There were very few slots for the portuguese students to go visit Thessaloniki for a whole week and experience the school environment there so, I couldn't miss the chance. I was one of the picked students and I have to say that greek people blew my mind on how kind, great hosts and funny they are. As soon as our group of students landed in the airport, all the greek students hosting us came running and hugging us, we were overwhelmed with joy. My girl was called Maria and she and her best friend Giota were the funniest girls ever. It was an instant friendship. We arrived home late in the evening and ate a whole spanakopita together. I immediately felt like i was home, her familly welcomed me like i was family. Funny to see the greek girls in this video saying that spanish sounds like greek because from my experience during that week, all the greek students told me the same but also recognized that portuguese sounded "familiar" even if they couldn't understand a one word we were saying 😅 and we also agreed that greek had that "familiar" sound or languistic manneirisms that we could mistake for portuguese at first, but then we couldn't decipher the words upon a closer listening. It's crazy to say this but it honestly felt like both languages were distant relatives with the same "base" or roots but that evolved in a very different sense through the centuries. And i guess that is somewhat true. When we handed our greek pals some portuguese texts for them to try and read, they did it perfectly! And the other way around also happened, according to them. The only thing was that none of us knew what we were saying, but the pronunciation was there. I loved the experience, the people, the food and I just feel like Greece has this "hugging", home feel to you, just like Portugal would have. It's a southern european thing I guess 💕

@@manuelmanzanero5057 Not really, we just don't like how some Spaniards feel 'superior' to us, and how they behave when on vacation (refusing to make an effort to understand the language and being very loud.)
@@nezahuall To say that Spaniards, or some Spaniards, feel superior to you (I assume that you mean the Portuguese), is a purely psychological and subjective assessment. It is as arbitrary as inverting the terms and saying that it is the Portuguese or some Portuguese who feel inferior to the Spaniards and who project on them the arrogance or security that they lack. But superiority or inferiority are complexes of individuals, not of human groups or countries. When you say that some Spaniards feel superior, in what sense do you mean it? They think they are taller, smarter, more handsome, more successful? Or is it simply an assumption that you abstract from the fact that you consider them "loud" or unwilling to learn the language? But no: the reality is that beautiful and ugly people, tall and short, successful and unsuccessful, there are in all countries, cities and streets. Success, height, intelligence, do not define some countries against others. The issue of the bad behavior of the Spanish tourists continues to cause me some amazement. Portugal is visited every year by thousands of Spaniards: it is not uncommon to find them in all cities, and it is easy to hear them (because of their high number, not because they make a particular noise). I myself have a part of my family living near Lisbon (Cascais). My impression is not of bad behavior, but my impression is subjective and I do not deny that there might be some cases. However, according to statistics, the British appear year after year at the top of the countries with the worst performing tourists. This is evident in Spain: but it is also evident in the rest of the countries of the Mediterranean basin, especially those most focused on beach tourism. In Portugal, is the behavior of the British used to construct a general judgment about the United Kingdom and its inhabitants? Of course not, and it would be unfair and arbitrary to do so. But nevertheless, it is used to reach general conclusions about the Spanish. And what about the effort for the language? Do you ask the Britons to make the effort to learn your language? Of course not: we speak English to them, and we consider ourselves modern and cosmopolitan countries for doing so (and it's difficult not to remember here the issue of the inferiority complex). So I am afraid that the history behind some Portuguese with Spain has little to do with noise, superiority and bad behavior of tourists: in the same way, if all those things are not reproached to the Brits it also has little to do with their objective behavior, but with a series of prejudices and sympathies / antipathies related to the history of the last centuries and the way in which it has been institutionalized in schools and in the environmental ideology of our different countries. The UK (I mean its monarchy and its academic elites) has always been a first class country at justifying its actions in front of the world and demonizing the actions of others. But that's another matter. Greetings.

It's actually interesting. Our language (Greek) is phonologically identical to Iberian Spanish. Our letters have the same sounds, the main differences are that Spanish will more frequently have a longer rolled r than Greek (though this can differ based on accent) and vowel lengths can differ between the languages. When we hear each other speak it kind of just sounds like you should understand what they're saying but it comes out as gibberish haha.
Because in all honesty it does. It's not just them, the two languages are theoretically almost as distant as they get, only being connected within the Indo European language family. However, the large number of Greek words that entered Spanish combined with similar phonetics and similar sounding endings eg Spanish -os means masculine plural, Greek -ος/os means 2nd declention masculine singular, Spanish -as means feminine plural, Greek -ας/as means 1st declention masculine singular or (1st declention) feminine singular genitive. As you can see, the same sounds in the same places are common, but signify different things.

Lisbon is the most beautiful city in the world, and Portugal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. ❤️ The city of Porto is very old and romantic city. The Portuguese should be proud of the beauty of their country. They have a beautiful nature, climate, architecture, cuisine, music (fado) ... Only people without souls don't like fado. Lisbon has a soul, and its name is ‘fado’. Fado was recognised by UNESCO in 2011 as an ‘intangible cultural heritage’. Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city, is the heartbeat of the country. It’s also one of the oldest cities in the world, predating even Rome. Lisbon is a city of old souls who value tradition, art, and creativity and are putting those facets of life to use in modern ways.
The Portuguese people are some of the kindest I’ve come across in my travels. They are one of the best nations in the world, they are very polite and friendly open to foreigners. People with the beautiful hearts and souls.
For me, the Portuguese language is the most beautiful language. I speak several languages including Portuguese, Spanish, French, English, German, and Croatian, my native language. Languages are my passion. European Portuguese and Slavic languages have the same phonetics. In Portugal, Russian speaking people learn the language quite easily. English speaking people don't use many of the sounds used in Portuguese, so they have a bit more difficulty.
European Portuguese is sexy as fuck, it's a perversion for my ears. 😊 Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes once called Portuguese "the sweet and gracious language" and Spanish playwright Lope de Vega referred to it as "sweet", while the Brazilian writer Olavo Bilac poetically described it as "a última flor do Lácio, inculta e bela" (the last flower of Latium, rustic and beautiful). Portuguese is also termed "the language of Camões", after one of the greatest literary figures in the Portuguese language, Luís Vaz de Camões.
Olavo Bilac once said "a Pátria não é a raça, o meio, o conjunto dos aparelhos económicos e políticos, é o idioma herdado ou criado por um povo". Fernando Pessoa wrote in Lisbon "a minha Pátria é a Língua Portuguesa". Saudações da Croácia. 😘

@J. Smith Very informative and interesting comment, thank you. A few years ago, for some reason, I developed an interest in the Celtic history of Portugal to the point of actually visiting Galiza/Galicia and seeing some of their historic Celtic sites. I also learnt an Irish legend of a “Míl Espáine”, son of a Galician Celtic chieftain called “Breogan”, who left Galicia and landed in the shores of Ireland, establishing Ireland’s last peoples, the Milesians. Would be fascinating if there was actually some truth to the legend!

I'm portuguese and in 2010 my highschool linked with a greek highschool to have this student exchange for the first time.
Aww, that's so sweet
As a greek you make me happy lmao :)

Greek with Spanish girlfriend of two years here, really considering it!
Our friends say if we have kids they will be Italian xD
Because in all honesty it does. It's not just them, the two languages are theoretically almost as distant as they get, only being connected within the Indo European language family. However, the large number of Greek words that entered Spanish combined with similar phonetics and similar sounding endings eg Spanish -os means masculine plural, Greek -ος/os means 2nd declention masculine singular, Spanish -as means feminine plural, Greek -ας/as means 1st declention masculine singular or (1st declention) feminine singular genitive. As you can see, the same sounds in the same places are common, but signify different things.

We don't dub in Greece either.
@@alx_gr1
That might be why the Portuguese and the Greeks speak English better than the French , Italians and Spaniards.

Spanish é a língua , os habitantes da Espanha são Spaniards como Danish é a língua que os Dinamarqueses falam e os Dinamarqueses são Danes.
Danish e Spanish são as línguas ou algo desses países mas não o povo.

What a fun video! Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹❤️
When the question about the different rhythm of life came up I honestly thought it was about Greeks! I just ate dinner and it was 22:30 hahaha. But I guess that's another thing we have in common with Spain! Lots of love to all our Mediterranean European people!
Portugese men are wonderful
Tricia Leftwich I can't agree with you more. 👍 Portuguese guys are the hottest, cutest and sweetest guys in Europe. Period. 😁 Greetings from Croatia.
Thank you. 😉
@Augusto Gonçalves Slavic women are the most beautiful women in the world. Here are my two favorite comments about Slavic women: "Eastern european especially slavic women are first class beauty in the world. They are just flawless angels 🤔" and "Russian and all eastern European women are shockingly beautiful ...I would know I used to work at a place were we got women from all over the world ...slav women are in a league of they own"
Check out Natalia Vodianova (Russia), Olga Kurylenko (Ukraine), Petra Němcová (Czech Republic), Paulina Porizkova (Czech Republic), Tatjana Jurić (Croatia), Marija Karan (Serbia)... Thank me later. 😁

So much fun shooting this video! 😁 Marina, you rock ❤️
And to those saying that France isn't Southern Europe, well, it's not Northern Europe either, is it? 😅
Central and Southern France are totally Mediterranean when it comes to culture and French is a latin language. These countries were picked because we all relate to each other a lot and have a lot of similarities.
And I was born in Paris, which might not be considered "Southern Europe", but I'm originally from Corsica, you can't go more Southern Europe than that, but if we had put Corsica instead of Paris, people would have gotten mad for other reasons, so... Let's just all enjoy a video, be happy and love one another ❤️✌️
Yay Nour! Well said 🙌
@J. Smith Not Mediterranean but still Southern European. Portugal technically is in South Western Europe bordering the Atlantic.
@J. Smith Southern European is a general term. Yes Portugal is in South Western Europe. South Europe is divided between South Eastern and South Western Europe. Italy is South Central Europe. Yes there are differences for sure between these countries. Southern European is just a generic general term. The Portuguese are a South South Western non Mediteranean Atlantid peoples.
@J. Smithsorry I don't quite understand what you're saying, what do you mean exactly?
@J. Smith
What??? Are u compering the weather of Portugal with England??
Lol 😂
I live in London almost a year love it but the weather after 8 months start to affect me, turn me blue or grey !!!
We don’t reach the Mediterranean, but we have Mediterranean culture also!
I know... Portugal is little but u can split it in 3 areas, north, center and south ...
U will see the different influences of cultures....
