  • In today's video Rob discusses how you can increase your power and rev rate by adding a subtle elbow bend into your game. Although power is not necessary in bowling, it is important to aid in pin carry and miss room on the lanes. If you have any questions, comments or want us to make a video about other aspects of the bowling game, then please leave a comment and subscribe to the channel!

    One critical point that you are missing about bending the elbow is this, The reason that the pros bend the elbow is so that they can stay under the ball longer while simultaneously letting their thumb pressure release earlier. this is the real secret to getting more revolutions on the ball. The earlier you release the thumb pressure the faster the hand can snap through the ball (yo yo release). Again this is very difficult to do but if you really insist on going down this path then the way you train yourself how to do this is stand at the foul line in your finish position take the thumb out of the ball swing with a bent elbow and try to stay under the ball longer and eventually you may start to learn how to snap through the ball. If you can develop this release then you will have more versatility in your game, You can play deeper angels when you want to hook the ball more or hook the ball less with a more straight arm release, This is how it's done. Best of luck

      Exactly. The power is not from the elbow.. the power is the swing and legs and core, the elbow is the leverage to generate revolutions.. the elbow uncorking - if anything, reduces the speed and power.. doing it well is to generate a lot of revs while minimizing the loss of power/ speed

      You got a point there. The most important thing for me at this time is that I just found this out last night during practice and it worked awesomely to increase my rev rate. And this video just validated it for me today. Thanks buddy.

    The release is all about FEEL. Glad you made an effort to really communicate that.

      Feel is incredibly important and doesn’t get talked about enough. You can practice a proper release over and over but if the feel isn’t there then it’s going to be tough to through truly quality shots

    Came across this video, and the one where you talk about staying inside the ball, and I realize, that’s Spins Bowl/Twin Star in Kent, OH. Local content. Good videos. Nice to see bowling videos from guys who, like me, don’t have the 450-500 rev rate. Keep it up!

    I use to repeat this before I tour my bicep. I also had other bowlers tell me I’m using to much muscle. So I started practicing a free arm swing today but can never find the flat spot or get back under the ball. I feel as if I’m going too have a free arm swing I give up on generating any true revs /power. I’m always on top of the ball and can’t figure it out. 😡 Frustration has been over the moon

      You have to drop your shoulder and bend the knee to get under the ball, when you finally get it right, the ball actually feels weightless through the flat spot, because you aren't lifting the ball to bend the elbow, but bending down with the shoulder and knee to get the elbow to bend to get behind the momentum of the ball.

      Lowering the torso after the backswing peaks allows you to get you hand behind and under the ball.... because a relaxed arm can move faster than a ball will fall. Then you are just redirecting the balls energy and not pushing it.

      Yeah remember when you’re swing is an actual effortless pendulum that’s when you can generate a ton of power and revs which destroys the pins

    Good video. It's kind of frustrating when I hear people around my area advising new bowlers to keep their arm completely straight and villainize a bent elbow. It would save them a lot of headache in the future if these old ideas would go away. I'm still trying to work on it in my game to this day because of how I was taught when I was younger

      I believe you have to stop your upper arm and gravity will take care of the bending. I saw this explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/YHgYpPxP4mo/v-deo.html

    Would the bend still apply for two hangers?

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, although it’s really for different reasons. One handers bend the elbow for the sake of getting their hand more under the ball. Two handers can naturally do this a lot easier than one handers because they don’t have a thumb in the ball. This is why two handers naturally create more power. It’s all in hand position at release

    When I think I am keeping my hand inside I sometimes push my ball out right (I’m right handed) any tips to keep the path straighter and still keep hand inside?

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +1

      This is an issue I’ve started having myself. Especially with house shots where you can miss by a lot. There are a few drills or things you can focus on to improve this which I’ve tried that have worked to some decent degree. Firstly, you should probably get someone to record yourself to see just how far you push the ball right. Sometimes, it’s not even as bad as you might think. Secondly, if you’re talking about your swing path, focus on pushing the ball more in front of you instead of away from your body. It might feel like you’re gonna be pushing the ball to the left but trust me, you most likely aren’t. Lastly, we will be making another video going over this same thing with the swing path, and projection of the ball. I’m not sure when it will be out, but I’ll be able to go much more in depth in the video than I can in the comments. Thank you for questions :)

      @Average At Best Another good piece of advice is to get in front of a mirror and practice the setup and push away to see if you're getting it in line. I did that a lot, along with recording my shots to get my swing in line when I was younger.

    Does this translate over to 2 handed

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +1

      Yes. The whole reason you naturally generate more power and revs from two handed is because your hand is naturally going to be more under the ball and your elbow slightly bent. “Snapping” the ball off your hand also creates revs and it’s much easier to do that without a thumb in the ball

  • @pc574
    @pc574 Рік тому

    Bending the elbow at the release point will reduce power, as you are not hitting THROUGH the ball, but can make balls hook earlier

    I'm sorry, my friend, but your power is not generated by your arm. It's generated by your legs.
