Field Kit Mixer Experiment: how to make ambient pads with the built-in oscillator and effect pedals

The Field Kit from Koma Elektronik is a really interesting mixer. It lends itself so well to crazy experiments. For this test I wanted to make chords out of the built-in oscillator. Basically I generated one tone with the Field Kit’s built in LFO. I sent that tone to an external headphone mixer to split it into 4 channels. Then I effected the pitch of three of the channels using guitar pedals. I used the Blooper from Chase Bliss Audio, and Count to Five from Montreal Assembly, and a Habit.
By plugging them back into the Field Kit, you can then play the faders on like a type of keyboard. I first saw this technique years ago on a Sonic State video with Alessandro Cortini using a cassette 4-track.
To add more variation to the tones, I put an Electro Harmonix Intelligent Harmony Machine pedal on the main output. I also added a touch of reverb with the Specular Tempus and Microcosm. Basically, I used almost everything I own to make the mixer sound like an organ. Not the most streamlined use of time or gear, but a fun experiment. Sometimes just messing around is better than being efficient. Anyways, I hope you like it! Thanks for checking our channel and videos and experiments out.

Wonderful! I love running the oscillator through the EHX superego plus to make drones. If I had enough pitch shifting pedals I’d definitely give this a go.
