Nice video. I have been pretty happy with my 6637 setup. I didn't do any of the trimming on mine and it has actually worked out pretty well, but it gave yours a nice clean look. Can definitely hear the turbo sucking more air with it. You'll hear it even more with that foil being gone.
Definitely doing this on my 2000. A lot cheaper than a CAI and probably just as effective. Thanks for the great video.
I put a s+b filter on my 1996 F250 7.3 and that along with the improved exhaust system really helped with both mpg and hp.
Nice little project that makes a positive difference for your truck.
I just bought a 96 F250 and I have been all over the internet looking for the best things for it. Do you mind telling me the exact s+b filter you have?
@@chanandler8274 I cannot remember the exact 1 but you can go to the SB filter website and track it from there. They also have a really good customer service which helped me on the install and oil treatment.
On my 2001 F350 7.3 I went with the mod where a hole is cut in end (outside) of the air box, a sleeve installed for more volume. My choice for air filter is the Donalson Severe Duty filter.
That plug is for an air filter indicator assembly pn 5C3Z-9N622-A . It would be in your original filter box if equipped. Looks like yours was just capped. 🤙🏼

In my 97 sc400 Lexus I had to put in an aftermarket flasher to run LED lights is that the case with my 02 f250 ? Also the one on my Lexus IS adjustable is this one as well?
Love the turbo noice keep up the great video
If you want to hear the turbo more you should get rid of the foil insulation on the drivers side intercooler pipe. This made a big difference on my truck
FreestylePYRO what is the purpose of the foil? I though it was to keep air temp down.
The foil is necessary and a bad idea removing it.
That wrapping is there to protect things under the hood such as the PS pump and lines, brake lines battery and the engine itself from the excess heat.
That heat takes away improvement in performance that you spent money to gain.
Ran a high performance shop with Dyno, even small increase in ambient air temperature causes a decrease in HP and Trq, that's not a guess.
Ford would not spend the money or labor to wrap the pipe IF their engineering data did not show the same thing.
That intake will probably make the exhaust a little louder
Hey Nick, Put a Fuse Box Cover on them Fuses. Looks Great your work. I still want to buy the Truck. I am focused on buying it I already got a Spot fixed up for NicknFix. That would be her name if I get it. lol
Great video sir very informative. Thank you
What about the sensors that was on the side of the top of the air box? What does that do?
Breathing better is good! Love the look & sounds great!
You could of left the filter there and tried to close hood slowly to see if it would fit before you trimmed but that's what you gotta do when you mod cut and see if it works
So you went from a cold air box to a open hot filter?
Yes))))
i think i hear a miss in the motor when you get on it. have you had the motor diagnosed?
You need to replace the fuse box cover. It's missing.
Nick That senser is to be in the air flow tube
No doesn’t go into tube
👑
Great video Nick Brother
Did your egt temps go down ?
Should have gone with the Banks intake. Your still getting hot air from the engine compartment.
This is better for my pocket lol, I was thinking to make something custom
The bad about this is that now you are pulling hot air onto the engine. Hot air produces less power because it contains less oxygen due expansion from the heat. Less dense air, less HP.
Having ran a high performance shop with Dyno I can state for a fact, even a small increase in ambient air temperature causes a drop in HP and Trq.
So the 15- 20 HP you think you are adding doesn't happen.
Further warning for those who live/ drive in hot dry climate like the Desert Southwest, don't use oil wetted cotton filters.
Without the oil they do a bad job filtering out dust, dirt.
The " oil" used are water soluble, so you can clean the media, however it evaporates quickly thus leaving you with not much filtering.
Pull out the filter and look down the intake tube, turbo and see how much dirt is there.
Dry nano fiber technology filters are far better, they flow as well and filter better.
Your engine will thank you by not dying an early death.
Cut the box and leave the battery mount location piece. Only thing you need.
It’s all good
Love Rifraff now truck will breath yah !
Hot air?)))
@@sergeybritan You really think it "HOT AIR" compared to the temp the turbo is operating at? besides air is circulating under the hood, just like the original box was drawing from.
At 70mph you will find 20 deg raise in intake air temp over a cold air intake, air density decreases with temp resulting in less oxygen for the engine to burn. Nick if you hadn't done this mod I never would have researched the physics of the mod. I love how your not afraid to try something new and teach us, good job.
Thank you appreciate it
So are you saying that 20 deg increase cancels out the benefits?
Several people say that their egt's went down.
Truck mods looking great and should make it more reliable and perform better. Should give you extra mpg too... We shall see... 😉
Did the filter mod help the fuel mileage any?
Low power mod.
What did you do with the air filter flow indicator gauge?
That is a gauge to determine filter life on the stock unit. No need when you swap intakes
Sounds cool
How has the modified intake casing mated with the aftermarket intake?
Slips in and clamp
Great video! Tell us what those sensors are when you get a chance.
Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAC). Measures the intake air temperature. LOL.
What were the before and after MPG results?
Sadly I didn’t do it with stock intake dummy!! Lol
@@FixItNick +
@@FixItNickdid your egt go down ?
Where is the air filter sensor now??
Ziptied behind filter on a bracket
If you don't need to have a conversation with anyone in the truck while you are headed down the road, the 6637 is for you! Or you don't like to hear your radio...
Where’s your battery hold down?
Good question, never had them
@@FixItNick Weight reduction. I took both of mine off.
This is VERY HOT intake))))
It is the Eskimo's or Russian's dream.
Yes lol
Hi Nick! I live in Russia. I have such Ford. Thanks for your videos.
Glad it worked out for you. I just noticed you sound like Manny from the movie "Ice Age", LOL.
The top of the battery cover keeps the cool air coming in from the grill routed to the air filter. You may put that back on top of the battery to push cool air to the new filter. PS what was the increase in MPG, I missed that part I guess. Thanks for sharing Nick. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
That’s funny lol
👍
You say No to that senser in the air flow, being in the tube. Then why would was it in the filter box. It's a mass air senser. Reading the air next the the filter isn't helping anything.
That sensor is just there to measure the air temperature by the filter, it doesn’t need to be inside the intake pipe it’s not a MAF sensor
All that’s going to do it suck in all the engine bay heat that’s why the S&B and others are still Incase’s in a box like the stock filter.
If it was aluminum box I can see it helping, plastic not do much
Doesn't aluminium conduct heat more than plastic? That would mean once the aluminum heats up it would make for higher temps that plastic. Must be why most reputable companies use plastic.
@@cencoast_7.340it cools faster as well.
Never heard of RiffRaff
Nick buy a Mustang v8 2001
Where exactly was the "MPG testing" part of this vid? kinnda clickbait
Sorry it’s here, took me like 2 weeks to make this vid lol. ua-cam.com/video/jWhAVocwx3w/v-deo.html
Gonna sound like an ass but...
Nothin like a warm engineBay intake
...video ha unless your getting outside air it’s not a cold intake...
I was thinking about making an aluminum custom box for fun
That would be badass. I would ant a hood scoop but I don’t really want a hole in the hood
