I know it’s just a movie but it gave a stereotypical look at interfaith, interracial and inter ethnicity relationships. Most people/families are not that ignorant to other race or cultures. I am in a inter ethnicity marriage as my husband is Puerto Rican. Both our families were very accepting of us. I felt this movie was just scrabbling and lazy with the whole concept and it felt rushed. It had so much potential to do a new take on interracial relationships but it fell flat.

I feel you, but Kenya Barris is a one-trick pony. He's not (yet) a movie director, but he's the flavor of the moment and keeps getting opportunities despite the phukk shit. Had Jordan Peele directed this, it would've AT LEAST been funny and cinematic. And I imagine that the casting would've been better, too. No way Jonah Hill's parents would look like those two people (such a weird choice by Kenya) or Eddie and Nia having a kid that looks like Lauren London. Just bad storytelling all around.

He has the industry's backing behind him and chooses to make films like this, like it's so bizarre to me, not to mention why does the racial background always have to be a component? Why not weight or size? Why not disability? Why not educational background? Literally anything else but the same old Jim Crow sh*t.

I happen to be a multiracial person whose family backgrounds are multi-faith, who’s dated men of various races/ethnicities. For face value, I think the movie was trying to point out that nothing has really changed when it comes to this topic within the United States. For whatever reason we are still experiencing a lot of issues when it comes to interracial relationships between black and white people. I will always appreciate “Jungle Fever” because it made us have conversations that were necessary on my college campus. I have never seen a movie made in the US regarding people of other races besides black and white when it comes to this issue that addresses the topic directly. “You People” was kind of slow in spots. I was just hoping that perhaps they left a lot of substance on the cutting room floor. If that is what happened that is unfortunate.

I am Jewish and do not identify as white. My ancestors were from tribes in from the Middle East. This wasn't addressed at all along with many other Jewish tropes. The ending was ridiculous and as a couple they had zero chemistry.

I watched this movie with a stank face the entire time. All my friends kept saying how they can relate to Laura Londons experience and I myself have never had the experience of a white woman walking up to me talking about police brutality. My friends became upset but that’s NEVER been my experience.

Not a Tyler Perry fan but one of his movies had a black woman and a latino guy. I appreciated some aspects of it since my husband is latino lol. Movie had some pretty terrible moments though. Our wedding was intercultural in that we had interracial ceremonies, the officiant was bilingual, and a mariachi band performed September by EW&F lol.

3:04 the show Mo (also on Netflix) features an interracial couple between a Hispanic woman and an Arab man. I didn’t realize how novel it was to see it in a mainstream show. It was refreshing.

I've never found Lauren to be a good actress but I found her actually good here, and I'm so sad this was the script she got, because she was really working and u could tell. I felt like she really was prepared and she held her own against some very good actors and actresses. But also they literally played around with Nia, Eddie, David and Julia as well

Thank you for this review! I have yet to hear anything good about this movie, so when I watch it I’ll just turn the intellectual, analytical , linear equation “Solve for X” built side of my brain off 🤣🤣.
And when you said the part of there being more than just “black and white” I wanted to freaking CHEER. Because I ALWAYS SAY this, but because my husband is Black North American like myself I don’t have a “voice” in this conversation. Even though, he’s from DC, I’m Gullah Geechee-hell that’s a story right there 😂 But I digress….
There are people who are of different faiths, different tribes, different racial blends whom they and their children Im sure would LOVE representation, but to no avail.
Probably one of the few of these “Guess Whose Coming To Dinner” type of films that I like is Alex and Ani. It’s about a Greek Orthodox guy who falls in love with a Lebanese woman who is Muslim. It’s a cute little rom com that I think is worth a watch.
Again, we’re almost at 8 BILLION and I think we are all collectively tired of having ONLY chocolate and vanilla ice cream at the ONLY ice cream parlor in town 😏 Just saying.
(Super off topic, you are absolutely stunning btw! 🥰)

Great video. Very well done. I just finished watching this and I thought it was just horrible. Both families do their communities a total disservice and that may have worked if it was hilarious, but it isn’t. So you’re left with these very unlikeable people trying to become educated on a subject that the two lead characters already were. Finally, the means by which the families become educated is just so tacked on and rushed at the end, that what really should be the substantive lesson is completely lost.

I liked this movie, and I’m a POC before anyone assumes otherwise. It was definitely OTT and exaggerated, and tbh the black family were annoying, but at the end of the day it’s a comedy, not to be taken seriously. It made me laugh and it was enjoyable. Finally, somebody came out with the truth! The cringeness factor in this flick was up to 1000 with completely forgettable and shallow performances not to mention the script...one of the worst dialogues I have ever seen in an A-list movie! This movie portrays exactly what's wrong with the American film industry: pick a controversial theme like interracial relationships (in which I hate this term, since I'm Brazilian and we don't have such terms in our vocabulary), fill it up to the brink with useless and super cringeworthy elements from the woke police and the train wreck is done! Such mediocre times we are living and unfortunately it's rubbing on the entertainment industry as well...

It would’ve been more realistic for them to start dating again but finally with support from the parents. Even more realistic for them to get married and just deal with sides of the fam separately instead of at the same time
