most unseasoned techs will throw parts at 2 cycle engines till they run....dont guess.....test!!! before you dump 15 dollars into a carb kit that you cant get your money back on....... try these simple test procedures before rebuilding it
The shops I worked in, if I tried all that testing, I would be fired the first day.
Sounds like pretty janky shops. I’d never set foot in a shop that just throws parts at a machine till it’s fixed
It all depends if you enjoy doing it or not
Help on the conversion. Your gauge reads in Megapascals abbreviated Mpa. You said, "0.5." I think you meant ".05" which is equal to 7.25 psi. Each .01 Mpa is equal to 1.45 psi
Finally a good, comprehensive and realistic video showing what has been my overall impression on rebuilds. Compared to all these other videos claiming how easy it is and acting like every rebuild is a success and where have you been, I like your approach and explanation the best.
What is the name of that tool? Went to E-Bay and I put in leak down tester and got a ton of big engine stuff. That thing is cool and I'd really like one! Maybe some more specific keywords could help my search (brand, manufacturer or something). Love your video's.
You just helped clear up a whole lot questions, thank you for this video.
@ MFL92028, before you criticise folk try to get your facts correct, your lack of knowlege as to where the fuel goes in, the fuel inlet pipe, and where it goes out, the jet assembly, shows your ignorance. The primer sucks the fuel from the fuel tank, where do you think the fuel comes from ? What is he testing with the pressure test ? simple, basically two things, one that the needle valve is seating and sealing and second that the diaghphragm and its gaskets are intact and not leaking.
This is just one of many tests on these carbs and it found a fault before it was dismantled, saving time, another is a vacuum test.
Jeremy has covered this task of pressure testing very well, if he covered the whole testing and as you suggest ( "explanation & understanding" about what all is going on in the carb ) the video would then get too complex, too long and involved and defeat his object of describing simple quick tests.
Keep up the excelent work Jeremy.
P.S. MFL92028, why don't you produce and post on UA-cam a technical instructional video so all can see how it should, according to you, be done.
here is a another tip if your crab still leaks down after rebuilding take out the needle vale and take a tooth pick and put in the set and turn it back and forth for a bout a min or so do not put a lot of pressure on it or it will brake off it the set . this will reset the needle vale and you well be surprise at how this works . i do it when i rebuild one so it dose not leak after i am finished rebuilding .
I've been a motorcycle mechanic (Japanese) for 35 years and have never had as much trouble with anything like these little carbs..Very informative video, finally someone who knows how these little buggers actually work. I''ll have to get one of those pop-off testers. TYVM!!
"High is low, low is high" Appreciated that.
The little pump can be found on Amazon for about $35. Search small engine carburetor pressure tester.
love the video thanks. I cant find that hand pump but I will keep looking
Great video! I didn't know about the low is high and hi is low. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jeremy, Great info here but I need some clarification. Question: When you are using the thumb pump to test are you only testing the seal of the gaskets or is there some carbs that have a one way check valve in them that you are testing? I have a rotary carb on a Echo that I rebuilt and works fine but after sitting for a couple of days the gas in the primer bulb leaks back to the tank.
yall ever just thought about buying a 10.00 manual blood pressure cuff ? it has a guage already has a hose and a release valve and a sqeeze pump lol and after your done you can stick the hose back on the cuff and check your blood pressure lol
jk but with a simple T fitting to hook the guage inline it works fine and saves alot of money
What is the brand name of the pump? I looked on e-bay but could not find one?
OK, all this diagnostic procedure is a nice idea, but most of the time, these carbs suffer from the known effects of ethanol fuel left in the fuel system. I had a trimmer that was leaking fuel and running poorly. I removed the carb, found the numbers on the side and ordered a rebuild kit. The kit included both diaphragms and corresponding gaskets, primer bulb fuel lines and line filter plus parts I did not need. I then replaced all that was needed, reinstalled the carb and bingo, fixed. Total cost....under 20 bucks!
Good video can you PLEASE help to find the thumb pump? Ive looked all over E bay and the web with no luck
Look under carburetor pressure tester on Ebay
Super job, wish it was just a bit more in focus. But awesome job. Thank you.
Hi Jeremy ,loved your video and I think that it will solve my problem, too.I will let u know. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us. choctawman
I’m getting ready to take a look at one that I have actually replaced already but have saved the old one. I’m glad I watched this video because now I have a better idea of what to do and look for Thank You. 👍👍
Also, to make it perfect add just a little more direct light in the work area.
Awesome video! Thank you for filming this and posting! And, I don't care what you say, that sure looked like moonshine to me! :)
Great teaching, great video, thanks so much!
Very nice music dude ta ta taaa,👍😊
And work is also nicely good
One of the best so far. I've been going over my equipment this spring and lots of two-cycle carb madness. You are the only vid I've found (so far) that went the extra mile to show how to test and evaluate beyond sticking a kit it the carb. Lots of good tips that help us know WHY the thing had failed. Gotta get that pressure gizmo!
it came in the kit from echo part number 91046
Very good video... best 1 yet on these carbs! Thanks
I have rebuilt ohhhhh a few of these and about 50% of those carbs had to be replaced🤪 and I NEVER new why? I knew it was something internal but NOW I KNOW WHY! And my 1970s stihl chainsaw came apart and went together 3 times after the rebuild thinking there was dirt still in it?? New carb on the shelf! I might just do that job today!
Thanx for an EXCELLENT INFORMATIVE VIDEO!!!! ❤️🇺🇸
there is a part 84-615 in top chamber you can replace to stop primer malfunction and leak down also. it too will give you a leak down on vac
For those looking for a pressure tester, one version is STENS # 705-020 (expensive). Will update when I find one at reasonable cost.
Careful, it says Not compatible and warranty void with equipment using greater than 10% ethanol-blend fuel, so don't let it suck up any fuel into it.
Another alternative is the Mityvac mitmv8500, it provides both vacuum and pressure at the flip of a switch.
Very details video, this is one of the best that I have seen, thanks for sharing your knowledge.👏🏾🤙🏾🙏🏿👍🏾🇯🇲🇨🇦👨🏾🔧 water testing is a bonus to know 😳🤔.
Hi, I face an issue of Fuel Economy, Power & Pick Up
Kinetic ZX Zoom 2 Stroke (2001) 110cc
The carburetor seems to be leaking.
I recently got the bike serviced & the mechanic changed the float pin/needle. Earlier before this the bike gave me a modest 35-45 kmpl. But now it's dropped down to 15/20.. Kmpl. Also the initial pickup & instant pickup of the bike has fallen drastically. Besides, when I open full throttle the bike stops after a minute or so.
Kindly help & instruct me as to what needs to be done.
CAN YOU ORDER IN THE STATES AND HAVE THEM SHIPPED TO YOU CHEAPER?
THEMOWERMEDIC1 THE SMALL ENGINE SPECIALIST
Very good tutorial. Only question I have is where to find a new needle and diaphragm? Those things don't sound like something I can just pick up anywhere. I would pay good money to be taught a class like this.
Anybody knows what kind of pump is this? Could not find it.
Thanks! What Pump?
Thank you. Very interesting and informative video.
Please advise, my walbro wyl carb pops off and reseats at 2.5psi In operation the fuel inlet never reaches pop off pressure.
Fuel is drawn in by carburator. What does pop off pressure test?
Is my carb bad?
GREAT Video
Can you get me the actual name and /or ebay link of the pressure tester?
where is a Location for the THUMB PUMP... Looked all over EBAY... Why not give a Site location ...
sometimes i'm able to do that
MM1, another great video. Love the smile young man. Keep it up, much appreciated!
excellent video .....thanks for sharing !
Hi, very good video. Can you please give me a link to the thumb pump. I can't seem to find it. Thanks. Tom
Hi Jeremy When you say high is low and low is high are you referring to the length in case you mix them up Great Video thankyou for sharing your knowledge
Im pulling a 1966 suzuki t-20 apart for a guy. Know anything about them?
Loved your video. The detail you went into a lot of videos didn't even touch on. Leak down tester and water are great test to do before and after a rebuild. You must have formal training in this field of small engine repair. It's information I feel I can trust. The only small negative I could say is the focus during parts of assembly.
lol, me too, but he has a very flat toned voice so you can never tell if he is taking the micky or not lol :-)
Mowermedic1 and Donnyboy73 are allways great to learn from :-)
thank-you that was great .everything I always wanted to know. great video!
You're high and low screw you should have turned all the way in first and counted the terms that is where you start at
No
I didn't see you take a gasket off of the metering diaphragm side. I went back to where you took it apart.
keyang 33 cc not idling after 5-6 years in storage i will try soaking the gasket but dont have the pressure tester what else can i use
BWCB,
How do you diagnose a leaking high speed nozzle in one of these little carbs? Ive got a walbro HDA carb that wont hold a tune and I think that high speed nozzle check valve is leaking air back into the circuit but I cannot figure out how to test it.
Thanks for the good vids.
Bob
thanks for the tips like the spring lever position
Hi sir,Great tutorial thank you.I had a leak in my carb just like your`so I bought the correct carb kit,and it still leaked but slower bubbles,I noticed when inspecting the carb,I noticed very fine scratches that lead to the ends of the carb,I figured that air was running along the scratch pattern and out it was coming.
My question is`will the new gasket seal once fuel starts to enter the carb,as the diaphragm should swell and fill any very fine scratches or will it not.?
also wonder is there a way to smooth the very light scratch lines out?
I saw a channel keep carb gaskets he had as old extras in brake fluid to keep them pliable, have you seen that practice, to be able to re-use?
What do you think my Craftman 18" chain saw problem is: It revs up wide open with the choke in and then slows way down by itself. Then it cuts off. I tried adjusting the L & H mixture, changed spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, gas cap, It idles up an down wide open. Also took out the screen in the exhaust muffler.
the screen inside the carb is clog up replace it . you can hold it up to a light to see how bade it is . you can get a new one under a buck. or in a carb kit.
Thanks so much for the advice!
I have a choke lever on my 2 cycle carburetor. Can I convert it to this carb with the high & low setting?.
what brand hand pump are you using in the video? I can't find that one on ebay.
Good info. Clear & easy to follow video. Thanks
Soak gaskets in brake fluid
Great video my friend!! I rebuild a lot of carbs but you are the first I ever saw use a jar of moonshine to check for leaks!! lol!! All jokes a side... That is an awesome way to check for leaks!! Thanks for taking the time to share!
NIce test :-), those block carbs are so tiny, sneeze and it vanishes :-)
Moonshine lol, your nearly as mad as us lol :-)
Can I use the vacuum/pressure tester to do this same test?
Terrific vid- most helpful. Where can I get the pressure tester in Europe !
Excellent tutorial. Just enough detail to explain and not bog down.
Who else learned from his calming instruction but impossible to watch because of focusing issues? Sir, can you record your next 2 cycle carb troubleshooting and rebuild just like this please. I like your style. New Sub
Just happy little diaphragms
Learned a lot. Wish it was in focus.
Okay everytime I click on what the fix is it ain't what it says
What what says
I replaced the fuel lines on my troy built weed eater and now all the gas will leak out after use... Used Oregon yellow tubing..... only used the thing 5 times in past 10 years... lines rotted so I replaced now leaks like hell after use and before if left sitting with any gas in it....
+SouthernPrinceKenny Unfortunately it sounds like you used the wrong diameter fuel lines. These things should be a tight fit. You should be cursing as you fight to get them in the holes. Of course I'm exagerating but they should be a tight fit. Once the tank gets some pressure if they are too small the line will pop out and the fuel will start leaking out.
Love your vids on you tube learned a lot from them. I have a question about a echo blower I have. Is a pb 200 model. Whenever I give it gas it dies out would run with choke partially on since I replaced carb on it will idle but cant throttle it up just dies out.have replaced the fuel lines and grommet kit In addition. Any help will be appreciated this blower is a project of mine lol. Keep up the good work
I know its been awile since your post but did you cure your problem? Cleaned out
The spark arrestor?
Fantastic vid !! Thanks
good video man, i have never had to replace a carburetor, i guess i have been lucky except i had to replace the pulsa prime carburetor on my 3.5 hp briggs and stratton! but i do have a question: how do you remove trash from the fuel stems on a pulsa prime carburetor? are the fuel stems removable?
thank you , I learned interesting things about the carburetor. Now I must check my rc plane engine carburetor
Jeremy, great vid. Can I get a little more info on that little thumb pump. I've scoured ebay and can't find the one you are using. Is it called something other than thumb pump?
walbro 57-11
I cannot find where to buy the pump on e bay, please help.
Jeremy,
I have a jonsered 451e. I replaced the gaskets and I can't remember if I did the needle because this was over a year and a half ago. Anyhow, the carb runs great once started, but if you let the saw sit for over a month all fuel runs out of the carb back into the tank and the saw takes about 50 pulls to start. Major PITA. Wondering if this is a needle and seat problem or an air leak on the carb. I don't have a pressure tester. Tollitson carb. Thanks
Need a link on e bay, where to buy that pump. Thanks, Arnie
Great work, I have the same sthil fs 45. My question is about the idle trim screw, is there a initial setting for it? Thank you for everything.
whats the name of the vacuum/pressure tester thing you are using at the beginning of the video?
Awesome contribution, sir. Very grateful for these pearls of wisdom so i can rebuild my walbro carburetor for my goped 2 cycle scooter!
Buy a new one. It's easier than screwing with ordering kits and rebuild.
Easier yes. But not everyone can afford a 40$ carb
My Husq 55 is worth trying a kit since the oem carb is $150! Got a stubborn 032AV I'm thinking needs a carb but hesitant to order one since I don't know whether points could be an issue with not running. Has good spark, hits on choke but won't run. Put a kit in it already, aside from Welch plug.
Thank for the video. Simple cleanup for my weed eater got it running again.
What are that tool called, the one you used to do the pressure test on this video?
Good job! Do you have any videos on rotary type zama carbs?
could you please tell me what;s the necessary pressure?
Great video Jeremy--You're a good teacher.
Mower medic I replaced the needle and it does still fall super slow but it does fall. I changed the gaskets too because I did see a very small leak there. So do I need a new carb?
I would. Carbs are cheaper to replace than repair
Thanks hombre
I'm getting spark but even when I spray carb cleaner into the carb opening to go right into the piston nothing happens it won't even try to start no even for a second .
Need to perform a leak down test
steve dental check the compression pressure, but firsthand replace the spark plug 🔌, even you see spark shoot out from your old spark plug.
I say check sparkplug arrester screen.and take a look at the piston for scarring..
what is that pump called and where do I get one?
This would have been awesome in focus. Haha..
Excellent explanation and demonstration!
Blurry poorly lit video not much help
Thanks for watching!
Very informative video. Thanks for the upload!! :thumbs up:
Btw, you sound just like my Father-in-Law (Central Illinois accent).
Great viedo, thanks for the tip on the thump pump. haven't seen any better.
At times a fella needs the Moon Shine to quail aggravation LOL
what is the number for the pressure pump?
Best video
Nice , what's the name of that tool or the link please.
