I was 5 when GI Joe first hit the stores. Loved em. This brought back a lotta memories. Thank you for letting us old guys visit a simpler time when our biggest worry was if we were getting a space capsule for Christmas.
Bought them in the sixties. Lost them when I “grew up”. Bought them again starting 30+ years ago. Garage sales and shows mostly. They are toys that bring fun memories.
I may not be as old as some of the people here relishing the memories of these toys, but over the winter ive been collecting a few, and i cant wait to form those memories, and cherish them for years to come
With the international GI Joes, I’ll never forget getting my Canadian Commando. My Dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Artillery, and at that time they still wore the WW2 battle dress and Brodie helmets. I thought he looked just like my Dad going to work. The attention to detail was amazing.
I had most of the Adventure Team era GI Joe . My mother gave them away to the Toys For Tots in my mid teens. I'm 56 now and i would still play with all of this. And the items donated are worth a fortune on ebay.
I had the GI Joe foot locker, Army, Frogman, Deep Diver, and Space capsule and suit. My sister sold them all at a Garage Sale while I was serving in the Marine Corps.
DAMN! I'm 59 years old. I used to have the space capsule and the GI Joe command post plus I used to have the 12" figures with the Kung Fu grip and the facial hair.
I was born in 1963. GI Joe was the toy to have around 1970, along with Matchbox cars and BB guns. I dreamed about having some of the stuff portrayed in this video, however, we didn’t have the money for it. Dad did get me a GI Joe finally and it was the best thing ever ! Man it would have been so cool to have the footlocker and the Jeep ! I did get a BB gun at eight and a .22 rifle at twelve so that was cool. Right of passage in the family along with hefty firearms safety instruction. Still have that .22 after all these years !
Imagine if we all had kept our baseball cards we use to put on our bicycle spokes or scale and/or flip them against someone else!! I would have had a few bucks in the bank if I did save them.
I'm from 1963 too. I saved money for Action man - quiet the same as Gi Joe - and had 5 of them at the end. Had a lot of fun, they're all still with me, and I'm updating them, repairing, buying new stuff on fairs and design new tools and weapons for them, printing them on my 3D printers... All that fun for so long!
Of course no GI Joe went to the moon & NASA claims to be a separate entity of the military, but when you're a kid, its those childhood memories we confuse as adults to invent wild conspiracy theories. Such as the claim we have secret moon bases. And i guess they're all run by GI Joe in someones imagination.
Yeah, these were the toys to have growing up in the 60's. When outside we played "war" as everybody had an air rifle or cap gun... a precursor to paintball.
I still have all of my action men. I started to collect new uniform sets and bits at fairs. I use Blender, TinkerCad and my 3D printers to design new parts, weapons and helmets for them.
I sell on eBay and just bought a collection. The detail on these early figures is amazing. The spaceman has 2 working zippers and it is hard to see how they could be sewn at such a small size. It is fun to see the ads showing them going into the water and that might be why finding these in good condition is hard.
I collected the modern version as a kid during the 80’s; however, during that time I remember buying an odd GI Joe such as these from a flea market: it was the space capsule edition, like new and in box.
My parents never bought me any GI Joes because dolls were for girls & tricking me into playing with dolls simply because they represented men at war was another issue they had a problem with. So i had to run next door & play with Barbie & Ken instead- teaching me the values of how to be a gold digger & a fake boyfriend. Thanks Hasbro.
I got the army guy for my birthday when these first came out. My rank was General because I liked that name. Over a few years I got several more plus a ton of gear through trades and as presents. I think my favorite one overall aesthetically was the Navy blue crackerjacks with the white belt, Garand, and accoutrements. Very sharp looking military uniform. We had neighborhood get togethers with 4 or 5 of us playing GI Joe complete with battles. Even had a solemn burial of one tattered army GI. Weeks later, we realized we had not reterived that guy but try as we did we could not locate him. I am sure one day someone will uncover the body in the treeline behind their house. Hopefully not for another 50 years - to make it a century.
I had a white GI Joe with kung fu grip and and Black GI Jimbo.....they got along with each other and we had many adventures in playland. Every Christmas I got more GI Joe accessories. Miss those toys that had to do with killing and destroying things.
In the UK we got Action Man. As far as I can tell identical to this, but a 1/4 or less of the choice. It was expensive, but the catalogues were free, if you could find them. I spent more time playing in my head with stuff I couldn't afford than with the stuff I had; but I never even saw Aussie, British or Japanese outfits!
There were Action Man British military figures beyond the first "Soldiers of the World" figure. Action Man at first was just rebranded G.I. Joe but after a while they started doing their own figures that were available only in the UK for British kids.
Thanks so much for posting these great commercials, I can still remember seeing these on our BnW tv and went nuts when I saw them lol great warm memories for sure , I still get a little tickle when I see these !👍👍🎅🎅😊😊
Me and my stepbrothers could've used that GI Joe with the fire extinguisher and the flame retardant suit. We used to set our GI Joes on fire and blow bits off them with firecrackers, sometimes when they were nailed or tied to a tree. It was the mid 70s, so we were going for that whole Nam vibe.
I did the same with my brother. Firecracker landmines! We made many 1 legged vets playing. We also made parachutes and threw them off the roof of our house and from tops of trees. Yes, we were fearless boys. GREAT TIMES. Come July 4th, some unlucky Joes got a ride on a big rocket . MUCH better than video games inside.
My mother told me they had G.I. JOE Action Figures in the world over 50 years ago because I haven’t seen these 11inch action figures in years & I only remember the ones from the early 80’s because they were then smaller plus many of them came with vehicles & bigger equipment because I had one of them over 35 years ago .
A neighbor back in the 70’s had a gi joe jeep but the brownish version we used to mix joes and Six million dollar man with it was huge he also had a chopper boy we had fun back then
Cool commercial I was born in the 70’s so I knew more the 6 million dollars man and Star wars then transformers he man and smaller joes what I really like about those joes is the details of their clothes ans accessories must have been fun playing with them
Ahh memories no wonder parents went broke I never had any growing up can’t recall why ??? But I had Big Jim and his camper and Big Jim & his rescue Rig and I had two Action Jackson’s one with dark blue uniform or coveralls and the other with Light blue coveralls I am trying to recall Action Jackson did not come with any accessories he afforded kids the use of their own imaginations but I teamed both A Js with Big Jim & Big Jake
When they showed the Let's Go Joe! game, I thought we need to upgrade it to the Let's Go Crandon game. All the boys in mt neighborhood had at least one Joe. The kid at the end of the street had a big pile of dirt in the back yard, That "hill" was the site of many a battle back then.
That's the thing, they were not for the most part that expensive. Your average Joe was about 5 bucks. However, The elaborate sets did get pricey for that time. Out of the dozens of Joe's I had, only one remains...had to hide it from my kids or I would have none.
I had one growing up, my dad said one or none, I took the one. My dad threw it away in 1970 along with most of my stuff when we moved from Cali back to Texas.
Introducing! GI Joe Ex Wife! With real alimony paybook. Feel the thrill of paying through the nose every month for your mistakes! And meet Larry, your Ex Wifes new boyfriend! he drives a Corvette and takes your kids to school in it!
i liked the nick magazine where they had a gi joe spoof called gastrointestinal joe and the doll would just eat you, your dog, all the food in your fridge, the family station wagon and the neighbor's lawn. supposedly not even the actual gi joe could defeat the doll. i need that kind of energy for my vore fursona.
Ahhh back when toys taught you how to do things the proper way, nowadays with today's woke military it would be GI Joe in red stiletto pump heels wearing a push-up bra, and as an added bonus you get the transgender action kit 🤦
Bullshit on that one; I've got a G.I. Joe that was made in the 2000's and it's a Navy Seal frogman (my second is a female G.I. Joe doll which is a combat nurse, circa the Vietnam War.) none of these are woke in any way, and you're just exaggerating things.
And look what Kenner did to GI-JOE, they turned it into a Marvel-ish Happy meal toy, so disgusting, they should have bring back the original classic back the way it was meant to be.
I was 5 when GI Joe first hit the stores. Loved em. This brought back a lotta memories. Thank you for letting us old guys visit a simpler time when our biggest worry was if we were getting a space capsule for Christmas.
You're so right sir!
Do you still have the original ?
Bought them in the sixties. Lost them when I “grew up”. Bought them again starting 30+ years ago. Garage sales and shows mostly. They are toys that bring fun memories.
Love my G.I. Joe! Still have them, all those years later.
I may not be as old as some of the people here relishing the memories of these toys, but over the winter ive been collecting a few, and i cant wait to form those memories, and cherish them for years to come
'Pleasant' memories because Joe got me through hard times.
I’m 16 and I collect these. I adore them more than anything else!!
I grew up in the 70s but I still had fun time playing these as they still making these large Joes in my Woolworth stores in NYC. Good times.
I like the slogan, " boy oh boy it's a hasbro toy!"
Brings back memories. I had a lot of those components. Think they could make that toy now, lol.
Brings back memories of my tallking G.I. Joe🙂
With the international GI Joes, I’ll never forget getting my Canadian Commando. My Dad was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Artillery, and at that time they still wore the WW2 battle dress and Brodie helmets. I thought he looked just like my Dad going to work. I am still buying GI Joes. Am collecting the classified series for my son.
Even the old advertisement for this toy is bad ass😎👍sound real
That took me to a happy place! I had the diving suit and the Astronaut and Capsule set. I wish I still had it.......
Move over there Spiky, I'll meet you in that happy place
Still have mine and my brothers in special footlockers my grandpa built for us. Guess that's what got me to collecting real uniforms.
This is gold, awesome footage
Glad you enjoyed it! Consider becoming a channel member ua-cam.com/video/ODBW3pVahUE/v-deo.html
I had most of the Adventure Team era GI Joe . My mother gave them away to the Toys For Tots in my mid teens. I'm 56 now and i would still play with all of this. And the items donated are worth a fortune on ebay.
When I was 8 years old, there was nothing I wanted more than the GI Joe Mercury capsules. I never got one.I am still distraught over that .
That is what eBay is for - to get all the toys you couldn't when you were a kid.
Didn't get one either, don't know why I didn't make one out of cardboard or something.
I had the GI Joe foot locker, Army, Frogman, Deep Diver, and Space capsule and suit. My sister sold them all at a Garage Sale while I was serving in the Marine Corps.
🤬🤬🤬
bad meanie sister
They've appreciated in value. Settle for her share of your parent's home.
I had JI Joe growingup in the early sixties i had the uniforms it was a real fun to play with i had a special bag to keep them in

1963 same here.. these toys are worth 10s of thousands as shown today

I HAD THE G I JOE THE PARAMEDIC I HAD HIM FOR A VERY LONG TIME HE WENT EVERYWHERE WITH ME

So true a friend of mine had him and the zippers are so small how they did that?
I collected the modern version as a kid during the 80’s; however, during that time I remember buying an odd GI Joe such as these from a flea market: it was the space capsule edition, like new and in box.
In the U.K. GI Joe was called Action Man.
LOL! My friend and I had GI-Joes and when playing we had the Joes KILL his sister's Barbie and Ken in various scenarios...
And Barbie cheated on Ken so many times...
I miss my 4 😭😭😭😭
I got the army guy for my birthday when these first came out. My rank was General because I liked that name. Over a few years I got several more plus a ton of gear through trades and as presents. That recoiless/spotlight is bitchin.
Yeah I have full of these action figure GI JIE toys by Hasbro from 1964--1975😊😊😊
I had a white GI Joe with kung fu grip and and Black GI Jimbo.....they got along with each other and we had many adventures in playland. Every Christmas I got more GI Joe accessories. Miss those toys that had to do with killing and destroying things.

By the end of the 60s, it went from foreign battlefields to Outward Bound experiences because... Well, 'Nam happened.
Thanks so much for posting these great commercials, I can still remember seeing these on our BnW tv and went nuts when I saw them lol great warm memories for sure , I still get a little tickle when I see these !👍👍🎅🎅😊😊
Feels like toys tried harder back then.
Well it was obvious that when GI Joe came to town on leave and meet up with Barbie, Ken was born....
I could still smell the plastic hats they wore
OH WOW I WISH I COULD JUST GO BACK AND BE 7 again and it’s 1968!!!
used to watch the commercial on TV. never got one , I asked for an easy bake oven , so i could have cake , i was starving.
Wow I forgot about the unlimited accessories hours of occupied time as a kid
Me and my stepbrothers could've used that GI Joe with the fire extinguisher and the flame retardant suit.

Good Advent Merry Christmas 🎄🕊😻
I was born in 1957, I had a few of these and other old cool toys. Wonder what some of that is worth today?
Got mine in 72!
Dang. This is way before G.I. Joe cartoon came out in the 80's.
Cool commercial I was born in the 70’s so I knew more the 6 million dollars man and Star wars then transformers he man and smaller joes what I really like about those joes is the details of their clothes ans accessories must have been fun playing with them
Some of these could be worth a few hundred Dollars used and thousands for figures still in the packaging.
BEST TOY EVER😁
Ahh memories no wonder parents went broke I never had any growing up can’t recall why ??? Ahhh big jim another fun toy

All the boys in mt neighborhood had at least one Joe. The kid at the end of the street had a big pile of dirt in the back yard, That "hill" was the site of many a battle back then.

Man, what a nice toys people had on the '60s (if yoy could afford them, seems expensive).

FIRST ONE had to be the Sea Sled ? Mine is at the bottom of Kissena Park lake in Queens ! String broke , glug , glug, glug ......
shit that looks like fun to play with now
Def the "STAPLE" Clothes.
I’ve already thought up at least 30 new figures/themes they could come up with based on our current world events
What I don't understand, is why Hasbro didn't make an enemy force for GiJoe, in the 60's
If you had a complete set of everything you could retire.
Yes sir!
I had most except for the foreign personnel. Still have it. Its the Tonka toys my mom gave away when I left for college.
Excelente vídeo
What about the G.I. Joe Disabled Combat Veteran set, complete with wheelchair and VA Ratings denial letter.
Now that i think about it how much are these bad boys going for on the collectors market?
A lot.
COBRA, RETREAT!!! RETREAT!!!
It wasnt into Cobra hit the scene is when shi* got real!
My friends had wealthy parents.
Oh man, no word's. 🙁
My German soldiers were found guilty of war crimes so we had to execute them with our BB guns.
Who the heck insured this stuff?
I had one growing up, my dad said one or none, I took the one. My dad threw it away in 1970 along with most of my stuff when we moved from Cali back to Texas.
I think when the war in Nam soured they switched to adventure team dudes.
After watching this, I regret I sold all my G I Joe gear . I did however make out like a bandit.
🤣🤣They are now worth their weight in gold...
*Any girls wanna play G.I. Joe and Barbie?*
After all he has a ten inch bazooka that really works.
I had 6 G.I. Joes and my sister had one Barbie...you still want to play?
we never really got GI Joe until the 70's here in Australia and then it was the bearded, sexually dubious looking one LOL
Introducing! GI Joe Ex Wife! With real alimony paybook. Feel the thrill of paying through the nose every month for your mistakes! And meet Larry, your Ex Wifes new boyfriend! he drives a Corvette and takes your kids to school in it!
