  • CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Despite the heat this weekend, a lot of people will be heading to campgrounds and pitching tents.
Others are doing a more glamorous form of camping: "Glamping."
Yurts are making some people do double-takes when they drive through the campground at AJ Jolly Park.
It's definitely not your average tent.
"It looks like a hobbit’s house." said Audrey Rusch who is one of three women who rented a Yurt for the weekend.
It's the one and only yurt. Larry Harrod with Campbell County Parks says it has been reserved every weekend at the AJ Jolly Campground.
"People just want to get away and camp and not have to go through the problem of putting up a tent and bringing sleeping bags and all that. Basically all you have to do here is bring your bedding and everything else is here," said Harrod.
On the outside, the yurt has a canvas cover, is 16 feet around, and has three windows.
On the inside, the yurt has many, not all, the comforts of home. There are beautiful hardwood floors. There's also electric outlets for fans and a microwave. No sleeping bags are needed as futons provide a place to sleep.
Dawn Matthews and two of her friends are camping in a yurt for the first time.
"It's easier. You’re not pulling the tent, doing the poles and tugging this. It’s a lot easier. You roll up and unload your stuff. It's already up for you. It’s really convenient," said Matthews.
To those hard-core campers who smirk at the site of a yurk?
"I say they're crazy. It is camping. You’re off the floor. You don’t have to put a tent up," said Matthews.
Not only are there the comforts of home, but the yurt provides a lake view. Matthews says it’s a campsite that's worth reserving again.
"Oh heck yeah. Definitely do it again. I can’t wait to see the other ones when they come.. Maybe get a couple of our families out here. We got a big family," said Matthews.
Currently there is just one yurt. A second is on order and should be at A.J. Jolly Campground this fall.
