    I noticed there were no instructional videos on how to put a stone crab trap together and get it ready to put in the water. So, I decided to make one for you. Enjoy and hope this video has helped you.

    I use the bowline knot. This is the best knot, and if tied properly, should never come undone. For my buoys, I tie them with a standard overhand knot. I've never had an issue.
    As for the thieves, there really isn't much you can do. Unless you catch them in the act and report them immediately, I'm not sure there's anything else I can suggest. Make sure you always write your contact info on the traps and concrete though!

    Next time tap the sides with a hammer , all u need is to vibrate the concrete enough to get rid of any air pockets that might weaken the structure ( gentle tapping with the hammer is sufficient) also a wire mesh within the concrete would of prolonged the life of the concrete structure.

    You can get the plastic portion of the traps at almost any fish shop. Usually come in a 5 pack since that is the most you are supposed to have.

    Thank you Mr. G! In Hobe Sound and about to deploy my new traps. What bait and how often do you check them?

    • @scottgerke976
      @scottgerke976 9 років тому

      Fish carcases = Check on them 3-4 days
      Pigs Feet = Around a week or so
      It really depends on the traffic your trap is getting but trial and error is your best bet in unfamiliar waters. Have fun!

    The traps from B&D have a bait holder and I noticed you didn't have one. Did you just toss the bait in without a hold down? Line length recommendation - double the length you'll be fishing in so 15 foot depth you should have 30 feet of total line. Also, some add weights at 3-4 feet off buoy and another 1/2 way down the line to prevent prop from wrapping large line sections. Do you agree?

      +thomas dee I just tossed the bait in there since there is nothing there to hold it down. As for line length, I will only add a couple feet to what the highest tide is in that area. If you make it too long, you risk a prop cutting it off or tangling up an animal. As for the weights, what you see my putting on the line is all you need. You shouldn't have to worry about the slack getting tangled at low tide I would think.
