    Great idea to make a video with the radio running... 😀 And you cut into your door with the dremel....

    Thanks for good instructions. I cut my template at the red line and just hold it towards the Remi blind and marked with a pencil, that made it a bit easier to see where to cut.

    Good job well done. The odd little scratch is of no consequence compared the peace of mind these will give you.

      It's surprising how much better we feel leaving the van with those lock in place :)

    Steve ive fitted these, its easier to take the plastic window cover off ,it only has 4 screws on it and then you can cut around template and you cant then scratch the door.

    Steve.It is really easy to remove the blinds and cut them off the job.At the top left hand corner of the blind there is a remis badge.This just clips off and behind it is just one self tapping screw.Remove this and then pull the blinds slightly forward and gently push upwards at the same time.It makes cutting so easy.Maybe you could video and demonstrate just how easy it is😉.

      Hey Col, I'll have a look at that and maybe include that in a video :) Thanks so much for the suggestion and tips on how to do it. :)

    Hi Steve & Wendy ,,, With reference to the cut out for lock ,,, from Halfords or a motorcycle accessory shop u could use a Rubber fairing trim in all colours to hide the plastic cut & make neater,,, Off to Benidorm for some Winter Sun a week today in Motorhome for 4mths on 24th Jan,, safe travels guys 👍

    Just found you channel and so glad I did, not seen these type of locks before and think they are an excellent idea, not too keen on chains etc. Just ordered some from Amazon. Thanks for sharing. Just settling down with a cuppa to watch some more of your very informative videos.

    rob yates why don't you mask the gray plastic of and run a bead of black sikaflex or stixall neatly around it will also help to secure it better.

    A bit of rubber door edge trim would clean up you cut and make it look a lot better. A Dremel tool would cut cleaner with just the last bits to finish by hand.

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  7 місяців тому

      Hi William, yes I think you're right that a rubber trim would have finished it off nicely.
      If we do that job again on anotehr van I'll certainly be looking for that :)

    Hi Steve, very interesting video, I've recently fitted these to my van don't have the remis blinds to worry about, one thing that has occurred though my habitation door has a developed a locking issue, make sure your habitation door functions 100% , if you get a problem with it there is no way into your van if you have deadlocked the front

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Bob, I've never really worried about getting in to our motorhome as the windows are just plastic and could easily be forced open in a real emergency where we had nowhere to sleep that night :) LOL

    Hi Steve, I added these to my van today too, 6 deg C, windy, and dodging the showers in the UK. I think you had a better working environment. No matter how careful one is trimming the Remis cover I think adding a cap strip over the edge is going to be the only way to make it look neat. I have a Ducato panel van conversion so I have other HEOSafe locks too. On the outside of the van I have fitted 2 x HEOSafe 1760 locks (available in black, white, or silver). Very easy, just nerve racking drilling 8 holes through the side of the van. The same key fits all the HEOSafe locks, if you order the single key set. On the inside of the sliding door on my van I also fitted a HEOSafe 1763 internal deadlock. That is a bit more challenging! It is very difficult to see what you are doing and you to have to align the inner and out portions to within a couple of millimetres. Then you have to drill 12mm holes in the plastic door pillar trim to mount the inner portion on the metal door pillar underneath the trim. I found I have a cable running in that section behind the trim which I had to avoid. The good news is that the insect screen still pulls across, and goes behind the lock. A good days work. Now wondering about the ProtectAvan ProPlates? They are going to be hard work, as I have 4 Fiat handles, and you have to remove all the internal door trims! I think the main advantage of the ProPlates is that they are visible, and should deter people, and stop them damaging the van before they find the HEOSafe locks securing the doors.

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому

      I’ve decided not to go with the proplates. As you say they seem really difficult to fit 😀👍😎

  • @soreeyesuk
    @soreeyesuk 4 роки тому +2

    Cut it tighter then finish with a piece of glass paper to get a accurate finish and use masking tape to protect the paint work and easier to see pencil marks . They should slow anyone down from entering but are you going to fit pro plates to deter them attempting again ? As some have said I traded mine onto a scrap piece of paper then used that as a template .

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому

      After some discussion via email with the people at ProPlates AND some more info from someone else who has tried to fit the proplates, I've decided that I'm not going to fit them at this time.The HEOSafe Locks will have the same effect so no real point in fitting them.

    • @Samuel-jq6tx
      @Samuel-jq6tx 4 роки тому +1

      The Happy Travellers What are the issues with the pro plates please?

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому +2

      Once fitted I think they’d be fine, however, reports from a friend who tried to fit them suggested that it might not be the easiest DIY job.
      Removal of the interior door panel is required and I am told that a special tool is needed for part of the job.
      For those reasons I decided that the HEO Safe dead licks would be an easier and possibly more secure solution.
      I was in contact with the people at ProPlates but when I asked what the difference was between their “original” plates and those for less than half the price on eBay he just stopped responding to my emails. I followed up twice and still no response.
      For all of the reasons above I can’t recommend them.
      Get the HEO Safe deadlocks they’re easy to fit and super secure.

    Just push on a piece of black plastic trim over the cut plastic blind cover, it will make it look a much neater finish and fill the gap.

    Rather you than me cutting up the van, good job though.

    I have both the Remis and the HEO lock to fit on my project. I’m wondering if it would be easier to cut the blind before it’s mounted. Must watch again to see if that looks feasible.

    Hi Steve, possibly a bit late now but could you not have loosened the remis blind to give you a gap between the door?

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому

      Yes I could have done that. I think filming it was probably too distracting to allow me to think properly about it. 🤷‍♂️

    Sorry i didn't get it all. Are those cutting templates in the original kit from HEO or where can i get them?

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  6 місяців тому

      It's a bit odd but the templates come in the original kit BUT they're printed on the back of the instruction sheet. So you will destroy the instructions when using the templates.
      Saves on paper but a little bit stupid...

  • @lynnebarkas6906
    @lynnebarkas6906 4 роки тому +2

    Hi Steve, re template. Perhaps you should have traced onto a piece of paper. Then instructions would be in one piece. Helpful video though.

      You can also download the template as a PDF file from HEOSafe, and print it off yourself. I also found it easier to look at the installation pictures on line, as you can enlarge them.

      The Happy Travellers haven’t got a Motorhome but is the habitation door anymore secure than the cab doors? With caravans, a lot of us add extra locks on our doors

    • @TheHappyTravellers
      @TheHappyTravellers  4 роки тому +1

      The habitation doors on Motorhomes is much the same as a modern caravan door so it's not very secure. We do intend to fit an external lock to it and security cameras to the inside. The cameras will be internet connected so we get an alert if there is noise or movement detected.
