The next-generation MINI Electric is arriving in 2023, with a convertible version due within two years. To prove it’s worth the wait, MINI has taken a tin opener to its zero-emissions hatchback and created a one-off drop-top EV just in time for summer! There’s only one in the world, and DrivingElectric editor Richard Ingram has been behind the wheel for an exclusive drive.

It’s amazing they don’t actually build this. It’s pretty much a ready made production car, it can’t exactly lose them money
EVs will shine so bright as a convertibles. It's like being on a sail boat vs a motor boat. Just enjoy the open top and driving.... Why they don't just dump the regular mini EV and just pump out these confuses me. Every car should just have the maximum possible structural options as standard. Like if there is a Targa version of a car ... make that standard. Like the C8 corvette. The targa top is just there and standard. At that point it doesn't cost the consumer anything extra and it's cheaper for the manufacturer to have 1 version instead of two.

It amazes me that there isn’t a single great looking EV sports car. I know they will come eventually but the wait is maddening. I’d order this car in a heartbeat and happily park it next to my turbo F-Type convertible.

I've been banging on about "Why can't MINI just put all the 3dr EV drivetrain in to the convertible...?" for absolutely AGES...!! 🤣
I presumed the only reason they'd not done it already was, perhaps, to do with some extra chassis bracing structures or something that's need in the drop-top taking up battery space.
But... amazing that they've gone and done it (finally...!!!)
And, yes, they absolutely should bring it to market ASAP - other than the 'extended sunroof' Fiat 500e, this would make the first 'proper' convertible EV in the market...

Would love to see an electric convertible available in the USA too. Electric convertibles would definitely benefit having a frunk for that extra storage space.

this would be my absolute first 'second EV on the driveway' car. maybe not as fast, large, comfortable as my primary EV, but if you are just commuting, or just going to a gym, there is no reason to bring your family hauler with you :)
Why aren't these already being produced en masse and being sold? Looks like this was filmed in Portugal.

*Edit: I checked and there is indeed a BMW press release stating as much. Best selling single model is the Cooper SE. Wow.

Aero problems kill EV range. I would buy a convertible EV in a second (especially this one), but the consumer isn't a priority. We eat whatever we are fed.
who is going to pay nearly 30,000 pounds for an electric convertible that only does 141 miles on a good day????
It will come, but to late, to expansive and to little range.
Better buy the Fiat 500E Cabrio, that is available since 2020.
