    I don’t like the drop down feature because I feel like you should be able to click on the original navigation element versus hovering and selecting the categories.
    My question is… is it possible to have a blog page…then summary blocks for each category (possibly carousel) but most importantly linking “read more” to go to a single page of the category only?!
    I don’t want numerous categories in the navigation so the only thing I could think about is if I had all the pages in the not linked section but keep them enabled. Idk if that makes sense. I’m new to squarespace and trying to not make it so complicated but I have a vision in my head what I want my blog to look like. Because then I would want the same with my store as well..
    Would really appreciate any help or tips..

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  2 роки тому +1

      Yes this is totally possible! See this post www.bigcatcreative.com/blog/how-to-customize-your-blog-design-in-squarespace
      It is more complicated but if it works better for your content then go for it. Just keep in mind that Summary Blocks are limited at 30 items so definitely having a "view all from this category" or "view all posts" button or something of the sort is important.

  • @cheerlin

    Can we have different header title or image for each blog category?

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  2 роки тому +1

      No the Blog Title/Header area will stay the same, and it will just filter the posts. The only other way you could do this is create new blank regular page for each category and design the header however you want, then in the body of the page add a Summary Block and filter the category in that Summary block. This is a bit more work and be aware that Summary Blocks have a limit of 30 items. Here's a more in-depth tutorial www.bigcatcreative.com/blog/how-to-customize-your-blog-design-in-squarespace

    what if we used your customizing blog video in order to create a new blog index? I'm so lost on how to link the pages to the index and then all back to the blog now haha

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  11 місяців тому

      If you've used a Summary Block to pull your Blog Posts you can't "filter" them with this method. You could create multiple Summary Blocks that filter/only different categories, but if you're using Summary Blocks to create your blog page that's the only way to split up the categories

  • @KingTolentino

    hi newbie question... that means i just need 1 blog page and drop all my blogs there (travel guide, gear reviews, how to)... i thought i need to create multiple blog pages per categories i will create... would that work too? what is the best practice?

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  3 роки тому

      You can do either! I would be inclined to do one blog with different categories as then you can have one page with "ALL POSTS" as this is something you can't do if you split the categories up into different blogs. But, if you don't want an All Posts page, then you could split them up - there's no bad option here really :)

    How do you make the link work like an "or" instead of "&" some categories/tags have overlap so if you select both when creating the link it will only link to urls with both the category and tag, not either or

      Hmm good question which I don't have the answer too sorry. I would first ask Squarespace support chat to see if there is a simple way but I don't think so. From there, I would post your question to this group as there is a lot of people in this group that develop easy plugins and might have something for this facebook.com/groups/1841908079397590

    I literally just found your page as I am trying to set up a blog with squarespace but also in this time I have had to quickly shift my focus to start a website. Now I am confused on which direction to go. I have a blog name I was prepared with that I don’t necessarily want to be my actual website name. Do you have any suggestions for me. Should I just launch my blog and then make my website secondary to that? I am so confused 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  3 роки тому

      Hey Tammy! You'll want to focus on what the main goal of your website or blog is. What is more important? What is the long term goals here? Then choose your name from that. If the blog and website are related in any way, keep them together and come up with one name for everything. If they are totally different ventures then you can have 2 different websites that aren't related :)

    Hi, really enjoying your content! Super helpful. liked and subscribed!
    I'm currently reorganising my website. I have a platform which is now mostly focused on music but expanding. So I want to create a 'feed' (blog). Where I share information on multiple categories like: articles, dj mix, press, interviews and more.
    I also have a radioshow more regularly and want to update that page when I do new shows and have an archive of older shows.
    If I were to create a new post for every new radioshow in this same feed it will probably clutter up a lot of the other information.
    So I was thinking to create another blog only for radio. Do you think it is smart to do so?
    I also want to create a reading list, where I run into a similar problem. Maybe in the feed I sometimes want to highlight that there has been an update to the reading list. But not have every new item in that reading list be part of the feed. Would it be best to create another blog for those lists and then in the ‘feed’ blog create a link to the other blog for the reading list?
    Maybe a lot to wrap your head around but I think you will understand what I mean, and might be something more people are running into problems with.
    I know you can also batch with tagging, so batch 1-30, 31-60 etc. might this be the way to go? So I create a summary block which shows all the categories except radio and reading list. and this becomes the feed. Only thing I run into then is the 30 post limit. So people aren't able to see the archive. I think it might be a bit hard to keep track of all the posts which will belong to batch 1, batch 2 if they also have different main categories right? Or do you keep track of this simply by the order you created them in?

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  Рік тому

      It's totally fine to create separate blogs if you want to keep this information separate / not in the same blog. You could create a "home" page with "recents" (eg 3 summary block carousels with Main/Radioshow/Reading with the 30 most recent posts) then links underneath these that says "see all" or something.
      Otherwise you could have it all in one blog and just make sure you have clear category labels so people can filter out the stuff they don't need.
      Or you could this plugin with the Summary Blocks that works well www.squarewebsites.org/squarespace-plugins/lazy-summaries

    • @sekan-sekan
      @sekan-sekan Рік тому

      @@BigCatCreative Oh wow I think that plugin might be the solution. Since I could then keep everything in 1 blog. Might be safer for future proofing if I want to still create links to eachother. And create a seperate blog overview page with a summary block selecting only the categories I want and using this lazy summaries plugin to be able to show all the posts from these categories without the 30 post limit. Just seems a bit expensive for a little line of code..

    • @BigCatCreative
      @BigCatCreative  Рік тому

      @@sekan-sekan I don't think you can go too wrong either way. Worst case you can always move posts around too, just remember to create URL redirects if you do move anything so that the old URL can redirect to the new URL ua-cam.com/video/Z97Wsyy4ILc/v-deo.html
      It's a lot more than just a little line of code, and it includes any updates if Squarespace changes anything! It's a high quality plugin.

    • @BigCatCreative

      I recommend using a Summary Block. You won't be able to have a filter for categories but you'll be able to pull a certain number of preview posts from different categories / tags.
