Saw the ORIGINAL "RISING" outfit at an outdoor show in Burbank on the "RISING" tour, sorry Zep fans, THAT was the greatest Hard Rock/Metal show I ever saw, and brother, I saw 'em ALL! NOBODY ever touched that level of dark brilliance, and I DO mean nobody!
This is a hidden gem. Thanks for sharing. Both Dio and Blackmore were great together. They only made 3 studio albums together, 2 with Cozy Powell. Whether it was Bain and Carey on Rising or Daisley and Stone on Long Live Rock and Roll, it was first class music. Dio went on to do great things with Sabbath and his solo career, but he was never closer to magic than his years with Rainbow. I met Dio several times back in the day and we literally talked for Hours about the Rainbow years, no matter what you might see in some on line interviews later, but Dio loved and appreciated his time in Rainbow, some of his best and most diverse vocals was in this time period. "Temple and the King, Rainbow Eyes." Show an entirely different aspect to his vocals. "The Shed, Sensitive to Light, Tarot Woman, Run with the Wolf" all exceptional Dio vocals and playing by Blackmore and Powell. Of course, the timeless classics such as "Stargazer, Gates of Babylon (shown on this video), Kill the King, Catch the Rainbow (Especially the Live Version)" Other live album classics: "Sixteenth Century Greensleves, Still I'm Sad, Mistreated (Dio singing this Purple classic was outstanding). The Dio years with Rainbow will always be some of my favorites from both Ronnie and Ritchie. They were a great writing team.
thank you for the great words and sharing your experience and love for Dio and Ritchie Blackmore in here. Keep up the good work and treasure these memories all around you for the next generations to come to the future....
I spoke with Mike Tramp about 8 years ago and he said that Richie on many occasions said he wished that he’d never replaced Ronnie. It was one of his biggest regrets, the rock world knows that Richie is a volatile head strong character. Why wouldn’t he be, the man’s an absolute genius. 🤘
You said everything I have experienced, felt, loved, and felt sorry for, throughout the years. You made me feel great to know others feel that way. I still hold Rainbow of Dio and Blackmore as the band that I love all they did, and yes, the magic and mystery are all above, around, and part of all they have done.
I took guitar lessons in 1970 because of Ritchie Blackmore. I had a Gibson Melody Maker and a 100 watt Custom Amp and needed to learn how to play this thing. Later I had a fuzz box and a Wah Wah pedal and jammed in my drummer friend's basement all through high school. Good times. Still play today at age 68. I bit toned down I might add.
OH HELL YES! I saw the Rainbow 'Down To Earth' tour at the Beacon in NYC back in the day! What an amazing band Rainbow was, in all it's incarnations! I'm 62, and still listening to this timeless music!
Looks like the crew set the bass amps on Richie's side and the Marshall's on Bob's side too. Either way it is awesome footage of some of my favorite musicians and a fantastic record.
Blackmore, Dio and Powell! For a while there in the 70s their music was everything to me. Lived, breathed and slept Rainbow. Loved everything they did. They were really different than the other heavy bands. They had this mystical aura about them. When they replaced Dio with Bonnet i died a slow death. And after Cozy left i couldn't stomach them anymore. But the early stuff was magical. Thanks for this upload. Awesome!
I did too. Rainbow was really the only great hard rock band from ‘76-‘78. Well, Judas Priest was great too, but I wasn’t aware of them until Unleashed In The East came out.. All the early ‘70s bands were fading. Rainbow was all I had too. Rising, On Stage and Long Live Rock and Roll were on heavy rotation! (So was early Kiss, but let’s not tell anyone I said that). 😂
After they went mainstream pop rock with Joe Lynn Turner it was over for me. Bonnet was a good singer, I just wish they would have stuck to the classic rock sound they had become famous for
Rainbow was rock on an intellectual level, as opposed to basic blues-based rock, yet it often had a swing and a beat that kept you tapping yer foot. Blackmore is as good a composer as he is a guitar player
Kirshner was one the few who showed artists like this some love. In the disco era no less! Always treated Sabbath well too. That was a rare thing back then!!
Yes and no. It depends on "when you are referring that the vocals were lively recorded"! So....they were recorded live in may of 1978 together with the video. This video, however is aired little bit after....in november, 1978. This is not the BONUS of the "Live in Munchen 1977 DVD"...listen to "Long live Rock'N'Roll" in here and you will hear at the end clapping and cheering....while on the DVD is erased and is fading away. Therefore....they are 2 different versions and/or edits. Again....there are 3 versions: the may 1978 version, the october 1978 version, and the november 1978 (the last being the one I posted it in here). I hope this clarifies the dilemma. I have updated the description...please read it through when you can and if you have any questions ask me.

...and boy, if ANY one embodied the spirit of cutting edge rock'n'roll, it was Don Kirshner. His look, his hair, his hip lingo, the way he dressed...you ROCK, Don.
Do not forget the 3 couldnt do it on their own , Bob Daisley did a HUGHE contribution on Bass AND music wise overall in this Line up, Dave Stone on Keyboards ,although He never played such a Hughe role as Bob Daisley did .
Amazing stuff. In just 2 years, Ronnie would meet up with the remaining members of Black Sabbath and make arguably the most iconic Black Sabbath album... Heaven and Hell,
Rainbow 🌈 was a great group. 👍 This is a fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. Ronnie James DIO grew up just 30 mins from me in Cortland New York. I remember back when he played in ELF
I saw this group live twice on the Long Live Rock n Roll tour and the record had already been out for a few months. I was so disappointed that they only played LLRNR but was ecstatic to see them play most of On Stage. I went on to see them with Graham and at least a half dozen times with the later line ups. Always great shows but these were the most memorable.
This is amazingly good for Rainbow fans when Dio was the lead singer. I'm 56 and not ashamed to say that Rainbow with Dio was my favourite ever band ! However . . . It's sad that Ronnie was treated so poorly by Ritchie, and this video proves it. 2 key points: I. Still referred to as Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow AND II. Cozy Powell said he was very well paid by Ritchie. Bob Daisley said,' Cozy was always buying fast cars including Ferrari's. '
If I would have seen this when I was 8 years old I would have shit my pants. I was a huge Kiss and Alice Cooper fan like alot of kids of the 70's generation I discovered Ronnie James Dio on the Heaven and Hell album. After seeing Dio with Viv on the Sacred Heart tour(my third concert experience the first being the reformed Deep Purple and the second being Heart) I backtracked and thoroughly immersed myself in that era of Rainbow. My first time I saw Rainbow was the Can't Happen Here video on MTV. What an impact that had on the heavy metal/hard rock music. Cozy Powell Ritchie and Ronnie were all excellent musicians, driven and ambitious, still young enough and writing the rulebook as they went along.
AWSOME, was only 10 so never got to see them at their peak! Wish they made more, yet then we wouldn't have the Dio Sabbath era if they did. So guess it worked out best for we the fans. Thanks for this 🤘
Hi, I'm Don Kirshner, a talentless businessman. Allow me to tack my name onto this live music program and introduce these rock bands like a CEO kicking off a boring work conference.
great clip to view! is this the same as the PROMO videos that came out?? Correction. Its not same...but i thought was by the outfits. Very cool vintage DIO era Rainbow! Right before he left the band. THis was one of the first Hard Rock albums i ever heard. My friends older brother had this album, and we listened to it in 1978. I was 14. Still love this album.

Все именно так , они были великолепны , и Коззи уже нет и Ронни ушел , дай Бог здоровья Ритчи и его семье !!!

Blackmore’s biggest project was Deep Purple but his best was almost certainly early Rainbow. So volatile and exciting.
Best Rainbow lineup
i think so too. the Canadian keyboardist really rocks....great feel and emotions

Its a pity that only the vocals are live though but it is nice to hear the great Dio live and he does a great job as always.
I thought this sounded canned!
Indeed ! And Cozy never had the extra concert toms live in his set up
Yeah this was just the studio recording because Ritchie Blackmore is not that disciplined when he plays live
Looks like the crew set the bass amps on Richie's side and the Marshall's on Bob's side too. Either way it is awesome footage of some of my favorite musicians and a fantastic record.
very interesting! Dio really earning his money then

The very golden era of Rainbow!

THE BEST BAND EVER .
Musicianship at the absolute highest level! They were untouchable.
Thank you very much for this gold.

Such a great band ! I used to love that album "On Stage".. Blackmore, Dio, Powell - damn ! Those guys didn't mess around !
Blackmore is quite underrated and overlooked as a rock guitarist..thanks for sharing 👍
He is?!?!
"Underrated and overlooked" LMFAO. You clowns never quit.
No. No, he most definitely is not underrated and overlooked. What a load of bollocks.
Underrated????
No he's not. He's in a different zone then many others. He's always been in my top ten since 1969
Thanks for sharing this flashback memory in time. Saw this very tour in San Francisco (Winterland), during my early teen years. Epic.
Amazing! Have never seen this clip before. What a band!!!
Wonderful - great pics of Bob Daisley
Dio era Rainbow was brilliant by far the best music should have been massive
Love the fact that he refused to mime. Simply the best. 🤘
Hells ya!. Ronnie knew he could deliver the goods anytime, anywhere.

Yes it sucks for Ronnie, but we got one of the greatest Albums ever came from it. Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell,

Its a shame this is mostly mimed. Surprised Ritchie would tolerate it, actually
True that. The only live part of this performance was Dio's vocals.
Blackmore was THE rock guitarist in those days. Listen to most any song he played on and you can hear his magic. He made that guitar sing.
