What I regret about high school is always study all the time and sacrificed by extracurriculars for the sake of perfect grades. In all my high school memories, I can only remember study and only like 1% of the time I had fun with my friends. since your high school years are over. can you do an essential supplies for high school and like talk about what you use them for and some recommendations?
i relate to this so much, I did way too much procrastinated, and had no time for friends. What ended up really saving me was "active procrastination", so instead of saying "i cant hang out I have an essay", I would plan the time in to hang out, knowing that I would have procrastinated the essay anyways. Having everything timed out in blocks saved me since I was geniunly in 2 clubs, 3 sports, and 5 AP/HP classes sophtmore year, and changing it for junior year made life so much more fun.
Same! I don't regret applying to any of the universities I was rejected from because, if I had chickened out and not applied to the schools, I would not be attending my dream school in (hopefully) the fall. However, I was definitely very scared and I applied to way to many mid-tier and "safety" schools for no reason. I didn't spend that much money on it but sometimes I recognize that I would've never gone to these schools, and I don't actually know why I applied. It's important to HAVE safeties and matches, but have 7 total in that category was really necessary (for me). Maybe looking back I just underestimated myself but, honestly yea. Also I definitely agree that I caved in fear of challenges, though. In terms of academics I've always taken the most challenging course load without fail, but I wish I'd tried to apply to internships and other opportunities.
hmm my regrets in highschool.. I was severely depressed for a lot of my childhood, and while I wish I wasnt, I refuse to call that a regret because it isn't my fault. I work myself to death and then some, im going into gr12 this fall, and its weird because I don't regret it? At least not yet. I have a 94 average this year, and I worked very hard to achieve that. The burnout was exhausting but I'd do it again because I'm proud of what I achieved and I know my family was proud of me. I realize it's unhealthy and it is something I'm trying to work on, but it's hard to want to change because whenever I don't reach the goals I set for myself, the self hatred is just so intense. I truly wind up loathing myself, for weeks. I'd rather experience burnout. I wished I had gotten the stick out of my ass sooner. I believed that because I was smart, I was above everyone. Newsflash: you're not. Smart is not a personality trait and if you try to make it one, it will not be a good one. I wished I had been pushed in a creative direction sooner. MUCH sooner. other than that.. I don't regret much? But honestly I had no real options. My school doesn't have clubs. We don't have anything except sports and I hate sports. I don't fit in with my class very well, so I don't have many friends. We don't go to parties and do things like that, we just hang out and relax, or do our creative work and ignore each other. That's what makes us happy.
"start [researching colleges] second semester junior year" me: is in second semester of junior year but has not started and was gonna put it off until june before senior year :'))
About the first regret you mentioned (not taking enough breaks/being too focused on the future), I totally share that and I know a lot of other high-achieving recent high school grads who do too. But I just want to mention -- it's not completely our faults! I had a 2-hr conversation with my dad today about how rigged high school and college admissions are against you. They force you to run on a never-ending hamster wheel, and taking a break of even one day a week is impossible because you lose your momentum, end up not getting hw done or not studying as much as you should've, and giving yourself more work in the future. As someone with average intelligence but high ambitions, I had to work myself practically to death in high school to get straight As and be a good leader/member of several clubs, and even then I was really disappointed with my college application results. High schools, colleges, and college board all convince us that our hard work will pay off, but in the end, there are a bunch of other factors that are more important than grades in college admissions, and college board and colleges get millions (if not billions?) out of us every year.
imagine being sponsored by college board themselves. I WISH!!! anyway, thank you for this video, i’m a rising junior in high school and i actually already started a little college searching. i definitely need to take more breaks and hang out with friends. :)
Overcommitting always has been a problem of mine. Even right now with half-lockdown, I really enjoyed the first copule weeks of slower living and then couldn't resist getting involved in way too many projects. Until I burn out, though, I really enjoy this kind of life and when I do feel drain I sora know how to handle that, so it lasts very short
I don't have to worry about not having enough time to research... I'm 12 and I already know which college, what Major, what minors, and literally everything you can think of. 😅
My biggest regret, which applies throughout my entire time in school, was letting my ADD control me. It hurts know how many opportunities have been lost because of how irresponsible I was.
My regrets (well I have a long list but obviously you guys aren't my therapist so I'll just state few): I was too good of a student that I never had fun in high school and I regret this so much. My second regret is the same as Jasmine's, not doing enough research about colleges and careers and now I am stuck with a major I really don't want to work in/on. Have a great day all of you!
I love how she included things she didn't regret as well because it was helpful for me in a way. This video really opened my eyes and I'm glad I'm still in high school so I can change how I'm going about it
I’m currently a freshman and every senior I know who has posted what college they’ve gotten into is a well-known, top-tier (as in Harvard, Stanford, NYU, etc) college or it’s in another country. Palo Alto education/rich kids really went 😔✌️
I was so depressed during High School. I went to the most competitive school in my area, almost everyone around me had all B's and A's. I could've been one of those people, and it bugs me so much that I could've had a report card of only B's if I just wasn't depressed. I don't know if it's a thing in the US, but in Norway, it's possible to retake exams as adults to improve your grades, I plan on doing that.
Just watching this to make sure I don’t regret shit when school starts. I’m in my senior year now, grade 11. I’m kinda shocked tho but okay woof I’m a sEniOR now
thank you for the video! it help me realized i was starting to burn out with the amount of study per day i have for university. definitely going to take more breaks to relax my brain as you said.
When I was in junior high, I was into studying and studying and studying, you get the idea. But I realized that it was good. I had a foundation. I never spent much time with friends, I was always left out. So I unconsciously realized that I cannot be friends with people from that school. We were just so different, in terms of status, social activities, responsibilities, everything. Now I'm confused.
I love how pure and honest you were.Tbh deep down a lot of regrets happen because of self esteem issues/insecurities, even if it isn't so obvious. One tip i have for people who are going to high school is to have fun and take care of your mental health. Because in the end mental health is everything, if your not happy then problems will arise. A lot of regrets happen because of self esteem issues/insecurities/mental health so take care of yourself, and realize the things that you need to realize. It can be hard to know what these things are to realize and even I myself cannot really explain it, but to people who have suffered with mental health issues such as severe depression and severe adhd, it is easier to realize these sorts of things. It is better to learn these things at a younger age because you eventually will in life. A lot of people probably wont understand this but I hope it helped.
Tip 5 and Tip 1 are the only things you need to take out of this. As someone who was average in high school and now doing a PhD in Computer Science, high school was never an impact in my life.
i regret not continuing going to school even when i was out of work. now at 27, i'm continuing school and trying to get a decent career that won't affect my physical health. i was in a good career recently, but then I got sick and I can no longer do the work. now i have to go back to square one to find something else more decent.
2 year of High school left. And tbh this quarantine got me thinking I need to add some fun because the only thing I've cared for 1 and half year is studies because I messed up one subject in my first freshmen year semester, like I know I scored bad but it was first time but I beated my self up for so long. I realise these years will never come back. Attending parties and hanging out with friends more will not drag my grade down.
As a senior, there are still many scholarships open right now! I would recommend (not just to seniors) to apply to scholarships that are from local organizations rather than big scholarships (like Coca Cola and Pepsi and McDonald’s etc.) Although you can apply to big scholarships, there a lot more competitive with a larger applicant pool. Local scholarships/those under 5000, although smaller amounts of money, have a smaller applicant pool and you can get awards easier. If you recycle you essays and apply to many, you can earn so much money. Remember every dollar counts! Good luck to all the classes after 2020 :)
when i was in high school all i cared about was graduating. i didnt care about going to college all that much, so i focused more in passing my classes acceptably rather than standing out, but at the same time i had little to no social life at all. i did get in a school i was interested in and in a major i like, which means the past three years ive spent stressing about every single aspect of my life were for no reason at all.
Love your approach to high school advice videos. It’s actually helpful without pressuring or stressing out the audience. I like how you “encourage, or would like to” instead of stuff like “YOU NEED TO DO THIS. I WISH I DID THIS. THINGS TO NEVER DO EVER.” 😅 thank you for your advice! Been here since the Hermione days🥳
ahhhh im going into 12th grade and seriously only started HEAVY thinking abt uni this summer. because everyone around me was always like 'you have time, you dont have to think abt it yet' GUESS WHAT TIME IS LINEAR
i’m in my sophomore year of college now and i still think about how much i hated high school. it was just so...dumb to me. i wish i had taken more ap classes, i walked into college with 18 credit hours, but with 2 majors and a minor, more would have been helpful. i also wish i had done more college research, even though i do like my current school. consider things like the town/area!! i love my school cause it’s small and liberal arts based but the town it’s in is Not It
I just graduated from high school and one of my biggest regrets was not joining a club because my friends weren’t interested in the same club. I eventually ended up joining it in my junior year without my friends, but I ended up meeting people who had the same interests so it was worth it. Another thing is if you find something remotely interesting, go for it. I found volleyball 0.000001% interesting in elementary and high school, but I never joined because it hurt my arms (something I should’ve expected lol). I recently played a game with my friend who got into volleyball and I found the sport to be really enjoyable. For anyone starting/continuing high school, concentrate on your studies, have fun, and live in the moment!
One more thing! Practice is really important with anything. If you expect to be good at something the first or second time you do it, you’ve misunderstood it (I learned the hard way). I was used to understanding everything on the fly in elementary to sophomore year that I did not develop the right habits. So if you want to be good at something, commit to it.
I REGRET TRYING SO MUCH FOR GRADES THAT I SOMETIMES NEGLECT IMPORTANT DATES AND EVEN MY OWN BIRTHDAY. MOST OF IT DIDNT MATTER AT THIS POINT. AND YEARS AFTER THAT I DIDNT REMEMBER THAT I GOT AN A ON THIS PAPER OR THAT BUT I FELT MOST ALIVE WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT I ENJOY SOMETHNG OR LITTLE TIMES INSIDE THE LIBRARY FOR LEISURE READINGS AND HAVING FUN. I SHOULVE ALSO PREPARED COLLEGE JUST FOR ME AND NO ONE ELSE. I ENJOYED HS. BUT BOY I REGRET THAT SO MUCH.
I just woke up and looking for some motivation then I saw this new video! I'm glad I watched this as I could also reflect on my mistakes in high school and hopefully, I could avoid and do better in college. Thank you Jasmine for this wonderful video💜
I’m glad I’m swedish because we don’t need to write essays to apply to college or university (högskolan/universitetet). We just apply and then go there for free.
Could you make a video on internships and making money? I'm a freshman in high school and I really want to know how to find the right internships and make money without sacrificing my grades or too much of my time.
I never really had a problem choosing my college because even before attending junior highschool I know where I wanted to study. What only change is my course. My only problem is that what would I do if I didn't get to the school I want but luckily I passed the entrance exams. For scholarship, my scholarship is an exam type that's why I didn't get to write an essay about it.
Me a seventh grader watching this: ... This changed my life lol *Update, now I am an upcoming freshman in high school, thank you for your tips. I was recommended into Honors Geometry for 9th grade, which is a 10th grade Honors course. I am studying most of the time and I almost never hang out with my friends. Thank to your advice, I finally decided to take regular sophomore geometry as a freshman instead of Honors, so I don't overwhelm myself too much besides the transition into high school. Thank you so much!
I’d love to hear about personal finance because rn I do save some of my allowance but it’s currently in a mason jar in my room and I am about to get a paid internship so I’d love to know how to properly manage my money🙂.

Having everything timed out in blocks saved me since I was geniunly in 2 clubs, 3 sports, and 5 AP/HP classes sophtmore year, and changing it for junior year made life so much more fun.
Your videos practically SAVED my academic life. Thank you, Jasmine, for making these content. I hope you stay well and healthy!

"start [researching colleges] second semester junior year"
me: is in second semester of junior year but has not started and was gonna put it off until june before senior year :'))
.... well we cant do it now because ap tests....so its just gonna have to wait :')
LITERALLY ME 💀
felt that...
i thought the perfect time to start researching colleges was before senior year, didnt know you had to do it even earlier
i absolutely love her new confidence and editing style!! also thOSE HAIR FLIPS, WHAT A QUEEN.
when u r living a pandemic its kinda hard to enjoy ur high school
My biggest regret, which applies throughout my entire time in school, was letting my ADD control me. It hurts know how many opportunities have been lost because of how irresponsible I was.
Her, and intellectual: *gets into UCLA and regrets high school experiences*
Me, a puny seventh grader who can’t spell “trigonometry”: *S N I F F*
ok but trigonometry is legitimately hard to spell LOL
I can’t even pronounce it.
dude, youve got time!! dont stress about it :D
That’s a word?
M yes it is something in math look it up ;)
My regrets (well I have a long list but obviously you guys aren't my therapist so I'll just state few):
I was too good of a student that I never had fun in high school and I regret this so much.
Palo Alto education/rich kids really went 😔✌️
wow really i live in San Jose 😭
I was so depressed during High School. I went to the most competitive school in my area, almost everyone around me had all B's and A's. I could've been one of those people, and it bugs me so much that I could've had a report card of only B's if I just wasn't depressed. I don't know if it's a thing in the US, but in Norway, it's possible to retake exams as adults to improve your grades, I plan on doing that.
Just watching this to make sure I don’t regret shit when school starts. I’m in my senior year now, grade 11. I’m kinda shocked tho but okay woof I’m a sEniOR now
madam quill, you are my inspiration and ily so much! have fun in college and adulthood!!
thank you for the video! it help me realized i was starting to burn out with the amount of study per day i have for university. definitely going to take more breaks to relax my brain as you said.
Quote on Quote : "Don't CHOKE on your aspirations , Jasmine." (Darth Vader Reference (ROGUE ONE) 2016)
What I read: "Don't choke on your asparagus, Jasmine." 😭
This is so good since I'm entering highschool this upcoming school year
Going into my first year of highschool in a few weeks! This was super helpful, thank youu!
Now I'm confused.
awww i’m a junior in ap lang right now and it’s my favoriteeee class
The editing, THE WHOLE VIBE YESSS
Life Hack: it‘s okay, you don‘t have to have everything figured out. ✌🏼
as an oncoming freshman - thank you! i will take this advice gratuitously
Tip 5 and Tip 1 are the only things you need to take out of this. As someone who was average in high school and now doing a PhD in Computer Science, high school was never an impact in my life.
aa i could listen to you speak forever - your voice is so soothing 😤
That skin tho, God u playing games ur choosing favourites ur playing games
her face really do be glowing everytime she moves her head
LOL it doesn't look as nice in person as on camera, that's for sure -- studio lights really help wash out all of the weird textures
i regret not continuing going to school even when i was out of work. now at 27, i'm continuing school and trying to get a decent career that won't affect my physical health. i was in a good career recently, but then I got sick and I can no longer do the work. now i have to go back to square one to find something else more decent.
My notifications are always so late but I’m glad I’m here 🥺🥺🥺
Thank you! I have 5 more years of high school and this is really helpful for someone who's pressuring herself. Thank youuuu💓
"also I can crush people at TypeRacer" MEE I LITERALLY JUST TO IT TO WIN
Hope you have a good college life! Love you 😘😘
thank you for watching! love your profile pic hehe
studyquill it’s so cute 😚🥰
when i was in high school all i cared about was graduating. i didnt care about going to college all that much, so i focused more in passing my classes acceptably rather than standing out, but at the same time i had little to no social life at all. i did get in a school i was interested in and in a major i like, which means the past three years ive spent stressing about every single aspect of my life were for no reason at all.
WOW college board is so cool its great that things like that organizations like that can have such an impact
Been here since the Hermione days🥳
ahhhh im going into 12th grade and seriously only started HEAVY thinking abt uni this summer.
because everyone around me was always like 'you have time, you dont have to think abt it yet'
GUESS WHAT TIME IS LINEAR
i’m in my sophomore year of college now and i still think about how much i hated high school. it was just so...dumb to me. i wish i had taken more ap classes, i walked into college with 18 credit hours, but with 2 majors and a minor, more would have been helpful. i also wish i had done more college research, even though i do like my current school. consider things like the town/area!! i love my school cause it’s small and liberal arts based but the town it’s in is Not It
I just graduated from high school and one of my biggest regrets was not joining a club because my friends weren’t interested in the same club.
So if you want to be good at something, commit to it.
do you think it's okay to join a team despite being bad at the sport? or will i set the team back or stress myself too much?
*Asian schools are hard as heck ;-;*
I cry everytime I fail something... *The teachers are scary as heck* :"D
Ikr 😭
Truth
Ikr 🙃. You don't know even get prom in some countries 😭 like mine
YOU'RE GLOWING!!!
i just have to say the audio is so clean i can't help but think that you dubbed the whole thing but you didn't???? amazing
The college admissions process seems so stressful in America.
Mostly only community college don't need these things sooo.. Guess im going there lol
Could you make a video on internships and making money? I'm a freshman in high school and I really want to know how to find the right internships and make money without sacrificing my grades or too much of my time.
this is super helpful and inspirational!!! i'll try to apply these tips for my last two years of high school. ^^
This changed my life lol
*Update, now I am an upcoming freshman in high school, thank you for your tips.
Thank you so much!
thank you, this was so useful!! im going into highschool this year as a freshmen soo..
how is jasmine so inspiring 💗
Falling asleep at 10:30 and waking up at 6:30 is such a mood. :) Like late to sleep, and early to rise is the best lol.
I love seeing your personality shine through in your recent videos!
i just love your vids,, you're like one of the few good channels who upload study vids during quarantine
I’d love to hear about personal finance because rn I do save some of my allowance but it’s currently in a mason jar in my room and I am about to get a paid internship so I’d love to know how to properly manage my money🙂.
ah cool, good job saving up! i'll prob put a video together then :)
I love that I'm watching this when I graduated hs this year
You could always enter the same co-curricular with your friends, it’s the best way to hang out and study/work at the same time ❤︎
I love how you're showing more and more personality in every new video because you're really funny
I'm starting high school next year. This really helped!
I think you would genuinely be an amazing teacher, like imagine how students' lives you could change
I love how relaxing all her video's are
I'm a senior graduating this year, but this video was really refreshing to watch. Thanks Jasmine :))
quarantine actually ruined my sleep routine 😂😂 before quarantine I actually sleep around 10-12 and wake up at 4:30 before my 5:00 alarm bc my school starts at 7:00, my school also is also in another city near mine ofc. Now my sleep routine is 12 wakes up around 9-10😂😂😂😂 such a boring comment 🤣🤣🤣sry
*having a nervous breakdown because I'm going to be a junior next year and actually have to think about different colleges*
Girl you are glowingggg you look so good
I am going into freshman year in high school and I’m also plain and loves long- distance running 🏃♀️
How did you create the texts that move?
(Can you also create an updated version of how you edit your videos?)
Cindy Yin Probably made a gif in procreate.
the channel The Bliss Bean has a video about editing that's pretty much the same as how i edit! might make an updated version sometime too
I don't really understand how 'American curriculum' as I live in Asia which has a different style for educational system. Although we are in different side of the globes, it's nice to have this videos to help you and get motivated in studying 😍
Make sure you hang out with friends during highschool before you turn into a depressed 20 year old ❤️
Jasmine your content has gotten better over these past few years and i'm so proud of how far you've come, keep up the great work! :')
I'm going into freshmen year next year, and you're helping me feel really prepared!
