People pay for a raggedy $99 bone. But complain about an official bigger screen with an actual controller for an better connection for $100 more?? I rather pay $199 Anyway ya did this to yourselves. Buying backbones showed them yall needed one. CONGRATULATIONS! Ya played yourselves 😂🤷🏻♂️
For $200 I would get a Abxylute. Same quality of remote play, plus other streaming stuff like gamepass, ect. Oh and you can use the headset you already own, wow!
I feel like this device will really help clear my backlog of games. Looking forward to picking one up. As a Dad of 3 small children, having access to my PS5 anywhere in the house with a dedicated device & dual sense controls is very appealing.
You’re absolutely right, I feel the same way about it. As a father is so convenient to be able to play anywhere in the house while my son watches his cartoons on the TV
@@peterpereira3653 good point I give you that, but since I bought a Steam Deck almost a year ago I got used to playing handheld, and since most of my games are on my PS5 this is very convenient for me.
• no Bluetooth, you have to buy new PlayStation Link compatible headsets at a price point of $200 • no local play, not even media playback • no PS5 cloud streaming • targeting same battery life as DualSense controllers I’m sorry but as a owner of a PS5 this is unacceptable. We deserve more respect than this in my honest opinion
@@LianCasablacks Yeah, but then you need developers to support it... And expect consumers to adopt yet another eco system that would be much more costly... Portal doesn't have those problems... But I do agree with you, and I would love a handheld PS4!!
The lack of Bluetooth is a big blow. Unless you shell out another £200 on top of the Portal, you can’t use a headset/earbuds with this thing. Sure, you can plug in a wired headset via AUX, but I’d bet any money that the vast majority of people initially interested in this, were hoping they’d be able to just simply connect their existing wireless headsets and/or earbuds.
I've been using my phone with a backbone to remote play for years so for me the cost doesn't justify a slightly better experience. Also any device can wake up and connect to a PS5 from anywhere. The portal might streamline this feature, but you make it sounds like you have to go to the other room to turn the system on first which is not the case.
I've been considering the PlayStation backbone but I'm always hesitating because I worry about input lag and delay, does backbone feel responsive or do you feel the input lag ever so slightly?
One thing they should have incorporated should be swappable sticks like on the Dualsense Edge, because if you get stick drift on the portal you're basically screwed.
@@junarvinaguinaldo8486 exactly, they clearly didn't research or think at all when designing it. They should fire their head designer of this for that huge miss. $200 down the drain if that happens.
How many people have actually gotten stick drift on duel sense controllers ? I have had my controllers since launch and still no drift so why would I expect it on this 🤷🏾♂️
I haven't personally on any of my dualsense's, but have on dualshock 4s brand new. It would just be nice to have the option to replace, especially on a device like this that will be hard to justify replacing just incase it happens. I did pre-order mine today and hope it doesn't happen. I wish the would just use hall effect sensors so there would be no worry for that.
They could've at least made it 4k quality, it's only 1080p quality. Also, they should have made it to where you could access your games via the cloud, so that you could take it anywhere in the world, instead of just your home 🤷🏾♂️, I mean IJS.
We give you audio jack but take away Bluetooth and use the standard 2,4Ghz connection but with a new forced protocol, so you need to buy our own 200$ headphones for a 200$ streaming only devise that can't use our own game streaming service and requires a PS5 Sony 2023/24
I disagree with your take about this device. They should've just designed another standalone portable console with Built in and optimized PS5 Remote Play
I think that device is still coming. But I think this is strictly for the people who want a better remote play experience and are already within the ecosystem.
@@CKidM That device is definitely not coming. Sony has no intention to split game development resources to support an independent portable system. Even Nintendo stop doing that by making their system a hybrid so they don't have to make games for two devices. Nintendo realized the problem after the WiiU failed because they were too distracted with the DS to support the WiiU properly.
Once you start arguing for a product that would be in a completely different price bracket, you’re not really arguing against the existing product. It’s a product for people who want a better remote play experience. Making it $200 more wouldn’t have helped those people any. It’s fine if you want a vita 2, but the vita one’s market is the reason you don’t have a vita 2, it’s not because of the PlayStation portal.
INCORRECT Ckid! I have the Playstation 5 backbone. And as long as my console is in rest mode, I can literally wake it up using remote play from anywhere in the world.
Yeah, he was a bit off on that part of the video, but he’s right in the sense that you just turn this device on and it happens. The process of opening the remote play app on your phone and triggering the connection will happen much slower by comparison.
THANK YOU! I can turn my system on from my friend's house. The Portal is gonna need the same high speed internet a phone needs. This guy can't be serious.
Not only that but what was all that about getting up to put the disk? Does this guy think disks work like back in PS2 where it played directly from the disk itself? Disks install the game in your system since PS3 days. You don't need to get up and put the disk in your system before you take your remote play device at all.
@@SIPEROTH if you can play games you downloaded from disks I want to know your secrets lol. I only have one game on a disk, I far prefer digital download, however with that game I cannot play it unless the disk is in. The disk basically acts as the license to play the game so many people can’t play the game off the same disk.
I got to correct u when you said no other device can wake up the ps5, thats incorrect, if the ps5 is in rest mode u can wake it with remote play, no need to interact directly with the ps5
I do sleep shifts at work, this is a definite purchase for when I'm at work, not to mention when the kids want to game while want to watch a movie. There's always a use for this
I'm sorry/not for anyone defending this crap. When it inevitably gets stick drift you'll be having a 200+ dollar paperweight. At least the dualsense edge controller (same price) allows you to swap the sticks when they start drifting
The portal is marketed as a "handheld" console, which is where the problem is. They need to call it an extension of the PS5. It also seems to only caterer to a small group of gamers. This is a very underwhelming product. It is not made for all gamers, all users without a PS5, and all gamers who game on the go
Never once has Sony marketed it as a standalone handheld that was all from the leaks that was calling it a handheld. Sony has been quite clear in calling it just another accessory to the ps5 since they announced it
I'm honestly excited for it. It is disappointing that it's not a stand alone handheld, but I feel like it's a step into the handheld direction. I honestly want it so I can still play my game without being cooped up in my room or having to get off of the ps5 in the living room for any reason.
For all we know sony could also be seeing how well these portals sell. Maybe if they sell good with how the portal is now then sony will possibly consider going all in on a new line of PSP or PSVitas.
Do you really believe a company that already had multiple handhelds that sold well needs a tester to see if they would do it again lol. Fanboys will say anything
Let's just agree to disagree... Majority of the ps5 owners are on a tight budget, no one in their right mind would pay $200 for just a display attached to a controller. In a world of handheld gaming where switch, steam deck and other standalones exist, this makes no sense
I have just pre ordered. It’s lacking a lot of stuff that I would have liked to have seen, mostly offline play but does offer the convenience of playing in other rooms of the house while still offering the Sony experience which is the reason for my purchase.
REMEBER: It Costs 200 On top of the 500 you need to buy the actual console for it to function. GOOD GRIEF, i just don't see the point of it! If you want to play while your family is watching the TV tough just wait and spend time with them after you can play, better yet get a local co-op game so you can play while spending time with family.
I'm definitely picking up a PSPortal. I fit the target demographic and it will see a lot of use. Just a quick note about digital games and why there are no savings for the consumer despite there being 'less cost' for the publisher. The fact of the matter is that digital games aren't free for publishers to distribute. They must pay monthly storage fees and throughput fees to all the platforms they release on. Servers, storage, maintenance, electricity, and internet connections aren't free, and the platforms must recoup these costs. In the end, digital games can cost more for the publisher than a multi-million copy run of physical copies that might cost a few dollars (or less) to produce (with some early storage costs).
It’s still cheaper to distribute digitally than physically. *Sony proved that with its first party titles on Vita being $10 cheaper on the digital store compared to full priced physically. Now get to the part where all these deluxe editions, multiple season passes, DLCs, and recurrent user spending schemes for live service models on many of those same digital titles demand customers pay more than the $60-70 base price and provide a steady stream of revenue to the tune of hundreds of millions, sometimes billions of dollars, every year for these major publishers. All while the publishers lay off hundreds of their employees deemed expendable to boost end of year profits, further enriching the executive class and shareholders. Folks always want to talk about how much these publishers spend to make and distribute their games. Routinely missing from that conversation is how much they earn back many times over and sacrifice their employees to hoard that wealth.
Digital download video games are less costly for publishers. The big win is they don't have video games retailers taking their usual large cut. Plus no print media or physical media is required. Again more cost reduction for the publishers.
@@peterpereira3653 by some accounts, physical game retailers get a 10% or lower cut of the profit of every new game sale. That’s why companies like Gamestop push used games and consoles so fervently. The latter is pure profit for them.
Still makes no sense! It only supports certain games, and only supports games that you have.... you can't even play the catalog games in the PS Plus service. It's not cool at all
Thanks for making this video. Lots of people shitting on this when they sell the Dualsense Edge for the same exact price, which I believe did not get the same level of hate. I used remote play and I like the idea, just sucks because my phone is too small with the backbone. I just want a reasonably priced handheld remote player for my PS5, not a steam deck for $400. Or an iPad/ laptop that I have to balance on something to play People love riding a hate train and don't see that there is a lot of people who were looking for this offering from Sony. Lack of bluetooth and ps cloud streaming blows though :( Also, according to sony's website at least, this thing is in high demand for pre-orders. It's clear that a bunch of people on youtube/reddit who don't "get" this device has never had to share a TV with a family/partner, which is why they can't fathom how anyone could possibly want this device.
HAHAHA it doesn't even come included with the most basic of options that have been standard on not only cellphones but gaming handhelds for a decade now. No bluetooth, No on board processing, No offline gaming, Can't use the "device" without using/owning a PS5? They invented their own audio solution so they can paywall their new "wireless headset" that has to be connected to your PS5 via USB, for an ADDITIONAL $200. Why would I, or anyone else for that matter even consider buying this e-waste, when I can use remote play services from devices I already own? Or better yet shell out an extra $130 for a 256GB SteamDeck that includes a legitimate handheld gaming experience that isn't locked down to any ecosystem, and is capable of playing just about any game you can think of across several platforms, including the ability to emulate last-gen games. AND it's capable of being used as a media player. This all makes Z E R O sense and is going to flop biiiiiig time. "Those things (PC's) weren't designed to handle such high quality gaming and computing" What the hell am I even watching.
WIFI only ( Wii U ) by Sony when Xbox can use other platforms than it own within his edge browser shadow pc service is more portable than Sony ( may cost more but having a full pc over remote play with a limit of how far you )
Thank you for giving it props man! As a PlayStation fan and psp/vita collector, this is really awesome Sony is releasing this. It’s not for everyone like you said but it’s for us PlayStation fans that want a playstation handheld and play the games we already own. So thank you for not crapping on it, I pre ordered mine yesterday, I hope more people support this
@@CKidMWhat you're saying about optimization is incorrect, it has nothing to do with if the device is made for it or not, if you've ever used the app "PSPlay" you'll know how much better it runs than the official app (just look at the reviews Vs the official app's reviews). PSPlay is better optimised than the official app in almost every way, I frequently play online with it with no noticeable lag. This is a major difference to the official app, which frequently lags. This isn't an issue of specialised hardware, an average phone can handle remote play just fine, the problem is that Sony's Remote Play software is bad, it's as simple as that, and the only way that they will improve it for this device is to improve on the software as a whole, which will render these points irrelevant.
This for sure did change the perspective. I like the idea of being able to play my games while I’m away. As for the all digital era that we’re going towards, I agree I think if that happens then games should go back to 60$.
@@Visionoflegacy what do you mean, you’re literally just going to the Netflix app on the Portal which is being mirrored from the PS5 and watching it just like every other game on it.
@@8BitRetroMonkey Load up remote play right now and try that. You’re going to get a message that says something like,”this content can’t be shared through remote play.” It’s because content library’s have to be cleared for each device.
I just played Arkham Knight and did not have any issues on my backbone the screen on my iPhone 12 Pro Max is OLED and I feel the screen size and resolution made the game almost feel like I was playing on my TV.
Glad I ran into this video. I have owned the backbone since may I’m mostly a gta player and even though ps remote runs mostly smooth ( with the exceptions for some lag here and there ) it just didn’t feel good enough for me. For someone who shares a 1 bedroom apartment with a partner and we only have 1 tv this is definitely right up my alley. Just pre-ordered mine.
Finally, someone with an understanding of what us genuine PS5 followers really have wanted for a long time. I love and can't wait for the Portal. I don't like Sony cutting out the Bluetooth connectivity.
This is only for dads and husbands that are giving up the Main TV while kids and wives watch it after dinner lol. I may get one to use while the wifey is watching housewives of some city or the bachelor lol. My 1 question though is why not use an Ipad with a regular controller, or a backbone? this is for a niche market...very niche.
For me the reason I don't wanna use those devices because although it can work...I just feel like they are not made for that...because I don't wanna be gaming and then I get a phone call or a text and interrupt my gameplay.
Finally someone on favor of this device, thank you for your two cents. I have been waiting for Sony to release something like this, I got to use the Logitech G cloud for a couple of weeks and it worked great so I’m guessing the Portal is going to have way better integration with the PS5.

Chiaki and PlayStation remote play for PC, Andriod and gaming devices like Steam Deck, Rog Ally etc. can wake up PlayStation from anywhere . I been doing this for years now with these apps. To wake up your Playstation when you away from home or not on the same network you just have to setup port forwarding on your modem . On you home network you don’t need port forwarding the you can just open the app and the PlayStation will wake up . I think the dongle for the PS 5 is just for the new head phones not to connect the PS portable . The PS portable with connect to the PS5 the normal way you set up a remote play device . PS portable has the link built in and won’t need the dongle to use the new headsets .
You cleared up one big rumor in this video. I was hearing folks say you had to be around the same WiFi that your PS5 is on to play it. In your video you said you can be halfway around the world and you can hook up to it as long at the other WiFi has a good connection. I’m buying one for sure now. This could pass time for me at work when I’m on my breaks.
The Playstation Portal is basically a tablet with the playstation controller attached to it... the experience will be exactly the same as what you get on the backbone or an actual tablet. It's the exact same, Remote Play.
No it want it will be a better experience. Sony is finally about to control the software and hardware to have the stream more optimized for remote play, just as Apple does with their hardware and software.
@@wendelllawson3320 That’s now how this works. You’re streaming a video game through a service. It doesn’t make the service itself any better because it can’t. This device is a tablet with controllers. Except at least a tablet has features.
the fact that it has a dual sense controller and a bigger screen makes it a much better experience than attaching a backbone to a tablet or phone. Youll forget its even remote play once you start using it. I
@@we_thriveThe only way that’ll happen is if you’re playing from within your own house on the same connection or else you’ll be sacrificing latency and graphic quality.
@@ElOtiencomputing isn’t that shallow. The chips and the parts that make the system run matter. Now, instead of using a phone that isn’t *built* for gaming, you now have a piece of hardware that is *build and optimized* for streaming and processing that specific flavor of data and information. Idk if it’s worth the $200, but it’s just straight up and factually not the same thing as remote play on an iPhone or Android.
If your TV gets busted, the portal will be your emergency gaming console. If you play long hours, you can use it to give your TV a break. I use remote play on my phone but I might still get the portal so that I can use my phone separately (for guides, walkthrough, etc).
Sony was never gonna do that. It's not viable to split your resources to support 2 ecosystems. 3rd party devs don't wanna support them either. Even Nintendo Switch'ed to 1 ecosystem and killed off the DS.
I use the ps5 remote play on my iPad Pro and I don’t see much of any issues. Maybe a little lag but that’s because I don’t have the best internet but still playable and still enjoyable. My iPad Pro has a big screen, can connect any wired or wireless headset or any earbuds, and connects ps5 controller. I can screen capture and screen record straight to my iPad Pro. iPad Pro is still easily portable and has a much bigger battery than the portal. My setup works great for me with no complaints. Respectfully the portal is not worth it and I don’t see any benefit from the portal unless the portal was its own stand alone handheld system. Also my iPad Pro has a better screen than the small 1080p 8inch screen.
I too use my iPad and here are the pros you said you didn’t see for the Portal over the iPad: 1. Sony didn’t designed the iPad, so while you claim you’ve only experienced a little lag here and there, you would still see the benefit of no lag at all. 2. My iPad and controller aren’t connected, making it almost impossible to comfortably use my iPad for remote play in bed. 3. I hate pairing my dual sense controller back and forth between my PS5 and iPad. 4. iPad screen aspect ratio doesn’t match the video output, so black bars vs fully filling the display.
@@Visionoflegacy for me i can remote play comfortably play on my ipad. Black bars if there is any i dont notice them. Littke to bo lag is due to my poor internet. I use a dedicated ps5 controller for my ipad pro so its always paired so when i turn on controller its automatically connected. My experience it works for me littke ro no issues even woth my poor 12 mbps wifi connection at its best. So the ps portal makes no sense to me. If i didnt have this setup abailable then sure ps portal would be great.
My issue is that away from home, most wifi sucks. Hotel wifi sucks, starbucks wifi sucks, and most other public wifi sucks. I do like the idea of playing offscreen at home, but at $200 with no bluetooth, I'm good. I'm someone who buys everything PS, but they priced me out of this for what it is. $50 for the controller and $100 for the tablet is fair to me. Just me though and now power to those willing to pay $200 for it. Like I said, I want one, just not for $200 and I still need to use a 3.5mm jack like it's 2005.
Definitely something I have a use for, potentially a day 1 buy, however it depends if there will be either a 1st party party protective case available day 1 or 3rd party.
Pure garbage tech.. 1. you can only play the games you have installed ob the ps5.. 2. You have to be in the same wifi network.. (at home).. 3. No Bluetooth. (Maybe use a chord for the headphones or just listen to the game from the TV.. 4. No Oled. 5. No streaming. Such garbage
again false info also in this portal video: if your ps4 or xbox is in standby you can totally wake it up with apps. in both cases android device or portal you need at least wifi 6 to have a very good streaming experience. third party appsnlike for xbox even give you 1080p and fixed bitrate settings upto 50mbps
You opened my mind to this and the way you summed it up made sense. It could be good especially if they allow a cellular service with it allowing us to play anywhere but that’s a if.
To be able to connect to 5G etc it needs a chip that allows such connectivity and this device doesn't have one. So there is no allowing or anything. No update or whatever can make it use a cellular service because it simply doesn't have the hardware.

I do all this with my Steam Deck (ps5) and more. The argument just isn’t valid, there needs to be more value to it. Even offline play would justify this $199 piece screen with buttons. It’s a no brainer for me.
i disagree with you there. Simply having the PS5 dual sense controller attached to the screen is going to make a big difference. I used the steam deck for the same reason as well and it is not a user-friendly experience. How many average users are going to fiddle with a steam deck to setup remote play? Get serious.
Yeah, nothing you said about other devices doesnt also apply to the PSPoo. It needs wifi just like the rest, and will have the same performance. Just all the other options of remote play can do other stuff lol
@@CKidM the device sure is made for remote play but it's literally a tablet with a controller attached to it thats locked to remote play. The wifi chip is most likely going to be equivalent if not worse (it's 199 and samsung phones chips range in speeds depending on which model) So their won't be a difference, and if remote play sucks that bad then Xbox in its own league that remote play is flawless with my Xbox Series S hooked up to Ethernet, and my ps5 comes in tmr so I'll be able to see for myself. Everything you said doesn't make sense and you really need to learn what remote play actually does and what it requires from the devices. Your video is just a load of misinformation
@Aurakel Seems to me that most people that Champion this thing seem to think this thing has some magical connection to the PS5, when it's actually limited to the same WiFi as the app lol
@DudleyHunt its shit, absolutely shit. Remote play is just bad its not a WiFi issue or device issue they're just shit, have 500mb/s wifi download and upload, hooked up to ethernet and just got the ps5 so no cache load or anything straining it. And man its 1000x worse than xcloud, Sony has no fuckin clue what they're doing with cloud gaming. Probably why they wanted to stop the Activition deal so bad, and claimed Microsoft would have a monopoly on cloud gaming its cuz their shit and cant catch up and don't want to lose their significance from ps fanboys in 10 years. Also don't see the hype in the ps5, or why it's outsold Xbox... its literally the Apple to Samsung, Xbox being Samsung. Like my Xbox can play more ps1, psp, and ps2 games then the Ps5 can... aswell as do alot more, alot more games with the subscription service. Only reason I own one now is I can't play the exclusive on Xbox and not building a pc rn
😆 Don't listen to this man... This new device will flop. Imagine this device gets stick drift... Then what? 😆😆 Oh... Okay, like I thought. Horrible purchase
That's literally the price of the Switch Lite, which is a fully functional console, why are we living in a world in which Nintendo are making better choices than PlayStation?
Exactly. There are people like me who are rooting for this and this is the perfect companion to the console. I’m hype for it. Remember everybody complained about the AirPods. And now look at how popular those are.
I hear your excitement but honestly a few things. 1 have a switch for away gaming. 2 I just don't believe the hype. I don't think the consumer will get any long playtime out of this device. And 3rd I need wifi connection each time is a no go for me personally.
Im split between waiting for this or getting a switch. Reason i dont go and just get a switch is the games are soooo expensive. Where as i have this i have a massive library on my ps5. The main reason for using it is because my son hogs the tv or my ps5. The only downside is that you cant play the ps5 on the big screen and play something else on this new device at the same time, if it could do that it would be a no brainer. So really its more a device to play while im in bed or my son is watching tv. Where as the switch you can do both.
I agree with most of what you say. Except I’m very disappointed that only Sony earbuds work for it. I’m one of those weird people where earbuds constantly fall out of my ears, including Apples AirPods and the original Apple earbuds as well. So I ended up going with Jaybird Vista after trying several earbuds. I think it’s a shame that Sony won’t let us choose which earbuds we want to use
I get the use for this PlayStation Portal but they should have created another version of a PSP. Where you can actually play on that AND the ps5. It being more than $200 wouldn’t be an issue. But PlayStation definitely should have created something that can actually compete with the Switch. I have a ps5 & I just want to play games with my fiancé without having to purchase an entire different system connected to another TV.
@@gregoryburkhead7813 this is true but in my opinion the PSP was ahead of its time. If it was released now as a standalone device, I could definitely see sales through the roof.
Oh look! Another pony telling people they’re wrong for a half baked device that doesn’t have basic Bluetooth connectivity. Even though it’s a connected device, it won’t let you stream from PlayStation’s own service. I find it ironic that I can use my Sony XM4 earphones on a switch.
I look at the device just like an accessory for the console. People want it to be a traditional handheld, this is an accessory for the console that has its purpose, just like charging docks or customizable controller. A one in all device for remote play, which will make it much more convenient to play remotely whenever you need to.
That’s what I have been saying. This is a PS5 accessory, it is not a handheld gaming device like a switch or steam deck so people need to stop comparing it to those.
@@Blacktanamo Yea, but that 200$ accessory looks fragile as fuck. Not to mention, once those sticks start drifting your fucked regardless since the controller halves won't be removable. Thank you! The PlayStation Portal is exactly what Sony says it is and the backlash and lack of support it is receiving is the MAIN reason why Sony stopped making the PSP. I will definitely be buying.
Backlash because of features it should have for $200, especially replaceable analog sticks like on the Dualsense Edge. If you get stick drift you're basically screwed out of $200.

@@clintperez8874 lol the funny thing is the vita didn't sell well because of crap like this. Then they rinse and repeat with a screen that has two non detachable controllers and it has no Bluetooth so you're forced to buy Sony wireless headphones. I've been sony since day 1 too and this ps portal is complete garbage especially compared to the backbone.
You’re the only person that I’ve seen that understands the assignment! I thought it was dope from day one, my man cave is upstairs and away from my family which is a good thing but if I wanna hang around them and play like I do my switch then this would be perfect for me
If I can play my physically owned PS4 and PS5 games that are inserted in my PS5, at work, with a mobile hotspot. Then I'll be able to play new releases like Avatar Frontiers of Pandora at work. That's pretty exciting. Much better than steam deck or rog ally because it can wake up and hibernate my PS5. So it will act like a switch, when you want to take a break, just put it in sleep mode. Then wake it up real quick to continue. That's the big thing about modern portable games.
Great video, break down, and analysis. I think you are 100% right about every point you made. One other point is that i think Sony could easily produce more portable devices of the Portal is successful. Sony could also simply testing the waters with a fairly low cost device first.

I have seen a few other reviews of this product and in all respect this is the best and informative review I have seen. My respects and God bless you. I am now actually considering purchasing the controller after seeing this review hahaha 😂
There is a reason why streaming games never became a hit. Because it SUCKS! This thing will cost you like $200+, and it wil have bad resolutions, bad frame times, and probably like 30fps in every f*cking game you play on it. Next to that I am pretty sure we're going to need a monthly PSN subscription to play it as well. We already have a remote play device. IT'S CALLED A PLAYSTATION VITA. So why not also make that compatible for this? Sony drops our beloved Handheld like a rock without giving a sh*t, and then expects us to be as dumb enough to pay yet another $200+ for this sh*t. WELL... Take three guesses? NO THANK YOU!!
I think this makes so much sense, I really want one. A hand held with the best controller ever made, a large screen and a huge selection of games (if you have them installed) Too many people shitting on this for what it doesn’t do. If you feel like that then the ROG Ally is for you, not the Portal. With it playing games from the console, Sony don’t have to support it with another platform of game releases 👌
so would you mind explaining to me: why should i buy this when i already have a phone and remote play app? Why should i spend another 200 USD for something that i can already do literally years ago?
you still need a ps5 to stream it. you still need internet connection for it to work. if you don't have a ps5, and wifi on the go, then it doesn't make sense to own one. Most of the people complaining probably don't own a ps5. Switch all day.
A lot of valid points. However coming from someone who grew up with a PSP and Vita, and seeking backwards compatibility i see the this as complete E-Waste. If it connected directly to the console like the wii U and had a slot for vita carts then I would definitely buy this and even pay a little more.
Finally someone speaking reason instead of feeding the outrage machine. Would have been a real stroke of genius though if they just made if powerful enough to play smaller indie games between having wifi access.
I keep my PS4 on rest mode and when I use remote play I have to go into the app click on connect and that seems to wake the system up. I see how useful the feature with the portal will be especially if will be able to switch the system on just by switching the portal on. I am not sure about connecting to my PS when away from home, I am guessing it’s a little more complicated than that, I think that people might need to have proper network setup in their homes to do that and not just the Service providers router plugged in.
@@kongwilson88 I see that, remote play with a phone is a little more involved than that, I have to go in to the remote play app click on connect and then wait, with the PS Portal I am envisioning it as just switching the device on and it connects to the console, in the same way that the PS button is used on the controller to switch the system on. It would be pretty cool if the Portal would be able to switch the system on from the device itself. I am guessing that the system would probably need to be in rest mode for that to happen.
@KimalTiwari82 It is my understanding that the Portal allows you to power on your PS5 and basically just pick up and play from anywhere as long as you have a strong wifi connection on both ends.
My question being, can I access my Hulu television using this app so that i show as being local, even while i am traveling. This will get past my VPN issues and allow me to watch local television and sports while abroad.
Totally agree and appreciate your take. I pre-ordered the PS:Portal the day pre-orders launched, i'm beyond stoked to get it just due to the fact I know it'll be a top tier first party experience as compared to the janky experience I've had while trying to do remote play through my phone or computer.
Totally agree with you. I've been rocking mine since launch!! It doesn't mean that everyone will have the same need or the right router for it, but if you do this is basically a 1080p 60fps, super light 8" screen, 8-10 hour battery life, independent from my phone, PS5 in your hands for local, AND remote playing. It doesn't get hot like my steam deck. LOVE mine!! My setup if it helps: eero 6 pro (3 satellites), almost always 2 devices streaming netflix during my evening use and it has had almost zero lag and very clear 1080p. Mileage is going to vary for everyone as router quality, bandwidth, location, etc all play a role.
Finally someone who doesn’t just jump on the narrative going around. Instead of focusing on what it isn’t, focus on what it is and for $199 it’s a pretty cool device if it really does fix all the remote play issues. I guess we’ll have to wait until it ships to know if that’s the case or not.
Well the reason people were focusing on what it isn't, at the end of the day is because we were expecting the Portal to be a successor to the Vita or PSP. Not a streaming device. Because let's face it, the only use case scenario for this device is if you only have one TV in the house and multiple family members using said TV. Yes you COULD use it abroad or anywhere else like that, but as CKid said, it's dependent on the Internet connection in that area. And if that area doesn't have a strong connection, it's NOT worth it. This is not a narrative. As @dandan3045 said, we can CLEARLY see the product Sony outlined, and it's garbage. If you, CKid or anyone else want to get the Portal, go for it. Have at it. But don't hate on the people that don't like it.
Great product for me. Ps5 in the basement. Its a bit of a commitment to go down there and play. I have a switch. I dont play it on the go. I play it all over the house. Ps portal will have me playing the ps5 anywhere in my house. Or my wife or daughter can play. People complaining that its not a handheld AND the price. You really want a $500+ sony version of steam deck? I dont.
Agree with what you said here for sure! Here’s one thing I’d really like to see for this product and I hope sony hears it! Can we get our favorite ps3 games that are on ps plus rn and other stream only games to be playable on this! Example the ratchet and clanks, make them all downloadable. That would be absolutely crazy! Plus boost the games library up
@l_st_a_johnson2610 you can't add a storage update to a display. That's all it is. There is no storage present in the device. It's exclusively streaming and doesn't support the ps cloud streaming service.
People pay for a raggedy $99 bone. But complain about an official bigger screen with an actual controller for an better connection for $100 more?? I rather pay $199
Anyway ya did this to yourselves. Buying backbones showed them yall needed one. CONGRATULATIONS! Ya played yourselves 😂🤷🏻♂️

Raggedy? Are you trolling just for the fun of it? The backbone is great even if you’re just playing mobile games.
I feel like this device will really help clear my backlog of games. Looking forward to picking one up. As a Dad of 3 small children, having access to my PS5 anywhere in the house with a dedicated device & dual sense controls is very appealing.

I agree what happens if you get drift problems?? You need to buy another???
Everyone here should be buying it from Best Buy with Geek Squad Protection plan so they can swap it out in store and get a new one on demand.
They could've at least made it 4k quality, it's only 1080p quality. Also, they should have made it to where you could access your games via the cloud, so that you could take it anywhere in the world, instead of just your home 🤷🏾♂️, I mean IJS.
The display alone is worth $200. It’s just awesome !!! Great wireless connection as well. No pauses at all.
We give you audio jack but take away Bluetooth and use the standard 2,4Ghz connection but with a new forced protocol, so you need to buy our own 200$ headphones for a 200$ streaming only devise that can't use our own game streaming service and requires a PS5
Sony 2023/24
I disagree with your take about this device. They should've just designed another standalone portable console with Built in and optimized PS5 Remote Play
I think that device is still coming. But I think this is strictly for the people who want a better remote play experience and are already within the ecosystem.
@@CKidM I agree it could still be coming and if so that device is probably over $500 too so that $200 remote play option makes a lot of sense.
It would fail like the vita so.
As a father with a home wife and 2 kids 1 and 3yo this is perfect for me, I can play while paw patrols playing on the tv 😂
Exactly my point. This product definitely has a place for PS owners. We know what’s up!
Your PS5 you keep showing with the yellow middle skin is completely UPSIDE DOWN 🤣
Current PS remote play has always been able to wake up the console if it’s in rest mode. This requires the same thing.

This is a very underwhelming product. It is not made for all gamers, all users without a PS5, and all gamers who game on the go
It's an accessory, not a portable
Actually Sony themselves do not market it as a portable. They market it as an accessory to PS5.
Never once has Sony marketed it as a standalone handheld that was all from the leaks that was calling it a handheld. Sony has been quite clear in calling it just another accessory to the ps5 since they announced it
The Portal is named Portal for a reason, it’s a Portal to the PS5, period.

Or an iPad/ laptop that I have to balance on something to play People love riding a hate train and don't see that there is a lot of people who were looking for this offering from Sony. Lack of bluetooth and ps cloud streaming blows though :(
Also, according to sony's website at least, this thing is in high demand for pre-orders.

I too use my iPad and here are the pros you said you didn’t see for the Portal over the iPad:
@@Razorwolf88 That’s fair.
That ratio tho. This video will not age well.
people have narrow vision this thing for 199$ is awesome i won't deteriorate the battery of my expensive phone to play games on it
Definitely something I have a use for, potentially a day 1 buy, however it depends if there will be either a 1st party party protective case available day 1 or 3rd party.
Pure garbage tech..
1. you can only play the games you have installed ob the ps5..
2. You have to be in the same wifi network.. (at home)..
3. No Bluetooth. (Maybe use a chord for the headphones or just listen to the game from the TV..
4. No Oled.
5. No streaming.

@dusermiginte4647 spamming that won't get you nowhere Nintendo switch fanboy 😂
again false info also in this portal video: if your ps4 or xbox is in standby you can totally wake it up with apps. in both cases android device or portal you need at least wifi 6 to have a very good streaming experience. third party appsnlike for xbox even give you 1080p and fixed bitrate settings upto 50mbps

Nice strawman
@@EnaTenkiyoGamer I don’t understand, what do you mean?
Yeah, nothing you said about other devices doesnt also apply to the PSPoo.
It needs wifi just like the rest, and will have the same performance. Just all the other options of remote play can do other stuff lol
The device is made for the Remote Play. So I’m assuming the performance will be better. But we will have to wait and see.
@@CKidM the device sure is made for remote play but it's literally a tablet with a controller attached to it thats locked to remote play. The wifi chip is most likely going to be equivalent if not worse (it's 199 and samsung phones chips range in speeds depending on which model)
So their won't be a difference, and if remote play sucks that bad then Xbox in its own league that remote play is flawless with my Xbox Series S hooked up to Ethernet, and my ps5 comes in tmr so I'll be able to see for myself. Everything you said doesn't make sense and you really need to learn what remote play actually does and what it requires from the devices. Your video is just a load of misinformation
Hey let me know how the Ps5 remote play compares to the Xbox remote play would you?
Tell me you got paid to promote, without telling me you got paid to promote
😆 Don't listen to this man... This new device will flop.
Imagine this device gets stick drift... Then what? 😆😆
Oh... Okay, like I thought. Horrible purchase
for me exactly what I was looking for. people can't seriously expect a standalone device for $199.
Nintendo switch lite enters the chat lmao
That's literally the price of the Switch Lite, which is a fully functional console, why are we living in a world in which Nintendo are making better choices than PlayStation?
@@kieranboulton3953 OK, you're right. but the switch lite is not a good choice for me with its small screen and bad ergonomics. i think it's for kids
It’s literally the price of a switch lite
Exactly. There are people like me who are rooting for this and this is the perfect companion to the console. I’m hype for it. Remember everybody complained about the AirPods. And now look at how popular those are.
No, you're wrong! You're paid to say these things. And to do damage control. The majority of people are saying it's trash.
I hear your excitement but honestly a few things. 1 have a switch for away gaming. 2 I just don't believe the hype. I don't think the consumer will get any long playtime out of this device. And 3rd I need wifi connection each time is a no go for me personally.
Switch is rad
Im split between waiting for this or getting a switch. Reason i dont go and just get a switch is the games are soooo expensive. Where as i have this i have a massive library on my ps5. The main reason for using it is because my son hogs the tv or my ps5. The only downside is that you cant play the ps5 on the big screen and play something else on this new device at the same time, if it could do that it would be a no brainer. So really its more a device to play while im in bed or my son is watching tv. Where as the switch you can do both.
For what it's worth, Switch is awesome, and I couldn't recommend one enough.
I agree but honestly picking up something cheap and wired is a quick solution and mic quality etc is usually considerably better
Does the PS portal just "wakeup" the ps5 from sleep mode or can it actually turn it on from scratch?
if it can that's a huge plus!
anyone has an idea?
Only wake from sleep mode
I get the use for this PlayStation Portal but they should have created another version of a PSP. Where you can actually play on that AND the ps5. It being more than $200 wouldn’t be an issue. But PlayStation definitely should have created something that can actually compete with the Switch. I have a ps5 & I just want to play games with my fiancé without having to purchase an entire different system connected to another TV.
Why others psp.. the sells were bad .. some people brought it.. it only because popular after years later . But I understand
@@gregoryburkhead7813 this is true but in my opinion the PSP was ahead of its time. If it was released now as a standalone device, I could definitely see sales through the roof.
I agree and I do believe this device will happen in due time. And who knows it might release when the PS5 Slim is released.
I think more people need to see it this way. My wife watches her shows at night and this would be perfect for me to still be able to play easily.
Oh, but sir, if you want headphones you have to get another very expensive accessory just for that reason because it lacks bluetooth.
@@zackrose6261 that’s the funny thing. When you have kids you can’t wear headphones lol always have to be listening.
@@Blacktanamo Yea, but that 200$ accessory looks fragile as fuck. Not to mention, once those sticks start drifting your fucked regardless since the controller halves won't be removable.

I agree with most of your points but I'm not on board with digital gaming. I'm still getting the ps portal
I totally agree with you. I'm really excited about this device. I can't wait to start using it!!!
All they did was make a wireless Wii U and you can’t Evan use the wireless capability

@@CKidMfacts? Lmao you complained about having to turn on the PS5 y'all sound like some fucking losers bro what the fuck

@@clintperez8874 lol the funny thing is the vita didn't sell well because of crap like this. They took out the ability to use normal memory storage cards so you had to buy PS cards for extra game storage. Then they rinse and repeat with a screen that has two non detachable controllers and it has no Bluetooth so you're forced to buy Sony wireless headphones. I've been sony since day 1 too and this ps portal is complete garbage especially compared to the backbone.
my biggest question about this is the range. do you have to be close to it for it to work or no
You’re the only person that I’ve seen that understands the assignment!
Im sorry your clown all it is play games anywere in your house and sorry what tech lol streaming games this not steamdeck its controller with screen slapped on play in bed . Sad joke say what you want but it dead on arival sane tech heads like you after that rush it will be like most there orher tech abandon. Plus sad your joke dont grasp all of it is ussles unless you have good net and wifi and try do some research about this in west because most people cant stream decent .plus pay 50 bucks more buy google version works with PlayStation already and xbox and steam plus works as tablet also lol this was just fanboy buthurt or uneducated on what tech is compared to other same tech out there. Rather buy controler switch sticks.
I was hoping everyone will hate until the portal is released so I can get mine I have a newborn my ps5 is dock in the bedroom so now I can sneak off and still play in a different room
All to my self
Facts! I think it's going to be good and then all the people that's hating on it will eventually go out and buy it.
You can already do that in many ways lol
I have seen a few other reviews of this product and in all respect this is the best and informative review I have seen. My respects and God bless you. I am now actually considering purchasing the controller after seeing this review hahaha 😂
Appreciate you fam!
I read the dumbest comment of all time the other day from someone who said “this has no games” as a complaint 😂😂😂 Mind… blown.
100% agree. It’s the perfect pair for the PS console.
😂
so would you mind explaining to me: why should i buy this when i already have a phone and remote play app? Why should i spend another 200 USD for something that i can already do literally years ago?
@namduonghoang2931 he said to wake up the console lol. Lame asf just get a rog ally or steam deck.
you still need a ps5 to stream it. you still need internet connection for it to work. if you don't have a ps5, and wifi on the go, then it doesn't make sense to own one.
Cope lol
Yep. I will be testing all that out and showing you all exactly how to do it.
@@CKidM Would this feature work over internet?
so the same as remote play app... and it does not actually power on the play station, but only wake it up from rest mode @@kongwilson88
I'm definitely going to buy one
Same. Me too.
It’s like a Wii U tablet lol play your game in bed without turning on the TV so your parents don’t find out

I had to speak the truth...everybody downing it and haven't even used it yet.
You. Should tell the same thing to ponies that they should simply buy a Xbox and stop crying about Starfield 😂😂
It’s not a narrative. We can see the product Sony outlined, and it’s terrible. You’re also following a narrative, just a completely different one.
Have at it. But don't hate on the people that don't like it.
oh and 200$ earbuds which works only with portal , and portal works only with it, don't forget to get that as well, amazing super low deal!
Plus boost the games library up
you won't be able to download anything... the device doesn't have any storage.
Trust me, man, that's going to happen later with an update
@l_st_a_johnson2610 you can't add a storage update to a display. That's all it is. There is no storage present in the device. It's exclusively streaming and doesn't support the ps cloud streaming service.
