  • Actual static flow test of 4 injectors:
    Stock truck 2 hole cap
    Stock truck 4 hole cap
    Stock truck decapped
    eBay 80#
    Very interesting results validating the flow of the modified decapped injector and the 80#
    We verified the reason our test shows the 80# flowed 104# was our Test pressure of 58# was higher than the 42# the seller shows.

    You dont need to buy cc'ed beakers, you can use a mixing cup for cooking , transfer the amount over to clear containers and mark the cc amounts on those containers. This should be done before you run the injectors anyway to make sure you dont have a weak injector, unless you like holes in a piston.

      I’m running decapped 25.2# truck injectors that flow +- 74# in my Turbo 4.8 LS. If/when I upgrade to more boost I’ll decap a set of the “Flexfuel” injectors which flow way more like 88# or something crazy.

    It makes sense that both the 2 hole and 4 hole injectors would be the same. If you needed a replacement you may get either one from the store and if the flow was different then that cylinder would be richer or leaner than the rest. Causing other issues in performance.
    It would be interesting to test a bunch of decapped injectors to see how consistently they flowed over a large group

      FSM for 02 Silverado warns that, when replacing individual injector(s), you have to match p/n and/or reference old injector visually. So it seems that, while what injector came stock could vary either from location or specific date of manufacture, it still is necessary (or, advised)

    On a 5.3 v8 vortex, would it run good with 22psi injectors ?

    • @HeadFlowInc
      @HeadFlowInc  4 роки тому

      Antoine Taylor 22# injectors are small, it would need to be a stock low rpm type build. Non-performance
      The 24.8# and 25.2# truck injectors should be fairly easy to find depending on where you live.
      Injector scale in the tune is also a concern. JD

      lol you talk like we knew what we were doing! This is a cheap shade tree see if it works setup. I’m not sure what Richard used for fluid but it may have been denatured alcohol. Maybe 🤔
      Richard ended up buying one of the eBay fuel injector flow/cleaning benches and even it is difficult to get consistent flow numbers from. We decapped a set of the truck 25.2# injectors and flowed them on the eBay bench, it took several sets to end up with a decently matched set of 74# injectors. Honestly, we had one all star performer injector that was a few # higher I stuck it in cylinder #7 since it’s the one who’s famous for injury! lol JD

      D&D Operations The flex fuel decapped flow like 85-88#
      The important thing is to flow as many injectors as it takes to make sure they all flow the same.
      I wouldn’t just decap and install without flowing.

      I’m currently changing to the Walbro 535 lph e85 pump so I’ll see what the factory preset is then go from there.

    A couple of things or maybe three- what test fluid are you using if that’s gasoline I have some safety concerns the orifice plate doesn’t matter what how many holes are the rating of injectors a reading of the injector or yams use your first plate for aiming the fuel stream and fuel administration I be concerned about the capping injectors you increase the flow at wide-open by double now the turn down ratio’s gonna be messed up at idle I be concerned that you’re going to be sloppy Richard I’ll in a few idle for extended periods of time possibly you’re going to be making oil in the crankcase because fuels going to be puking into the crankcase

    • @koldone78
      @koldone78 6 років тому +1

      Sorry accidentally posted while I was editing -the orifice plate is used to aim the fuel stream and for fuel atomization. The flow rating is the flow I regardless of the number of holes in the plate. Removing the orifice plate will increase your WOT flow but will also increase your minimum achievable idle flow... so potentially you will be sloppy rich at idle. Concerns are running quality at idle and possibly pushing gasoline into your oil “making oil”.

      Wayne Kolden Here’s the absolute truth, we haven’t touched this make shift test stand since making this video. The fluid we were using iirc was denatured alcohol.
      I want to share both our experience, our friends experience, and several people online running Boosted combos with de capped injectors.
      1. It usually takes more than one set of injectors, to get reconditioned/flowed by Eric Derr injector service to assemble a full set. We’ve found there’s generally a big variance in the output of the GM injectors, normally people send in at least 2 sets so Eric can flow them all and hand select the best 16.
      2. It is proven, all the Myths about spray pattern, angle, path etc literally make no difference in operation.
      3. Go to Badluckgarage Robert has a great video debunking the hysteria surrounding the decapped injectors. Robert shows on his own Turbo C10 how it’s tuned for start, idle, part throttle cruise and WOT.
      Check out Doug at Goodenoughgarage as he’s made videos showing his success with decapped injectors.
      Matt Happel “Sloppy Mechanics” has more than validated the validity of running decapped injectors in moderate boosted applications from 400-600 rwhp. Even in his wife Jamie’s daily driver truck.
      Richard ended up trying to run the EBay 80# injectors but they were junk, couldn’t be tuned, so he ended up buying a set of the Holley 83# and they responded much better to tuning with his Holley Dominator EFI. I admit we are novice or below trying to tune, we’re both just learning as we go. 👍
      I truly appreciate your feedback, many people are curious yet hesitant on the decapped subject. As for me, when I install the Turbo on my “Turd-no” Blazer I’ll be running a set of decapped. 🤞

      HeadFlowInc I can’t argue with success if it’s working for you that’s all it matters . Of course if we’re having fun during the journey that’s a bonus.

    • @HeadFlowInc
      @HeadFlowInc  6 років тому

      Wayne Kolden I appreciate your input, it generates the curiosity to learn. If I was going to exceed ~500 rwhp I’d recommend going with a quality name brand injector.
      As my build unfolds, in “Theory” 🤞 I should be able to get really close to 500 whp at 10# Boost.
      First stage is the 4.8 NA build looking for 300-330 rwhp. Then install the Turbo setup! 👍😁

    • @HeadFlowInc

      Kt Carroll There are companies who sell tunes like Nelson Racing Engines and more. Even having a basic tune where they speed up your Power Enrichment and demanded AFR at Wide open throttle will make a big difference in power.
      The factory tune is only set for lean efficiency plus they delay the power Enrichment to above 4000 rpms at 90%+ Throttle sometimes even adding a few seconds! 😳👎.

I got a question maybe you can help on my 2000 5.3 fuel rail is from the 2000 but I got a wiring harness from a 2002 suburban 5.3 flex fuel engine with the 411 PCM Do you know if the flex fuel stock injectors will fit the 2000 fuel rail? The injectors connectors(2002 wiring harness) are definitely different from the 2000 injectors the 2000 injectors are part #25323974 Any help would be grateful

    • @HeadFlowInc

      HeadFlowInc the harness is the same except the injector connectors are bigger on the 2002 harness not the tiny connectors on the 2000 non flex fuel I also got the pcm 411 off the 2002 so hopefully the pcm will be set up for flex fuel injectors. This is all according to the vin off the 2002 suburban

    • @HeadFlowInc
      @HeadFlowInc  5 років тому

      Kt Carroll No, the flex fuel is 33-35# injector at factory fuel pressure. Unless you decap the injector.
      I think he is confusing injector flow rate and fuel pressure.

    • @HeadFlowInc

      After we made the video we went to ebay, the flow difference was a simple difference in the fuel pressure. Our test was made using the factory LS return style fuel rail rated at 58-62# of fuel pressure. After reading the ebay listing the knock off 80# injectors were flowed at only 42# of fuel pressure. By simply increasing the fuel pressure from 42# to 58# bumped the flow from 80# to 104# per hour or 835cc to 1092cc per minute. Thanks for the feedback hope this helps! JD

      Not true once you tune the fuel table to the new higher flow rate. Check out my friend on the badluckgarage concerning the tuning of the decapped injectors.
      The issue people tried to focus on is the change from a fan pattern to a pencil spray pattern. Hint: all Large flow injectors use the pencil spray pattern. 🤔
      You can tune the cold start, idle, part throttle cruise, and WOT power in the same way as any other injector. Don’t fall for the negative Nelleys trying to ruin a good idea because it’s inexpensive. 👍

    Not a accurate test do to four different injectors

    • @HeadFlowInc
      @HeadFlowInc  7 років тому +1

      Zane Wilson Why would you feel the test isn't consistent? Could you elaborate?
      Here's the setup: Single common fuel rail, fed by a Walbro 255L fuel pump, fuel pressure regulated to set test pressure. Even the voltage to the pump is monitored and controlled.
      Even if you add up the flow of all 4 injectors it wouldn't come anywhere near the volume and flow provided.
      There's no way flowing different sized injectors on the same fuel rail significantly affects any single injector flow. If the injector size affected the individual flow, the the injector farthest from the fuel supply would always flow less regardless of size. This isn't how it works. JD
