary on trees.
This is one of those movies that I personally really like but simultaneously completely understand why so many people think it's utter shit.
I agree. Love this movie from the bottom of my heart. Amazing film-making.
I understand why people don't like it, there's legitimate gripes, but a lot of the hate seems misplaced.
Andrew Rabon Because people have differing opinions. I found the entire movie quite boring, the acting overdone, too much 'movie suspence' not enough realism (i.e. filming the car for so long. 'Take a look kids, we won't see that car again. But WE don't know that, and yet for some reason, I'm filming it like we won't, which we won't, even though I don't know that.') It was poorly made imo.
Andrew Rabon you do not know what amazing means. or film-making. or legitimate. do you even own a dictionary?
The ending is still terrifying to me.
Same with me and Cloverfield.
When I was a kid this movie was scary as shit
When I watched it again as an adult I wasn't scared whatsoever
Thats when I realized just how ingenious and ahead its time this film was. They literally made a couple millions off of trees, sounds, and the use of monochrome
Does anybody else want them to do everything wrong with the human centipede just to see what he comes up with?

The whole screen would have to be blurred out most of the time. And he's not that much of a masochist.
I can already tell you the biggest and most obvious sin from that film is how they managed to get from downstairs to outside with absolutely no problem, but when it came to it at the end it seemed like they'd spent the whole time downstairs and getting up was the hardest and most difficult thing they've ever had to do.
So I have NEVER seen that movie, not a single clip or scene from it. But I almost vomit just from the name. Hearing about that movie is more than enough for me, thank you very much =P That's one movie I'm gonna avoid like the plague my entire life

I saw a documentary about the 90s, and they said that this movie was the first commercial use of GPS technology. The director knew about it from some involvement he had in the Gulf War (filming stuff? I don't remember,) and he directed the movie solely through giving the actors GPS coordinates to get through the woods and then giving them each private letters about what they were supposed to do that day. For example, he'd tell Heather, "You have to stay in control of the group today as you get to your next location," and then the guys would get letters saying, "You have to take control away from Heather today." Really amazing use of technology at the time. I remember seeing this in the theater when EVERYONE thought it was real. It wasn't even released nationwide yet; we say it in LA during its initial limited release. Something having its own website was unusual at the time, and the very fact that there was a website connected to the movie made people think it was an actual documentary. I remember this big guy sitting behind me screaming, "What the f*ck?!" during the last half of the film. Pretty much everyone in the theater was scared shitless until the credits rolled and we figured out it wasn't true. My little brother hid in my room that night before I went to bed and stood himself in the corner like a little asshole, and it scared the crap out of me.
I like your little brother! :-P

without the sequels though, the theory is pretty solid. And you can't count sequels unless the story had already been set over the movies. If I remember right, the original creators expected the movie to stand alone, then a company bought the rights with the expectation of expanding the universe.
This means, the theory works with the original intent of the film and honestly, it makes more sense than the angle the company went with.
@@BustlingKiwi the second movie was created by a different group with different intentions for it.

"Hunted implies she hasn't found you yet. Fucked with is the phrase you're looking for" nailed it.

Lady, you're in the middle of the freakin' woods. Believe it or not, animals do tend to kill each other.
Brian Thomson The mouse could've died of natural causes as well. R.I.P. mouse.
What if the witch was the protagonist of the film? What if she was doing the people of that world a favor by removing these idiots from the gene pool?
She's not the heroine we wanted, but she's the heroine we needed.
So we'll badly attempt to document her because she can take it. Because she's not our hero. She's a silent guardian, a watchful serial killer. A Blair Witch. *Hans Zimmer theme*
Still better than the original ending

+Ciiah Kultti None of them wont reveal their true names, but the other ninjas names are Dr Snuggles, Inspector Gadget and Chewbacca
Since this movie had like no funding or money, there were only a few crew members and they actually spent weeks alone in the woods. It was psychologically very straining
They also only fed them enough to keep them alive.
The fact that she convinced those guys to go with her is baffling to me....couldn't convince me to go anywhere even remotely unknown with the notion that "we'll be ok"

I've spent my entire life watching horror films and becoming desensitized. And I can honestly say, that if you allow yourself to become immersed in this story, if you stop trying to hate and just let yourself suspend disbelief and watch, the way you're supposed to watch a horror movie, it is impressively scary and disturbing. 8/10.
apperiently you don't like personal opinions
+little miss pitbull apparently..... fof... flat out funny
I don't follow.
Well that's what Jeremy is supposed to do. If he didn't, there wouldn't be a video.
Ya I have spent quite a few lifetimes to seeing horror flicks myself. I love the suspense the not knowing However I remember when this movie came out so clearly it almost seems it was like yesterday, and the problem with this is that they marketed this movie to be a true and real story before the movie came out. So people had this expectation in their head of realism and that is what they were looking for when in fact not long into the movie you find that this is so ridiculous there is no way this was real and now it is just stupid. The marketing people behind this movie should have just kept their mouths shut and just let people walk into the movie with no expectations what so ever except for what you saw in clips like every other new movie and I will bet you 10 - 1 it would have been much more scarier and suspenseful for those watching it. That is just my thought. So much more to say but this to me seems to be the biggest point.
Ok. The ending part is what is great and people overlook it. Josh is a grown man. Yes, he is an adult male and is much more capable than the kids who were made to stand in the corner. Yet he stands there faced away from the witch anyway rather than fight or run. This mixed with the fact that the movie intentionally leaves out images of the witch tells us everything about the witch. That her appearance alone makes a grown man wait in the corner for his execution because he is that terrified. This movie is overrated, but dont talk shit about the great ending,
It's the best part of the movie, I'll give you that.
I'll agree that the ending is terrifying in its own right, and this is actually one of my favorite movies, overrated as it is. However, my personal interpretation is that it was the ghost of Rustin Parr who ultimately killed the filmmakers, still being forced in death by the witch to do her bidding.
I thought that was cause of magic... cause she's a witch.
How can an ending be great when NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS
Please I would have socked it I'm dead anyway!
Saw this when it first came out. The cinema audience remained noisy and restless and were making fun of the film, until they entered the house. Then everyone just went quiet :-D

Oh, this movie suffered hard from "Paranormal Activity Syndrome"; where they rely heavily on jump scares and all the good stuff is always shown off film. Guess this is where Paranormal Activity got their inspiration from then. So maybe I should call it "Blair Witch Project Syndrome" instead. Wait, that's the name of the movie. Lol @ the moronic, if not utterly ignorant people that act like "The Blair Witch Project" in all of its glory is the first 'found footage' horror film couldn't be more wrong even if they tried... Um, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1980) anyone? Despite its flaws, for a $60,000 budget only to gross 248.6 million dollars, THIS movie is actually rather successful to say the least.
nictheartist make it 1 million sins just because fuck it then another million for the shaky cam
I don't know why people insist on posting comments about "omg this video sucks that's not even a sin" etc. On the assumption that they're not trolling, just take a look at all the videos in the channel.
They're meant to be funny. Not meant to be a bloody movie review.

Well maybe its funny for 2-3 video i first watch

People thoroughly believed that this spooky story was real. That's how you know you succeeded in story telling.
Maybe a few but I'm sure the majority of people weren't gullible enough to believe a literal ghost/witch/demon story.
@@Edward-Not-Elric what matters is that it freaks you out during the night you're watching it
I fell for it 🤷🏾♀️
The thing that drove me crazy about this movie (other than the motion sickness) was the fact that they were never really lost. There was a strewn right there, after they found out that that they no longer have a map they I assume were just trying to make it back to civilization. Fine follow the stream. You can't go in circles the strewn only tracked one direction, and there was the guys fishing presumably by the road where the car was left. Why would anybody wander around in a strange woods while being stalked by a phycopath without a map?
They weren't exactly the smartest trio.
Also, stream, not strewn. And psychopath, that phycopath, though that might just be a typo.
Typos, yes I was writing from my tablet and it takes some liberties at to what I am saying at times.
I thought the witch manipulated the woods. That's why they could never escape and eventually went crazy. At least, that's what I got from the movie lol.
That is correct
I think at some point the woman was suggesting that the follow the stream. And there is a film theory that suggest that they really just wanted to kill the woman.
Anyone else watch these so they don't have to watch the real movie?
🙌me
+Eoin Newman If you watch this without watching the film first, then sir, you are a complete fu*king moron.

The actors in this movie legitimately believed in the Blair Witch and were legitimately scared in some of these scenes. Like, the tent scene, the director went up to their tent and scared the shit out of them. That was not scripted.
Almost the whole movie was improv anyway.
+WeActOnImpulse Official Do you have a source for that info? I'd like to read on.
+Wormy McSquirmy You can probably find the source on-line; I've come across similar stories.. the actors having their food stolen by the crew while they slept, having their tent shaken, their actual map replaced with a bogus one... etc. etc. lol
The Blair Witch Project was improv and ad lib. The film makers would drop food and supplies. The actors would use GPS to get to the different locations. They were given outlines as to what was generally happening on any given day with each character, but all of the acting and dialogue is ad lib and off the cuff.
Heather's famous confession towards the end was a bit of genius.
Not sure where you're getting your info from, but they are actors and this film was a work of fiction. Everything you see on screen was either ad libbed by the actors, or planned out by thr film makers. The actors were given outlines on their characters and situations, and they used GPS to get to various locations.
"We will have to go in because I can't resist the smell of gingerbread. " 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how many people actually got that?
It is funny that they had her be a witch. She could have just been a ghost.
I really hate this new comment layout on mobile devices
I hate the new comment format also. You make a comment on someone's comment, it doesn't even show it under the original poster's comment. It looks like it is posted as an individual post, under the rest of the other single posted comments. Or is the layout on my phone different from others?
I agree. Always
I like that you can now see the amount of 'likes' on a comment, and 'like' the comment now too. Also, with my layout at least, the comments which are in respect to a comment are shown beneath the original comment and those replies have their display photo circle borders smaller than the original commenter. The original comment with the rest of the replies are separated from unrelated comments by a horizontal line.

I wish I was alive to see this in theatre when it released. That ending scene shook me in my living room during the day. I can only imagine just sitting in the dark after the tape ends and the silent credits roll. Fucking terrifying.
I was 19. I was scared for over a decade to set a foot into the woods. And I live right next to a big wood. Even had to cross a part of 10 minutes driving home from cinema! There was mumbling online that it was found Camcorders in the Woods and Film Students re-created it into a film. There were other voices it's staged. I didn't even care about that chatter. Alone the possibility to walk in circles in wood - there needs to be no fairytale witch with human males - never crossed my mind before and what it actually meant! In a time where there were just merely mobiles out and def no signal in woods!! Not even 15 yrs later!
I understand why people consider this film a cinematic milestone (after all, it was an interesting new way of film...for its time)...that doesn't mean that it's not a bad movie. I remember being incredibly bored throughout the whole thing. Terrible acting, suspense that doesn't really show up until the last third and, bottom line, it's not scary. Just dull.
SuperLordGaming but did it have a nostril examination?
bjam89 Hmm...not that I recall. Damn Nostril Examinations.
this movie is as much of a milestone as stepping into crap is an eye opening experience.
Dull is the word.
umm, no, because its not that type of shit where some weird ass faces are jumping at you (personally it never scares me), but just the atmosphere itself is scary. The acting is perfect, because its not the usual fake film acting, thats how people behave in real life you know.

Those guys suck. It's not even a theory, just a hypothesis
So, my theory. There is no Blair Witch, nothing paranormal: Josh and Mike are killers who were screwing with Heathers head the whole time and in the end, they murdered her.
Maybe it's just a prank.
A year after this movie was let out the creators admitted it was fake and that it was a joke
Basically the directors put all of the actors (who are basically regular people, their names are the same as in the movie) and they put them through these experiences, basically they played with them and their reactions in the movie are real
I am completely aware of the fact, that this is a movie, not a true story. This is just my personal interpretation of said, fictional, story. It makes it more interesting, in my opinion, that there is no paranormal element, that the movie is actually about two serial killers tormenting their next victim.
I have a theory like yours. There's no Blair Witch. It's just their subconscious is playing tricks on them. Making them fear something is there when there's not. Which is why you never actually see the witch.
9:24 it looked like she was talking out of her nose🤣
sure, now everybody talks shit about this movie, saying " its not scary, its stupid" and all that crap. Come on people, stop trying to be popular.
I still like it to this day. A bunch of hate-bandwagon riders trying to fit in by agreeing with everyone else.
w-wait... the general consensus is "this movie is shit" is countered by one guy on one video saying "well I like it"? that's news to me. bandwagon's don't last for years, hating on one movie, unless there's legitimate reason. eventually the number of people that see a movie will outnumber bored drama queens, if a movie is good.
"Sure, now everybody talks shit about this movie, saying "it's not scary, it's stupid", and all that crap. Come on people, stop trying to have your own opinions."

The point of the movie was to give you the atmosphere and prepare for being scared when there is no scare. I guess some people just don't know what true horror is anymore. This movie had me scared the entire time. I was expecting something to happen, which is the point. It keeps you interested and scared.
***** I was expecting something to happen too, too bad nothing ever did.
Cinema Sins: Where I can kinda watch and understand horror movies with a sarcastic narrative and skipping around a lot. ergo I don't get nightmares.
tbh, i sometimes watch cinemasins first so i'm not so scared of the movies.
I don’t think enough people appreciate this film for its quality as a horror movie.
Through drama, desperation, isolation, and atmosphere, the film builds this tension and suspense where you are completely lost, there is no outside help, you don’t know what’s going to happen next, and no matter what you try, you are only delaying the inevitable. That buildup continues to grow more, and more, and more throughout the entire film until it finally culminates with an ending that leaves you with no definitive answer.
It’s a shame we only care about this film for it’s “Found Footage” style, because even though it isn’t perfect, or even that original, it’s still a d*mn good horror movie.
Actually, I belive that this wpuld be a pretty original idea for this particular movie. The found footage film was really made by this film if im correcf
I think this was a murder story between Heather and the guys
Am I the only one who enjoyed this film? Sure. It wasn't great, but at the time it was unique. And it scared the hell out of me, because the movie was more psychological horror (which is my favorite kind of horror). Then throw jump scares every 10 minutes and say thats horror.

I still wonder how this movie gained so much fame.
IIRC they went all out with the marketing. Some people actually believed that it was real footage and that the actors were dead.
Because witchery and shit.

The marketing for this film was unlike anything anyone had seen at the time, making people believe the events of the film were real. Some people still do. No other found footage movie came close to those kinds of sales.
