I like the circa 2005- 2010 Dimarzio petrucci pups. These are probably similar.

Not at all. I own this set and I'd say the closest thing to it would be a Super 3 bridge and Super 2 neck. They are extremely high output with a chainsaw crunch midrange and they absolutely scream. The Petrucci pups are more EQ'd for his style. I think they're all great in their own way. I own the Steve's Special which I put on a couple strats. Terrific pup. Works great with very high gain because of the rolled back mids. Lots of clarity. But I wouldn't recommend it for low gain amps. That's not where it shines. Petrucci used the Steve's Special before the Crunch Lab, which was the first official Petrucci pup. He also used Tone Zones.

There's another pickup I wanted to recommend. The Steve's Special. Nothing to do with Vai or Morse, but rather named for Steve Blucher, DiMarzio's world renown pickup designer. It's a very interesting design, as it's light on mids, but has a great, crunchy, clear low end and terrific high end. It's designed for clarity with high gain rigs. I've been using it for a long time and have it on a Schecter. I just got a Boss GT-1, which is the smaller version of the GT-100, and I absolutely love it. The Special works great with the ultra-high gain settings. There is zero mud. Probably the clearest high output pickup I've ever used. Amazing coil split tones as well, and great in parallel. I always pair it with an Air Norton. The Special is the sort of pickup that knows when to let the amp do the talking. It doesn't fight the amp. When you have mids running into mids you end up with mud and lose a lot of dynamics. The Special is just a wonder of a design. Petrucci used it for a long time between using the Tone Zone and D-Sonic.

@@TexasGuitarist Hey, have you tried the neck DP205 in the bridge position with high gain and can you make a vid of it?

@@zAvAvAz well, maybe I'll just switch the pickups and see what happens. We'll take it from there. I won't do that right away but maybe when I change my strings next.
