Thanks for the post! Just a tip here, I found out using a very soft bristle paint brush (very soft don't be cheap!) - cleans the sensors/area very nice. I used one for years on detailing my computers and keyboard, music equipment, etc. and other electronics. Worked like a charm on my occasional sensor errors. Truly it's lifetime tool that has endless uses. Think of it as a detailing brush. In my opinion, horse hair brushes are the best. Hope this helps and may our kitties be blessed! 🦊
I honeetly couldn't agree more. I purchased 2 LR4s and both yave this issue. LR has a lot to learn. They shouldn't be making their products worse over time.
I had the SAME problem with it stopping mid cycle, light turning red. They told me they were sending out an update to fix the bug to all LR4 that are online. Unfortunately I also had another glitch where it was no longer connected to the Internet. I think I deleted it from the app and wanted to add it back, which it wouldn't let me do. They sent me a new base. It's been working great ever since. It is a great robot when it works properly but yes it has some bugs they are trying to work out. My advice: I just emailed them relentlessly and also posted on their social media relentlessly and they DID get back to me. Honestly, once customer service finally got back to me, they were excellent in fixing the problem. It IS awesome, WHEN it works.
Good video. For those trying to do the hard reset, the machine won't immediately cycle the colors it will first turn off. Wait a couple minutes and then turn back on and follow the rest of the steps. When this thing works it's a great machine
Thank you SO MUCH for this! Whisker should definitely sponsor you! I had watched all their videos and nothing fixed mine! I am about to go on a week long vacation and appreciate you more than you know! ❤

So I just came home to find my LR4 stuck cause my cat likes to watch her litter fall in the bin. Luckily my cat led me to the LR4 while crying for help so I saw what was wrong. I then stumbled upon your video. Yes my issue turned out to be some of her tiny strands of hair getting into the light sensors which made it think she was still there. I just put clear tape over those holes and the beam of light isn’t being hindered so time will tell if this prevents any future issues. Hopefully the makers of the litter robot are learning on how to improve the device for a 5th version from all the complaints they’ve gotten.

Bought mine in June 2023. It is now October 2024 and I have had zero issues. It has disconnected from my router a few times, but it is very easy to reconnect. I probably wouldn't have gotten another cat if it wasn't for the LR4.
OMG THANK YOUUUU!!! It’s almost 12am. I have to wake up in a few hours and this has been driving me crazy because all I want to do after work is SLEEP before work tomorrow 😭🎉🎉🎉💯💯💯 YOURE THE BEST!!
Thank you so much!! Step 2 worked for me. Hopefully it doesn’t do it again but if it doesn’t I’ll go thru all steps again. Crazy how we spend so much and it doesn’t work as it should. But fingers crossed 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
you are a life saver. i never was able to contact customer support due to my work schedule. my LR4 was trying to connect to the wifi (its been off the wifi for the past week why would it do that now) last night i emptied and refreshed litter it was working fine. but when i came home from work and looked at the robot it was full of waste which was weird so i cycled , kept stopping i even reset it. it then cycled but then stoped upside down… i tried trouble shooting and even considered trying to get a replacement tomorrow BUT YOUR VIDOE HELPED!!!!!! now to try and fix this wifi situation which is so ANNOYING.
Clean the three sensors with a Q-tip. If that doesn't work, power it off, unplug it, then use 90% rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip, wait 3-5 minutes to let the sensors dry, and then power it back on.
Our LR3 is great had it for years and no problems. We’ve had the 4 since last august and for the last 4 months it hasn’t worked at all. It finally got where it stays solid red and won’t do anything. We unplugged it and now it’s just a kitty box we have to scoop. Have contacted support so I hope they come thru otherwise it’s a waste of $700. We are three months before our warranty plays out so I hope since I notified them before that time we can still be able to use our warranty.😢 Just want it to work properly for the amount of money we invested. They should stand behind their product.
I just purchased the LR4 a couple weeks ago. I’m now having a motor fault issue and nothing has fixed it. Taken off the bonnet cleaned all sensors and also removed the motor cover to make nothing was crossed. Thanks for your insight!
It’s way better than LR3. People put to much litter in these things and they get stuck (or the blocked sensors). I haven’t had 1 issue in 6 months with the LR4. No smell, Love it! IT IS NOT PROBLEM PLAGUED IMO. Just problem users, lol.
They replaced my first robot 3 months after I bought it under warranty that was pretty much doing the exact same thing and it's been perfect ever since. The replacement they sent me had a different model number than the first.
Than you so much for this. I was having weight inaccuracies with my lR4 and I tried everything but cutting it off and cleaning the sensors. I was cleaning the sensors while it was on XD But now my app is working and hopefully it continues to work.
I've been using them for 6 months and have 3 now. I have had several issues similar to this but I never had the buttons stop working. I have had it stop in the same spot; the first time, it seemed the entry sensors calibration was off, so it kept tripping. Whisker did a remote calibration for me and fixed it. The second one was a different machine, and it was because it was slightly rocking as it was across two floorboards, and I fixed that by moving it. There's no way the settings cause an issue; you have a sensor calibration issue, which is what it looks like. Have you contacted Whisker about this?
I did reach out to them. Their solution was to send me a new unit and mail back the old one. However, the old one has been working since I reset it so I'm going to hang on to it. You are probably right though that it was a sensor calibration issue, assuming that a master reset would also restore those to factory settings. Either way, it's still chugging along for now! Thank you for the comment!
I have light colors flashing that are not noted anywhere online, nor in the manual. It stops running 20+ times a day and the app sends me messages every 30 minutes that the drawer is full, when it is, in fact, empty. Just now, all of the fresh litter was dumped into the waste drawer, I don't even know how that happened! I attempted to submit a ticket through the troubleshooter, but the highlighted button to create a ticket doesn't go anywhere. Nowhere. At all. I have never in my life been as frustrated with a machine as I am with the LR4. Whisker having the nerve to run ads during your video is hilarious! SERIOUSLY if anyone out there reading this is still considering buying one, do yourself a favor and just don't do it. Whisker failed big with this one. UPDATE: 24 hours after leaving this comment and sending an email I received an email response from a "social media specialist" who apologized for my issues and stated they would be sending me a new one. Fingers crossed!
I noticed my cat kept triggering it. I had to put it on hold via the Whisker App so it stops going red. I make sure to run the cycle two to three times a day. Sorry u had to do all that to reset it. All i had to do is unplug it or hit the reset button. I also didn’t read the instructions which caused issues. It works great and I’m happy with my purchase.
Mine only stops if my cats who are super curious go up and watch it cycle. I’ve had it for like 4 months and I’ve had zero issues. Maybe we’ve been lucky and I hope that’s not the only case but fingers crossed they have corrected all issues
It's been running well since I posted these videos up until the last few weeks. I'm starting to get "cat in drawer" errors now that stop the whole thing from working. I'm going to deep clean it and hope that that fixes it.
Yep same thing happened to me they sent me a new robot and it was working great until today it’s doing the same this it did before…. They need to push out the new software or fix the issue I will continue to make them replace it in till it work right! Great video by the way
This was really validating. We are having the EXACT issues you describe. We are at Step 3 but when we perform the “master reset” we don’t get the lights cycling as you describe. We hold the buttons (the one with the wifi symbol and the one with the “X” in the middle - we held them down together) but it just goes dark and doesn’t light back up or cycle lights at all. Any thoughts there? Thank youuu!
my LR3 completely stopped even turning on after a bit over a year and it drove me NUTS. i’ve been thinking about upgrading to the LR4 anyways so i thought what the heck ill order the new one i dont wanna deal with this headache anymore (i’ve fiddled with the crap box way too much and don’t feel like going through a tune up repair). i love how i’m already watching videos about what to do when the crap box 4 fails me😂😂😂😂the thing about the litter robots are that they are AMAZING when they work but an absolute MENACE to deal with when they fck up. WISH ME LUCK WITH MY NEW LR4 COMING IN 😢
I’m having an issue with the bonnet not staying securely closed. The sides stay secure but the top notch keeps popping off. I have cleaned every part of the litter robot just in case that was an issue. Any suggestions?
This is fantastic! Now please tell me how to keep the inside the robot from getting all gunky. I too use fresh step but man it just smears all on the inside what the hell
Your spice is very very good. I just tried resetting a globe. The lights are still crazy but it’s working and smoky will be very happy. If it doesn’t stop in mid cycle again where he can’t use it at all. Thank you so much for your help. I’m still trying to get in touch with the, LR people I’m not happy right now but for the moment my cat is😢
Make sure that the firmware is up to date on your LR4. They have released a lot of fixes since I made this video so if yours needs an update, it might help!
I kinda had this problem but it then went to a fault and totally stopped and I had to chat with customer support. They had me try additional fixes but none worked sooooo, they're sending a new motor that I need to install. This is gonna be "fun" because I'm a 77 yr old grandma. Luckily, I am also willing to try things...not happy about it though because now I am without the robot so I'm back to one of my other boxes which helped me to realize that, regardless of any problems, it's better than fiddling with another motorized POS. Wish me luck because I'm not convinced that the motor is the problem.
Any piece of technology has potential problems that require troubleshooting. I suspect some of these issues could probably be avoided if users read and follow the recommendations. This is a good troubleshooting video though.
Thanks for your informative video! Fix #2 seems to have worked for me. Now, if you have any advice to get a stubborn cat to actually use it…. I’m all ears.
After taking off the globe I noticed that one of the foam alignment pads between the globe and the unit was missing causing the other pads to also come off. This was causing the unit to get stuck. I'm quite disappointed in the engineering quality since this unit is less than a year old but at least it seems like an easy fix. I've filed a ticket for replacement pads. Just adding this on as another potential issue.
Hi. I also need to make a master reset on my LR4 by pressing the 2 buttons for 10 seconds (and even longer)... but nothing happened... no lights flashing. Instead, all the lights go off. On the app, there's a fonction to master reset it. Will that work? Thank you...
If and when you get a hold of customer service, and they help you fix it, it's awesome. I had to get a new base. Email the shit out of them, they finally got back to me.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos Absolutely, I don't disagree. BUT, I also, having been in sales and marketing... and having worked for new product sales launches, I understood that there'd likely be a few kinks they might need to work out. Low and behold they had a few, plus they were still getting a ton of orders. As an aside, Some products I will wait until they work out the kinks before I purchase it. But this, I needed a I have 5 cats. Any whoo... A little patience, a lot of emails, a couple comments on their social media, and I finally got someone's attention. and. Once I had her attention thru emails she totally fixed my problem quickly and with very little effort on my part. They sent me a brand new base, because I was not connected to the Internet, (which was actually my own fault, and only half my problem.) They had a fix they were trying to send through the Internet but I was no longer connected because I deleted my unit and tried to re-register it, which it wouldn't let me do. So she sent me a whole new base, with a new serial number. I set it up, registered the new base, the new serial # on the app and it's been working great ever since.
I had to get a base replacement for mine. We will see how it fairs tbh. But i don't understand how litter gets caught in the back of the base... I would assume the litter rolling inside the dome STAYS inside the dome but it alwasy finds some way to get out...
I love love my Litter Robot 4!! Had it since early January, NO issues!! I strongly tell people to get one. You every notice that the only time someone writes something it is always to complain. People who love it do not need to write complains...
That's simply not true. Go back and watch my first video on the LR4. I wanted nothing more than to love it. Unfortunately when 4 of them don't work (or arrive broken) it's tough to write a love letter to them.
We are having the same issue with our LR4. It constantly freezes during a cycle with a "Cat Sensor Fault" error. It's not reliable enough to leave alone with our kitties. Customer service is overwhelmed. I can't believe they let this product go to market without the proper QA processes in place. I'm one pissed off customer!
I have similar issues but not quite as bad as yours eventually mine did move back to the home position. But sometimes it will get stuck mid cycle like you. Very annoying to have to manually intervene all the time. Today they sent me a new base unit with all the sensors.....I'm going to replace that and see if it makes a difference. Funny enough for the last week it has been much better, not really sure why. I did have to readd the unit to the app because I think they pushed out some new firmware. Its disappointing that its had so many issues. Perhaps they released this when it was not ready for primetime. I also purchased their warranty so if it never gets to the point where it needs to be I can get a refund I believe or at worst get a whole new unit when they finally figure it out.
If you don't think continually tearing it apart and trying to mod it to make it actually function sounds fun for the $700 you spent to get this PoS then you should try returning one within the 90 day warranty... amazing how quick this suddenly becomes your problem. Whisker probably the worse company I've ever dealt with. 139 Better Business Bureau complaints in last 3 years and 119 of those were in last 12 months.... they don't seem to be fixing anything.
Mine did the same thing...1st LR4 replaced entirely, then the second one was replaced with a new base. Noticed on the app troubleshooting,( light color-green, then red/green light), that with this new base there is a: NEW HARD RESET! Hold the power button and button with X down(reset) until red light flashes, release buttons, and it goes through is light sequence then cycle. Also, on some troubleshooting guide it said to run 2 full cycles to reset the LR4 scale and app.
Lolololol I wish that was the case. Although the LR4 has gotten much better with recent firmware updates, I stand by these earlier videos 100%. Read a few comments other people have made. I'm not alone in my views.
Agree with you about it being an $700 crap. For people who don't travel a lot and need to leave the cat home, just do the traditional thing. It does not worth the $$$ :(
Thanks for the video but I cant get the solid red to go away. I put the base manually back to the normal position and then it tries to run the cycle and goes red again. I can't get the blue light to appear to even do a manual reset! Any advice?
Thanks so much. I bought this thinking it was an end to 3 boxes 4 3 cats....I've had my head in cat poo more with this thing than ever before 😂will try tips cuz mine isn't a year old😢
I am having same issue with it not working but i just fixed it after trying everything in this video except resetting app. I was able to fix it by cleaning the poop out then it cycle. definitely an issue with the scale or weight of the litter. It works now all i did was clean poop out to get the weight lowered. i have never reset after adding litter but know now to do that bc of the weight of the litter inside changes things and throws the computer off of its thinking.
Computers are supposed to make our lives better. But, a computer in a litter box? Add both of those together and you have a S_it Show. Thanks much for posting this VBLOG. I'm sure it'll come in handy and help prevent me from throwing the equivalent of a videotape player off of the roof; except instead of a videotape player, it would possibly be the Liter Robot 4. BTW - I was on hold with Whisker Customer Support for so long, I grew a beard and decided to shave while I was on "eternal hold" waiting for their customer service rep to answer my questions. You are SPOT ON about waiting for days to get customer support. You'd think with 70% of Litter Robot owners NOT living in the eastern time zone that Whisker would have customer support service hours from 8 AM to 8 PM (PST). Thanks again for posting this video!
If all options fail and your robot is flashing white and green, the second I turn it on it wants too spin but goes for a millisecond and stops take everything out flip it upside down and start smacking the bottom too get all loose litter out of the gears and gear box underneath.! Worked once everything else failed.
My red light goes off all the time and I have never once had to take the globe out to fix it. I have 2 different methods to fix it and none of them include removing the globe. The first one is to 1. Simply take the palm of your hand and wipe side to side across the sensors a couple times. Then hit the reset button. And the sencond is to 2. Take a paper towl, get a piece of it wet, then squeeze out any excess water and then wipe the damp paper towl over the sensors. Then take a dry paper towl and wipe the sensors again. Then hit the reset button. Basically there is either a piece of hair or dust particle that is triggering the sensor.
My issue has recently has been the movement in the drawer. I realized there is a censor in the drawer but this thing is way to sensitive. Obviously there is nothing moving in the drawer.
You must be really angry with the company that supply this thing since it is only you that I have seen on the entire UA-cam that keep ranting about it. And I have seen a lot of videos before I purchased it. I had this for nearly a month and it is working great. Initially it had a few little issues with cats being overly curious and sensors freaking out but after that it has worked just fine.
What if I can't reset? Tried holding both buttons for 10 seconds and tried the normal wifi onboarding technique but nothing works. It won't clean the litter unless I restart it. I am going on vacation soon so need this thing to be working again with my phone. It's gone from my app as well. 😢
IMPORTANT FOR RED LIGHT!!!! I just read that red light comes on when sleep mode is on. I have never set sleep on and my robot 4 is only a week old. For some reason, on the app, sleep mode had turned on all day, which makes the light red constant. Turned off sleep mode, cycled by itself, and red light is gone and now back to blue.

How do you remove the strip? I have a long haired cat too and I think it’s messing with the sensors as well
if it's similar to the LR3 you can just disable that sensor by stripping the wires and completing the circuit.

YOURE THE BEST!!
Glad to help!
I'm so glad it helped!
Thank you so much! After manually moving the globe and putting it back it worked! :)) have a good day! Thank you my friend!
Thank you!! I watched your side be side comparison and opted/bought the Leos loo.
I think it's a solid choice. Mine is going strong with zero issues
you are a life saver. i never was able to contact customer support due to my work schedule. my LR4 was trying to connect to the wifi (its been off the wifi for the past week why would it do that now) last night i emptied and refreshed litter it was working fine. but when i came home from work and looked at the robot it was full of waste which was weird so i cycled , kept stopping i even reset it. it then cycled but then stoped upside down… i tried trouble shooting and even considered trying to get a replacement tomorrow BUT YOUR VIDOE HELPED!!!!!! now to try and fix this wifi situation which is so ANNOYING.
Omg!!! After hours and hours after i watched this! You really just fixed my litter box!!
Glad it worked!!
Step 3 Worked. Thanks !
Perfect ! Great video... Is it still working ? Im gonna try tonight. I have exactly the same issue....
Oh good. I’m not the only one. Press the buttons and it shuts off. No idea how to get it to do that reset. 😕
my LR3 completely stopped even turning on after a bit over a year and it drove me NUTS. i’ve been thinking about upgrading to the LR4 anyways so i thought what the heck ill order the new one i dont wanna deal with this headache anymore (i’ve fiddled with the crap box way too much and don’t feel like going through a tune up repair). i love how i’m already watching videos about what to do when the crap box 4 fails me😂😂😂😂the thing about the litter robots are that they are AMAZING when they work but an absolute MENACE to deal with when they fck up. WISH ME LUCK WITH MY NEW LR4 COMING IN 😢
Thank you sir!!! I'll try this tomorrow... it's been a nightmare
I’m having an issue with the bonnet not staying securely closed. The sides stay secure but the top notch keeps popping off. I have cleaned every part of the litter robot just in case that was an issue. Any suggestions?
Reach out to customer support. That's really the only step. That's a known issue unfortunately.
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos thank you.
Canceling the cycle worked for me!! Thanks!!!
I'm not that patient for an over-priced unit that suppose to have no flaws. But I appreciate your knowledge good luck.
This is fantastic! Now please tell me how to keep the inside the robot from getting all gunky. I too use fresh step but man it just smears all on the inside what the hell
The hero we needed
Thank you. The first suggested solution worked for me!
Empty the litter twice a week.
Don’t overload the litter box with sand. Stick to the fill line. Works great and always has.
Anything for over torque fail?
Knock on wood, I haven't had that one yet.
Ours has worked great so far (2 month) thank you so much for figuring this out.
This video was incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Thank you!
A $700 litter box shouldn't require dozens of emails to get something accomplished. Just my opinion though.
Love my machine! Would never choose another brand personally
Step 1 fixed it!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much for all of your help
This was very helpful. Wish there were better instructions for the product.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! You're a lifesaver ❤
Thank you for making this fix it video. It was very helpful.
I'm so glad it helped!
Thank you for this video. You helped fix ours.
Awesome! Glad I could help!
Lolololol For those considering a litter robot, they are great. This guy is just doing an ad for Leo’s loo.
It does not worth the $$$ :(
SAVED MY BACON AND MY NERVES!!!
Thanks for the video but I cant get the solid red to go away. I put the base manually back to the normal position and then it tries to run the cycle and goes red again. I can't get the blue light to appear to even do a manual reset! Any advice?
Thanks so much. I bought this thinking it was an end to 3 boxes 4 3 cats....I've had my head in cat poo more with this thing than ever before 😂will try tips cuz mine isn't a year old😢
Thank you so much, sorry you had to go through this
I am having same issue with it not working but i just fixed it after trying everything in this video except resetting app.
Is it worth the investment?
I have 3 LR 2’s and I absolutely love them
Thank you so much mine is working now
Computers are supposed to make our lives better.
I love my LR4, I’m super careful when I clean it because I don’t want to break sensors but I cant live with out it now.
Next tip for my self is to down size and make sure I don’t end up with 6 cats ever again!!!!
Yikes! That's some around advice! 😂
If all options fail and your robot is flashing white and green, the second I turn it on it wants too spin but goes for a millisecond and stops take everything out flip it upside down and start smacking the bottom too get all loose litter out of the gears and gear box underneath.! Worked once everything else failed.
Ugh, was testing the CatLink litter robot, didn't have to do any of this!
Leo’s Loo seems to have the same price tag still trying to decide which one to purchase
Have u decided which one? I’m in the same boat . Leaning towards Leo’s thiugh
Well, I got another replacement for the LR4 and it arrived broken from the factory. Needless to say, the LL2 is still running like a champion!
Thank you so much God Bless you.
Had a LR3 no problem, the LR4 is a pile of crap. Nothing but problems.
thanks for this. i was totally gonna get one of these next year but no way im putting my baby in there.
My red light goes off all the time and I have never once had to take the globe out to fix it.
I have 2 different methods to fix it and none of them include removing the globe. The first one is to
1. Simply take the palm of your hand and wipe side to side across the sensors a couple times. Then hit the reset button.
And the sencond is to
Watch the rest of my videos on the LR4. It's been a love/hate relationship.
The rubber base is not popping up... Can you help? Please! Cannot find anything here
I would reach out to Whisker. Sounds like it might be a defect
@@dontburnthehousedownvideos thank you so much for replying!!!
When performing the master reset my litter robot 4 just shuts off.
Mine has been stuck for 2 weeks. I can't figure out why it's not working
My LR4 says full within a day after changing the liner. Only have one cat.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I wanted you to know that the first add on this vid was an advertisement for said litter robot...😅
Mine never goes back to blue. It goes to bright pink, never red. Haven't seen red in two days.
