This is going to sound strange, but one thing I love about the gameplay they show is it looks brutal. Not pretty & fancy, but hard exhausting, hurts like hell fight for your life stuff, not glorifying it. Like the fact the silent kill at the start, isn't quick & easy, it's hard & takes time. I'm squeamish as hell and watched most of the trailer flinching the whole time. On a lighter note the kiss animation is amazing. Can't wait to play this game.
I completely agree! There's nothing less badass than making it look easy. Fighting through blood, sweat and tears really creates an amazing tension that showcases how strong the character really is because you can see that they're mortal.

Yeah i agree! I feel like one of the best aspects of the last of us is the contrast between the light and dark moments. Having dark moments really makes the few light moments feel special and vice versa.

One of the reasons i love this game is because the last of us dlc helped me coming to terms with being gay. I was so mad when i read the comments on the official trailer.. didn’t know so many people were homophobic now days..

I'm really happy that they are sticking with the lesbian angle of her story and not pussing out because of the controversy. I feel like if they took it out, it would have diminished her character a lot, especially since they established that in her backstory.
The reason a lot of people didn't think it was established really is because they were young and it could have been curiosity. An ex of mine told me she kissed one of her best girl friends when she was 12 because she wanted to know what it was like and never did again after.
Also, the odds that two best friends end up to both be gay are very, very slim if this were reality. That being said, it still is an awesome story and game either way and it's even LESS likely for THIS outbreak to happen than for girls to be gay haha.

Regardless of your ex's orientation after the kiss, simply doing that does raise the possibility in the first place. Hence, it should be no surprise if she went the other way. Plus, in reality, people of the same orientation tend to become close friends.

The Cult Antagonists have named her "The Wolf", now that's fukn cool. This game looks gorgeous outrageous amazing.
TLOU is my all time favourite game. This looks as good if not better, well maybe not better but as good.

If you look closely at each of the trailers, you can piece together a story. The first story is her saying she will "Find and kill every last one of them". Then in the second trailer, we're introduced to a cult that does inhumane things to its nonbelievers. Then here, if you pay attention, you'll notice Dina is wearing a bracelet. And in the gameplay sequence, you see Ellie wearing the same bracelet. So like the firefly pendent from Riley, she kept a relic from a close friend. When you realize the people she's hunting is the same cult from the second trailer, you can tell that Dina was probably killed by the cult, Ellie took her bracelet and is hunting them down. That's the plot.

While this makes sense, I also highly doubt they would go for the dead love interest trope twice, considering Riley died too. Perhaps Dina is kidnapped, or if the woman in the hammer trailer was Ellie's mother, its possible she is involved in the story somehow. The gameplay section apparently takes place a year after the church dance, so Dina could simply have given her the bracelet.

A AL i dont think the woman in the second trailer is Ellie’s mum because she died shortly after Ellie was born.
dan290786 at the last of us II panel at e3 they stated that the dance apparently takes place 4 years after the end of the first game, while the reveal trailer and gameplay is set 5 years after. And it's true, it hasnt been confirmed that the woman is her mother, but its very possible that scene is set before she died and the religious group has simply been around for a long time like the Fireflies were. All theories though.

The combat! OMG THE COMBAT! It looks so seamless, so fluid, so dynamic, so gruesome, so surprising, SO UNBELIEVABLY SEXY! I already want a hoard mode. Just endless waves of baddies so I can really get lost in the combat and hone my skills. Amazing trailer and gameplay! Amazing reaction video! Jeff de Leon Yeah looks Amazing l hope the game play combat mechanics are the same as they appear to be in the demo playthrough because the first games combat functionality and look was a slightly different after its release. they always show the best demo during gaming showcases like E3 but sometimes finished released game isn't exactly the same. either way l think it will be a great game though.

I'm really looking forward to this game, the gameplay looks SICK, next-level amazing, and the animations and voice acting are superb in the way only Naughty Dog has achieved.
I have to say though, I'm sooooo sick of hearing about identity politics in gaming. Sick of both sides of the argument. I really don't give a shit what any character's group identity is. I only want the games to be good. I want the protagonist to make sense in the game world. I don't need to identify with the protagonist's gender or sexuality or race. I just want to relate to what they are going through in the story and I want them to be someone to root for. Ellie checks all those boxes. The kiss scene was nice, was superbly animated and staged, I was happy for Ellie, it was congruent with her character.
Characters are interesting for their individual traits, not their group identification.

it's seriously so pathetic the mindset of people that watched this demo and then go off on tirades about political nonsense.. one would have to have no heart to watch such a touching scene between two people and dismiss it entirely with accusatory statements about pandering to sjw agenda or social engineering or what have you.. it's crazy how a person's belief system can lead to such a skewed perspective on the world, bigotry and hate, masquerading as righteous wokeness..
"Naughty Dog" not the only studio that can pull this off, you forgetting "Cd Projekt"
CD Projekt Red?. Bioware did this for years with Mass effect. They went 3 games with all the LGBT you could want with absolutely no fanfare and it was great. The lack of fanfare and pointing going "look see we're progressive" made everything in the game normal. Then Mass effect andromeda came and they made the politics part of the story and all of a sudden everyone starts complaining and giving out. Kinda like Star Wars now as well
But power to Ellie, such a great character. Can not wait for this game!!!
+Ray Ilmast I love CDPR but even they aren't as skilled as ND when it comes to complex character animations. Compare Witcher 3's animations to this or Uncharted 4's and ND is the clear winner.

The gameplay is so dang smooth, and I'm loving how the AI behaves in combat. It makes the enemies more human but also more threatening. Also loved your change in reaction from the kiss to Ellie killing the guy hahaha. Another great reaction video!

DepthOfDarkNess Obviously I know that she's a fictional character and that I can't actually protect her. There are plenty of things going on in the world that should probably make you more scared for the future than me, a person you do not know, having empathy for a character that I enjoy in a type of media I enjoy consuming. There's nothing wrong with wanting to see characters you relate to in media being happy. Media representation is important in more ways than you might know. Do I think she'll get a happy ending in a game like the Last of Us? It doesn't seem entirely likely, but in a game like the Last of Us where the developers want to explore characters and morality and want us to connect and feel something, I don't think it's stupid to want to protect a character, even though we logically know that we can't. I am positive that people have had similar feelings for characters in TV shows and books and other types of entertainment where the characters are fictional. Personally, I think you should be more concerned for people who don't have empathy than for those who do, but you do you, and I'll do me. Have a good day 🙂

1) I like that everyone in the gameplay sequences are dressed in color tones that better blend them into their surroundings.
2) The enemy cultists (presumably the same one in the cinematic teaser with Yara, Lev, and the mystery woman) use specific types of whistles to signal each other, and their inter-unit communication flows so much more realistically compared to the same in the first game.
3) The directional indicator of where enemies are about to detect you is a nice touch (especially for those players who aren't as conscientious of their exposed flank or rear when sneaking).
4) The seamlessness of transitions from animation to animation of different activities is great: Ellie recovering an arrow and visibly putting it in her quiver instead of the previous cuts to them vanishing, drawing different weapons.
5) The camera work and filter effects are terrific. When Ellie pulls that arrow fragment from her shoulder, the screen blurs just momentarily at the point of pain. The pacing and timing of the weapon swings. All these little factors and touches contribute to amping up the visceral feeling of emotion of whatever they want us to feel the characters, player and enemies, are feeling.
6) We know the mood music has dynamically responded to the pace of activity and action in the past, but it also seems more fluid overall now, and has that wonderful "heartbeat" beat when action is slow.
7) In terms of the earlier footage being in-engine, it will presumably have the same capacity for seamless transitioning from cutscene animation to gameplay animation that we saw in Uncharted 4 and TLL.
8) The terrain and environmental "layout"--where you seem to be able to physically go or not go--seems less linear than in past ND games. The levels will probably not be GTA/Red-Dead level open world, but the gameplay areas seem like they could be larger little sandbox areas to play around in, which would be nice.
9) Storywise, a commenter on another video pointed out something interesting. During the dance scene, Dina's wearing a bracelet on her hand. When you look closely during the gameplay, Ellie's wearing the same bracelet and it can be seen during the final kill scene.
10) I may've read it elsewhere (or I made it up and am attributing it to some internet rando instead of claiming credit for it myself) but it seemed like the mystery woman in the previous trailer could conceivably be an older sister of Ellie's too?

Strange Rebel, Thank you so much for being so supportive and excited about ND's intentional effort to explore all aspects of Ellie's character development, including her sexual orientation. This video is an oasis in a sea of homophobic bullshit. I've played single-player games for 20 years but NO GAME has EVER gotten me as hyped and excited as this trailer. TLOU2 may just end up being the answer to all my hopes and dreams for an ideal video game: one that fuses suspenseful and fluid gameplay, tight and engaging narrative, natural dialogue, gorgeous acting and animation, and well-rounded characters--many of whom are female, non-straight, non-white (or some combination thereof), and 1000% BADASS. I cannot wait to see how the relationship between Ellie and Dina plays out. Dina already looks so interesting as a character and we've seen only a snippet of her. I trust ND to avoid stupid tropes (i.e. 'evil bisexual woman' or 'bury your gays') and I'm so glad it's them making this game and not another company. Again, thank you for posting this
I look forward to the day a kiss between a woman and a woman (or a man/man) is just as forgettable as a kiss between a man and a woman in the media we watch. It shouldn't be a big deal, at all.

4:12 when you walk in your parents room at 3 am
One of the big gameplay reveals during the E3 panel was that there's now a dedicated jump button for Ellie. You can see her jump that gap after she gets shot with an arrow, but it was impossible to tell if that was done with a button press or if it was done automatically as she ran toward the ledge. Obviously they aren't going to turn it into Uncharted with Ellie just bounding around like Drake or Chloe, but that alone can add so much to the gameplay options. They have mentioned that there will be a lot more verticality in Part II compared to the original because of what Ellie can do. So even though the changes can seem small, they do a good job of making it clear that Ellie's not just a reskinned version of Joel in terms of gameplay. She's faster and a lot more agile.
