A five year old salvage operation was crowned with success today when the 17th century man-of-war "Wasa" broke the surface of the waters of Stockholm harbour, 333 years after she capsized and sank on her maiden voyage. To lift "Wasa" Swedish Navy divers dug tunnels under the hulk with powerful water jets in order to pass cables under the ship. The ship was lifted for the journey to shallower water where she was patched by divers for the final lift to the surface.
