FR! If I wouldn’t feel that gross sensation in my stomach and the pressure in my head I would absolutely love roller coasters
For me it's the anticipation and nervousness before the ride that scares me the most. It all goes away during the ride itself. That's why I hate long lines cause it makes me more nervous. I just want it over and done with.
I rarely get this now but I can definitely relate. The build up is easily the worst part of any new coaster 👍
I agree. My first coaster was the beast, it wasn’t necessarily fun but I wasn’t scared. It just wasn’t fun because I hurt my back lol

I second this. I went on my first inverted coaster a few months back (shockwave at drayton manor) and I was very lucky because there was literally no queue. We did it the second day too, and there was about a 20 minute wait, and I was more scared the second time than the first. Queues KILL ME. Thats why I'm a bit nervous about going to alton towers in a few days because I know the queues can get hella long there. However its on a school inset day on Friday so I should be fine. lol

@@TylerPlays-ec5cc nemesis is epic, I was petrified but you never even vaguely leave your seat, it doesn't make you dizzy at all and you hardly even know youre upside down because of science stuff, it's just like an extra spice to rollercoasters. and your legs dangling makes it even more secure than stand up/sit down ones

Me but Baron 1898. Dive coaster are all about the drops. If you want to conquer heights and falling, they seem to work quite well.

I wouldn’t say it’s a fear factor for me and roller coasters. Rather more of an intimidation factor that keeps me off of coasters. They designed to be intimidating, it’s part of the charm of them, but I will take a look at them and my mind will trick me into refusing to go on it. I am planning on forcing myself to get over the intimidation of them later this year by going to Busch Gardens Tampa and going on the coasters there, specifically Iron Gwazi when it opens.

When I went to bush gardens for the first time I was terrified of Shiekra but at the end of the day I ended up binge riding it along with cheetah hunt it really helped as before I basically only went to Disney and universal

This was helpful. We just went to Hershey park last weekend and I only rode like 2 “big rides” and by the time I got home I felt like shit about not getting on the others. I spent a good hour sobbing after getting off wild cat and that was practically a baby ride to real enthusiasts. My issue is that I honest to god don’t enjoy myself. The wait in line is awful, hearing the screams of other ppl make me more nervous, finally getting on it and having to shut my eyes and clutch the bars for dear life isn’t fun; and by the time it’s over I’m crying and wanna go home 😂 (true story I begged my fiancé with tears in my eyes to go home after one ride) I wanna get to the point where I start having fun. My fiancé LOVES every ride. He never chickens out, he has honest to god fun, throws his arms in the air and is ready to ride it again after we get off. I just never have fun, like I’m not satisfied because my fear makes it impossible to see the joy in it. We’re trying Dorney Park in July and I’m gonna take this video into serious consideration when looking up at all these rides I’m afraid of and hopefully by the end of the trip I’ll have fun 😂
You need to channel that fear into excitement! 🙂👍 Also make the most of the fear, as it goes away very quickly when you overcome it 🤣 I miss the adrenaline buzz of doing something that physically scares me, only get this on drop towers nowadays

Luckily, I’ve never done that.

I remember only seeing pictures of it online thinking that looks cool, I got to Alton towers thought the smiler looked epic, walked past saw oblivion and just wanted to throw up thinking not a chance.
Rode some other coasters and went on it 4 times a row without hesitation

I had a similar phobia throughout my younger years 👍 not that I condone it... But I think alcohol solved my fear 🤣

god same this is why rollercoasters have always been so hard for me to go on, especially ones with lots of inversions. i dont have a weak stomach but still have panic attacks before going on coasters sometimes because im terrified of throwing up on or after the ride or seeing someone else do so. but yesterday with the help of some awesome friends i went on some pretty big coasters for the first time and i LOVED it and didn't feel nauseous at all so i think i'm making progress and will hopefully be able to go on bigger rides without being so scared!
I don't know anyone else who has a similar story but I was terrified of going on saw the ride, when I went to Thorpe Park, the only ride I didn't want to go on was their not-too-tall gerstlauer euro fighter. I stood outside the entrance bobbing up and down trying to convince myself to go into the razor-wire-topped que-line. It was just not knowing what would happen in that rusty old warehouse. I looked at a kid much younger than me ahead in the queue, and thought "if he can do it, so can I" I went on it and bloody loved it. Although I wasn't prepared for the next time I rode it in the second carriage...

One thing that helped my sister face her fears was taking it slow and working her way up the ladder. Start with the smallest coaster at the park and go from there. Take time in between coasters for more chill family rides that you know you’ll enjoy. Go with a group that’s a mix of both coaster lovers and people who sit coasters out. Just be sure that the friends you bring will encourage you, not pressure you. Most importantly enjoy your trip to the park!

For me, one ride wasn't enough. I spent two days at Alton Towers specifically to get over my fear of coasters. Each new one would scare me to death in the queue line.
If you know you'd LIKE to enjoy riding them, stick with it.
And don't be surprised if you still don't enjoy every last coaster. I still hate Spinball Whizzer.

So happy you’ve done a video on this subject! I have been that person who stands looking up at the ride pondering 🤔 thinking the worst, thinking how high it is, how steep the drop is (oblivion to be exact) and thinking how “meaty” the track looks and even thinking what if a bolt comes loose etc etc.. basically tormenting my own self! BUT I wanted to ride them. I wanted to conquer the fear. In 2013, I plucked up the courage to go on oblivion and I was pooing myself! I’m small so I felt like the seats swallowed me and when the drop came i closed my eyes and scrunched my face up into my sisters arm. THAT Fear of falling down! 😫 BUT I am determined to face it head on & not shut my eyes and embrace that feeling in my stomach! I love going upside down which is why the smiler is one of my favourites!! I will be going back on oblivion when I go in spring! I’ll face it head on 😂🙏🏼💪🏼

Here in the Netherlands in our flagship park, Efteling, we have a dive coaster as well. Baron 1898. Its got amazing theming and it looks super intimidating and it goes underground as well.

Just keep in mind that they are very safe and that a lot of things you did are far more likely to KILL U.

I remember having a bloody meltdown in the queue to Nemesis at Alton Towers as it was going to be the first time on an inverting coaster.... fast forward a couple of years and it’s probably my favourite ride ever 😂

My friend dragged me on Rameses Revenge at CWOA, I was practically in tears at 12yrs old and I basically became an enthusiast from then on. My first big coaster was shock wave as well🙂
Rameses Revenge is one of those rides that when you look at it, you regret all life decisions, but when you're actually on it, it's the most fun you could ever have. Really sad they took it down for that new Croc Drop ride.

Here is what I did with my fear of going up tall buildings and will do with the coasters (yes I call myself an enthusiast but I'm new):
Go to your brain and find what *exactly* scares you about it. Then, find something that proves there's no point of being afraid of that aspect. Maybe the height? View the drop as bringing you back down from it, like a helping hand in a way. That feeling you get on straight drops (the one I struggle with)? View that as only lasting for a few seconds. You could like a tweet in the same time. The safety? Research the statistics and find what you said. Inversions? Same with the straight drops.
I helped my Son through this, this past weekend. Two years ago, i made the mistake of tricking him into going on Saw, as you cannot really see the ride from the queue area. It put the fear of god into him, and he refused to go on anything else for the rest of the day. This past weekend, we went to Alton Towers. Got him onto the Runaway Minetrain, and he enjoyed it. Then we worked up. Thi3teen, Spinball Whizzer, Oblivion, Rita, Galactica, Nemesis, and finally, the Smiler. He loved every one of them, and the smiler is now his favorite ride in the world.

That for some reason just clicked with me and now I feel like I can go on any roller coaster at all
But let’s be honest, as soon as I see the Smiler in person for the third time, I’m gonna chicken out again.

Trust, the smiler is not nearly as scary as it looks. It has this small indoor section: just a tiny drop and a corkscrew, which helps to alleviate a lot of the nerves for me

When I was a child, I was more cautious about coasters than afraid of them, but that never kept me from riding. I do remember saying prayers on the lift hill of some big rides so I wouldn't die.
Welp I was afraid of roller coasters, before. But july 28, I went to six flags. Rode x2 as my first ride, thought it was fun, then conquered every ride there and that day. Right now while I’m writing this, if I could go again to six flags within this month, I’d be pretty happy. I’ve been craving roller coasters since. The thrill of the drops are so amazing. Also it’s less scary if you ride it with someone.

Idk, I went to a park 2 days ago and started off with the most intense ride there, rode with someone, and came off *shell-shocked*. Couldn't bring myself to do anything more intense than the smallest woodie in the park for the rest of the day. Even the swinging pirate ship made me nervous.

Same, but I'm scared of other people throwing up then me throwing up due to fear.
I can relate. You know that you'd really like to walk right on without fear, but in the back of your mind, you're not sure whether your stomach can handle something THAT big, and you know that if you threw up, you'd ruin the rest of the day for everyone else.
I expressed this exact fear in the comments of Coastoons's video on rollercoaster fears, and someone replied and pointed out that throwing up on roller coasters isn't as likely as we make it out to be. As long as you wait a while after eating (and maybe take some dramamine if you're exceptionally prone to sickness) you're actually most likely in the clear. It's the spinning rides you should worry about.

Pretty much mirrors my own experience too. My first big coaster was The Ultimate when I was nine and I refused to do it again I got such a fright, but a year later I somehow mustered the courage to do Oblivion and never looked back!
My first coaster was Rita at Alton towers I hear a lot of negative comments on Rita but it has a special place in my heart, I remember shitting myself for the whole 60 minutes queue I kept trying to bail but my sister's convinced me out of it.
I came off it absolutely buzzing, so eager to ride more it and nemesis is what made me realize how much there actually is to coasters

@@Rabbitzz I don't understand you people with your "first ride and the fear was broken" experiences. I rode Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce and still couldn't get on Phobia Phear Coaster.
@@Nitrolord I was just at Compounce a few months ago and noticed an interesting phenomenon, that most of the people in the line for Boulder Dash were looking at Phobia Phear Coaster and talking about how they were too scared to get on it. To me, Boulder Dash is by far the more intense experience of the two (not to mention much rougher--I think it needs another retracking), but you can't really see Boulder Dash from off-ride because most of it is hidden by trees, whereas it's hard not to see Phobia Phear Coaster, and it sure does *look* scary. I guess they named it correctly! Phobia's line was also very short; it seemed like not many visitors felt courageous enough to ride it.
But Phobia is actually a fun and very smooth ride, and I think it was even my favorite ride of the day, though I might rank Boulder Dash higher just for the potential of what it could be again with some TLC.
I used to get the stomach drop feeling on drops. It was my second time at Thorpe park, and I wanted to try all the thrill coasters as I hadn’t done any of them. On saw I was scared of the drop because of the stomach drop feeling, and to counter airtime I pushed myself into the seat. Then I got on stealth, and as we went down the drop I put my hands up and thought “that feeling is actually really fun”. I ended up loving stealth and discovering the fun in airtime and now im an enthusiast. My advice for the stomach drop people out there is to think of the airtime as fun, not scary. Putting your hands up on airtime hills helps with this
I overcame my childhood fear of riding roller coasters when I went to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, USA (because I live in the USA) in 2001 when I decided to go on an inverted roller coaster (one with the track is above you) that had multiple inversions and really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed that first ride on a looping roller coaster so much that I rode it several more times during my visit to that park.

My first thrill coaster was corkscrew and i loved it, then Neme really took all my fears away. Shammyb about 6years ago took away all my height fears aswell. Cant waIt for alton towers to open again. American viewer here. I recently forced myself to go on Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce, which is known as one of the best wooden coasters ever.
Firstly, after I came off, I realized that I did not enjoy that weightless feeling at all.
Secondly, at the bottom of one hill, the ride absolutely jolted me down and gave me back pain that lasted throughout that day and the next one.
So yeah, safe to say that my first experience with thrill coasters was not a pleasant one. I didn't get that immediate fear alleviation that basically everyone talked about. Does that mean that roller coasters just aren't for me? I tried Wildcat after, which is the smaller wooden coaster there, and I was exactly as scared of it as I was of Boulder Dash. How is that even possible?
My family and I are going to either Six Flags New England or Six Flags Great Adventure (we haven't decided yet) in spring for my graduation. They have a much bigger lineup of coasters there. Would that probably help?
If anyone has answers to those questions, let me know lol

My key to overcoming coasters is basically cloae your eyes and think you're walking into the flume again while humming the tune.
Great video; very entertaining! I've been an enthusiast since age eleven, 54 years ago. I've been with quite a few 'virgins' and have learned a few ways to help with their apprehension. First, be a good friend. If they don't want to ride immediately, you have to be patient. Band wagoning them will make them angry. And if their first coaster-seat has an over-the-head restraint, people seem to feel more secure. If their first ride is pleasant, they'll ride anything and everything. after that. But you have to begin by being a good friend.

That actually might be my problem! My first thrill coaster ride in a while was quite unpleasant; I got a wicked hard jolt at the bottom of a hill that left me with back pain for two days. Maybe the next time I go to a park, I'll have better luck with some smoother rides, and that'll help.

I needed this a couple years ago (for most rides) although thanks to your videos (plus a few of the people you collared with) I've gotten to finally like rollercoasters. When I first started off I was almost the same as you! The scariest ride being the flume (then th13teen) until I finally got on galactica, then here we are today enjoying coasters! Great video mate! Nemesis got me hooked to bro!

I can totally relate to the accidentally riding enterprise! I accidentally rode this ride called ‘tip top’ where you would rotate in the same way as enterprise however it was in an open aired cart and had lap bars. I thought it stayed horizontal but when I started to tilt I was like ‘Oh sh*t what have I just got on to!’ Also this ride was way faster than enterprise so combining the fear of me throwing up, the fear of going upside down etc. With the speed, I actually completely blacked out!

Remember, I was terrified until I just turned 13, went on Speed in Oakwood, still wasnt sure but didnt want to be a coward so did it 3 times. On the third time, got stuck for 10 mins half way up vertical lift hill, coaster fanatic now, that was exactly 2 years ago today. Since then I’ve been to Universal, Disney, Thrope Park, Alton Towers and Phantasialand and done every major coaster and loved every second!
I had a massive fear of coasters and then last year I went on the big one and then I got over my fear apart from going upside down. So this year I'm going to face that fear
My personal fears are a mix between high drops, going upside down, and getting sick, I can't get over it. I've been on smaller coasters like Hagrid's motorbike, expedition everest, revenge of the mummy, etc, i just can't get on bigger rides :(
I conquered my fear by just doing it. I wasn't scared when I first rode Nemesis, but I was scared of the other coasters, but I just did them and loved them.

Nemesis was my first big rollercoaster, I still remember being SO scared in the queue, but my Dad dragged me on and I'm so happy he did because I LOVED IT. Ever since Nemesis, I've been brave enough to try anything and it'll always have a soft spot in my heart because of it. I think it's fascinating how many serious coaster enthusiasts started out unusually phobic about coasters. Playing with fear is part of the fascination of these rides.
For me it's been literally a 40-year process. I was completely terrified when I was a kid. I do think that finding a ride that's scaled right for the rider can help. The first big coaster (second coaster of any type) I rode on, the classic Mr. Twister at Elitch Gardens, was so intense an experience that I pretty much came off of it as rattled as I got on. But a little later, I rode the late, lamented Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and that was exactly right for me. I loved that ride. I wanted to ride it again. (And later I could enjoy Mr. Twister.)
From there, it was conquering BGW's Loch Ness Monster, which taught me that inversions weren't that scary... but then in the early 90s I rode the infamous Drachen Fire, which was so rough that, while I enjoyed it, it also put me off riding for a long time because that thing *hurt*. At the time, I didn't realize that Drachen Fire was unusual and considered something of a failed experiment. And I only really got back into it around 2010 or so, starting with Canobie Lake Park's Yankee Cannonball. At that point, the Web was available and the online coaster community gave me a lot of information I didn't have before, and that really gave me the bug.
I didn't think there were more levels of this... but there were. When everything shut down for the COVID pandemic I ended up going about two years without riding a roller coaster. The first park I went to after things started reopening was none other than Six Flags New England, and the first ride I went on after the COVID dry spell was Wicked Cyclone, their RMC conversion. I think Wicked Cyclone, and their Intamin hypercoaster Superman: The Ride, did something to me. Up to that point I had been a fan of inversions, more than anything else. Wicked Cyclone does have some great inversions. But now... I was also craving ejector airtime. I'd felt it before, always found it a little uncomfortable, but now I wanted more. It took 40 years for that to happen. For some people it will probably happen faster. Maybe because they're starting out in a world where RMC already exists.
I do think I'm becoming *less* tolerant of very rough rides than I used to be. That's probably part of becoming a connoisseur. And getting old.
I still have nerves getting on a new type of ride. But one of the things I do is to tell myself that being scared in line is actually part of the total ride experience--I think it is. It's that willingness to feel the feelings, to turn the negative into a positive as Airtime John said from 9:00 on.
Growing up, the only thing that ever scared me was the huge, intense gut feeling that you get on big drops and fast launches. I remember my first time on Rita, desperate for the launch to end because the sensation was so intense it was almost painful but i couldn't move at all to make it go away. Rides like The smiler never really scared me because while inversions are intense and fun, they never give me that crazy gut feeling - but rides like Oblivion scare the ShIt out of me because I know it's going to punch hard. The more coasters I go on the more I love it though, and I actually want to experience that feeling cause I think being scared of the coaster actually makes for a better ride
I was very much the same! That 95 minute queue where I 'walked straight past the train and through the exit' was actually Rita. I couldn't get myself to do it at the time.
Formula Rossa has completely eliminated my fear of launches though 🙌
I personally was never afraid of roller coasters, except for that time when I was 6yo going on 7 riding the Bobsled Matterhorn at Disneyland but that's only because it made a loud and scary sound every time it did a turn. But now I'm afraid of being stuck on a Roller coaster when it's especially inconvenient; like when it's extremely hot. That fear occurred to me two years ago and since then 'd thought Id forgotten about it through my 1st trip to Cedar Point in May 2018; the top three parks in England in late Oct/Early Nov. 2019 and Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott's, when getting stuck became chronic. I was almost at the end of New Revolution when the coaster train got stuck and they announced "...unfortunately this attraction is down due to mechanical issues. If you're in line you can either remain or leave the line to ride other attractions. At this point all we can tell you is that this ride will be down from anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours." At that point I was already planning to Uber to my hotel and back to defecate and grab a jacket, but upon hearing the the P.A. I exclaimed "WTF do you mean? Five hours? GET ME OUTA HERE: I HAVE EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA!"
It took me YEARS to get over my fear of coasters. Back in 2011 the most intense coaster I’d ever been on was Spinball Whizzer at Alton Towers despite returning to the park year after year thinking I might finally brave the likes of Nemesis or Oblivion. That same year I ended up getting over my fear when I was in Florida, I remember queuing up to get onto the Incredible Hulk coaster at Universal Studios having an absolute fit thinking I was gonna get launched from my seat on that first inversion (I was 13 and only just taller than the minimum height restriction)

My first ever time going to alton towers I was still pretty terrified of coasters but that day I went on oblivion, smiler, Rita, thirteen and nemesis now I could ride them all day
This might be hard to believe but my first coaster was X2 at SFMM when it was just X. It was rough and absolutely terrifying. I was 16 and just agreed to go with some friends on a day trip from the bay area I felt I had to go on everything because I had driven 6 hours to get there.
X2 still scares me the first drop is just out of control.

My biggest fear of coasters is getting sick on them and the feeling of pressure on my face. To the point where I won't eat the entire day that I go to a park! Thankfully I have managed to push myself onto some coasters and even grew to love some. Lately, I still find myself struggling to fight off dizziness and nausea just from the anxiety alone lol. Hopefully I will be able to conquer a big ride this year
Definitely have someone supportive with you. Not someone who will make cheap cracks about loose bolts and weak lift chains.

Ok ok, I’ve done it. For those wondering, yes. I booked tickets to Alton Towers for 2 days, petrified of inverted rides and large drops. I’ll tell you now, DO IT. That drop on Oblivion is just amazing and you don’t feel as if you’re even really dropping that far down. For my first inverted ride, Smiler. Just one word… Yes. It is amazing

I chickened out of Shambhala when I was last there. I went on dragon Khan three times and that didn't scare me at all. I regret missing it now
I’m not scared of heights. I’m okay flying at 38,000 feet but put me in a roller coaster and I’m hopping right out of the seat. I’ve ridden a few back in the day but that one time at Carowinds made me never try it again, all because everyone tried to force me into the rides, saying to get my money’s worth.
Everyone kept telling me, If you don’t like it, don’t do it again, so I haven’t. Ever since then, my family has tried, and failed, to get me onto rides. Something must be wrong with me since everyone seems to love fast rides.
I'm terrified of heights and the feeling of falling. I used to be terrified of coasters. Best advice I can give is just don't overthink it. Just do it. Don't look at the coaster, you'll just worry yourself with how tall, steep, fast etc it is...
Just get in line, stay in line and ride it. After you've rode it THEN you can look at the ride.
When I ride new coasters, I still get a little nervous, but I do the same thing, get in line, don't think about it, ride it. I've gotten to where I convince myself that its just excitement not nervousness. Especially since the lifthill is usually the worst part of the ride for me.

Always had a strange relationship with coasters! I rode Millenium Force and somehow came away more scared! The best time for me to get on a coaster is when I'm just like let's get it over with and I get myself on before I can think about it lol

Nemesis did exactly the same to me. I decided I was gonna face my fear and go on Smiler and Oblivion after the only big rides I went on that weekend, Rita and nemesis . This really helped me and I hope I will be able to go on the bigger rides in September when we're going. I'm sure this video has inspired many people ( including me!) To go on rollercoasters. A year later and I did smiler, Galactica, oblivion and the rest!
I used to be so excited by rollercoasters as a kid because my dad loves them. I used to love kiddie coasters and couldnt wait to get big enough to ride the larger ones but then i passed on on a ride once (it wasnt a coaster!) and from then on rides terrified me. Recently i got super into rollercoaster and themepark channels and decided i needed to face my fear once and for all. I was scared of both suspended coasters where your legs hang down, launches and of going upside down.
So i decided to tackle one at a time. I love chessington so decided to brave Vampire, turns out I loved that ride so much its crazy! I enjoyed it so much i was now determined to also face inversions. So i went to Disneyland Paris and braved the single inversion Indiana Jones...once i realised it didnt make me pass out i went on both Hyperspace Mountain and rockin rollercoaster to face my last fear the launch. The first launch on space mountaini screamed the place down and couldnt open my eyes! But then we rode again and again. Cant say i was a fan of the rocking rollercoaster launch though!! That one is still too scary for me hahah

I was so scared of any big rollercoaster at all until literally last week when my best friend made me go on The Smiler at Alton Towers for the first time after avoiding it every single time I went. I was so scared waiting in the queue but I was particularly terrified of the second lift hill but when I got to it, it didn't feel as bad as I thought it would.
That being said, I still couldn't bring myself to go on Nemesis later that day but I have honestly regretted not going on it since I refused.
I think most coasters look a lot scarier than they actually are. They're designed to keep you safe.
Once you go on one you're absolutely terrified of, the thought of any other rollercoaster just seems like less of a big deal in comparison.
(Also, since I came back from that trip at Alton Towers I have watched so many rollercoaster videos it's unreal.)
That experience of conquering a big ride but still being terrified of smaller rides... it happened to me too. I still don't know why. I really hope I can get it fixed the next time I go to a park.
@@Nitrolord It's so strange! I've never had a problem going on any ride unless it was a big coaster but even after I went on The Smiler, I just plain out refused to go on Nemesis. To be fair though, I do think the style of the ride can have an effect on the fear factor. Specifically, I didn't want to go on Nemesis because it doesn't have anything supporting your legs and the thought of it absolutely terrified me. So if the smaller ride you want to go on has a different design choice that might be why you can't bring yourself to go on it.
@@pl1708 These ones were both wooden coasters lol, but thinking back on it, one reason why I might have been scared of the smaller one is because it's kinda a notoriously painful ride and the bigger one I rode just before had already given me back pain. I feared that the second one would kinda be the straw that broke the camel's back. But the different design thing might be the reason I didn't get on Phobia Phear Coaster. I knew Boulder Dash was overall a more extreme ride, but inversions would have been a whole new ball game for me that I wasn't sure I could handle. (I've never been on an upside-down ride, might have gone on Zoomerang but it was closed for maintenance)

And yeah honestly inversions do sound like a bit much but I honestly don't remember going on any coasters with an inversion other than The Smiler now that I think about it. Honestly they look a lot scarier than they are and I hope you get a chance to go on an upside-down ride one day :)
I was petrified but I rode nemesis, galactica and Rita in the space of a month or less for the first time. It helped me so much having people that I know love bigger rides then that ride with me first time. I’m riding the big one, icon and infusion for the first time soon and I’m so excited. I’m petrified but I’ll be fine.

i used to be terefied of rollercoasters, but am now a fenatic. A tip i have is if you have any family members that like rollercoasters go with them as you will feel alot safer. I personally don't know anyone who doesn't get a least a little bit nervous before getting on a rollercoaster
Last time I went Alton towers, which was my first time, I was so excited for the coasters, literally before going I was saying:
“I’m going on that, that and that!”
When we got there I went on Wickerman and that was it (that airtime hill made me pass away inside) so I watched as my whole family went on all the big ones, until my uncle said “At least go on one big ride otherwise it’s a waste of money” he gave me the options of Smiler or Oblivion. I chose oblivion because that looked better than smiler. I was shitting myself at the lift hill, we did the whole ride and when we got off I felt like I was invincible. Sadly we started queuing for Th13teen but it started raining so we couldn’t go on it.
I am still actually terrified of thirteen, I prefer Rita and smiler to it, it’s because it was my first rollercoaster ever and I was very young and I didn’t understand it’s the thrill
My first inverting rollercoaster was nemesis when I first rode it last year and I was extremely nervous but when I got off I started loving coasters
The worst thing about it is the waiting in the queue and sitting in the seat. The fear is the worst thing, just ride it, it's nowhere near as bad as you imagine it will be. I got over my fear by doing what this video said back in 2016, just riding them and starting on the smaller coasters and going to the big ones. Once I did oblivion, I finally beat my fear, and now I have no problem going on them. I still get somewhat scared, but I know it's gonna be worth it. and I remember saying when I was younger that I would never go on them, but it can be done.
I've been there don't worry! I remember that feeling well! I still get it from time to time :)

I used to be absolutely terrified of roller coasters. I hated the feeling in your stomach when you go down drops. Well, just last year I decided to go to a small park near me, whose only coaster is a small 70 ft wooden coaster. The first time I rode it, I got pretty nervous at the drop, but when I went down it, I actually enjoyed it. I came back to the park at a later date and rode the thing a total of around 40 times. Then about a month later I went to Great America, which i had been to before as a kid. When I went as a kid, that was when I developed my fear of roller coasters. But this time when I went, I rode every coaster, and had a ton of fun. Now im completely addicted to coasters, planning to go to CP this year. So I guess I got over my fear by just riding one of the smallest coasters, that was still an exciting one, a ton of times.
I overcame my fear of coasters by working my way up.
Like, imagine you're terrified of coasters and go to, say, Parc Asterix. I'd suggest this order, since it's the one I did:
- SOS Numerois
- Vol D'Icare
- Pegase Express
- Trace du Hourra
- Tonnerre de Zeus
- Oziris
- Goudurix
I can make such a list for my home park Efteling, which doesn’t have the most intense coasters, but they can give you a kick.
-Max and Moritz (Mack duelling powered coaster. It’s meant to be people’s first rollercoaster ride)
-Vliegende Hollander (The coaster isn’t that intense, though there are surprises in the dark ride portion of the ride. From a coaster standpoint, I’d ride this before any of the other big coasters. It was my first coaster. If you get scared easily, I recommend you do Vogelrok first. The coaster is short, not super tall, not super fast)
-Vogelrok (Indoor coaster. I assure you, it doesn’t go upside down. To some it’s really scary to not know what the layout holds in store. To some it actually makes it easier. The ride can make you feel like you’re high up, but it’s not that tall and not that long. It does feel quite fast)
-Python (My first inverting coaster. Four inversions. It’s not that scary once you actually go on it. It’s just fun. You also don’t have to worry about the ride being rough. It’s been retracked and it’s smooth as butter, unlike other old vekomas and arrows)
-Joris en de Draak (It’s not as tall as Python, but the tight twists and turns, plus it being a woodie makes it far more intense. I’d argue that it is actually the most intense coaster in the park. It’s a racer, so you’ll have two coasters to overcome. It’s not a rough woodie, but it’s not as smooth as steel can be either. This coaster has the most airtime in the park.
-Baron 1898 (Even though I said Joris en de Draak might be more intense, I think it is, as it’s a longer ride that doesn’t give you pause at all with the the twists and turns and bunny hills, Baron is the hardest to overcome. It’s just such an intimidating thing to look at. The story adds to the fear factor. The near vertical drop is the most intense coaster moment at Efteling. In typical dive coaster fashion, it holds you, right as you’re about to drop. Once you’ve done that, the inversions, helix and bunny hill mean next to nothing. It’s a short ride, but it packs a punch in its 501 meter layout.
