I am a professional leather-worker. I make my living with it. I specialize in making leather armor (combat ready), leather armor and accessories for cos-players, straps, belts, bags and some clothing. On the spine of your book, try using hot water. No hotter then 90 to 95 degrees F, 32 to 35 degrees C. Soak the part of the leather you are wanting to soften. When the leather is placed in the water, it will start to produce bubbles. Soak the leather till the bubbles stop. This will make the leather VERY soft and malleable and stretchable. IT will also give you 20 to 30 mins of work time so you can really get it into the shape you want. You can use a burnisher, or even the handle of a wooden spoon to really work it into corners and around your threads on the spine. Also, when it dries, it will not only stay in the shape you put it in, but will slightly harden, taking on a soft plastic type of stiffness. Do not use hotter water. If your water goes above 102 F or 39 C, when the leather dries, it will get so hard that it will become brittle, and can shatter like glass if it is struck. If you would like more detailed advice, tips or even instructional vids, just send me an IM at LGG Fabrications on FB, or respond to this post.

One thing I have learned with dying leather is that when using water based dyes you can achieve a more even color application if the leather is cased before dying. Casing is where you wet the leather till it can't hold anymore water then allow it to dry till the color returns to normal. Also, it is best to case leather before carving, it cuts better and you get a cleaner finish.
“I’m being really careful, it’s going to be fine...” *stompstompstomp* 😂😂😂 This is such an awesome project. I had no idea that’s how bindings were sewn. So cool!
I love this; you're so talented. When you couldnt get the round edge I was mildly amused by thinking 'Duh, Earth is resilient of course it wont bend to a simply hammer or by being stepped on.', LoL.
So I worked in printing for a little over 25 years, and I really love this project. The day after I turned 16 I got a job with the little mom & pop print shop that printed up our school paper each month. I was in journalism which is how I had an "in" with the owner. It was really just him, his wife, and sometimes his kids which were really not OSHA compliant. When I first started, he had this big round wooden table that he would set up the bundles of signatures on, then I'd gather and stack them for cutting and binding. At first I had to chase the table, which made the little kids, walking backwards because the table rotated to slowly for them, laugh their prepubescent asses off at me. It didn't take long to get up to speed, and I did everything, including shooting the negatives (on film). The only thing I didn't do was run the press. Obviously, I'm old because we would type our articles up on the first Macs ever, then format our columns with a razor and T- square, then run them through a little machine that would coat the column in wax so it could be laid out on the mock up of each page. Wax was great for being able to move the columns around and place an ad, or whatever else was needed. Some people would use a spray adhesive, which I always believed was invented by Satan. It got everywhere, and it never came off. This is so ancient now! I just turned 50 yesterday, so this was about 1987. I definitely didn't plan to make it my career, but it was something I could go back to between semesters at college. Anyway, I just wanted to really applaud all the effort and work, and skill. I was using equipment to jog those signatures straight, and another machine to measure the cut, clamp and move the pages as i trimmed 3 sides, then it was over to binding. The cut pages would be clamped, bound edge shaved flush, a wheel which was fed a constant diet of glue chips was turning molten hot glue as the clamp moved the book down each station. From glue to where the cover was applied, held for a minute, and caught by my gloved, but still roasted hand. 100 books was agony. I liked the work. I liked the smell of ink and I became a paper connoisseur. I would buy handmade paper, or blank journals of quality paper, bound in leather, with a strip to tie it closed. I learned to knit when I was about 3, so two things that I love, and soothe me are paper and natural fiber yarn. This does not help me speak at dinner parties. I apologize to anyone who tried to read this and dropped your phone as you fell asleep. I spent about 19 years at Kinkos, some folks remember it. Before FedEx bought it and sucked the soul out of it. I enjoyed watching your work, glad UA-cam tossed you into my Q. I look forward to your other content and promise not to leave an ode to printing in the future. Totally subscribed. And jealous.
First of all, I'm sorry about your kitty. Losing pets is always hard, but I'm sure she had a very happy life with you :) About the book, oh my goodness, it turned out soooo pretty! First I came to UA-cam looking for resin tutorials and ended up here... Now I want to start making books... Goodness... Being creative is a blessing and a curse... There are so many things to do and to learn, I will never understand how anyone can have the time to be bored. Truly amazing tutorial! This book looks so beautiful! Thank you very much for your inspiration!
@@nickkk9076 well i now have and it wasn't boring. There is still much to do in quarantine, even though social life, travelling and many more things are sadly not possible at the moment. But you can still plant vegetables or flowers, you can still read or write books or paint and draw. Or you could built things with wood or make your own app. You could start cooking or baking or making clothes or do some yoga or danceing or some other kind of sport. You can still be creative and work with thinks around you. I am definitely missing the feeling of freedom, but at least i can still do some things. Sometimes i think i do have more time in quarantine. But i would be so happy if travelling is possible again and if we do not have to wear the masks and if shops open again. But we have to stay strong in this time and make the best out of it! Start leaning new things while we have the time for it. Edit: i forgot thr mention music! Music helps me go through this time. Listening to music or playing music is sooo soothing and calming. It gives the soule some healing. I can full heartily recommend the soundtrack of Lorf of the Rings.
@@Buecherfreak16 True. My comment was more meant to be a joke but a lot of people are bored for the sole purpose of not wanting to do anything. All the things you listed are great ways to prevent you from being bored but most people, not all, but most people would skip on all the crafting. I am not hating, this is very valid and must have taken a long time to type, and I have resorted to crafting quite often in this time, just I know that people probably don't think to craft, thus boredom.
@@nickkk9076 it's alright, i understand that is was a joke, i just wanted to give these people you spoke of some inspiration in case they read your comment. :) But you are right, quarantine becomes difficult sometimes and I belive we all are looking forward to the time when quarantine/look down is finally gone. I teach leather working for a living, so I hope you find this useful! If you, or anyone reading this comment, ever need help feel free to ask. :) I hope this advice finds you well. - Make sure you seal your leather after you dye. Hopefully you haven't learned the hard way that the dye will leak out when it's not sealed. For a book, I recommend Fiebing's Tan Kote or Fiebing's Leather Balm with Atom Wax. Both are flexible and will be unlikely to crack when the book is opened and closed, etc. Apply about 3 coats (my go-to method of telling when it's properly sealed is when my sealant doesn't pick up dye on its applicator) using a damp sponge. - When casing (wetting prior to carving) your leather, wet the entire piece all at once, this will ensure that any water damage is uniform and make it less noticeable (it's not noticeable on yours after the dye, but on more complicated patterns it will be). - For burnishing, your arms will thank you to use Tokenole, Saddle Soap, or Gum Trag as a burnishing agent. Apply, leave for a few seconds while it absorbs, then watch it slick nice and quickly. - For carving/tooling, put a granite slab under your book cover. It's appropriate to glue it to the under material first as the leather WILL streach while carving, and the added smoothness and hardness of granite will make carving MUCH easier. - Also for carving, you'll be able to tell when leather is properly cased when it's cool to the touch but looks the same color as when it's dry. You'll find the knife glides much more easily and the stamps make better impressions.
Are you saved? If you died tonight would you go to heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH , and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

I really love the concept of having a spellbook that is a sketchbook. Since I don't have the materials for this kind of project I took a black hardcover sketchbook and drew on it. I used a white jell pen and put a design on the front and back and after that I used a gold and silver glitter pen to go over the design. I kept the theme of spellbook and just added a shot story in greek on the back along with a title on the cover. (Remember that I had to hand write all of it) The front: Translated)The Silver Moon το αργυρό φεγγάρι The back: Translated)The silver moon exists to be the balance between life and death. As daylight seems to fade and the night grows longer her children come out to play under the moon. They praise their mothers silver light appreciating her for all of her worth even after play time is over.
I recently got a leather book but I wasnt pleased that the pages had lines on them. I would have preferred the pages to be completely blank. I also intend to use it as a spellbook. I was curious as to why you decided to translate the message to Greek? Is that a language that calls to you?
Idk if you needed to know this, but I used to draw on my sketchbook covers all the time and I wish someone had told me sooner: If you spray/brush a thin layer of mod podge over it after your ink fully dries, it will protect your art. If you can't find mod podge for some reason, clear packing tape works too! I've wrapped several of my sketchbook covers in one layer of tape to protect the drawings/stickers from dust, dirt, and just generally getting beaten up. Hope this helps :)
@@xMJJMoonwalker A layer of some kind of polycrylic or acrylic or another type of varnish/cover might last a lot longer than midge lodge. A clear resin might be good too. It depends on how strong/thick you'd want to be over it. But a draft store employee would probably know which to use. Or home depot. I use midge lodge for a lot of things including at on time to protect my Christmas signs. Now I just use a spray on clear coating for them. But still use it for other things in my crafting.
Water is my favorite element. But she already made the air one blue, even though air is traditionally associated with yellow, so it's going to be pretty hard to make water now and make it stand out. The others you mention don't work as elements. Electricity would be the same as fire as it represents energy, same for light. And dark is just the absence of light so it's also the same. At least if we're going with the traditions of magic and not video games. In Chinese culture metal was considered it's own element, but in the western system that would be the same as Earth, solid, which makes much more sense if you take into consideration the 4 states of matter in modern science, and also because metals are a common component of dirt and stone. Light is sometimes used to represent the fifth element of spirit/consciousness, and the absence of light, dark, is used to represent it in it's opposite form, demonic/ego, but that is purely symbolic and doesn't really have much to do with light and dark as we understand it. But it's used in for example the famous Book of Shadows, sometimes called the Book of Lies, because it's used for a human to chronicle their journey trough Hell (the material realm) in order to find what is behind the veil. In a way, all science journals are Books of Shadows/Lies, while all art would be the opposite, Books of Light/Truth. And that's my little rant for the day, hope you enjoyed.

“It just looks like Slytherin.” I... I can’t tell if you like my house or hate it. Edit: I got a heart but not a reply. This is so confusing. Edit 2: the heart is gone now. This is still confusing.
Slytherin Hate is common. You'd be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't hate Slytherin and is neither a Slytherin nor a Hufflepuff. Edit: Nor a Ravenclaw. Ravenclaws liking and even loving slytherins seems to be more common than I thought. Edit2: This basically leaves us with only Gryffindor to hate on Slytherin. But about 80% of the Harry Potter fans identify with Gryffindor, even if they are nothing like gryffindor, just cause the main characters of the books/movies are, and thus the entire story is heavily biased towards that house.
When you edit comments the heart goes away. Otherwise people could change what they said completely and it would look like the youtuber supports them. It's to protect the creators

Interestingly, this was one of the last videos where she was still hiding her missing left pinky finger. Maybe she realized it would have been easier to do this with two hands on camera, and decided it wasn't worth hiding anymore.

@@sweet_sounds_asmr For a long time she hid it with strategic hand positions and camera angles, but not anymore. She doesn't make a big deal about it, and hasn't mentioned it in her videos, but someone in the comments noticed and pointed it out recently. "It's a bit overkill" she says while making a spelltome as big as my head!
could you make the water tome with an ice shard as the centerpieces
One thing I have learned with dying leather is that when using water based dyes you can achieve a more even color application if the leather is cased before dying. Casing is where you wet the leather till it can't hold anymore water then allow it to dry till the color returns to normal. Also, it is best to case leather before carving, it cuts better and you get a cleaner finish.
I'll never in my use this information ever in my life.
That said, really cool bit of information to learn.
Thanks!
Personally I prefer the more organic appearance of slightly uneven dye application but YMMV.

That's Tome's not Tom's. It's a reference to a type of book

I swear this channel always manages to inspire me to craft stuff!☺️
If I could make these, my room would be full of them 😂
Could always find a good sketch book :)
Yep
Me too!!!
I actually made one with green velvet.I use my book case and as a press I use my textbooks :)
I think I would also want to rebound a bunch of books I have that are old as fuck

Clearly you haven't been through 4+ months of quarantine if you can't find time to be bored lol
@@Buecherfreak16
True.
But you are right, quarantine becomes difficult sometimes and I belive we all are looking forward to the time when quarantine/look down is finally gone. Wish you all the best!

Genius! Wow, you sure know what you're doing! So complicated sounding.
John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD.
[14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH , and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

You can have as many books as you want. Have
Earth- Vol 1: Plants
Earth- Vol 2: Rocks
Next series idea: Make books themed like Harry Potter houses
Nina Schmidt we obviously know her feelings on Slytherin
But also the houses represent the elements. Gryffindor - fire
Hufflepuff - earth
Ravenclaw - air
Slytherin - water
@@that_girl_hillary Hufflepuff represents air I feel, Ravenclaw water, Slytherin Earth and Gryffindor had always been fire (impulsive, hot-headed, yadda yadda)
Wolfheart JK Rowling has talked about how the houses are loosely based off the elements, colors KINDA included. Gryffindor is fire (red) Hufflepuff earth (yellow and black, wheat and soil) Ravenclaw air (idk the color meaning) and Slytherin water.
Daenerys Targaryen It’s honestly just my take on what they represent, nothing serious.
This is gorgeous!
And I also love it when other artists do the whole “oh dang it I don’t have the right tool on hand to do the job.... I’ll make it out of household objects!” Because that’s something I’ve done ever since I was a child
(Remember that I had to hand write all of it)
The front:
Translated)The Silver Moon
το αργυρό φεγγάρι
The back:
Translated)The silver moon exists to be the balance between life and death.

The spellbook of shadow wow OMG it would be so great
@@juliemissinton9914 There is the Grimoire of Shadows, Link: ua-cam.com/video/itH5xyVqMDE/v-deo.html
How about an actual element like hydrogen

“It just looks like Slytherin.”
I to am Slytherin and I agree with the sorting hat Harry would have been a better Slytherin.
I’m a Ravenclaw and my best friends are a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff. I just wish they would be friends with each other 😓
All my closest friends as a slytherin are other Slytherin folk and Hufflepuffs.

They leave an amazingly big hole in your heart with their passing. And it takes a long while to heal. Mr. Squirrel was much like your baby but a solid black insulin dependant diabetic. We always figured that would be what killed him. Unfortunately he developed cancer of the salivary glands. I miss my boy. 😢😢
What is the music you used in this video? I really like it.
The Spelltome ist wonderful 💛 Where did you make the Video Clip in the Forest? The Nature looks awesome 💚🌲
*me, knowing that the Druids didn't write anything*
visible confusion
let's say it's the observation notebook of [insert someone that would make the story cool]. This person gathered forbidden rituals, aptitudes and summoning magic, and wrote everything down as a disturbing presence started looming over. A cool story à la Lovecraft, I'm sure would fit well
YAYYY, I was so excited to see this one😱😱😱
Not only is it beautiful but it really gives off that magik vibe. In the end, excellent work.
as a casual watcher it's so cool to see your personality shining through now!!!
Do you use these books to write in or just for display? Love the end product
Would you ever do commissions? Sorry, if you've already been asked this, this is my first video of yours.
I think Tony Stark said it best, "I want one."
MOM:WHAT THE HELL R U DOINGWITH MY COFFEE?!!!
ME :NEVER MIND JUST DOING THE PAPER WORKSHEETS
New sub. Absolutely obsessed already. You guys are so clever 💗
YAAASSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR AGES!!!!!
This one has to be my favorite since I am attached to the Earth Element. I love how fun you make book binding look and you are a inspiration. Sorry for your fur baby loss. :(
One tip for you, I book bind as well, >>curved needles
I absolutely love the work that you did. I would've made the straps brown though to play along with the earth theme though. It plays on green well and will make the book look that much better. Its all my opinion though. Good work
“Why am I so W E A K ??” MOOD.
Do you make custom orders and if so how much?
Thank you for your time and awesome content.
I've started learning how to book bind and I definitely want to make ones like these to write stories in that will hopefully last forever.
@@cristinagalaxyfun Any and all.
Awesome work!! I’m so sorry for your loss of Bonnie. I’m sure she’s looking over you as your guardian spirit. Riding that badass mecha, of course.
