- After weeks of planning, building and buying stuff my new studio is finally done. So much fun and so inspiring to work in here and to make music, the improvement in sound is huge due to the acoustic treatment and of course due to the new speakers and audio interface.

Very well thought out and professional. I'll trust my mixes with you.
Congratulations ..you have an awesome home studio. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Nora
Mister Mike:
Everything looks great, neat and professional, it shows the great planning you did, point by point, detail by detail. I congratulate you on your great achievement, and I have no doubt that this will open many doors of work and music everywhere.
A hug, and new videos are missed.
Regards!
Hi Mauricio! Thanks so much for your kind words. I will upload new stuff soon, I have been stuck in some mixing projects for clients hence I didn‘t find the time to upload videos.
Look awesome! Realy happy for you! You make some good content!
Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
Great job Mike. it looks like you really did a lot of research as well as construction. Looking forward to what you produce in your studio.
I’m sooo jelly! Eager to see how your new space gives you room to create, produce, and teach - those three things you do so well. Nice work, Mike.
Thanks so much, Stephen. It's funny because I am getting more productive in this studio. I built all this mainly to make better mixes for clients - which I cannot share on UA-cam though. ;)
Wow...that is an amazing setup! Congrats Mike!
Thanks a lot, Adam. The planning of all this was actually really fun - even though I sometimes thought that I should've studied physics to understand all these room acoustic theories ;)
Great interface!
Thanks Mike, nice setup.
Cheers Rob!
Love it all Mike!! Dig the Meinl rug too!! I have it also!!
Sound dampening/absorption/diffusion and room tuning are so important...nice work with the cloud too!
Hey Jerimy, good to see you buddy. I know your room is acoustically treated as well, because it's equally important for recordings. Hope you are doing well, my friend.
@@MikeLuke Hey Mike! Thanks man, we are doing well! Yes, we spent quite a bit of time with our room...we made all of our treatments, but it was fun! We ended up with something like 100 2x4 ft. x 2 in. panels. We used an approach that I can easily remove panels to liven up the room if needed...it’s been a fun experience for us and I know that you will and are enjoying your studio too!!
Looks really nice and totally professional!! Lava lamp is correct.
great studio! greetings from Norway
Thanks a lot and greetings from Berlin.
I'm getting Superior Drummer 3 and I'm using your videos as tutorial to help me. Thank you sir 😎
Great video! Loved your studio, congrats!
Thanks for watching it. :)
Looks really good!
Thanks Giovanni. It's fun and inspiring to work in here, too.
Killer setup !
Cheers :)
Vielen Dank, lieber Rob! 🙏😎
Very cool setup and well explained. As I am currently beefing up my home office room into a combination of Live-Streaming (MS Teams, Zoom, ...) and a music listening room I surfed so many articles and videos, but your video is really king. And, regarding the room acoustics I already came across all those brands that you have built into your studio.
The only thing I most likely will do differently (if get my wife‘s budget approval -:) ) is about the bass absorbers: I friend of mine who is in the music, audio and recording business for many years recommended to me the active bass absorbers PSI AVAA which must be incredible, especially looking at their small size. But they are about € 2,500 each, and I may need 2 of those.
Should I have some I will report back to the community, of course.
So gorgeous..Congratulation!!👍👍+1
Thank you very much, my dear friend.
Very nice man. Really love the interface set up. I will have to check that out. We should jam. Love watching your videos and you are responsible for my recent purchase of the Death and Darkness by Toontrack. Really awesome..
Very cool studio! Awesome! Hope you are doing well
I am good, Mike. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are okay as well over there in the US.
Nice. Yes Lava Lamp in English too. I thought that was a weird RME Babyface, I sold mine recently. No need for 192khz or 96khz. I got a new Tascam. Ordering Binary Diffusor now! Thanks
Hey Brian, thanks for watching and commenting. I agree, I don't need 192KHz either (yet). I pulled the trigger on the RME because of the stable drivers and the superb AD/DA conversion.
Well done with the room, my first question: What is so special about the accoustic panels that justifies the price? Am I wrong to think that I can just build something similar myself and achieve the same result? What am I missing?
What is special? That someone else had the work and built them for me, shipped them to me and knows exactly how to build them. Of course you could do it on your own. But sometimes we also go into a restaurant and don't cook at home, do we? ;)
Companies can also buy or make better absorption materials that you can’t buy at a store. Some similar sound insulation products here in USA (meant for inside walls and closed attics to insulate) you can buy to make yourself acoustic panels but creates dust and micro materials when cut that are harmful to breathe in that people are not aware of when making at home. Audio companies can make better material that doesn’t have that issue since they specialize in it. It may not be the same in UK or Germany.
looks great ... congrats! atb d
Danke Dir, Dirk! :)
Hey Mike! I use Superior Drummer 3 with a V-Drum set(TD-15KV). I find that one big issue is triggering ride cymbal’s bell sound in SD3. Do you have any similar issues with this and possible fixes? Thanks in advance!!
Hey Armando, no, my ride cymbal usually worked flawlessly. I never played the TD15 though.
Now I am the jealous guy😊👌🏼!
Man muss dann immer sehen, wie weit man in Richtung Perfektion gehen will.
I would have one question: How does this room fit for relaxed music listening - rather than mixing which I would perceive some work with high concentration. Reason for asking is that so many people say that for listening one might want less absorption in ther mids and highs.
Would love to get your personal experience on that.
Well, you kinda went for the right thing here. Even though I liked listening to music in this room, but the purpose is different. By trying to „flatten“ the frequency response, you just make sure your mixes translate to any other environment people listen to music, like supermarkets, in their cars, with their ear buds or just on the radio in the kitchen. No one listens in a perfectly treated room ever. However, if you mix, you don‘t want to hear anything else than what‘s actually in the parts of each song. (Disclaimer: There is no such thing as „perfectly“ treated room anyway.). I know there are a lot of HiFi enthusiasts who treat their living rooms in a similar way - yet differently. Their main goal is to control lows and highs to avoid built-ups. A mixing engineer tries to hear as „flat“ as possibile, which the majority of audio listeners would describe as „boring“. ;) But when you highs or lows are over-emphasized while mixing, you constantly fight against something that‘s actually not there, if you know what I mean. It‘s like painting a picture on a white surface while covering your light bulb with a colored piece of cloth - you see a color on your painting surface that‘s not there actually.
Congrats! Excellent stuff. Why Studio One as a second DAW?
Thanks :) Well, it was more unintentionally, to be honest. I had the old PreSonus Faderport, which stopped working with Reaper after the upgrade to Reaper 6. Then I got the new Faderport as a birthday present and even though it does work (kind of) with Reaper, some key features aren't available. With this Faderport I got a free licence of PreSonus Studio One Artist (the entry level version) ... so I worked with this for some days and really liked it. Then I decided to upgrade to Studio One Professional as there even was a discount offered. Now I use both. :)
@@MikeLuke Interesting. Maybe you could do a video about it.
Hallo Mike,
Greetings friend Mike! how great are your videos! always inspires us to improve ourselves, great project, I congratulate you!
Sorry, I know this is not the issue! but I want to know if you have a patreon? and I also want to ask if the TD 25 module has position detection in the snare to use with the superior drummer 3, thanks Mike!
Hi Frank! Thanks for your nice comment. No, I don't use patreon. Yes, the TD25 has positional sensing. Check out the wikipedia page for Roland V-Drums, there you'll find a comprehensive overview of all Roland modules and all features they have (or not): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_V-Drums#Roland_drum_modules
Sweet. What are the dimensions of the room? Where are the drums?
The room is 5 meters deep, almost 3 meters wide and 2.8 meters high (you might do the maths to translate in inches and feet if needed). The drums are in my basement, don't play them anymore.
great improvement. But was it really necessary to put so much acoustic treatment inito the room??? Also I see your window should be also a big issue .... here you have nothing against bad reflections
Hi Oliver, thank you for watching! Well, yes, it was needed. The four corners need to be treated in any case and any room. Same goes for the first reflection points above my desk and on both sides of the desk. The rest is basically more diffusion than absorbing. The window isn't an issue. The speakers do not send audio signal towards the window (but into the room instead), and in the room the sound is damped and controlled enough, before it hits back to the window.
During the process of planning this room, I have spoken to engineers, mastering engineers as well as manufacturers of acoustic treatment panels. And of course did my own research. The result was clear: A window is only critical when audio signal is directly pointed to it - which is not the case in my studio.
Mike, love your SD3 videos. Do you have plans to make more tutorials/tips on using edrums with SD3? I just picked up a used macbook pro as I'm not getting the results I want with my mini PC.
Not sure about this, to be honest, as I don’t own edrums anymore. I will continue to make videos about SD3 though.
@@MikeLuke I didn't realize you no longer have your edrums. I just built my A2E and trying to set everything up and your videos have been very helpful but there is always something I'm struggling with to work out lol. Studio looks great btw.
Where’s your kit?! 😊
I don't have my kit anymore.
How come you have no kit anymore Mike?
Like 👍👍
I was going to do the same but saved lots of money by buying some Ultimate Ears Reference Remastered in ear monitors. Saves a fortune on all the traps etc
Lg 😊🙏🏻
I don't see any musical instruments. How is this a music studio?
Steinberg released the first Virtual Instrument in 1999, millions followed, but thats beside the point..This is a MIxing and Mastering (possibly) Setup. That's not to say you couldn't record guitar parts or vocals and especially Bass since it's normally recorded straight into the Desk.
