I agree with other comments that you should be adding an anti-rust agent to the ultrasonic cleaner.
I have experimented with many different chemicals to use for rust removal.
In your case, with an ultrasonic cleaner, you could use something as mild as white vinegar or Coca-Cola.
I personally clean my drum hardware with Dollar Store toilet bowl cleaner. It is a weaker (cheap) acid cleaner and has not damaged any chrome bits. I soak it undiluted, checking every 30 minutes, then rinsing thoroughly with hot water and drying completely. For tougher rust on drum hardware I will use Lime-away or CLR.
I will often follow up with Krud Kutter, The Must for Rust cleaner and inhibitor. I use this for the detailing with a toothbrush.
I finish with a combo chrome cleaner/polishing/sealant for amazing shine and future protection of the metal.
For chrome snare shell I wash with Dawn. Then I use the chrome combo cleaner/polishing/sealant with a fuzzy polishing wheel on a drill. This removes some pretty bad looking corrosion, smooths rough spot and does not leave scratches like steel wool.
I recently detailed my two '70s Pearl Chrome "Stuart Copeland" snare drums to a like new shine. There's debate as to whether Stewart's snare was Chrome over steel or Chrome over brass. I have both so... I got it!
I have had the chrome over steel snare ever since I bought my silver 6-piece Pearl kit used in 1980 from a friend's older brother (when I was 14 and paid with my own money, $400 cash).
I got the vintage chrome over brass snare at a large thrift store a couple years ago for $12.99. It was a crazy find!
They both look and sound amazing!

Hi Mike how about changing the mixture to a product that really removes rust like SKYCO /OSPHO (marine grade) that not only lose the rust but stop it from coming back! Also there’s a cheaper version you can find in Home Depot call Klean Strip, I leave the rods, washers, screws and nuts submerged for 10 minutes and all the rust is gone then I put them in a ziplock and spray them with a marine lubricant like CRC 6-56 marine multipurpose lubricant!!

That's something I'll have to try! I typically use WD40 or else water/dish soap, but that could be a nice alternative!

I’ve started filling it up with hot tap water at the beginning and it heats up much quicker. Then I leave the cycle on for 30 mins while I go do other stuff. I also got a mesh tray on Amazon that seems to work better and is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter. A lot of the sound just comes from the tray jiggling around.
Also, a weird observation - I just got some AirPod pros and the ultrasonic causes crazy distortion glitches in the noise cancelling and transparency modes. After some research, it doesn’t affect the earphones at all, just something to watch out for!

I don't know why I didn't just consider helping the water heat up from the get go, makes so much sense. Same thing for the tray vibrating and making noise.
You're my inspiration for this video!
