- President Obama Awards the Presidential Medal of Freedom | President Obama is finishing out his second term by honoring some superstars from the worlds of film, TV, sports and music.Robert DeNiro, Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Redford and Bruce Springsteen are among the big names who'll receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, on Nov. 22 at the White House. Cicely Tyson, Diana Ross, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan are also among the 21 medal recipients, as are Bill and Melinda Gates, sports broadcaster Vin Scully, and "Saturday Night Live" creator and producer Lorne Michaels.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to people who have "made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

progress in dealing with climate change, bringing in clean energy sources, workplace protections, healthcare availability for poor Americans, taxation of the richest among us ,gay rights, women's rights, international relations (making friends, not enemies), improving America's image in the world, international trade... not an exhaustive list, but just off the top of my head. And I'm just reporting, he has said that climate change is a hoax, that regulations should be scrapped, taxes on the top earners lowered, trade should not be free but "fair" (yeah, but who decides what's fair?), and so on.

MrZep420 If anybody claims that Obama had no effect on the saving of the U.S. Auto Industry they either have to be dumb or blind. The bailouts he allocated to American auto companies, as well as the restructuring of GM and Chrysler, gave auto companies the lift they needed to pull themselves out of the economic crisis they were facing. The auto industry in 2008 vs. the auto Industry in 2016 are polar opposites and Obama should get the credit he deserves for that. And by the way recent news reports show that Trump is on track to have added over a trillion dollars to the deficit by 2020 and he's not even halfway through his first term. Absolutely hypocritical for Republicans to complain about Obama's deficit spending when the current administration is spending even more. It's true that the economy is doing well under Trump, but I think we all can see that it's much harder to create a fantastic economy when you start your presidency during the middle of one of the worst recessions in our history like President Obama did. Not to mention, the guy's gonna ruin all the economic growth we are seeing with his ill advised trade war that's killing our farmers. If you or anyone else wants to say that the economy didn't improve substantially during Obama's presidency as compared to where it was in 2008, then you're just lying or ignorant of the facts.

The GOP caucus also forced them to eliminate the caps on drug costs that had been in the bill, which were intended to limit excess profits....The two provisions destroyed any chance that it would help bring health care costs down....I fault him for accepting the compromise that was passed because it had no chance of providing the improvements that were intended. That was more about him not having the leverage get it passed without giving them what they wanted. . You could characterize him as pathetic I suppose for getting relatively little done , but much of that is because the GOP actively worked to ensure that nothing would accomplished, regardless of whether it might be a good thing for the people.. The GOP tactics did work, but are in essence, a betrayal of their nation and their position .....and compared to this horror show that Trump is running, Obama looks better all the time... Even Bush looks better in retrospect...I never would have thought I would say that
