I’ve never really understood biscuits and gravy either they used to serve it at my school in central Oklahoma every Friday and I would skip breakfast on those days😂 or I’d just give it to my friends.
Came to El Reno yesterday, from Wichita to try an onion burger. Went to Sid's. Was not disappointed. Probably find some chicken fried steak today. Not sure why that didn't make the list, although I suppose it could be grouped with steak at #1. Kansas is the 7th state I've lived in and I have visited dozens more. Always try to find the best local foods wherever I am.
Would have personally put numbers 10 through 8 much higher because as someone who moved here from TX, those are definitely things that aren't just Southern foods, but truly Okie specialties. But the calf fries and fried okra are great calls too. I remember frieds from other parts of the country not knowing what those were. And yes, Sonic is Oklahoma-based!
The best steak house I have been to is Rockin' H in Temple, Ok. They have the best steaks and chicken fried steak is to die for . NO to calf fries , YUCK !
Number 1 should have been Chicken Fried Steak. It is heavenly and in our state meal.

Gotta be homemade

At the El Reno Onion Burger Fest . It is amazing . We eat a lot of biscuits and gravy and love the Navajo Tacos .
I believe the very first Sonic was in Shawnee. Also where’s the chicken fried steak???

Look up the state identified foods: chicken fried steak being one them. Simple search.
