Wild fan and I was rooting for Ovi and Oshie. That interview at the end with Oshie is a tough one. Good stuff I still come back to every once in a while.
I was going to games at least once a week that year, and I can truly say, the seven goals he had in the playoffs, were not just incredible but he took his game to another level. It was such a shame he was so unproductive the following year, I really was pulling for him, and I hope he once again reclaims that magic with another chance in the NHL for him.
I'm most definitely not a Caps fan, however it was nice to see Ovechkin finally get rewarded for his hard work and lift the cup. A lot of great players never get the chance.
they don't blame him for his production, they always talk shit because he "doesn't backcheck" but if they understood what hitting does to you in terms of your energy they would shut their fat asses up for awhile. Half those cucks that talk smack run out of breathe just typing on their keyboards.
Jack Cough truest shit I ever heard throwing a hit is something that is not a planned idea because if you go looking you put your team down a man if you miss
@@tropickman I'd argue that they were missing secondary scoring more than a running mate for Ovie; they finally had scoring from the bottom-2 lines - DSP, Connolly, Eller, Stephenson. They'd never had that before.
I went to a hockey camp in 2007 at UND, Oshie was the puck handling coach. When he made his speech for the kids and his family, hit close to home. He always said "play for someone you love like they are watching you."
I’m not a caps fan, I’m a leafs fan but I found this vid in my recommended and damn it’s great to see the history since ovi of the caps playoff runs and how they eventually won the cup. It really is amazing.
We literally had every piece in place since like 2014 (specifically that year), and only had CRUSHING losses. After disappointing playoffs. And the talk of "oh, Ovi's window is closing". It was amazing and they partied harder than anyone ever and deserved every moment. The incredible shift from just a hockey team, to every single line playing for everyone else was incredible to see. For the first time in my life, I wasn't stressed about the playoffs. Except that game 7. Because before that, you could hand the Caps a W, and they would find a way to immediately lose it.
@@CurryLeeV Similarly here, long time Caps fan with all the heartbreaks, but in 2018 I just felt there was no team capable of beating us four times in 7 because of the team D and the way Trotz was able to roll 4 heavy lines. Even the goals the opponent scored seemed like the types the Caps will not get even one more in a season, it just felt relaxing to watch (to me even the Tampa series)..
Dude every time I see Eller skating out from the net after that goal with the "come on boys I got it in the neeeeet! Gimme the LOVE!" hands I get hella excited. What a goal what a celly and boy what a great time to be a CAPS fan
I was one of the people the believed the Ovi wasn't gonna win, just gonna be one of those guys that cared more about scoring more than winning. I kept thinking he'd get tired of being Washington and constantly losing. I can't explain how amazed I was too see him get better and better and work with that team to get the final. As cool as it would've been too see Vegas win in its first year. Seeing Ovi lose his mind when they won and too see his emotion when he finally lifted the cup was one of the coolest moments in NHL history. What an incredible player, totally deserved it

I love this team with my whole heart. Yea some of them aren’t here with us this year. But I love this team with everything I have and I’m so proud of them for making it that far. And to win it all. It’s an amazing feeling and I hope we can do it again soon!
Anyone else cry happy tears when Ovi finally hoisted the cup? Damn.. I was screaming my head off with all of my brothers who have also been watching him for many years❤️
This was so well done. Native Washingtonian here, and I remember how crushed I was for Ovi and the team on all those playoff runs *especially* the years they won the President’s Trophy. My favorite moment (not captured here) was when Ovi passed the cup to Backy. “Where the heart and the brain meet” I wrote when I posted the pic. As joyful as I was for the Great 8, I was equally happy for #19.
Finally a highlight vid with hits. I have been looking for vids of those hits vs Tampa games 6 and 7. The caps physicality this playoff series was a big reason why they won.
I totally agree. The WHOLE playoffs, not just TB, but you're right. They laid the wood on Tampa. My favorite hit this playoff season, however, was Oshie's reverse hit that sprung Backs to Kempny to make it 5-2 in Game 4. That was beautiful.
Christoffer Salomonsson, the thing is they won with Wilson out, Backstrom out and Kuznetzov out. But yea they were so physical, Wilson, Ovie, Pelley, Oshie, Orlov and Orpik were phenomenal all playoffs long.
As a caps fan it would hurt me to see every time they would lose and it would be the same every year I couldn’t take it, I cried after Stepan’s goal I cried after bonino’s goal, I cried after the 2-0 game 7, but the cup run was the some of the greatest moments I’ve ever had with my dad and we celebrated hard after they won the cup

I've been an Oshie fan since he played at UND, he was my absolute favorite player. I was roughly between 6-9 years old watching him. I even got to talk to him once at this skills challenge in Grand Forks, he signed my Sioux jersey, and I believe a stick. Watching him throughout the years has been amazing. I cried watching him lift that cup and that interview.
Wouldn't trade being a caps fan for anything in the world. I grew up watching Ovie and the heartache that inevitably came each year during playoffs. But it was really Kuznetsov. That was that help that Ovechkin needed all along. Kuznetsov was just clutch!

It was always annoying how people blamed Ovi. He was damn near a point per game in the playoffs.
im not blaming, but thats because he was trying to do too much himself, one of the reasons they did well in 2018.
