    I'm turning a room of my house into a full-sized curiosities room/study, and this is giving me so many ideas on what to add in! I've got an assortment of skulls, gems/minerals, emu and ostrich eggs, turn of the century apothecary stuff, my own collection of herbs, brass navigational tools, and some clockwork thing I honestly don't know what it does lol. All with my rolltop/tambour desk and occult books and chemistry glassware. I just have to go through and clean/organize that whole mess XD

      @@craftsbyxander Hmm... It would be between my biological specimens (preserved Spiny Dogfish Shark, Burmese Python vertebrae, mummified frog (species unknown) or maybe my turn of the century apothecary scale with a marble top (badly cracked, some brass parts replaced with modern) or my 1910s W.H. Gunlocke swivel chair that I still need to buy/make parts for. Or maybe my modern, but still old looking , leather armchair I got for five - yes, FIVE - dollars at a Goodwill. Then again, my John Lust and Nicholas Culpepper herbal guides are great (modern reprints).... Too many neat things to pick a favorite!

    Loooove this build of yours! All the amazing props from the vampire hunter's box and vampire skeleton...to those strange skulls in the cabinet. Really random, but I admire how steady your hands were when drawing on that little gold plaque for the conjoined twins! 😂😂😂 It was so nice to see those things your purchased from native artists incorporated into the build as well. Felt you 100% when you said you decided not to do the tufting after poking the holes.. I'm psyching myself up for a tufted project too, who knows how long it'll take! The satin-lined coffin turned out great even without tufting, and that stake through the skeleton's chest really took it to the next level ⚰⚰⚰ Been subscribed to see your updates on Professor Okeo's house and really love how this room is coming together!

    • @craftsbyxander
      @craftsbyxander  Місяць тому +1

      100% I find if I force things they just don't turn out how I'd like them too so I sit n stare at things for hours. I haven't really shown this on here but on top of Mr okeos house I have a rooftop garden I am working on. I turn to that when I am not feeling creative but more so when the whole filming and editing process feels to overwhelming but I still want to make something. It's kinda became my secret garden project in a way. I went to Denmark in may and my miniature find from there was a miniature mermaid of tje famous stature of tje little mermaid so I made her into a pond statue. Part of me wishes I film it but it was in one of my phases 😄 I also found some mini bears in Canada that I plan to make a landscape scene with for the channel so definitely something I want to delve into. @@craftsbyxander that they are. I was initially was going suggest Toi Moko or Mokomokai but that would be a bit beyond the pale.
      Maybe another idea could be some Polynesian artifacts, like a Maori Patu or Mere.

    May be a stupid question Zander but are u cutting them cabinet doors by hand or thru the Cricut??

    • @craftsbyxander
      @craftsbyxander  28 днів тому

      Hi Karen. For this cabinet I used my laser cutter and 1mm MDF board. I've not used my cricut for so long. It is about time I dusted it off again 😊

    A couple of things I have in my house which would be fun to have miniaturised and put in the Oddities and Curiosities room are heads and pictures with eyes that follow you around the room.
    This creator has the technique about right, but I'd draw some creepy irises in instead of using model's own.

    I just found your channel and your content is awesome and so helpful! Do you laser cut your own wood for things like cabinets etc? If so, is there a specific cutter you recommend?

    • @craftsbyxander
      @craftsbyxander  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Victoria.🤗 I use the XTOOL M1 laser cutter. I personally have never had any issues with my M1 and it has opened a whole new crafty world for me since purchasing that machine. Looking at comments on the Facebook groups it isn't without its problems though. Iv'e had mine for around a year so there is probably a few new ones out now that are probably better and stronger but i'd recommend the M1 going off of my own experiences🤗
