I'm a giant fan I'm from Ireland I've always wished to be able to come fish and hunt with you and your brother and Kelly love yas all make my day watching a video
As a former concrete guy, a few suggestions. You can set the traps on plastic sheeting, then you can recycle that carboard, which you couldn't do if you poured concrete on it. For the wire, ideal is that the holes in it are a bit bigger than the rock in your mix. Small holes like you have could cause the tile to split through the center. I would use a piece of 2 by 4 to patty cake the concrete down and even it out so you don't have to get your hands in the wet concrete. Not for sensitive hands. I would fill them in until even with the top of that lid or just a tiny bit above it. I would also tap the outside of the plastic box with the 2 by 4. We call it consolidating the mud, which mostly means that you are getting the bubbles out of it and making sure it fills up under that rim. Don't tap with a standard metal hammer as that could break the plastic, and gentle tapping... Also, I would let them sit at least over night before picking up and moving. Yes, it is hard in an hour or 4, but if you drop it, it will shatter. If possible, soak in water for several days. The water will leach out the nasty concrete smells. Soaking in sea water or marsh water would be better.
When I was a kid back in the 70's, most places called them: "ICEE". Those are some nifty crab traps! Kelly, I don't care what anyone says, you & Gabe are hands down the best couple on youtube!!!
PS........I forgot to say I grew up in Melbourne Florida. Moved down here in 1969 when I was 7 yrs old. Still here. What little "convenience stores", gas stations, and pharmacies that were around back then, most sold Icee's. Slurpee's didn't come around ( if I remember correctly ) until the '80's, when the 7 Eleven's started popping up everywhere. So "Icee" is OLD SCHOOL...........LOL. I think Icee's cost us 10 to 15 cents back then.
Slurpy found you while in hospital . I use to manage bahia mar marina. Now on sassafras river cheasepeak bay. Watch stone crap traps the time you take to teach people is fantastic . The looks an bikini are nice but its your humility that keeps me watching you honestly seem to care that people learn . Thanks
A rubber mallet would work perfect, it won’t damage the traps and it will save your hands. After you build a number of traps like that, you’ll be waking up the next day with one sore hand. I like your hair when you tie it up like that Kelly, very elegant.
Hey Kelly been watching you, Gabe and Robert... I actually just looked into Stone Crab traps lol I am from up in South Jersey but my daughter lives in Sanford, went to Florida for College, started her career and never left, she also is a scuba diver and snorkels too lol goes to Islamorada, has friends there that she stays with and dives with... We would love to hook up with you folks sometime, I travel to Florida quite often... started my own Channel recently I Hunt Outdoors, I use to be involved with an outdoors production company filming hunts all over the US but they went belly up about 7 years ago (TV is much different that youtube lol)but I love filming and doing everything outdoors so I started my channel... keep up the good work and thanks for all you folks do, if ya'll ever have meet and greets or anything let me know, it would be a blast....
You are doing a great job creating content for UA-cam... you have come a long way from the days of JC 👍👍 great job always look forward to you and blue Gabe keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍
Great teaching point on using a drill to fasten the screws into the crab traps...really saves your arms! WOW, you can do anything Kelly! Loved the video & hope ya get lotza stone crabs!
Icee, Slushie, Freezee Cue, Polar Ice...too many to name. My son used to work for ICEE corp. fixing their Icee machines. He would get in trouble for saying slushie. He also worked on the Iced coffee machines at Starbucks. Quite a demand for those who can do it, but for the whole state of Oklahoma they had 4-5 techs pulling 10-16 hour days. Decent money, and never see your family. Special 6 week training was in Florida, imagine that. When he left them, he got calls from so many independents to start his own install/repair company. Great video! Kelly, Loved your manicure comments, you are so funny!
I said it once & i'll say it again....You two are a great Cpl...You both enjoy some of the same things... I wish you both the Very Best...I enjoy both channels...I hunt but don't fish quite as much as you..I'm land locked so to speak...W.Ky.. But i can always watch you guys fish and feel like i'm there..So Thank you BOTH... Looking forward to see how the traps Do...
Well done Kelly....You made this little detail very interesting . I was waiting to hear a "chicken" comment from Gabe.....so funny! Anxious to see your catch.
Y’all work work well as far as I am concerned you two can’t do anything wrong shearing yourselves and Family is the greatest ministry any can share!! I haven’t many of yours or Gabes or deermeat for dinner. GOD bless!
kelly there is foam {Sika Pro Select Fence Post Mix 33 oz ]you could use too. it is sold at ACE hardware. works great for things like this. sure it foams up but if you keep it under control it seals the bottom well. put pea gravel in it when you pour it in. it will be lighter and still seal. Trap will settle like a concrete on because of pea gravel mixed with foam.
Great vid Kelly, with all the different kind of baits you put in the traps you are going to have stone crabs and no telling what else fighting to get into them, good luck.
this was really cool!. im in detroit, and we dont trap anything like this, but, im moving my family to FL summer of 22 and im hoping to get into the vast resources FL has to offer. this helps me get an idea of what im in for. i hope you do more of these
@kellyyoung well... here i am, revisiting 2 years later as a florida resident, AND ive got my stoner traps on order! Came back for a refresher on how to build em! Thanks so much! Youre a part of what inspired me to move down here.
Their was so many times while you were assembling those traps that I was waiting for Gabe to bust out with a "that's what she said".. and it never happened!! Gabe you let us down lol.. great video Kelly keep them up 🤙🏽
Kelly awesome video of how to make your own stone crab basket with help from bluegabe hopefully when you start pulling them there will be some huge stone crabs in your new basket cant wait to see the next video . Please both of you stay safe.😀😀👍👍❤❤
I am amazed to see that there isn't a bunch of people commenting about Kelly saying "you can use a little oil to lube it up and get it in". I am pleased to see that was not the case which makes my comment pointing it out a little weird, but hopefully the comment section stays mature. Great job with the boxes though.
Just a hint when spray painting styrfoam, you might want to paint it with wood glue first or non-soluble Elmers white glue as that will seal and protect the foam. Think of it as a primer, after it drys the aerosol chemical shouldn't be an issue :). Great vid as always!
Kelly love the videos as always. But I didn't notice you showing anything about needing license and registration number for your traps, and how you get your number for free and how they need to be on each trap...keep up the Great work girl !
Omg I just don't understand how someone so beautiful and with such a body can exist on top of that so talented thanks for the tips I will do this hope to get lots of crabs
Hey KY! were setting up our stone crab traps this week! Got them from Marathon, just wondering how much rope you used for each trap? Thank ya! Keep em' coming!! :)
Slurppy? haven't done that for decades. You can mix pearlite (used in potting soil mix) in with the concrete to lighten it some, but it's kinda expensive. Those look like some great durable pots. Would be cool to have an RF alarm on the pot so it transmits a signal if it's pulled above water. Maybe an exploding die pack if you don't quickly deactivate, lol.
That quik dry concrete does leach a lot of chemicals when it drying. Seasoning the traps is a good idea. Good luck on your stone crab catching! Damn good eating! Why didn't Gabe get a set also? We use to build traps out of plastic milk boxes. They were not as nice as the ones you built but they were cheap! LOL Nice "how to" video Kell.
Please consider if a lighter weight is desired core a 12 inch diameter thru the concrete to save 8-9 pounds. Required will be (2) 1/2 inch thick X 12 inch diameter styrofoam or plywood disks, stack the disks to drill a center hole for an alignment feature. Place the first disk in the center of the trap, fill with concrete top it's thickness. Place the wire as shown, place the second disk on the wire, align with a screw/bolt suitable to the drilled hole and continue to apply the remaining concrete being sure it is locked under the side flanges. (If wood is chosen a disk should have 1 or several 1/2 inch holes to punch out the other disk after the concrete has cured. The driven punch should be smaller than the square of the mesh. If many traps are to be constructed a 15 degree angle (draft) should be on the disk edge for release to reuse-care to have the smaller disk face diameters contacting the mesh. The center holes can be the lathe center to file the tapers using a hand drill)
Love ❤️ the video you are so awesome at what you do I like to DIY‘s Kelly you and Gabe work well together I see the love 💕 in your guys eyes love ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ I can’t wait till I see you catch them crabs 🦀 love ❤️ from Ohio Irene

I enjoy Bluegabe and Kelly Young videos. Awesome content for outdoors and water. Love to feel the chemistry of Gabe and Kelly. Long live.

Blue Gabe you are one lucky man to find someone who loves doing what you love and the same thing goes for Kelly Young to keep up the good work y'all
One suggestion I would make is use a bright color on your buoys so boats can see them clearly which will prevent them from running over them
“Something to lube it up to get it in easier” 😂 that’s actually what she said lmao. Love the comedy and vids. Good luck on the catch
IT IS GREAT KELLY,THAKS FOR THE ATTENTION.GOOD LUCK!!!@
LOL the same.

Great instructional video. Placing the wire reinforcement in the concrete bottom panels is a very good idea.

Just like that...hungry ⚓🤙😎
Here in the NW we call them slurpees. Love the craft project to go crabbing!
Hey Kelly, your "little shovel" is actually called a "trowel" usually used for gardening or planting flowers.
Please consider if a lighter weight is desired core a 12 inch diameter thru the concrete to save 8-9 pounds.
