    I've started adding links to the tools and supplies I use and can locate into the description of all my videos. Full disclosure, purchasing anything through those links helps earn this channel a bit of money as I try and make this more and more of my focus.

      1.5k likes and 8 dislikes. Doing good man. I remember as a kid running around leather shops. My aunt and uncle were leather workers for years. Lots of dream catchers vests, chaps, and even some bikinis. Real leather just has this kind of thing about it.

    A tip for having your tooling not get drowned out by the antique to create contrast is to apply super/satin shene to your tooling before antiquing. dye your tooling how ever you want, finish it with shene, let dry then antique. the shene will save the coloring and provide a barrier to the tooling from the antique. this way the antique will still antique the tooling without sacrificing your tooling.

    This is very cool---watching this & your leather satchel video, and this gave me some ideas (I've been toying with trying my hands at leatherworking ever since the lockdown)? What I'm thinking about would be to replace the paper insert for a ring binder? Also thinking to do the carved leather as a separate piece that gets sewed onto the covers (similar to what you did with the satchel).....

    I made a character a while back who was basically a librarian in the library of the universe which is a big thing in my current dnd campaign. There is a home brew magical item I made which can transport one person to the library to take one or two books depending on their level (Above 15 is 2-3 depending on the amount of information). Ima use this as one of the books he carries with him when I make a cosplay of him

    Aaahhhh! I've been watching videos off and on for several weeks and I have finally found THE ONE! I'm making a ship's log for my son and his fiancé's very first sailboat. My father has been sailing since he was a kid, even made his very first sailing dinghy. He taught me. And my son joined us later and grew up on my parent's sail boat. We all loved it. Now it's his turn to own his own sail boat and a proper log. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.

    You have the video going so fast I can't see how your doing the stitches. And your keeping the signatures closed so I can't tell which stitche goes in which signature. I've got everything else done but this. And i can't find any other video on this style of stitch. So I've been stuck now for over a week. Do you have another video on how to make just this stitch?

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      I have another book video on here that may show it better. Baring that though a lot of people overthink the stitching. It's nothing overly fancy. I just stitch them in the only way they really can go in. But I can understand how that information not bring easy to see could stall people out on their build. I'll do a little video on it in the next couple of days, I can't remember how clear the new video is with that part.

    • @dirtyred246
      @dirtyred246 2 роки тому

      @@DarkHorseWorkshop please do make one. I love this style of stitch and once you said it was one of the easiest ones, I was like oh hell yeah. But then I seen how fast the video was and dang that was a let down hahaha. I thought for sure I was going to be able to see how it's done lol. Once you make a video showing how to do it, I'll probably feel stupid and be like dang why couldn't I see that hahaha. I'll hit the notification button and wait for the video. Thxs

    Je salue tout ce travail. En revanche je trouve dommage qu'à la fin de la vidéo, il n'a pas osé nous montrer le côté du livre une fois fermé. Vus l’épaisseur du dos du livre et le nombre de page, on peut deviner qu'une fois le livre fermé, l'épaisseur du dos soit bien plus importante que l'épaisseur de l'ouverture. Un peu comme un classeur tout neuf.

    Stunning! Maybe some metallic gold accents on another knot work carving?

    Wicked man! For this piece, if you wanted to put a strap with a buckle to keep it closed, it'd have to be a double straps of thinner width. One at the top and one at the bottom on the plain spaces with no design.
    My question is this.. Doesn't appear to have many pages in it. Could I build this with a LOT more pages? Or any way to ADD pages or this is what you have when completed? I feel like it'd be a nice THICK book with tons of pages for such a bad ass design and all the hard work put in. Keep the vids coming man you're doing great!

    Can anyone please show me how this threading of pages is done, closely and slowly...

    Hos mahn, BEAUTIFUL build brotha. But JOH, that orchestral band was winding me up something nasty, would be okay if it wasn't so loud maybe. Good work overall

    This is a project I've had in the back of my mind for a couple years. It would be something I'd like to tackle at some point. I'd go all out too with all kinds of adornments.
    I might start with some super simple designs at first.

    I love this toturial! Inspired me to try to make my own book. I'm halfway atm, but I don't have all the tools, so im' trying and failing different techniques with makeshift tools. I don't have the V gouge to carve the grooves in the back.. can i use my swivel knife or just a stanley knife to try to cut grooves you think?

      If you're very careful you can. Practice lots on scrap. Or use thinner leather. Or just bend and hammer it a lot and see how it turns out for the fold.

    It's amazing man. Knowing me, I'll eventually get the tools up to do this. Amazing work on your knot too! I have a paperbound version of an old grimoire. Do you think you could make a video on rebinding a paperbound book with leather?

      The table is a 4x8 plywood table with a 3/8" (I think) cutting board top

    is the arcs A3 unfolded so they turn to a A4 page once folded or do you use other meassurments? Also, does the number of papers used impact anyuthing other than the thickness of the book?

      Could easily double the pages in this design, probably more.

      Some people enjoy the music, but that said, recently I've started taking the volume on it down a lot. So I do hear ya. :)
