Years ago.... maybe 20 years now, a lot of fast food places used to sell salads in shaker cups. You would just add the dressing and toppings, then close it and shake. They were smaller portions than your salad, but I found it the best way to eat a salad on the go. I would invest in a large container with a secure lid for salad shaking.

I'm exactly where you are, I've just started my first year of university as a baby 18-year-old. I've been really struggling with feeling homesick but I just feel so lucky that I have such strong friends from back home, we always know how to cheer each other up even though we're apart. The workload is so much more intense than it was in college but hopefully I'll get used to that. Stay Strong and Love from the UK.
Living alone is actually really hard, especially for me, I was alone in hostel on July 2020, few days later I became really depressed (I already had depression but before I moved into campus I was actually stable). Then I actually attempted suicide. My mother called but found out I didn't pick up so she went and checked up on me. Luckily I survived and now my mother would NOT let me live alone lol.
I love lectures with the side chat. I feel like I’m actually in class with them and it makes my classmates and professor happy when we all interact with each other through it. Glad you have a class with that too.
Jasmine, I totally understand your feelings. I moved in earlier than everyone else last year when I was a freshman bc of the job I got on campus and I needed to attend training. I cannot begin to tell you how overwhelming the feeling of loneliness was when I was in the room all by myself. I can’t imagine it during a pandemic. I validate your feelings and empathize with you. Hopefully next year things can be back to normal and I’m excited to get the opportunity to run into you and chat :) Well wishes and best of luck on your first year. Go Bruins! 💙💛
Best advice: Take two forks or an extra utensil and toss it that way. That way you can get under as well and thoroughly mix everything. Good luck with your new journey! Best wishes all the way from Maryland!
hiii - this is coming from someone who spent the entire quarantine alone in student halls, and is now also living alone in a flat in a town where i don't know anyone.. i know it's incredibly hard, and your mental health will face lots of ups and downs but it's going to be okay! give yourself all the time you need, it is by no means an easy time to be going through major life events ❤️
aw I hope your cutting yourself a lot of slack and taking care. I remember being in college and being not a very social person by nature and it can feel super isolating especially in the beginning and that on top of what is going on has got to be a lot. I'm sure things will get better as you move forward but still its important to take care now
I may have only just started middle school, but I know all about homesickness. I am a girl scout, so I love camping. One year I was out camping with some girls from other troops for a week (It was a summer camp) and we would daily mail. One of my bunk mates would mail on the daily, and that really made me miss home. I missed my dog, my siblings, and my parents so much. I did this one in 2018, I did another one last year with a friend from myn troop and I was not as homesick. Talking to as many people as possible is a great idea, but it will definitely be harder this year. Good luck getting through your first year of college!
that one part during the zoom call really made me sad. and our lecturers (some may be asses) but i believe that they really do not deserve to encounter such things, they do put in effort. my teacher today was so proud of his slides cuz he spent so much time making them look nice so we won’t get bored and it j hurts to imagine if something like this happened in the middle and kinda ruin his efforts to making the class more enjoyable.
that ending was so beautiful and cinematic, I loved it! I'm sorry you've had a rough start to the school year but I really appreciate how honest you were in this video, I makes me (and I'm sure many others) feel a lot less alone. 💕
It's alright to feel homesick, call your parents and your friends when you are feeling down. Interacting in lectures really helps a lot too because u feel better after talking to people. Stay safe and stay healthy!!
it will get better, Jasmine! Typically, first-year move-in is so hectic and busy you don't even have time to think about missing home. Right now is such an incredibly hard time to be an incoming freshman and you're doing great!!! PLEASE don't get down on yourself!
hey jasmine! i went through middle school (and now first year of high school hehe) watching your videos and they have helped me so so much! i hope you feel better as the school year carries on good luck in college, you got this!!

The zoom bombing Is very common.. It happns for like every physics class.. And the teacher gets really sad at this kind of behaviour BTW,next yr I'll be going to college so this video is like trailer of what I'm gonna go through next year..like u know doing everything on ur own and not having ur parents or siblings around.. It's gonna be pretty lonely🙁..thanks for this video.. It was very realistic and smthng every college student can relate to
Wow...you're so adorable. Idk this vlog is just is amazing to watch...you're honest. I appreciate your honesty 🙈🌺 I mean like you didn't try to hide your struggles...you're an inspiration to us all. I hope you get better
I’m pretty late to the game here, but I was also a college freshman this past year and it was one of the most challenging times in my experience. My first week of college was pretty similar to this honestly, moving in to a room by myself and then spending most of my time alone was super hard and I definitely relate to that struggle of staying safe while interacting with others. Honestly, even without a pandemic I think that college can be really hard, so just know that while it may seem all sunshine and rainbows at college, there are times when it is genuinely very difficult, but you are never alone.
So courageous to hold tight to your dream of many years to attend this very fine university when so much isolation must be endured. This reminds me so much of my first year away at college (many years ago). I felt tears from those memories and knowing how much of an adjustment you are making. I admire your handling the first week and I feel inspired! Thanks for sharing this real viewpoint. 🌸☀️🌸
I live in England so I’m back to school physically and it’s the DUMBEST thing ever as ur not even allowed to meet up with people outside ur household but are expected to be in contact with 100 people 5 days a week
Haiii love this vid so much! Im literally watching it twice because the editing style is amazing. Also thank you for being so real in speaking on the subject of college, it is hard sometimes :) good luck luv u
You’re amazing Jasmine! I was on my college campus as a first-year for all of two weeks before we were sent home. But I felt the exact same way you did during that time! You’re so strong and just know we’re not only your followers but your friends!💗
starting as a baby bruin myself, I thought i was prepared for the quarter system. i am very quickly learning that i am, in fact, nowhere NEAR prepared for the quarter system lmfaoo. it's a whole new experience, but I'm so excited to get to see your journey through this as well. you got this !!!!
Hey Jasmine! Hope you're feeling better. I totalllz understand your homesickness and i can relate so much. I studied abroad from February to July and i felt homesick a lot of the time and covid 19 only amplified it. So be proud of yourself, you're doing great und don't be disappointed because you're 'not productive'. Nobody's productive a hundred percent of the time, anyways. What matters is you're not giving up! Wishing you the best this semester, go Bruins!
My high school didn't even require pre-calc. I took one semester of it as a senior then dropped it to focus on my AP classes. It's not something I ever needed in undergrad or grad school for my field so 🤷 I did take an extra quarter of math in undergrad just in case I ever wanted to take a course that had more math as a pre-req but that actually never came up.
Good luck on your break, it’s really hard going to college away from home and not knowing anyone I can’t imagine how hard it is for you in quarantine as well, I hope you are able to make friends in your dorm and be able to get more comfortable in the college life.
Thank you for being so honest and open about how you’ve been feeling! I’m a college freshman too and I too have struggled immensely with feelings of loneliness and sadness, and then feeling guilty/dumb for feeling sad. It is really nice to know that I am not alone in this. I hope the semester gets better for you, you got this ❤️
I'm proud of you!! I'm a senior in college right now and I'm living alone too!! My roommate for all of college stayed home this semester because of COVID ): I feel weirdly alone sometimes too. I can't imagine being new to a place/learning experience. Thank you for sharing your feelings
love this! take all the time you need to adjust! your mental health is so important, and college is a rough transition, so it's important to take time for yourself! love you
i don't mean to pry, and maybe you've explained this in another video, but if all your classes are online why did you decide to move to campus? nevertheless i do hope that things improve for you and that you're able to flourish and succeed at UCLA in the long run
I don't know the dimensions of your sink, but I've seen one of those lifehack vids where they use a clean dustpan to funnel the water in to a bucket. Maybe that works too? I've also seen a bunch of people here suggest the shower which is also a good idea. As for the salad XD, I tend to not mix/shake the salad but just put the dressing on the salad in one spot and dip my salad-poked-by-fork in it. That way I can just eat the salad without having to fuss with shaking it. It's less well-mixed but still tasty ^^. If you do really want to shake it, I'd suggest getting a big enough container and transfer the salad+dressing in there so it has enough room to move around when shaken (not stirred ;)). I think you're doing good Jasmine :). It's totally normal to feel homesick so taking some time off to adjust and take good care of yourself is the best thing you can do :). I am proud of you and I know you can do this! (also hugs to you, your classmates and your college professor, that zoom bomb sounds horrible).
definitely take a break Jasmine 🥺 I can tell that the first week was rough, and homesickness is no joke. we all need time to adjust to new situations as well! so take as much time as you need, we'll be here when you get back 💛💛💛
So glad you decided to take some time off YT.. moving to college is a majorly stressful change in of itself, without the pandemic added on top. You shouldn’t be expected to conduct business as usual, with classes and YT on top, take care of yourself first :)

The way you found actions to do, like running and talking to friends as a response to how you were feeling inspired me..
I never thought about that, I might have to think about that next time I eat a salad 😂 Also I’m in Maryland too, so that’s pretty neat!
hiii - this is coming from someone who spent the entire quarantine alone in student halls, and is now also living alone in a flat in a town where i don't know anyone.. i know it's incredibly hard, and your mental health will face lots of ups and downs but it's going to be okay! give yourself all the time you need, it is by no means an easy time to be going through major life events ❤️
Why not put the water under the shower faucet? 🤔
@@berrydukes oh yeah! I forgot some dorms have shared showers 🤣 it would definitely be weird
that's kinda genius, i might try that since i have an individual shower :')
@@SDM17RG 😂😂 “oh hey are you about to take a shower? Lemme just get my jug”
@@SDM17RG i had shared showers with like 20 others kids in college and we all used the showers to fill up our britas haha
I likee how u always think about eco friendly and sustainable methods ✨
aw I hope your cutting yourself a lot of slack and taking care.
PLEASE don't get down on yourself!
hey jasmine! i went through middle school (and now first year of high school hehe) watching your videos and they have helped me so so much! i hope you feel better as the school year carries on
good luck in college, you got this!!
graduated this past spring and this video made me feel all types of feelings. the brita part was very real - i had to do the exact same thing my first year except our water fountain was in the middle of our hall for some reason lmao. my heart goes out to you jasmine. i wish you could have a normal freshmen experience, but i know you’re going to rock it either way 💖
The zoom bombing Is very common.. It happns for like every physics class.. And the teacher gets really sad at this kind of behaviour
BTW,next yr I'll be going to college so this video is like trailer of what I'm gonna go through next year..like u know doing everything on ur own and not having ur parents or siblings around..
Don't worry about not being able to mix salad
I also can't do that
I’m pretty late to the game here, but I was also a college freshman this past year and it was one of the most challenging times in my experience.
"high school did not prepare me for this" in the thumbnail... oh yes
imagine showing this video to someone from 2019 without context
Thank you for being so honest about uni experience. Love this video. I related to so much about it
Bro, where’d u get the greenhouse thing? Seems rly cool!! One more thing, the acceptance rate of UCLA is 14%!!!! GJ GIRLLLL
You got this, take all the time you need. Mental health is extremely important and given the times we are in now, even more so!
I live in England so I’m back to school physically and it’s the DUMBEST thing ever as ur not even allowed to meet up with people outside ur household but are expected to be in contact with 100 people 5 days a week
1:24
Finally, a studytuber that uses the vhs effect for flashbacks instead of aesthetics
omg FILLING THE FILTER STRUGGLE!! I HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN I WAS LIVING IN THE DORMS AND IT WAS FRUSTRATING
Haiii love this vid so much! Im literally watching it twice because the editing style is amazing. Also thank you for being so real in speaking on the subject of college, it is hard sometimes :) good luck luv u
8:55 good to know people still act like children in Uni. Makes me feel less worried
This is so aesthetic ♥️
I've been feeling really similar to what you describe in your videos and really appreciate the raw honesty :,) makes me feel less alone
studyquill: took a calculous class her junior year of highschool
me (who was still in an algebra class her senior year): 😳
no worries, everyone's school system & academic journey moves at a different pace :) lots of people here at UCLA haven't taken calc yet either!
My high school didn't even require pre-calc. I took one semester of it as a senior then dropped it to focus on my AP classes. It's not something I ever needed in undergrad or grad school for my field so 🤷
I did take an extra quarter of math in undergrad just in case I ever wanted to take a course that had more math as a pre-req but that actually never came up.
Her voice is so calming i think she disereves more subscribers
if you don't mind me asking, what are you majoring in? 🖤
I hope the semester gets better for you, you got this ❤️
your voice is super calming. thank you for sharing your first week during this crazy time!
I’m so curious how the mini greenhouse turned out!
I'm proud of you!! I'm a senior in college right now and I'm living alone too!! My roommate for all of college stayed home this semester because of COVID ): I feel weirdly alone sometimes too. I can't imagine being new to a place/learning experience. Thank you for sharing your feelings
Stay safe y’all 💕
Edit: how has it been 7 months
love this! take all the time you need to adjust! your mental health is so important, and college is a rough transition, so it's important to take time for yourself! love you
i don't mean to pry, and maybe you've explained this in another video, but if all your classes are online why did you decide to move to campus? nevertheless i do hope that things improve for you and that you're able to flourish and succeed at UCLA in the long run
some schools require that freshman live on campus
Jasmine's vids always motivates me. idk why but watching her vids works better than deadlines lol
Jasmine's uploads make me feel so productive
About your water: is there a way to attach some sort of hose where the water comes out? (I have no vocabulary regarding toilets.)
definitely take a break Jasmine 🥺 I can tell that the first week was rough, and homesickness is no joke. we all need time to adjust to new situations as well! so take as much time as you need, we'll be here when you get back 💛💛💛
yeah for sure, thank you for the encouragement. i'll be back when i'm ready
honestly "I'm not sad, so that's a win" is so powerful
Thank you so much for even producing this video with how tough it’s been, wishing you all the best ☺️
So glad you decided to take some time off YT.. moving to college is a majorly stressful change in of itself, without the pandemic added on top. You shouldn’t be expected to conduct business as usual, with classes and YT on top, take care of yourself first :)
I've literally been watching your channel grow ever since my freshman year, I was able to actually function in the school system because your videos helped me so much! Now I graduated and I'm moving onto college next semester : 0
Ok but only jazzy can make filling up a jug with water entertaining with that *jazz hands* music hehe
This video is so satisfying the way you’re so organized❤️
How do you think it would be with 2 more people in that room?
It’s super cute 😌
I think 1 other person would be better since 2 more people would be over crowded.
Congrats for ucla!!🥳🥳 Love your videos so much💕 you inspire me for my channel!! have an amazing day to anyone who sees this🥰
The food actually looks good, the food on my school isn’t healthy of good
I loved this video! I usually am so distracted with youtube, looking at my phone while watching videos, I just sat and watched this which was a lovely way to end my day-hope you aren't as home sick soon! I'm second year at uni, it does get better!
You should host a show and tell night with other people from UCLA who also love stationary 🥳
It's ok to take a break Jasmine, we all still love you and we appreciate the effort u put into making these videos and helping everyone out. Hope you're feeling better soon!
