Ladies, it was so fun watching you together. So playful, interesting, and entertaining. My favourite fabric is the mustard/goldenrod with the dainty pokadot. Candace you make a wonderful sidekick for your Mom, so hilarious when Viv is behind the fabric or peaking out the side and you are playing at Price is Right guiding the audience with your lovely arms and hands to what's on display. It is amazing that you still retain your sense of humor after working a 12 hour shift. Can't help but wonder if you work in medicine.

I can sympathize with you getting a load of fabric on the plane. I retired last summer, then took a 14 day quilt show-fabric buying trip with my best friend...had to buy a huge old suitcase from Goodwill to get all my purchases home...$30 on the airplane. Worth it !!!Enjoyed seeing your daughter.
I have to say I love the way Candace thinks. Wrapping the fabric around each of you was a brilliant idea. You could have gone back and gotten another book! I so wish that I could send you pics of the incredible vintage patterns I found here in Idaho, one was a snowmobile suit for men. You could have made it for your husband for Christmas! I also found some really nice knits while thrifting patterns. I agree with another post, Candace does look a lot like your husband. She is very pretty and funny too! You look so warm and toasty there, it is going to be 19 degrees Fahrenheit here in Idaho tonight! Nice tan by the way, so jealous!

I’ve called her my fashion consultant before, but sometimes I override her recommendations. She’s nice enough to concede when it works! I wonder if she liked that colorblocked pineapple tunic I made? I saw them at a thrift store and thought of you and your passion for patterns especially the one of the snowmobile suit. It was very retro but I could you updating it and making is a pair fun funky pair of pj’s for your husband maybe for Christmas morning. Always love your videos! God bless you and your family during the Christmas season! Also, based on your fabric haul from Hobby Lobby, I hopped on that bus and got right over there and even got some that had not even been taken out of the plastic wrap! Yes, I am one of those people but, I ask first!!!!

Oh! The counter books! When I was a little girl, my grandmother gave me a page or two from
one she had! I bought a couple at an antique store recently. McCalls Aug 1959, McCalls Jan 1964, Simplicity Christmas 1963. So much fun to look through! I might try to find some of the patterns online! You've inspired me, Viv!

When I was young "a little girl" there were no photos in the counter books. They were all drawings and I made paper dolls out of them. I love your videos. My daughter is a year older and loves to sew. I use to sew professionally, as did my grandmother. My daughter has ADD and can't sew a lick, but bless her heart she hasn't given up trying. She has a great imagination but can't figure the pattern directions out. They just mess her up. She gets mad at me cause I can't help her. (I wind up doing it for her!
Which doesn't help her a bit) I didn't know you can call the pattern company and get help! I'll pass that along to her. You have wonderful taste in pattern and fabric selection. You make beautiful clothes!! Happy to have found your channel. I LOVE fabric. Am a fabric aholic (Big time)

So funny I too loved the pattern books, i looked at them for hours and still can,,, I really enjoy your choice of materials I’m not sure of myself on how to sew on different fabrics besides cotton .. our minds stay young but our bodies don’t yes I love your choices to hide the middle and beyond ,,,, keep them coming❤️

The throwback high waist bell bottoms are risky. I just kept thinking that IF they do work, they’d be comfortable with that high waist. We shall see!

Hi Jo Marie!👋 You and Lorraine had a similar wavelength with the curtains - and I think that is so creative! The colors match perfectly! Thanks for pointing it out. I’m curious to try making potholders. I’ll need to find some Insul Brite as some kind folks have told me. But probably any quilting cotton would be fine for the outer fabric, and the sky’s the limit there! Fun!😄We made it home with all my rolled fabric. Whew, what a relief!

We had a ball, and I didn’t have to cook or wash any dishes for one week solid!!😄December will be a no-to-nearly-no sewing month for me. I feel too compromised with Christmas on the horizon...but January should rock & roll!👍

I'm with you on loving the 'counter books.' I thought I was the only one... lol. I used to ask for them and got them free, when the new ones came out. They said they just throw them away. Then at some point, they started to charge a dollar, or whatever. I too, could look at them and drool over making things, for hours. I had kids then that I sewed for... What fun. Love seeing your great daughter... How fun that she agreed to show off all your great finds with you after working all day... Hi Candace. Hope you have a safe flight. Amen to loving the counter books!! What is it about them...well, now for me it’s tied to happy memories when I was a kid, whiling away the hours with my fashion books.👍Speaking of throwing things away, Julie @ Hobby Lobby told me that when they pull patterns as mandated by Big 4, they put the stacks of unused patterns in the dumpster and pour a bottle of bleach over them. “We had divers,” she explained. I get it, but it also seems like such a waste!! Oh well. That’s life in the retail world.😭Thank you for appreciating Candace’s appearance after her long day. She was a real sport for me, and she says, “Mom, the people who watch you are so sweet and say the nicest things!” Of course I agree, and I feel very fortunate to know you all.😄💕
When I was a child my sister worked in a fabric store and she brought them home when the new ones came out because they threw them away so they let her have them. It was a fantasy book for me to enjoy when she wasn't home.

I must tell you that, the video you did last month about buying vintage patterns online was GREAT! i followed that video and I was able to buy almost all the patterns that my mother, sister, and I used growing up in the 60's. I am now waiting for them to arrive in the mail. I can't wait! I have all my fabric and notions ready to get started. And----I am so happy !! Love your haul, for the pot holders make sure you use the insul brite or something like that, it reflects the heat away and you won't get burned. You can't use regular batting. Have fun and it was great seeing Candace again! You have a wonderful family🙂❤

Hi my lovely ladies, I was so excited to see you all again. I like all of your fabrics and patterns. My Hobby Lobby here in Colorado have their counter books for sale too. I remember my mom would buy them from Fabric King and Cloth World back in the day and I loved looking through them too. They would write your name and phone number on the spine of the book and call you when they were getting ready for the new season. Also the caftan pattern was very cute. I just noticed I missed your other video. Going to watch it now! Have a safe trip home.

I did find some of my mom’s patterns packed away. I found some she made me when I was a toddler! Advance patterns. I’m knocking on the door of 67 years of age.
I have a little story about patterns. My Dad was a Holsum Bread Salesmen. We had a store where my mom bought patterns & material named Wacker’s 5 & 10. It’s a very small town where I am from. Mr. Thomas knew how much my mom sewed for our family. At the end of seasons when they would get rid of patterns and the pattern books he would give the books to whoever ask for them. In fact women use to right their names on the spine & he would hold for them. I loved looking at those books and I would show my mom what I liked. I also would draw glasses on the ladies in the pictures and hats & jewelry. Such simple entertainment! She could take patterns and mix and match them. She was a perfectionist seamstress! Anyway, I digress a lot....Mr. Thomas would tell my Dad , Charlie, he was putting patterns out. So in the wee hours as my Dad made his rounds to deliver bread he always drive down that alley to deliver to cafes through the back doors and would pass the Wacker’s dumpster. The owner, Mr. Thomas had all the patterns in boxes for my Dad to bring to my mom. It was like Christmas! We would sit in the floor and keep the ones that fit us and give others to our neighbors & friends. Mr. Thomas had to take the covers off to send back to the company.
As I told you before my mom passed away at 87 in 2017. She still had boxes of patterns in her garage. They were all thrown away and that’s another story. Not to my liking. Now that I found your channel I so wish I could see those patterns that are gone now. I can’t imagine what treasures were there. I do enjoy your channel. I’m just sorry I did not get my Mom’s talent for sewing.

Oh my gosh I sooo remember my visit to my aunts in California in 1997🤣I went on an adventure by myself and found a fabulous material outlet of designer fabrics that were very inexpensive 👏🏻I bought sooo much I did not know how I’d get it back to Ohio! My uncle boxed it up(a huge box) and sent it on the plane. That was when you were allowed unlimited luggage. I told my husband to pick us up with our truck😆I sooo relate to your sewing urges. Oh and I learned on another trip to California 🤪ALWAYS take an empty suitcase 🎯oh I also think I look like a frog in photos 🤦🏼♀️😆

So glad the weather held up for your down here! We had a few chilly nights, but still beautiful. I was at Hobby Lobby today (during my lunch hour...and half maybe...LOL) and picked up some patterns. I got a few yards of fabric, then I saw remnants in the clearance area, so I had to get those too. I really hope you can get a counter book at your HL; I didn't know they were for sale. I might have picked up the one I saw for $4.00!!! Another day! Have fun sewing! Candace is lovely!

Candace, trust your mom’s choice in patterns. She has a very good eye at seeing the finished pattern. Glad you two get to spend quality time together! I think when I was young, we could ‘checkout ‘ a pattern book after 4pm and bring it back. I think it was at Minnesota Fabrics.

Aww thanks so much, Julie!💕I love those daughter moments dearly. Candace gave me confidence that we could get it all home and we did! Including a fragile Christmas ornament that will be a gift. Our bags weighed a ton but by golly everything is present and accounted for! Yippee!! (Now just when am I supposed to sew the robe and sleep shorts? I’m so far behind I’m getting nervous.)

Things are fine, but losing that first week in December set me back. I feel soooo behind. I’m not that behind; maybe it’s more perception than reality. But I won’t be sewing in December, sob! So much for handmade gifts. Bummer. Oh well, no time to complain. I’ll check back with you later and I’m going to put a note on my fridge so I don’t forget.👍

That was cute. I say the caftan would make an really nice beach coverup, assuming the right fabric. A great coverup for the beach bar, cafe, outdoor lunch, etc after a day at the beach. And of course you want to be covered when you run through the hotel lobby.

I never knew this and I’ve never seen them at my HL in Virginia. (Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.) I don’t think I can make my way to the sewing machine this month...too much going on...but I’ll never say never.👍
I’m a new viewer and if a person doesn’t get excited to sew after your videos....then they aren’t watching enough! Love your personality and your excitement of your craft. The carryon bag was stuffed like a sausage, and I even had things crammed into my purse. But all’s well that ends well. How nice of you to come over from Joy’s channel. conservativetothecor yes it is! I was born and raised in SW Florida. I sure do miss that white powder sand and walks on the beach at sunset. Funny....most of the tourists go to the beach in summer at or before noon, and fry. We always went at about 4 pm and stayed till sundown

The beautiful thing about potholders, is they don't take long at all and you don't really need a pattern, just imagination. I wouldn't complain if I were headed to a warm location either!😉 I live in CA between SF and Sac. not real cold, but I don't do cold well. Glad to know your purchases made it and I can't wait to see what you whip up.

Hi Laura! I hope you enjoy New Look. I guess it’s a subsidiary of Simplicity. (That almost sounds like a tongue twister.) NL can have the maddeningly terse instructions at times, but the clothing designs are great. We got all of my purchases home! My suitcase was 1 lb under the checked limit, and the carryon bag was stuffed to the brim. Oh what a relief to get home. Now to wash and store it all - and go through the giant Fashion Fabrics Club package that was waiting for me. But first - Christmas!!😄👍Thank you for your lovely compliments.

How fun to see your daughter again. My daughter who is now 25 (I can’t believe it), also likes to look through all the patterns and fabrics with me, especially the vintage ones. I love to pass on the dreamy creativity that I got from my Mom. I sure do miss her but feel like she’s with me when I help my daughter sew something cool. Does Candace sew?

Hi Viv, I love your videos and passion. I have great news if your looking for a bargain! The same patterns you purchase can also be purchased at Wal-Mart for a lot less. Most are around $5 unlike your A8003 sew easy (which I also have) for $.97. I go online and screenshot then buy them at the grocery store. Also McCall has a membership and then there patterns are just $3-$6 every time! Next time you go for your eggs or bread, swing by the craft department and see for yourself. Be prepared to pick your jaw off the floor. Happy sewing🌞
Hi Andrea - yes, I’m all for Walmart’s sewing department and make great use of it. Their Simplicity patterns can’t match $1.99, though, like Hobby Lobby and Joann sales. The Club BMV on the website does offer some savings but again not like HL & J. And there’s shipping to consider there. I’m grateful for any source of sewing supplies, because they all make it possible to enjoy this craft that I love so much!😄👍

It helped me see that public schools are overwhelmed and may not be the best choice for kids...... I can't wait to get started on my new patterns... HL runs the Sewology sales often. Check their weekly ad online and I bet it’ll come around again before you know it.
