Hi Viv. Thanks for taking us to Hobbie Lobbie with you. I love your yard! We are in Alaska and have two feet of snow in the yard. It is getting warmer here with the longer days; water dripping off the roof during the day. I opened the doors and the windows today to get fresh air and sunshine into the house while I mopped the floors.😎 My husband remarked on how clean and fresh everything smelled.😍 It's been a long winter, but the birds, rabbits and a squirrel keep us entertained. Yesterday while I was sewing I spyed a lynx out our window. I guess he was trying to sneak up on the snowshoe hares that come into the yard to snack on the bird seed. Watch out bunnies! I tot I saw a puttie tat! Anyway, love your chats and shares. Alaska out for now.
Vivmom your basic video skills are terrific, you are motivating and encouraging. Your raw honesty is refreshing. You my favourite vlogger and I really enjoy sewing while you chat away from the other side of the world.

Just bought 10 McCalls patterns on sale at Hobby Lobby. Busy sewing today because WE CAN'T GO ANYWHERE WITH THE FEAR OF CATCHING CORONAVIRUS!!!! I might just get a whole new wardrobe done in the next month. Love your backyard. Everything is so green and we had snow in Iowa today. We can wear ruffles no matter what age. Sew on!

About Simplicity 9112, I agree with you on the sarong wraparound pants. Not my thing, either. My mom would have said, "Why put more layers of fabric in a place that doesn't need it?" LOL, she was so good at figuring out patterns. I miss her and your videos help me not to miss her as much, even though you are lots younger. Thanks for the pattern first-looks!

Loved those patters, especially the blouse with the flutter sleeve in pink on the last book. I may have to get that! There were several I liked! Oh, and that little girl’s dress! How cute was that! But my granddaughter is 14! 😢 I miss those years when she was little with all the cutesy fabrics! I had trouble not buying everything I saw! Ha!

Hi from Australia! Thank you for the shout out for getting the sales of patterns! We can access the sales on-line - $3.99AU to $5.99AU...... BUT the postage is horrendous! I bought some patterns that the total came to ~$200 with postage. This still worked out cheaper than buying them on sale here!! (and I'd worked an extra shift, so decided to splurge on me!). Still loving your videos!! Keep up the good work!
Jane Peirce the postage is such a problem. I would be glad to buy patterns for a pattern buddy, but once the post is paid it would not amount to any savings.

Hi Vivionmom I love to sew, I been sewing since was 14 years old and I live in Ontario. Were I live only has one material store, with a very limited patterns selection they dont carry any simplicity, New Look, or Kike Sew. Not too many sheep patterns, it's sheeper to buy already made garments so I am happy to see you are able to find all of those deals happy sewing
Those two McCall's remind me of what we wore in the late 70's, early 80's!

I'm loving that McCalls blouse in the book next to the one with the fabric you have. I never think to go to our Hobby Lobby to look for patterns or fabric. I bought some a couple years back, and I haven't revisited. When all of the craziness is out of the way, I have to go back. I loved browsing the books with you.
That longer shirt dress was cute, but I don't like how it gaps at the waist where it buttons! I noticed that right away. Thanks for showing us all the new patterns!! XO

Hi Viv, I got my grandsons shirt made, I’m thinking about making a few summer tops. I was disappointed when you were browsing through the Catalogs, a few new patterns, but, not much selections. I thought the McCall’s collection was young but the Butterick collection was designed for us (over 50). Your McCall’s picks are great! Hopefully “early spring” is limited to a few pattern and we’ll see more as the year progresses.

I agree...In Canada here, the cheapest big three patterns are about $8.00 Canadian (1/2 price is usually the lowest discount. Full price usually $16-24. So I have been downloading a lot of indie patterns.
Joanne Entwistle I do the same thing, as I live in Ontario. I also order New Look patterns from Amazon, but only if they are “add-ons” or marked down (usually around $8).

I don't recall seeing some of those New Look patterns today. Must have been the older book at JoAnn. Thank you for showing us through the book. I agree, there are ruffles everywhere! I'm not really the ruffle type. I'm a lot older than you are. I do love them though. Interesting that the Big 4 are owned by a company in the UK. Sure hope the sale prices continue for us and absolutely for the other countries too. Looking forward to your latest FMF make!
Hello, I so much enjoy your videos and I love your fabrics and patterns. I noticed Joann will be having a sale on Butterick this coming weekend. Do you like Butterick patterns? I don't recall you purchasing or mentioning them much. I find they do run small so you will need to adjust size before you cut the pattern. I like their styles very much, classic and clean lines. Keep up the great work, you are a joy.
Fun video. I really like the blue skirt with pleats on one side (not sure if these hips of mine could pull it off though). There just wasn't alot for me to get excited about. McCalls was disappointing for me. I like a ruffle once in awhile but everything was ruffled! Stay safe all.
I went to Hobby Lobby also and bought a lot of the new McCalls patterns. I just love the store. Their prices on fabrics and notions are the best. Thanks Vivmom, It was you actually, who told me through your videos that Hobby Lobby sells fabric and patterns.I did not know! Also I do like the ruffles,but that short skirt with two ruffles looks great, but I dont know if Im too old. Im fiftiish!

I’d be happy if our stores carried Simplicity period, even better if we had those great sales. I just love ruffles on skirts. Some of the new McCall’s patterns are appealing to me, I actually like that jumpsuit, lol. There are a few dresses I’d like to get, will just have to wait til next year to make them.

Wow, Barbara, even adults? I asked about the clothes once and the clerk told me rather vaguely “oh they all come from corporate.” I did clarify that they’re all sewn by someone and she said yes. I’ve definitely seen HL fabrics used in New Look and Simplicity.

Sewing janey many years ago I bought one of the sample dresses I think it was at Hancocks. This was back when the staff actually made them. It wa the greatest dress in a teal washable wool jersey blend. It was my go to dress for probably ten years. I actually bought , and still have, the pattern, I should pull it out and make.
Your backyard looks familiar...we used to live in townhouse complex in Springfield called Charlestown with those same Georgetown-Style back yards...including the steps down to the gate 😊
I like the New Look pants patterns, both of them. I do prefer a fitted pant to an elastic waist.
I love many of those patterns..I made some of them in the 80s I think. I love that blouse or dress you are wearing and the color of it. I am waiting on what you decide for the wedding cocktail dress for Italy.. Praying all the health problems clear up by then! If plans change I hope you make that dress anyway!💃💗👍 ps: I wish that dress was size 6 for my youngest granddaughter!

I was at Joann's today and picked up McCalls 7390, 7658, and 7531 ( hoping I can make this last one a TNT pattern). I also picked up Simplicity 8792 and 8172, not new collection and New Look R10072 ( not sure of the actual number). I did not see the New Look catalog but saw things I would like as you went through it, so thanks for that.

I also went to JOANN this past weekend, no new books 📖 for 2020, I bought few patterns but not for spring, great buy at $1.99 each for simplicity patterns , of course I didn’t get all the one I wanted, I asked a clerk, she said, they do have the 2020 but they just didn’t have time to change the books and add the 2020 patterns because they are so busy.

That little girls dress was precious. Patterns have tough time exciting me these days. I like the older patterns, guess Im getting old.
My favorite was the blue skirt that looked like it had pleats on one side with slit on the other. Here in Ohio we had a nice Snow today .lol And I am disappointed that No March Maddness but I get it. Retired Nurse here.

I already have many picked out. Unfortunately my husband is sick taking chemo’s so I had to leave my hospital job. I know how concerned he is when I go into a store but perhaps run in and out and grab the goods!!! Looking forward to your makes if you can. Are the basketball games canceled for you and brad??? Another very enjoyable video, and since I’m currently taking an unplanned staycation (ahem!), I am hoping to get a lot of sewing done once I’ve completed my early spring cleaning. 😄😄😄 I have a question for you though ... something I’ve been wanting to ask for a while, and I’m sure you’ve probably talked about it before, but I missed it. Can't tell whether it's a top or dress but love the colors in what you're wearing. New look patterns nice but not really wow. I missed the pattern sale. Oh well, I got a bunch I need to use anyway. Got 2 of the vintage patterns my sister has that I'm anxious to do. She has couple boxes full if you are interested - $1 each. Most are size 12. Lots of 60s thru 80s.
I was in my Joann's today and same thing - they had a few new Simplicity on display, but the drawers were not stocked with the new releases. Same with the new McCall's. Not there yet. I've found that my Hobby Lobby usually has them as soon as they are released.
HL is a class act compared to Joann! It’s just irritating and Joann never seems to redeem itself by having some kind of great surprise waiting. Well, I guess stumbling into the retro Simplicity giftware at 70% off during the holidays was great, but nothing is standardized with them and I didn’t see a sale like that at the other two Joanns I visited then. You are so right. Joann is always a disappointment when it comes to patterns. They never have the patterns in stock. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to Hobby Lobby.
There were no new patterns at the Joann near me for the sale this weekend. Spring collections are not out yet. I think they have them at reg price (30% off) for a month+ before running a sale.
Hi vivmom, I have a question. Would it be good to use scuba dubble knit to make a hoodie? I have never seen scuba knit. I'm sorry to hear what's going on in your house. Keep sewing that makes you happy. I love the patterns. I love summer dresses. They are comfortable to wear in the summer.
A little known secret...JoAnn won't always put out the new patterns if they're on sale, even if they have them. So get to know your staff there and they'll hook you up. But you didn't hear this from me! ;)
I'm still looking for the 8657 pattern. No Joanns nearby😢 Amazon wants too much for theirs and Walmart drawer is missing it. I will not give up!!

I saw that McCall's peasant skirt and absolutely love the view you mentioned. I think I have one too similar to it but it's beautiful 🤔 I've been generally underwhelmed by the recent releases. I've been trying to up my skill level and all the new ones seem to be trying to bring in new sewers. Nothing wrong with that of course but they just aren't what I'm looking for right now. I'm waiting for pintucks to make a comeback. I saw the sale is running for simplicity and have been tempted to go over there but thinking I may need to wait a while. Things are getting....a little scary here. Just going to rummage through my stash and work on UFOs for the forseeable future I think. 😐

Actually, you were looking at a McCalls spring 2020 book. Maybe you don't have that book? Oh well, I guess I don't NEED it. Thank you for responding. In that particular book, time stamp was around 1325. But sew sew sew! You are a sweet, funny woman! One more question. How do you keep your husband from freaking out over your love of patterns and fabric? ❤
At 13:25 I am definitely in the New Look catalog. I have several catalogs and would be happy to look up any patterns for you, provided they’re not just released - my counter books aren’t that current. As far as my wild collecting of fabrics and patterns, I must say even I, myself, am shocked at it all, but Brad is cool as a cucumber. We have an unspoken agreement: I don’t kvetch about his bicycling stuff and he doesn’t kvetch about my sewing stuff. So far, so good!😄
I wasn't able to get the new Spring McCalls at My JoAnns either, which didn't surprise me. I agree that McCalls are designing for the young sewists, but i found a few i liked (just turned 50). I also like the Simplicity pants for spring, love the flat fronts!
Mine was opposite. Hobby Lobby had no new ones and Joann had all three new ones, McCall’s, Simplicity, and Butterick. Yeah!!!
Joann's is really hit or miss. The one closest to me takes forever to get new patterns. If I drive 30 minutes farther, that Joann always has the new stuff.
Thank you for us outside the states not having the 1.99 pattern make you sad. We feel it's unfair.

Simplicity is my favourite patterns ever..they do not sell them in Canada any more boo..Honestly i feel McCall's patterns always fall a little off...i love the striped shirt also looks classy and one that would look lovely in many different patterns..Keep up the great videos great job once again...

Nice patterns, will be good to see them sewn. The volume was consistent throughout. I'm sewing some clothes for my great grand children, fiddly but pressing on with it.
