  • Here is a great tip that shows senior golfers how to get more distance. If you are a senior golfer getting more distance is priority one. This tip shows you how to know if you are too tight and how to loosen up so you get more clubhead speed which results in more distance.
    The great majority of golfers that come to me for lessons are senior golfers. I have literally seen it all but one thing keeps cropping up in most senior golf swings. I show you exactly what it is in this tip so if you do this you are simple hitting the ball with your arms using brute force. This will never get you more clubhead speed.
    For senior golfers to get more clubhead speed you need to swing looser not harder. So once you know that you are all locked up do the drill I show in this tip. If you can do this you will start to loosen your arms because you cannot do this with tight arms. Loosen up your arms then you will start to see more distance on all of your shots.

    I'm 84 years old, and am a recent subscriber. Most UA-cam golf instructional videos usually screw up my game more than it's already screwed up, mainly because I wind up thinking too much instead of just swinging. What I love about your instructions is that you keep it so simple, without overwhelming us with technical stuff. Best of all, IT WORKS. Thank you so much for putting some joy back in my game.

      Most of my students are easy 60 and above. They all do the same thing. That is just whacking away hoping it goes longer one day. That day never comes cause as we get older we don't get stronger. Need to be loose. Don't have to be strong to be loose. Something that is looser swings faster than something that is tighter. You need to try it and trust that this will work. If you arms and wrists are super loose you would then need to use your body which is what all seniors don't do. Follow this:

    My father and I just discovered your channel and we're thrilled. Your videos are excellent. My father (76 years old, 6'3" and 215 pounds) and I were playing golf Saturday afternoon. I was standing behind him and noticed when he took his practice swing his upper and lower body finished in the same position they were at address with his hands and club passing his body. I realized he was giving up speed and power as he was not turning his hips and getting a full finish. I encouraged him to get his hips turned through and finish with his chest/belt buckle toward the target. He immediately started hitting his drives better and farther. He outdrove the twosome we were playing with on the last hole. We realized we were on to something. My father searched "hip turn" on UA-cam and found your channel. We're now both hooked. Great content. I have forwarded this video to him too. We look forward to watching many more of your videos.

    Paul your explanations are so relatable and the remedies are achievable with practice. I had no idea how much tension or rigidity I had in my arms, particularly with the driver until I started watching your material. I was absolutely finishing with driver pointing to the sky, I knew it but didn’t have a solution until now. Thank you

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому +3

      Thanks. I try to keep everything simple and in terms everyone can understand. Most people are just hitting with arms. Start loosening up in the down and through swing. It is super loose so you allow the weight of the club to pull your arms out fully just past impact. If you get that it will wrap around to the follow through I show. You need to work on this immediately and daily in practice swings. That locked up swing is really costing you.

      @@paulwilsongolf This really resonated with me, Paul, and that was because of its simplicity.
      I'm 62 - an endurance athlete, 6'2", 190 lbs and spend time in the gym. I recently retired and decided to take up golf after about a 15 year layoff from when I used to play maybe 20 times a year. I never committed to the game and typically shot (and shoot) ~100. My swing speed is 85 mph on a good day.
      I'd love to improve and I know that I have to significantly bump up my swing speed. I'll double back here with the results - and I know that there's no quick cure.
      Cheers.

You should be low 80's right now. Easy to do in 2 years. Just need to do daily practice swings doing better positions and moves. So stay focused. Keep watching. Think hinge and rehinge then coil and uncoil. In simple terms those are the components.

    Paul, played a round yesterday after a full week of practicing/drilling the Body Swing everyday. Hit a few 20 yard longer drives, wrist were to active or didn’t turn enough on two drives that hooked left the others were down the middle. My iron play was much improved, straight and no fade, in fact the biggest problem I had was distance control, irons were flying to the back of the green and a couple went over. Need to adjust my distances now and work on putting. Great results. Do you have a video on up hill/down hill lies? Thank you.

    I have a question for you. I’m in my mid sixties and I used to play a lot of golf 20 years ago and have just gotten back to playing again. I kind of struggled getting back to flush contact but on just a whim I started turning my club face to about 11: 45 at address and am really striking it solid but I have now a little draw. Your thoughts on what I should be doing to correct it, if anything since I’m hitting it solid.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому +2

      This is a band aid. It may help a little now but it will fall apart in the future. I would think your draw is actually a pull hook. Set up square and you will see.
      I have taught countless people in your situation who took a break and are getting back into it. Anyone in this situation will hit with their arms when they get back into golf. This is due to human nature. I talk about it in this tip:
      ua-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/v-deo.html
      So you need to set up with the face square. Start rolling it and purposely hooking it. You do that with these tips. This can be a few minutes or a few practice sessions or even daily practice swings at home:
      ua-cam.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/p4vASmOzkPg/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/N-nGM6yN790/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/v-deo.html
      Once you get that you then switch to lower body to power the swing and turn your arms off. Find a downswing trigger to hit the ball. Has to be something waist down. You hit the top the apply your trigger to hit the shot:
      Trigger: ua-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/v-deo.html

      Well, you don't have to be strong to be loose. So, you are exactly who needs to be following my teachings. To get the power back you need to be working on fire the legs and hips. So be sure to loose up the arms. Then start firing the lower body way quicker than what you are. It is all in the hips. You will get the distance back in no time then into the future you will be able to maintain it. At 62 you are still young enough to easily hit it 250. Start with the wrists. • @zero2herogolf
      @zero2herogolf Рік тому

      The brain will always try avoid pain. If the brain subconsciously thinks there's a chance for injury it will alter the conscious decision. Arms get pulled toward the center of the body because that's where the most support is. So try this, stand up, extend both arms fully, straight out in front of you. Stretch your shoulders and back a little to get those arms as far from the body as you can. Hold that position for 10-15 seconds. What you'll probably notice is, it takes effort to hold them out there like that. The brain doesn't like that. It wants to avoid effort. So try it again with a light broom stick, arms fully extended, but this time SLOWLY rotate towards a balance finished, rear foot should get up on its toes, hips turning towards the target, and raise those fully extended arms above your head as you turn, and hold that for 10 seconds. Repeat it 20 times. The brain has to be convinced, that these moves are safe. Then grab a club and do it again. Remember this drill is NOT a golf swing, so don't fold the arms at the elbow at any time, keep them fully extended. This will accelerate convincing the brain, it's safe to have the arms far from the body. Be sure to take video while you do this. Then you can see where and when your body doesn't like supporting certain positions. Over time this will provide better flexibility and add a little strength to muscles you haven't been using before.

      Well, if your arms were turned off you would not have a chicken wing. A chicken wing had you contracting the arm muscles pulling the club closer. If your arms were turned off the mass (club) would full extend your arms. Your arms are only so long. So if the weight of the club pulled your arms out then you would be maximizing your arc width. So I would say you may think you are loosening and as you get to impact you are locking back up. I have quit a few tips on this now. Keep in mind you are setting the backswing. You are turning the arms off coming down and through.

      Agree. This is human nature. I have been taking about this for years. I have this in both of my books. It is trying to protect your body. It want you to be comfortable and in balance. It affects every aspect of your swing and you learning the swing yet no one is talking about it (but me).

      This is because you are hitting with your arms. The harder you hit the tighter you get the slower the club moves. I have tips on this:

      ua-cam.com/video/8docjX_sxUk/v-deo.html

      Then hit fire your legs and hips to power the swing NOT your hands and arms.

    I'm 80 years old and my right shoulder does not point at target on my finish swing. What can I do to make that happen?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому

      You need to be sure you are not getting tight which is hampering the follow through. Most people tighten up as they hit the ball so they are tight going to the follow through. So you need to loosen the arms in the down and through swing. Then go to the follow through as I suggest. I don't need the shoulder pointing at the target but the clubshaft perpendicular to the target line. Think about the shaft not the shoulder. Do daily practice swings and see how far you can go around. This should loosen you up. Then you know how far around you can go and end at this point into the future. If you are tight you will chop off the follow through.

      @paulwilsongolf  2 місяці тому

      Well, you need to go through the best you can which means to a point you can repeat it. I have some students swing through and feel the club touch the left lat muscle (shoulder area) instead of going all the way around. Give this a try so you get to a consistent ending point.

    I understand the point that we need to follow through but many of us lock up because of pain (wrist, knee, etc.), not just the fact we may be getting weaker.

      @@paulwilsongolf Actually it’s more than that. Had surgery in one shoulder 3 years ago & now I might need the same in my other. Lots arthritis going on 😞 Maybe I should’ve mentioned that. But your tip is actually spot on & was already working on it but trying to force it more than just let it happen naturally. Been playing on & off for over 40 years. Still off single figures but having to rely on my short game & putting even more now. 😉 👍

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому +1

      With those issues you really have to be as loose as possible. The swing is a violent move. Do this with tight muscles or arthritis and it could definitely hurt. So be super loose. Allow the hinging and rehinging to get the clubhead speed.
